The one thing you do notice on the outside are the large numbers of houseless around the outside of the store and in the parking lot. Just be aware that it's possible you maybe asked for funds. However, the inside is clean and almost sterile. A large variety of snacks such as chips, chocolates, holiday candies, knickknacks and lotsa different types of soft drinks. I like that they have frozen treats from other countries at pretty reasonable prices. The back aisles have a number of different medical supplies to stock your cabinets. Toiletries and sundry items line the shelves but...keep in mind most are locked up. However, staff are nice and friendly which is a reason to stop by again. Prices are fair. read more

I Googled mobile wheelchair and Walgreens had one and this location was close by. The location used to be the old Safeway which has moved across the street. It's a little smaller than Walgreens I've seen, but I only needed one thing. I broke the armrest of my mom's transport chair, and it was pretty old. Why not get a new one? No greeting which was alright since it's a drugstore, but I got a friendly nod from security. But I walked over near the pharmacy, and then just looked down an aisle, and there it was. The last one, only one, maybe they just put out one at a time. Brought it up to the counter, and the clerk was friendly. After coming out, I didn't realize there was a Petco. Writing this review mostly because of Maggie, who was my cashier the other day. First of all, this Walgreens is located where the former Safeway was and shares parking lot with PetCo and First Hawaiian Bank on Beretania Street. I started doing some light shopping because PetCo is next door when I pick up items for our aquarium. Free ample parking out in the open so I feel safer. Walgreeen is equipped with automatic doors so no need touch. Little shopping baskets on wheels inside. Generic ATM inside. I also like how the line is set up where everyone waits same place like TJ Maxx or Ross's and you go to next available cashier. Now to the employees- every time I've shopped here the y cashiers are very personable and helpful. I mean seriously blow away any of the other "drugstores" I've patronized in the past. Maggie, went the extra mile without asking me she just did it because she knew it would really help me out with juggling my bags and watching my mo'opuna at the same time. She thoughtfully placed greeting cards in a separate bag to protect them, attached these handles to my 6-pack of paper towels and 12-pack of TP making it much easier to hang on my forearm rather then try to keep under my arms while carrying my bag, grocery bag of other items and holding my mo'o hand. Whew! Maggie's thoughtfulness took a few minutes more, but meant so much because they're thinking me the customer. Other cashiers in other stores might as well have been a robot but even robots can be programmed to say thank you. Maggie made my day of shopping a happy one because she cared. Okay besides Maggie I like the selection of items offered albeit smaller variety but still surprisingly reasonably priced and set up in such a way that makes sense, if that makes sense. Plus, it's a smaller area to shop in which I prefer rather than walking around and around with a toddler. I find things so easily and happily lots of bargains cheaper than the "other drugstore." I stopped shopping Walmart because of their change in DEI once it didn't remain a mandate. Walgreens DEI (diversity, equal employment opportunity, and disability hiring) is very strong! It seems like Walgreens are still trying to find its place here in Honolulu as a few came and went I'm still glad to find and this Beretania location which is the only one left in town. Am I regular here...no and for many reasons that I'm not in the know of what's on sale and not part of myWalgreen but I do love the location with lots of free parking I just need to familiar myself with this location and what it has to offer. In desperate moments I have used it's photo service at other locations since they do open late making it a lifesaver in so many ways as on this day I was in search for a very particular item that not many places to have and have found it here thankfully along with a few other items that I almost forgot to pick up which made me so happy to have found it in one place. The prices are comparable to other places when you're in a pinch but the convenience was just priceless. Places like these are much more valuable than we realize along with the staff that was nice though not very friendly but I got it all and went happily on my way and made it that much better. This location is on Beretania next to PetCo. For some reason they're never well stocked. Every time I need to get something they tend to be out. I was in the store today and they had a huge wall os Squishmallows. OMG! They even had a Hello Kitty one. Can you believe a Hello Kitty Squishmallow? I'm obsessed, but left it alone. I have enough, but that would be a nice collectors item. All the Christmas candy is now half off. Most of the Hershey's bags are $4. I also found some tropical gummy bears that I had to try. I haven't seen these anywhere else. They came in lychee, lilikoi and pineapple. I bought one of each and they were all good. read more

I've been a Walgreens pharmacy customer for over 15 years. I originally chose this location because it was close to my house and offered a drive-through pickup, which seemed convenient. Unfortunately, my recent experience has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. On 9/19/25, I placed an order for my prescription online through Walgreens' website (with 2 refills still remaining). The site stated it would be ready by Monday, 9/22/25. Even though I was already out of medication, I waited until the date shown. When I arrived on Monday to use the drive-through, I waited 10 minutes--no sign, no notice, and no staff. I finally walked into the store, waited another 15 minutes in line, only to be told I had no refills left. When I showed the staff proof on my app that I still had 2, she suddenly "found" it in the system but then said the medication was out of stock. She offered a partial fill, but will be ready in the next 3 hours. since they will have their lunch break. I told her I'd return the next day. Later that same day, I received a Walgreens text message saying my prescription was ready. The next day, I again tried the drive-through. Same story--nobody came, no sign saying it was closed. Inside, after another long wait, a pharmacy assistant (a heavy-set Asian woman, badge stating Sr. Pharmacy Assistant) told me my medication wasn't ready. When I showed her the text notification, she admitted they had "taken it back off the shelf" to prepare the full refill. When I expressed my frustration--since I was out of medication--she was extremely rude and unprofessional, telling me to "be quiet." As a long-time customer, being dismissed like that was shocking and unacceptable. At that point, I decided enough is enough. I've since transferred all my prescriptions to Walmart Pharmacy, where the staff are far more professional, faster, and actually care about their customers. Walgreens Beretania has gloomy, unhappy employees who can't handle basic service, let alone criticism. Their system is unreliable, their drive-through is neglected, and their staff is unprofessional. Been waiting 6hrs for 7 day supply of an antibiotic prescription from straub urgent care. Kinda NEED IT lol at least its not insulin or something but 6hrs is wild. Took 1.5hrs for their system to get the info from the Dr. (via ai phone call and website) then they gave me a pick up time that was over two hours ago and I keep checking the website, nope. The other month I had to get several prescriptions and when I went home, the most important, the antibiotic, was not in the bag. Probably I should've checked before leaving but I expect them to be accurate. When I called I was put on hold for a long time and forgotten and when I called back there was no answer. CVS nearby actually puts each medication in its own bag. This way seems better. You have 4 prescriptions then, you have four paper bags. Another thing is this on 12-8-25 in the morning, I witnessed the rudest photo clerk ever, both on the phone and in person. This person should not be in customer service at all. Do better Walgreens. What kind of manager allows this? Also regarding the pharmacy, my family member called in a prescription and it wasn't in stock, no call, no nothing. Have been picking up my prescription medications from the Walgreens Pharmacy location at 1121 S Beretania Street for several years now. Highly recommend the pharmacy clerk-cashier named Russelle. This dedicated Walgreens employee really went out of her way the other day by saving me a bundle of money when I had gone there to purchase my many prescriptions. For those customers who frequent the pharmacy at this store, Walgreens had recently discontinued their SingleCare Pharmacy Prescription Savings Club whereas a plan member could save up to 80% on all of their prescriptions. FYI, my current membership was to expire in October of 2024. Unbeknownst to me, Walgreens had just canceled all memberships to this Savings Club. Russelle, the pharmacy clerk-cashier, brought this ill news to my attention. Through her assistance, she was able to find me discount coupons that I could use when I purchased my prescriptions. With her help and diligence, I was able to save myself hundreds of dollars. In the end, through her kind efforts, I was able to leave the store by paying just fifteen dollars for my medication versus the actual cost of $200. My accolades to Russelle for being an awesome and outstanding employee. She really went out of her way and beyond for her assistance that day! read more

This location profiles people, it really has nothing to assist patients on emergencies. It does not meet the requirement for humanities needs. The staff make fun of people, they are ice cold. Rude, Disrespectful, Inadequate, They need more Pharmacists as they can't keep up with the drive-through pickup & the customers inside the store to meet the deadlines. I got a text that my prescription was ready for pick up. When I went to get it, they said that the prescription is not filled because it was out of stock. The pharmacy tech/ancillary was not helpful and just repeated "it was out of stock". No further explanation, no further information on what the next steps I could take to get my prescription filled. And this is after he brought me the wrong patient's prescription. So now I know that another person's date of birth and address with the same name as me, and l the medication that the person was prescribed. Note, the employee disclosed the information to me about the other person voluntarily - I did not ask about it. TLDR: DO NOT GET PASSPORT PICTURES AT WALGREENS!!! When I first asked for passport photos, I was told by the photo associate that he wasn't sure if they even had photo paper. He said he would go check. I waited for over 15 minutes with no update. When I asked again, I was told they were still looking for the paper. In actuality, I watched the photo associate ring up a customer with a literal cart full of items for 10 minutes before even leaving to look for the paper. Another 15 minutes passed waiting for the associate to come back and start loading the paper. Come to find out that the customer behind me, took their passport picture already and had come back to pick up their print because they were out of paper. So the photo department was aware the photo paper was out and did not immediately refill it. Not only that, they made that other customer wait a second time while the associate refilled the paper. That alone should have been red flags on how bad their customer service is, but nope, I decided to be patient because I really needed my passport photos. However, the worst was yet to come. After all the waiting (approximately an hour), the picture was noticeably blurry. I complained to the photo associate that the picture was blurry and I needed the passport picture for an emergency passport appointment tomorrow so I cannot risk having a photo that will be rejected. However, although the associate admitted that the picture is blurry. He insisted that you can still tell who the picture is so it will be fine, and proceeded to ring me up. I was so upset that I went straight to CVS Moiliili to have my pictures retaken because I was certain the picture would be rejected and really needed my passport. CVS Moiliili was a godsend compared to the poor service I received from Walgreens. Not only was I was helped immediately, the associate let me see the picture before printing it so I can confirm that it was not blurry. He also explained that the picture would look crisper on the printer than the older LCD screen. In this day and age, I could have easily taken a picture on my phone and cropped it to size myself. The reason I pay an extra $15 to have it done at the photo center is for the extra assurance that my photo will 100% be accepted. However, the quality of the pictures provided to me at Walgreens was below that of any cell phone camera and the customer service was simply horrific. All it would have taken in regard to the poor picture was the photographer taking an extra minute to check the picture and a simple confirmation with the customer that the picture quality is okay. Also, as long "as the picture is recognizable" is an irrelevant excuse to having a blurry passport picture. Now that biometric passport control is used at immigrations across the world, a significant blur can affect the ability to use the automated gates. And for the record, I did ask the passport agency about the Walgreens photo. The agent laughed and said anyone with eyes can tell the picture is blurry. Finally, Walgreens supposedly has a 100% customer satisfaction in their photo departments but they couldn't refund me by phone or email and demanded that I get my refund in person. Apparently wasting 2 hours of my time with the commute, faulty passport pictures and the retake wasn't enough. They want me to waste another 30 minutes driving over to their store for the refund they OWE ME because the passport agency rejected the picture. Unbelievable! read more

This review is for their photo department. Ever since Costco and Sam's closed their photo departments we have been coming to Walgreen to get our Christmas cards made. The process of making a card from their website is fairly simple and easy. The price was fairly good with a coupon code that give you when you get on their website. The 3-stars is for the speed and accuracy and communication of processing the order. It first said that the order would be done in like 3 hours of my placing the order but it was finished til 24 hours after i placed my order. I have heard from friends that other Walgreens have faster production times. So not sure if because since this Walgreens is in town that it is really busy or whether they are just that slow. I had a great experience at the pharmacy. I've tried booking the latest covid shot at Longs and other places with very little luck and with the options of weeks later or at the locations on the other side of the Island. I was told by Longs to not even bother with walk-in because they won't accommodate it or at another location was told that it might be 2+ hours if even that. I called Walgreens and they told me that they'd try to accommodate walk-ins best they can, which is all I wanted. I got there around 4pm and was out the door with my vaccination by 4:25. Walgreens is the standard old large chain drug store and there's nothing special about this one. But it is convenient. My better half came in for her shingles shot the new one. No real wait made an appointment so simple. Filled out the paperwork and then waited. The folks getting COVID vaccination apparently had priority because they kept bumping them ahead. What's the point of appointments? So it took the better part of an hour and 15 minutes. Lots of folks doing a few item shopping at 4:00pm. Good parking though and no long lines. Drug stores were a lot better in the days when they had a fountain bar that made mixed sodas as well as hamburgers and chocolate malts. Ok I'm dating myself but they had pretty darn good food and reasonably priced. The fast food Mackey Dees and King Burger eliminated them. Maybe it's time to revert back?? So what can a person expect when management is bad then it just rolls downhill from there From my experience their attitudes need adjustments including their non-verbal communication. Heck can Even go online - and marketing people work so hard to make sure stores draw income - it takes a TEAM to be successful in business nowadays especially with COVID. I do my best to not shop online because I want to have business still in existence here in Hawaii and of course above all have local people with opportunities for employment since that can be difficult to get here in Hawaii. I always stop by after I pick up some things for Mister Buttfurs (my hobo cat I've semi befriended, yes that's his name... don't judge me) from the Petco next door. I swear... I always only come in here for 1 thing that I needed to buy... but then I end up spending 45 minutes to an hour browsing everything and looking through orange tag clearance items I can't help myself when I see a good deal! I came in here for a package of makeup wipes the other day and ended up with a whole bag of snacks... gummy dinosaurs, seaweed tempura chips, kettle chips, chocolate biscuits, chocolate covered almonds... I must say, I enjoy the variety of different snacks they have here. Candies, chocolates, chips, nuts, Asian snacks, local snacks. Like omg they have all the snacks I know... I know. I have a snack problem. Admitting it is step 1. I like that the store isn't too big where a small child could get lost, but it's big enough to carry an expansive variety in every category. Wow. If you are a fan of the Aloha Spirit, don't go here. The non-pharmacy employees are noticeably less interested in helping you than avoiding the wrath of their manager. I imagine they are paid the minimum wage and no more. But the pharmacy side is even worse. The tall wrinkled pharmacy tech will glower at you behind her plexiglass-glass box as she demands your ID and cuts you off while you're answering the questions that she asked. Then she'll march off out of sight with your ID to conference with an unseen off-stage pharmacist, march back, toss your RX and ID back at you and gruffly declare that they don't carry your med and won't be bothered with looking to see if other Walgreens do. But the greatest and most surprising indignity is yet to come! After you thank her and begin to walk away while you quietly mourn the death of Aloha, she'll shout at you some kind of quip or insult - apropos of nothing! Most recently: "don't let the door hit you on the way out!" Very poor customer service! PERIOD! I witnessed a older lady being treated so rudely at the register; she was clean had a mask on and was buying laundry detergent. The cashier was an older Asian lady with glasses and the way she looked at this lady was unbelievable- she literally had a hurry up, pay and get out look.. I would use another term but it's not appropriate. The lady payed in cash and the cashier dropped the change in the lady's hand along with the receipt; as if she was contagious. As the lady was gathering her bags the cashier immediately sanitized her hands, took a wipe and proceeded to wipe her counter and the card reader while the lady was still standing there. Mind you, there were customers after that lady and she never bothered to do same "sanitizing" procedures. Its a few days into January and all the other stores Ive been to have Christmas clearance and Valentines Day items up. This location has 50% off their Christmas stock (which is 0.99 and up after the sale) and NO Valentines Day items. Empty shelves and unused refrigerators. Renovations? First off, I should mention this wasn't a 5 star experience because of the store itself. I am giving 5 stars for a certain employee named Alex. I was shopping an Uber eats order and actually got into an argument with him but it wasn't actually his fault. He was doing his job but because I had gotten embarrassed and my feelings mildly hurt , I lost my cool and gave him a way harder time than was deserved! For that Alex, I am sorry! I think he handled the situation amazingly and kept his cool overall even while I was not keeping mine and that is an amazing skill to have when dealing with people in retail! So go Alex! This is my neighborhood Walgreens, and while it's extremely convenient, open late and usually comes in handy when you need that last minute holiday card, it does have it's drawbacks. My main issue is the photo processing center. While the prints are cheap to print, usually around 79 cents up to $2-$4, even less if you catch a sale online, the quality is not very good. The colors are off or you get repeating prints. I'm not expecting professional prints, but it would be nice to know what the pictures look like before they go to print. Outside of that, the cashiers are friendly and quick, the store is clean and bright and their selection of beauty items and snacks continue to improve. The pharmacy is open 12 hours from 9am-9pm & the store doesn't close until 12am. There's plenty of parking and a First Hawaiian Bank ATM inside is clutch. I stopped by here the other day to kill some time. Didn't want to go to Ala Moana so I pulled into this quite empty parking lot on at weekday morning at about 10am. This lot was previously the Beretania Safeway and has been split into both Walgreens and Petco. As you have already noticed, the openings of Walgreens in Oahu has been quite aggressive as you now see them here and there. As I entered the store, it was quiet. Very bright with their lighting I walked down each isle to check out what they had. Pretty much an extensive convenience store that had some local products. They had a lot of generic snacks that were priced very reasonable. I noticed there were some signs in orange that informed you SALE price. I also saw some snacks that were reduced for quick sale (soon to expire perhaps) with deep price cuts with price savings. The staff at that time could have smiled to make me feel welcome. Went in to get some first aid on 7/17 at around 11pm. as i brought my merchandise to the register to pay, lady behind the counter didn't say a word (no hi, how much, thank you, nothing) thought just another bad customer service but then she started coughing. she didn't cover her mouth but instead, she removed her mask and started coughing. at least keep your mask on when coughing in front of the customer! again, no words from this lady even after coughing. at lease have some manners and say "excuse me" or something. then she starts coughing again so as soon as i finished paying, i walked out. just now I had my car broken into and credit cards stolen. The burglars went to this Walgreens location and charged my cards for 6 separate transactions in 2 days. All transactions were obviously fraudulent. The employees have not checked the ID and bypassed the pin code for over $500 worth of merchandise. I called the store manager Eric, he appears to be complacent with the crimes happening in his store. The store security cameras are down for 2 months now. No one doing anything. The store's loose security and lack of care is making Honolulu a more dangerous place to live, since the same robbers keep breaking into cars and shopping at the store with no one caring to check anything and just billing the cards! read more
