We were driving past Gainesville and were craving Thai food so decided to stop by and grab a bite at Wah Ha Ha. It's attached to a motel with lots of free parking, plenty of seating inside, and a very diverse menu! The service was super quick, we were in and out in less than an hour. All of us ended up getting the crispy noodle with chicken (which is one of their most popular dishes!) The spice levels are mild, medium, hot, and Thai hot. I got the hot and that was perfect for me! The dish was a bed of noodles on a hot, spicy broth with lots of veggies and chicken. The noodles were thin and crispy but once soaked in the broth, they became soft. The veggies tasted amazing - they were super fresh, crispy, and soaked with flavor from the broth. The chicken was tender and juicy and went really well with the whole dish. I do wish that I got more broth. I feel like the noodles and vegetables soaked most of the broth and I didn't have much left to drink. The broth was super yummy though! This was the best yellow curry I've ever had in my entire life. It's been almost a week and I still crave it. The service was good and our waitress made sure we were doing ok. The location is kind of at an angle so if you're passing by too fast you may miss it since it's right next to an inn. The ambiance was clean and the music was really good. I also enjoyed the candy they gave us at the end. I'm definitely going back soon and I'm so happy a friend recommended this place for a girls night out. It was a Thursday evening and I had a meeting in about an hour and a half, which meant that heading home for dinner and then traipsing my way across town for the meeting was a silly thing to do, so I figured I would grab something to eat. I hadn't been to Wah Ha Ha in ages, so figured I would give them a shot. I figure I haven't been here since it was called Bahn Thai, so it had definitely been a while. I went for the Tom Yam soup and green curry, asking for Thai hot. The Tom Yam soup was decent. I really love that soup, with the sourness of the tamarind coming through. Really enjoyed it. The curry? Well, I am an American white boy, so of course I got "American White Boy" hot, not proper Thai hot. Restaurants never believe me. I didn't even break a sweat with this one, and it barely registered on my internal heat register. My general mantra for this sort of thing is "Make me cry!" The food is fair, but realistically I won't be thinking about going here as a destination. I know that there is better in town, and that is what I will actively seek. read more

Decided to check this hole in the wall looking Thai place on 13th road. Yes it looks a bit sketchy from outside, but as the saying goes, never judge the book by its cover. This place has a variety of different menu options to choose from and we decided to get pad see ew, chicken wings, tom yam soup, chicken wings, and Masaman curry. All were delicious and made with fresh ingredients with the exception of Masaman curry, which had overpowering peanut taste. Still, we really enjoyed other foods otherwise. The food was nice and hot and was pretty good, though the pad Thai tasted a little off. It was definitely not the best pad Thai and just had a weird flavor to it. The krab rangoon, however, was delicious but the sauce it came with was just alright. The ordering process over the phone is pretty easy, but it did take a little while for the food to be ready. Delicious Food at ripoff prices in the most insultingly small portions. This place makes great tasting Thai. It was my family's go to Thai spot. But this is just a ripoff. $30 of takeout and it was sparse at best. I understand inflation. Price increases everywhere are normal but they hit you with a double whammy, PRICE INCREASE and PORTIONS CUT IN HALF. Its really sad because the flavors are so good but our red curry was more of a red curry soup with a tiny bit of veggies and chicken. Our chicken pad thai had more tofu than chicken. And to top it off the rice wouldnt have even been enough to fill one of those tiny chinese carryout boxes. I used to reccomend this place to everyone but now I WOULD RECCOMEND YOU STEER CLEAR. I ordered takeout from Wah Ha Ha one Saturday while at work. I got the chicken pad Thai and it was about average in flavor (you can choose mild, medium, hot, or Thai hot spice levels). There could stand to be a bit more for $12.95 but I think this becomes one of those instances where you don't get as much food for a takeout order than you would if you ate in-house. Their menu is pretty large with lots of other options I would like to try, so I anticipate going to Wah Ha Ha again someday. read more

Definitely hole in the wall restaurant. I almost drove past before I saw the sign. I have never been inside the dining room since I always get takeout. The service is really fast; in less than 10-15 minutes they had my order ready. I always get the Pad See Ew in mild which is enough spice for me. It is really good food for the price you pay. I'm not sure why you hired the new girl. She literally doesn't answer the phone. I called multiple times and ended up having to come in to place my order and then waited. This place is the definition of "don't judge a book by its cover". From the outside, this place looks very sketchy with no windows and next to a motel. My 5 star rating is based off of my experience with take out. The inside is kind of odd because of the lack of windows, but definitely better than I expected. The pad Thai was one of the few Asian places with reasonable portions and pricing. It was perfectly flavorful and not drowning in sauce like other places. Pure and utter gold. This is the best family owned hole in the wall Thai food I have had in a long time.

Well over a decade ago I first visited what was then Bahn Thai, which under their management back then started out just okay but then toward the end of their time slid downhill into bad. Nowadays Wah Ha Ha at this location, which had a few initial growing pains as I recall in its early days now seems to be doing well having coped with the pandemic and with serving consistently great Thai food! Entree portion sizes are decent despite inflation, and their Thai hot is formidable (though Bangkok Square tops them in that arena when their Archer Rd location's A-team cooking staff are in). Pad Kee Maw and Panang Curry are both delicious, though when made with shrimp they're tailless and a bit small compared to other local Thai places. Superior are the appetizers, particularly the fried wings which are both a good deal at just under $7 for six nicely marinated and lightly-breaded wings. Calamari consists of the tube portion of the squid sans tentacles but comes with a Tom Yum style seafood dipping sauce. Spring rolls are unimpressive for the three you get for around as much as the excellent wings, but the homemade duck sauce is sweet and garlicky and far better than that in packets. Also, thankfully unlike the weirdly miserly side sauce portions Bangkok Square provides (like perhaps half a teaspoon of duck sauce with their rolls??), these are at least close to topped off. The great thing about the fried stuff is that they seem to go out of their way to ensure their frying oil is nice and fresh. After several consecutive orders now including at least a couple of fried apps each has been delightfully crisp and "clean" fryer oil wise, without things where at Culver's say you might order deep-fried cheese curd and it arrives with a hint of onion ring flavor, or worse is close to rancid. Tom Kha soup is solid although I'm more in favor of sauteeing some of the spices and veggies and mixing them in to create a hearty broth with tasty bits of flavor throughout. This as opposed to theirs which is Pho-like with veggies and fruit (tomato) that strike me as having been cooked in the coconut milk broth. Overall consistently great after several recent experiences! Look forward to hitting them up for many a lunch in future. read more

Wah Ha Ha might be one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Gainesville. It has a cozy feel and whenever I have come is always lively but not too crowded which is nice. It's also very close to campus which is very nice. Whenever I go to a thai place I usually get a curry like panang or massaman and a noodle dish like pad see ew in order to compare these restaurants to each other and this was definitely one of the better ones for both. I really want to try coming back here one Saturday for their buffet. read more

First of all, horrible service. My friend and I walk in and it probably takes the server a solid 5 minutes to realize we're there (it wasn't busy at all either). The servers are really lazy and not that nice either. Second, the food. Would honestly give 0 star if possible. I ordered the pad thai and it was just the furthest thing from pad thai. I've had a good amount of pad thai in my life and I can honestly say this tasted like a whole other dish, like soy sauce and noodles. It was a huge letdown, and the prices were def nothing to rave about either. For that price I definitely could've gotten something I would've actually enjoyed. Nonetheless, the food was bad, and as we were walking out of the restaurant, I realized my friend and I never got our credit cards back. When we went to ask them for it, they seemed very confused and then found our things at the bottom of a tall pile. Absolutely love this place, it's your classic "hole in the wall." While I have never eaten inside, I have gotten take out multiple times and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. I adore their Masaman Curry (mild spice) and thai-tea, which is my staple order. Please be aware, the spice levels are not for the faint of heart, a little goes a long way!! The staff is very kind and onviously works hard. They have gone above and beyond everytime I encountered a minor hiccup with my order. I came here for lunch and was surprised by how quiet this restaurant was. Located on a relatively busy street, Wah Ha Ha is easy to overlook because it's combined with a motel; even the parking lot is shared between the two. The restaurant is decorated like many Asian restaurants, and pictures of their dishes line the wall. We were seated immediately, but it took the waiter to come back to take our orders. My friend and I both ordered chicken pad thai at different spice levels, and the fried calamari appetizer. Although it was quite flavorful, the pad thai was much more moist/saucy than usual. Moreover, I found the pad thai to lack the spice that I asked for; my friend's mild tasted the exact same as my medium. The portion size was average, which is enough to fill you up, but not enough to take anything home. As for the appetizer, our waiter actually forgot to put in the order, but he didn't charge us for it after it came out. The calamari was heavily coated in batter and deep fried; it was basically like a sliver of calamari with five times the size of batter. Amazing. This time I got the Vietnamese noodle soup and it was perfect for a cold evening. The broth is flavorful and the chicken is fresh. The spring rolls are also fresh, rolled in house. They were crispy and the sauce was great. The Thai fried rice is also great and a large portion. Also the kids chicken fingers are the best in town. Trust me just get them.
