I started a shopping list and was initially pleased at the number of items with coupons or discounts. I figured, what the heck, I will give it a shot. It was a shot alright, to my ass. I should have stopped the minute the shopping list checkout had an "estimated" total. But I went ahead. After all, the receipt said the curbside service was FREE. We'll, it is not. By a long shot. This is a classic case of bait and switch. I realized there was a probkem when I saw what I was charged for salmon vs. The price tag on the salmon labal was $22.16. But I was charged $26.19. AN EXTRA $4.03! A markup of MORE THAN 18 percent! Surely, this was an error. But when I went to customer service, I had the feeling of being "the same old story" total the clerk. Just another idiot who thought "FREE" meant "free" and didnt read the fine print. With a sigh, she told me that for using the pickup service, there is a 4% markup on items. But that is just the beginning. The small print is a mind-numbing trip into Misleadingland. Basically, even with all the "online only" discounts (thd bait), HEB will slap on extra fees for a litany of reasons. In essence, there is no way to know what you will be charged until you place the order. In my case, it was nearly $40 more than what had been "estimated" on the initial order. Bottom line, if yoh shop at HEB, grab a cart and do it yourself. Bring coupons and look for others on the shelves. Don't fall for the "FREE" curbside pickup. It is an absolute, freaking scam Oh, here are the details about the fine print: H-E-B generally charges higher prices (a markup) on groceries ordered online for store pickup (Curbside) compared to in-store shopping. H-E-B's own help pages and terms explicitly state that online prices may vary from ads or in-store prices. They have so many good snacks to keep you munching on the road: jerky, candied pecans and nuts, Beaver Chips, soda, slushies, and all kinds of coffee to keep you hydrated and awake. The restrooms are clean and huge, especially the ladies' restroom. No need to wait in a long line! They also have souvenirs and so many other things to browse. The staff are super friendly. Everyone seems so proud and happy to work here, which makes the experience even better. The gas station has tons of pumps, so you won't have to wait long to fill up. Honestly, Buc-ee's is my favorite stop, even when I don't need gas, I'll still stop here. They have everything for everyone. At first sight, it was so overwhelmingly large with three large covered gas pump areas. Upon going inside, it was definitely larger than any truck stop in California. I was told the first area to visit at Buc-ee's are the restrooms. Definitely well kept and much cleaner than any gas stations period that I have ever been to. I definitely did not go there just to check out the bathrooms, but for the many Buc-ee's logo'd souvenirs, snacks and especially barbecue seasonings and sauces. Their hot food area like hot Brisket sandwiches, sausage wrapped in a tortilla on a stick, brisket burritos, candied nuts, a wall of almost every fountain drink available, slushies, and so much more. I had to go through my list of items to pick up as well as items requested by friends and family. It felt like it was my first time at an amusement park or the toy store. I think we were short of two hours trying to make sure we got everything we came for. Just in case I missed anything or didn't get to try a sample of fudge, jerky, nuts, cookies, or whatever else, we had plans to go to San Antonio the following day and there would be a Buc-ee's on the way at New Braunfels. Sure enough, we made a quicker stop in the New Braunfels location just before San Antonio. It was a fun experience and definitely anytime I am passing by a Buc-ee's location, I am going in planned or not planned.

I was impressed by the selection of wine and craft beer at Snappy Mart, which is just a few blocks from my house! I went to the register, expecting to pay about $10 for the 750ml bottle of Gallo, but to my surprise and delight, it was only $3.99!!!! The manager told me that they can order and stock items that customers request and frequently purchase, which is an indication of excellent customer service that you rarely find these days. Great prices, great customer service, great location. Highly recommended! This will be my go-to spot from now on!

While their truck is in the lot next to Duval Market, they might want to distance themself. Duval Market's beer selection was...meh. And since we were eating next door, I just assumed we would be able to use the restroom at the market, but you know what they say about assumptions, right? The restroom was a no-go and when I asked if there was a place nearby to use the restroom since we were eating at the picnic tables for Feral, the guy just reiterated that I could not use THEIR restroom, which I get...fine. So, I asked again if there was a place nearby that food truck customers could go and he just said the same. Back to the matter at hand, the beers we did select were not as cold as they should be and the place was not the cleanest. When we visit Feral in the future, we will bring our own stuff from home or another market.
