It has been a number of years since I have been to this restaurant, so it is definitely time for a revisit and update! Arriving an hour before closing time, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and seamless seating despite the quiet atmosphere. The staff made me feel like a valued guest regardless of the hour. I was seated inside, though there is an outdoor patio. However, with the lack of customers and the late hour, it felt better to sit inside this time around. The decor is pretty typical for a Thai restaurant... lots of reds and gold and the ever present dragons. The standout of the evening was undoubtedly the Tom Yum soup. It was bold, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. It alone is worth a return visit. The summer roll was decent but fell a little short of its potential. The shrimp felt sparse, and an overly generous hand with the cucumber threw off the harmony of flavors I was hoping for. My green curry hit all the right flavor notes, but the portion felt slightly unbalanced. A bit more curry to accompany the rice would have made it a truly satisfying main. Minor criticisms aside, Bangkok Square delivers a genuinely enjoyable Thai dining experience. The highs are high enough that I'll certainly be back. read more

Stopped by Bangkok Square for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! I got the lunch special Pad See Ew with tofu, and it came out hot, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The noodles and veggies had great texture, and the sauce had a nice slightly sweet flavor though I think it could've used just a touch more salt or chili oil to balance it out. Slightly oily overall, but not enough to be a dealbreaker. I swapped the soup for double egg rolls and was glad I did since they were super crispy and satisfying. Service was fast even though it was fairly busy for lunch, and the pricing for the lunch special was great. I'd definitely come back for another lunch here! read more

I have passed this restaurant several times and never stopped in. A friend wanted to meet for lunch, and she suggested it. It was her first time too. It was either the owner or chef that came out to greet us for our order. She offered to make my broth with vegetable broth which was a great touch and care to detail for me. Much appreciated. The place became super busy for lunch. Our food not only was delicious, it was like a work of art! Everything was so pretty! I most definitely will be back! I used to come here all the time before I moved. 6 years later the quality and the service have not changed. Always a pleasure to dine here. I got the lunch special which came with soup and an egg roll in addition to my entree which was a duck basil fried rice. I asked for less spicy and the dish was not spicy at all which was perfect for me. I ended the meal with their fried banana which was slightly tangy and balanced well with the coconut ice cream. Ample parking as well and very clean and well lit. Happy this business has survived the hit from COVID. read more

We were traveling through Gainsville and found Bangkok Square online. We were able to easily place an order online, quoted 40 minutes after we ordered. The restaurant was easy to find and my order was ready and waiting for me when I arrived. They have silverware nearby and hot sauce and chili containers to grab. The smell got me first! We immediately tried the Spicy coconut soup, which was absolutely Devine. I would highly recommend it. It's not very spicy but has a little kick and it creamy and sour at the same time. I will be dreaming about that soup! Next we had the crab Rangoon, which is different than normal restaurants. It has a curry flavor, but was creamy and beautifully wrapped. We also had the summer rolls, but compared to the soup it was a little bland. It did taste very fresh though. Finally we ordered Pad See Eew, it was simple but good. Been here quite a bit but been disappointed lately. The portion sizes have definitely decreased while the prices have gone up. Most recently we got take out and paid to add more chicken and the portions were still small. It was over $35 for two dishes too. I think this is the best Thai place in town. The PD Thai was so flavorful and the portions are huge. We got medium spice but I think you could bump it up to spicy. The lady at the front was super nice and very polite. Our food was made quickly and they even put a some cardboard between the pad Thai and papaya salad TK prevent the salad from getting hot. Some days, quick... like in 10 min. Extremes can have it be an hour. We popped in here to have lunch while traveling past Gainesville. They have a good lunch menu with several options that come with soup and an egg roll. I ordered lad nar with chicken for my meal. The soup was very light and tasty and I enjoyed the egg roll and sauce as well. The lad nar was flavorful and a good portion size for lunch. I ordered mild because I am wimpy about spiciness and probably could have done medium. If you don't like spicy, you'll be fine with mild. The service is very quick and they even bring out a little cup of coconut ice cream at the end of the meal which is a nice touch. The staff members were kind of short and not super friendly though. Bangkok Square is walking distance from my house so naturally I needed to check it out. I decided to get it take go so I could enjoy my meal from the comfort of my couch. 20 minutes after placing my order my meal was ready. I have been to their original location and had a pleasant experience. The hours are a little off at this location. Twice I tried to go in the middle of the week and they were closed for the day. I finally was able to check them out on a Friday night. It wasn't very packed which was nice. I ordered the chicken drunken noodles with medium spice and a Thai iced tea. The tea was sooooo good. It wasn't too bitter which was great. The prefect amount of sweetness. The drunken noodles on the other hand were delicious flavor wise but INSANELY spicy. I realize spice is super subjective so I try not to base my reviews on it. This time I just had to mention it. I can tolerate spice pretty well but since this was my first time at this location I wanted to take it slow in case the hot was too hot. But literally this medium tasted like Thai hot. I'm by not sure if it was an accident but my mouth was on fire so I could not even finish half my dish. I was pretty disappointed because it seemed like it had some great flavor. I also wish the portions were slightly bigger. I usually like to split my dish but the portion was only enough for one. My bill came to $16 for one entree and a drink. I will still go back just because it's so convenient for me but I'm hoping next time they get their spiciness more accurate. The service on the other hand was excellent. A nice Thai restaurant on the north end of Gainesville, really close to Santa Fe College. They have daily lunch specials on weekdays. My coworker and I chose to stop by after a meeting in the area. We were promptly seated in a booth which had two pillows on each side! Nice touch. The menu for lunch had a range of curries, noodle, and fried rice dishes with the diner's choice of protein - they had a selection of the usual meats and seafood choices. I love the food here, but the prices are going up and the amount of food you get is going down. I recently got a lunch special for carry out and the box was so light I thought they had forgotten to put food in it. I also thought that soup came with this lunch special but apparently that is only dining in. I paid nearly 3 dollars for brown rice and it was just a small scoop. We had just spent a few hours traveling and we were so glad the staff was helpful and attentive. To start, we ordered the steamed dumplings and both had a cup of tom kha. Nothing special about either item, but still delicious! My companion ordered the special of soft shell crab and I got the Two Friend panang curry. The jumbo shrimp in the panang was actually jumbo! You could've mistaken them for lobster tails. Absolutely wonderful. I took half of my meal back to the hotel and it was just as good later on. A great menu that expands beyond your usual Thai place. What I really liked about this place is that had a section on the menu with healthy selections, meaning low fat, low salt, and veggie forward. But to the food... As a new Thai food lover this place is better than your average restaurant. The food is jam packed with flavor, and you can pick your level of spice! My mom and I both got the cashew chicken (we clearly have similar taste buds), with jasmine rice. I love the mix of veggies, the bold flavor of the sauce, and the portion which is easily 1-2 meals! You can see in the picture the bowl of food is just full of color. We were a little bad and got the springrolls/eggs rolls and woooow. They don't look remarkable, but tasted fresh and handmade. New in town. We saw good reviews online and decided to try this place out. We came in during lunch hours and ordered lunch special pineapple fried rice and Prig Khing. They were both extremely salty. And the pineapple fried rice tasted like salt and curry powder with only 3 pieces of pineapple in it. When I asked for more, they told me it's lunch so you only get 3 (they did get me 3 more on the side, very reluctantly). If you're gonna be stingy on the pineapples, then just call it curry fried rice in this case, because that's all it tasted like - salt and curry powder. Also, just a tiny suggestion, if you wanna save money on pineapple, cut them into smaller pieces so your customers can enjoy their every bite with a little bit of pineapple :) but you end up using the same amount. And ease up on the salt please. My boyfriend had to drink 4 glasses of water IN THE RESTAURANT with his Prig Khing. Thai ice tea was standard. Bit diluted. read more

I'm not a big eater but I have been disappointed several times about the amount of protein and size of the meals in general. My Pad prig was divine! I have been to Bangkok probably 5-6x now and can make an accurate assessment of the food based on this. Tom Kha soup - so so good. I've had this at Taste & IfItIs locally and both of those spots have great Tom Kha soup too which is the coconut lemongrass broth style soup. I can't say I would be able to pick who's is best. The appetizers here are good. Curry puffs, wontons, etc. I like the amazing sauce more than the red curry. The red curry has bamboo shoots and I don't love those or baby corns so it's a personal preference. My hubs has liked the steak pineapple fried rice on lunch special and that's a good deal with soup of the day and coconut ice cream. I love Thai Beef Salad but a friend has spoiled me to her Thai Beef Salad so I've never ordered that here. All in all, great lunch deals for the quantity and price. So far I've had Bangkok square twice and both times I had a to go order of the chicken pad Thai. First go around I had just the regular non spicy version of the pad Thai and it was just ok. Everything was cooked properly but there just was not much flavor. Thankfully I decided to give them another go because the second time around I had the spicy version of the pad Thai and wow was that a great choice. The spice was hot but not tongue numbing hot. It was a delicious combination of heat and flavor and I enjoyed every last bite. I would definitely recommend Bangkok square and next time I will do my best to visit the restaurant because of the food is this good when I get it to go then it has to be amazing when you eat in ! read more

I think this place is a great option if you're looking for a thai spot. We came for lunch and all got noodles (pad see-ew and pad thai) and they were all decent. We all needed to add a bit of chili flakes bc each dish was a little sweet for our tastes, but truly the luncheon portion was substantial enough with the soup and egg roll to fill us up. They also give you a small ramekin of coconut ice cream to cap off the meal and it is delicious. I would love to come back and try their curries--seems like they may do very well in that arena based on what we tasted. Little tip: you cant really customize the luncheons--you get what's on the menu, which is the soup of the day and an egg roll. I was a bit disappointed at first to not be able to get wonton soup over the soup de jour, but I ended up increeeedibly happy with the soup they brought, which was a nice, brothy chicken and spinach soup. Best Thai food in Gainesville but I'm only giving them 3 stars because they never make it spicy enough. I've probably ordered take out here 50 times. The spice level range is between mild and Thai hot but the Thai hot is mild and they don't fresh peppers to spice it up, they use dried flakes which lame. I've asked them to make it double Thai hot - still not hot enough, asked for triple Thai hot - still not hot enough - come on people it Thai food bring hot the heat!!! read more

Came here for the first time with my son for his college graduation dinner with family and friends. I ordered the panang curry with chicken at medium spice level. I eat Thai food nearly every week and reside in Miami, have a seasoned pallet, and can tell you that this restaurant serves truly authentic cuisine. You can taste how robust the flavors of the sauces are in each bite! I took an order of pad kee mau with chicken home because of how thoroughly I enjoyed my meal there and wanted more.
