I have known about Buc-ee's for years, but I have never traveled to a state that has one nearby. Finally we visited the Lone Star State of Texas, specifically in Austin, but we had to travel to Bastrop, Texas for the nearest one to Austin. At first sight, it was so overwhelmingly large with three large covered gas pump areas. Upon going inside, it was definitely larger than any truck stop in California. I was told the first area to visit at Buc-ee's are the restrooms. Definitely well kept and much cleaner than any gas stations period that I have ever been to. I definitely did not go there just to check out the bathrooms, but for the many Buc-ee's logo'd souvenirs, snacks and especially barbecue seasonings and sauces. Their hot food area like hot Brisket sandwiches, sausage wrapped in a tortilla on a stick, brisket burritos, candied nuts, a wall of almost every fountain drink available, slushies, and so much more. I had to go through my list of items to pick up as well as items requested by friends and family. It felt like it was my first time at an amusement park or the toy store. I think we were short of two hours trying to make sure we got everything we came for. Just in case I missed anything or didn't get to try a sample of fudge, jerky, nuts, cookies, or whatever else, we had plans to go to San Antonio the following day and there would be a Buc-ee's on the way at New Braunfels. Sure enough, we made a quicker stop in the New Braunfels location just before San Antonio. It was a fun experience and definitely anytime I am passing by a Buc-ee's location, I am going in planned or not planned. read more

I hadn't been to this location in a while. It is a typical Buc-ee's, though it seems smaller than some of the newer stores. The gas prices are lower than most, and the restrooms are clean, which are definitely positives. However, I've started to notice that food prices are getting too high for my budget. Additionally, I've observed a decline in the quality of some items they make in-store, like the BBQ sandwiches. Furthermore, this location isn't the easiest to exit if you're heading east on Highway 71. I hope they keep their prices competitive, but I'm seeing more competition around them, so I might start trying other places. Ultimately, price is the most important factor for me. read more

I had not been inside a Buc-ee's store in more than 10 years. After my car politely informed me that I had about 30 miles before I would be searching for a gas station on foot, I made an emergency stop at Buc-ee's in Bastrop, TX. Note to self...if forced to choose between power shopping with friends and putting gas in your car, choose the gas. Everything is bigger in Texas, and Buc-ee's may be the poster child for that saying. From the moment you pull into the parking lot, the scale is impressive. Rows upon rows of gas pumps stretch across multiple sections, making it feel more like a fueling complex than a gas station. OMG!!! Step inside, and the experience gets even bigger. The place is enormous, with bright lighting, oversized signage, and enough merchandise to keep you wandering through the store for hours. Buc-ee's branding is everywhere, from water bottles and tumblers to outdoor furniture and clothing. One of the first things you'll notice is how incredibly clean everything is, especially the restrooms. My favorite feature? The red and green occupancy lights above each stall, eliminating the awkward lean-and-peek maneuver to check for availability. The food selection is a major highlight and far beyond what you'd expect from a typical travel stop. Fresh barbecue, brisket tacos, sandwiches, and the famous Beaver Nuggets are at your fingertips. There is also an astonishing selection of jerky, both packaged and freshly sliced, along with endless snacks, sweets, and drinks. And yes, they even have an in-store tortilla station. I definitely wasn't expecting that. Buc-ee's stands out for its sheer variety. Beyond the food, you'll find clothing for adults and children, swimwear, home goods, souvenirs, gifts, and enough Texas-themed merchandise to outfit an entire ranch. It feels like a travel center, gift shop, convenience store, and mini department store all rolled into one-stop shopping. Needless to say, Buc-ee's is a whole vibe. Bucees is ALWAYS a vibe! I've never been disappointed visiting a store anywhere. The only complaint I have is that they seem to have geared towards the BBQ for the most part. Don't get me wrong, it's good stuff for sure but I remember a day back in the early 2000's when you could actually order all types of sandwiches from a kiosk. My husband and I stopped at Buc-ee's on our road trip. They have lots of parking spots and places to gas up or charge up. After parking we went inside this enormous store. We were greeted by a bunch of friendly people that were working at the checkout registers. They have a whole bunch of merchandise you can look at or purchase, a lot of food options, snacks, a variety of fountain drink flavors to choose from, coffees, Icee flavors and so much more. They have clean bathrooms with a lot of stalls, that are stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. During this trip my husband got a pineapple flavored fizzy drink. He said he can't find anything like it anywhere else. I tried it and it was super sweet. I purchased a large rice crispy treat that they sold by the register at the checkout. It lasted me a few days and was delicious. On a side note we did visit in the late afternoon after 7:00 pm so we didn't really have to deal with overcrowding but there was still quite a few people there. Overall Buc-ee's was a good stopping place to walk around and browse or buy items. Besides driving high speed limit of above 65mph (California law), Texas is great and one of my first stops was Buc-ee's and I was excited as I heard great things about it! It didn't disappoint. When joined the Buc-ee's Facebook group, I didn't realize people were crazy about the beaver merchandise and started to make me excited to visit there soon. So my time arrive and I planned my Texas trip well. I made sure I would stop by at least 2 Buc-ee's to see if merchandise is the same or not. If you can find the bigger Buc-ee's there is a wealth of stuff food, snacks, hot foods, kitchen, garden, toys, stuff animals, clothings, etc. almost like a little Walmart or Target variety of goods. Some places become famous because they're genuinely great, and Buc-ee's absolutely lives up to the hype. The first thing that hits you is the sheer size of the place. It's enormous, with what feels like an endless number of gas pumps outside and aisle after aisle of snacks, drinks, souvenirs, and just about everything else you can imagine inside. I probably spent more time wandering around than I did filling up my tank because there was always something new to look at. The selection of sodas and snacks is incredible, and yes, the restrooms really are as clean as everyone says. I've been told many times if you see a Buc-ee's you have to stop in, and that was sound advice. This is like the Disneyland of gas stations - if that can even be described as a thing. So many things happening in this place - people making fudge, candied nuts, all kinds of jerkee; a huge BBQ station where employees shout out every time they either make or sell a sandwich? All kinds of fun merchandise - from clothes to shoes, to toys - a full gift shoppe. Employees are amazing - engaged, kind, energetic - definitely seem to care about what they do. Management salaries are posted out front for hiring purposes - pay is real high which is great, but even better, seems like those managers are doing a great job leading employees for that $$$ So, if you ever see a Buc-ee's I recommend you go in and see it - it's pretty hard to explain but it is quite something. read more

Visiting friends in Austin, they told me my trip wouldn't be complete without a stop at Buc-ee's. Naturally, I asked them to describe it. Their explanation? "It's a BIG gas station that sells EVERYTHING." And if I was lucky, I might even see Buc-ee in the flesh. Lmao. I'm always down to try something new, so off we went. To say I was overwhelmed is an understatement. First of all, this is not just a gas station it's a full-blown destination! Lol. I've never seen so many gas pumps in my life! Then you walk inside and it's absolute sensory overload in the best way possible. There's a whole brisket situation happening, fresh-made tortillas, a gazillion candies and snacks, fresh fudge, corn pops, an entire wall of jerky, and yes... a Buc-ee's clothing line. Ahahahhaha. Hoodies, pajamas, mugs, seriously, the beaver is everywhere!!! This place is massive! Like Costco massive. Lol. But the true star of the show was the Buc-ee mascot himself because I was lucky enough to meet him and get a photo-op. Iconic! That alone made the stop worth it! So disappointed. Stopped in on our trip to Houston. Got chicken and fries for my elderly father. Sign said 2 free sauces with box of chicken and fries. I picked up 1 bbq "sauce" and 1 chicken "sauce" and two small ketchup packets for the fries. When I got to the register and after I paid I noticed they charged me 2 sauces. I told the cashier that I had got 2 "sauces". She said the ketchups were considered sauces too. I've grown up knowing that ketchup is a condiment. I told her that I wanted to return the ketchup. Total .50 cents. She called the manager....(who took her sweet time getting there). The manager told us that there are no returns at Buc-ees. The thing is I can afford to pay 50 cents for the ketchup, but it's the principal. This place definitely will nickel and dime you to death. My suggestion to corporate would be, in addition to the sign that says 2 free "sauces" with chicken...add ketchup is a sauce! Or if they want to be customer friendly say, +2 free ketchups with fries. Remember the packets of ketchup are 1/3 of the size of the "sauces" My future plans for Buc-cees, use them for their toilets. This is until they start charging .25 cents per square of toilet paper. One of better Buccees locations for your road trip between Houston and Austin. Just outside Austin so we typically refuel the car and fill up on snacks on our way to Houston. Pair this location with the Katy Buccees from Houston on the way to Austin. The Giddings Buccees is more centrally located but it's tiny so you don t get the full experience. This is a nice large location with a number of pumps and a wide variety of food inside. The brisket sandwich is always a solid choice. A number of icee flavors for the hot weather. read more

*WARNING* I'm beyond disappointed. We bought a locket necklace for my daughter at Buc-ee's and discovered it was broken minutes later, still in the original packaging. We immediately returned to the same cashier, who called over the night manager, Mary Ann. Mary Ann made me walk back to my car for the receipt--completely pointless--then refused to exchange or refund the item, claiming it wasn't "resaleable." Are you kidding me? I am from California, and when I first heard about Buc-ee's, I had a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of it being a gas station and convenience store. This place is like the Disneyland of all convenience stores!! The place is the CLEANEST any place could possibly be (even the bathroom was hands down the best public restroom I have ever been in ANYWHERE). I took a video to show how large it is, how clean it is, and what you don't see is that each stall is like its own private room with two hand sanitizers in each one. Everything is organized and labeled, and I think I could get lost shopping in here. We stopped to use the restroom, but I couldn't avoid snagging a brisket breakfast taco and some sweet tea before leaving. It was absolutely delicious. The tortillas from the factory are so fresh! Buc-ee's is the ultimate road trip stop. Like the saying about Texas, everything's bigger here. Buc-ee's does a great job building anticipation with teaser billboards long before the exit to their location. Got some gas (not for commercial trucks though), used their bragged about clean bathrooms, and shopped for souvenirs. Sadly, our time was limited so I wasn't able to buy food or snacks, but I browsed the huge Buc-ee's clothing and merchandise section. I saw a long case of jerky, and in the middle of the food section, hot sandwiches, including brisket naturally, If you're lucky you'll meet Buc-ee walking around the store. At the very least you can take a photo with the metal statue outside or in this store, the indoor trucks with Buc-ee dolls in the open bed truck. They sell other items you'd shop for at a mass merchandise store like housewares, books, Prices tend to run high but food ones are more reasonable. Employees get paid well here, as noted on the hiring signs, with benefits. Too bad the girl who rang me up, Stephanie, was rude and condescending. They don't have a website or answer phones (!) and I don't know when I'll next be at a Buc-ee's but I follow them on social media and live vicariously through the fan posts. read more

I had no problem leaving- so he lost my sale but he was over the top rude. Since the Bastrop location is the closest one to Austin, I've become pretty familiar with this one but they're all pretty much the same: a bunch of gas pumps, huge shop that's roughly divided in half where it's snacks and other rest stop staples and the other half is Buc-ee's and other Americana. Somewhere in there will be a photo op with the man(?) himself and a wide selection of jerky, fudge and a breakfast taco if you make it in time. I even end up getting stuff to send out to people who have heard of the Buc but never had the opportunity to experience it themselves. read more
