Panang with tofu
Bill W.

Nice clean, modern feel. This was recommended by a guy at Karma Cream (excellent place), so we wanted to grab a small bite. Great Thai Coffee! We shared the Panang curry with tofu. The flavor is nice, but a little disappointed with the few veggies. There is a lot of tofu, which is nice and it is a lunch portion, but it is mostly tofu and zucchini slices. The staff understands gluten free and vegan, so we appreciate that. Maybe we need to try them for dinner, but to us, it seems to be a little pricey. Maybe that's the cost of eating out these days... The food was tasty, service fast and friendly, so a solid 4 stars is where I would place them.

Kua Gling

Bangkok Square is our family favorite. I've been coming here for years. About time I write them up! Best Thai food in Gainesville. Their pad Thai is my go-to. Their crispy duck is a great portion and flavorful. My husband tried the Kua Gling for lunch today and it was super spicy and delicious. The service is always friendly. Definitely check them out.

Tofu Pad Broccoli served with 2 veggie egg rolls because my friend is a vegetarian

My friend's father came into town to take us out for lunch and a movie. We arrived about 11:20 am which was the perfect time on a Tuesday afternoon as we beat the lunch crowd. I haven't been here in years but it was better than I had remembered. I got the vegetable pad kee mao aka drunken noodles. I'm not a vegetarian but I wanted something I could share with my friend. It was so good I ate it all. It was my favorite pad kee mao because of the noodles. They were thick and wide and kinda al dente. The sauce was good, too but it was a little salty. I will be back to try variations of this noodle. My friend's father ate all his shrimp pad thai and didn't complain except to say it wasn't spicy. I think Asian servers are scared when Caucasian Americans ask for spicy. I asked him if he wanted me to request spicy sauce on the side. But he declined. We actually did request that earlier but they forgot. By the appearance of it, I thought it looked a little dry and I noticed there wasn't any lime. I also don't like how thin the pad thai noodles looked. My friends ordered the tofu pad broccoli. The server didn't really explain the name of the dish well. It looked okay. He ate half and packed the rest to go. The lunch portion, options and presentation were nice. The restaurant was clean and charming. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. However, it took awhile to get seated. In fact, a Thai customer who was dining in, got up and had to notify the staff in the kitchen that there were 2 parties of 3/4 people waiting to be seated. We were in and out in an hour. We caught the 12:20 pm showing of The Fall Guy at celebration pointe. That was a great movie! Highly recommend.

Pad see ew

Decided to check this place out for weekend dinner. It was not overly crowded and we were seated immediately. We got chicken satay for appetizer which was okay, 3/5. salad that came with "two friends panang curry" that we ordered was good. Both curry and Pad see ew were flavorful and were cooked well- little on the saltier side to my taste. Overall, we had good experience and will come back when we crave Thai food!

the menu for the restaurant

This place had really good food. My parents have been going for a decade. They are in a little strip mall on the edge of town. Their menu is extensive. Their staff friendly, but not great at English. Ambiance is kinda scuzzy, with Gainesville's typical non-student crowd of old, wealthy, and educated sitting in store, while students coming in for take out. Parking availability fair.

Wow, to start off, the experience and food here is a solid 5-stars! The interior is a great first impression, and the staff is super friendly and welcoming! Bangkok Square is my to-go place for Thai food. I usually get the Beef Pad See Ew, and it has been delicious every time! The food is hot and flavorful, and always made to perfection. The presentation is also gorgeous. I love the Sticky Rice here as well, very delicious! Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping here for a yummy bite to eat if you're in Gainesville! It's delicious and a great experience!

Basil fried rice

One of the best Thai places in town. The restaurant is really nice inside and the service is good. The food tastes really good my only complaint is the portion size could be a bit bigger I could have ate more. I ordered the basil fried rice and I enjoyed it a lot. The restaurant is pretty small and quiet inside, but it is decorative and well-kept. Our servers were attentive and the food came out fairly quickly.

Red curry with chicken.

There are an abundance of Thai places in Gainesville but I had never been here before, so I met a friend here for dinner one night after work. We were able to immediately get a table and our service was prompt throughout the night. So many tasty-sounding options on the menu but I went with the red curry with chicken. It was a scrumptious blend of red curry paste in coconut milk with bell peppers, pineapple, and bamboo shoots. Served over jasmine rice, it was a great meal. Overall this was a good experience at Bangkok Square and I would return again.

Icecream with Crunchy Banana

service/ambiance: definitely family owned restaurant; cozy & intimate vibes with friendly staff i ordered the tofu drunken noodles-- as a non-vegetarian, i can't help but ALWAYS order tofu here... the fried tofu has such a rich flavor but even better texture --firm on the outside & filled with the noodle's sauces on the inside. personally, i wish the portions were larger (granted, the price is reasonable for the size) but i only wish this because it's so good and i want MORE!! the sauce isn't too salty and the noodles are cooked just the right amount of chewy! for the dessert, i tried the icecream with crunchy bananas --basically bananas wrapped in fried rice paper with coconut icecream! very interesting blend of flavors (in a good way) and very light on the soul. good to share with a group of friends if you want a small dessert :)

I love the Vegetable Dumplings, Hot Dry Noodles, General Tao's Tofu, Salt & Pepper Eggplant, and Sichuan String Beans. The menu is pretty large with plenty of options for vegetarians.

We started with the wonton soup, which was visually beautiful. The broth had a rich, inviting color and the wontons themselves were excellent -- thin, delicate wrappers with a very flavorful filling. Unfortunately, the broth itself was a bit underwhelming and lacked depth. A touch of hot mustard helped bring it to life, but it needed more natural flavor on its own. The standout dish of the meal was the Mu Shu Pork. Absolutely fantastic. The portion was generous and the flavor reminded us of classic Mu Shu from WoHop in NYC's Chinatown -- high praise. The pancakes were incredibly thin, almost paper-like and nearly translucent, yet soft and perfect for wrapping. This dish alone makes us want to come back. The Bang Bang noodles were another dish that looked beautiful when served, but the flavor didn't quite match the presentation. The sauce seemed watered down and there was quite a bit of liquid in the bowl, which muted the overall taste. It felt very close to being great, just not fully there yet. Overall, this was a mixed but promising first visit. There's clearly real skill in the kitchen, and when the flavors hit, they hit well. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying more dishes -- and we'll happily update this review after our next visit.

Liquid Ginger - Crispy Tofu with Red Curry Sauce

After a little wandering around we found liquid ginger. The line wasn't too long inside, so we decided we would try it. They were swamped and very busy still, but the staff was doing their best to accommodate everyone. We waited in a short line for maybe 15min before reaching the hostesses table. We were lucky to get seats at the sushi bar! The interior is very nice and has a nice vibe. This place is really great for nice dinners, nights out, or a good dinner. Service was definitely off that night. Our water specifically seemed to forget about the group of us since we were seated at the sushi bar. It took her 15 to get us waters and our other drinks didn't even come out until after we got out food (a considerable time later). Like I said it was busy, the sushi bar was swamped with orders, but they were working diligently to keep up with the influx of orders. Most of us ordered sushi, so we ended up waiting a considerable amount of time for our meals. My one friend ordered an entree from the kitchen and it came out within 10 minutes of her ordering it. Our sushi was served about 20-30 minutes after her dish. This is frustrating and slightly awkward as my friend felt bad eating while the rest of us didn't have any food yet. Again, this is no fault to the sushi chefs. They were working extremely hard to produce quality sushi for all the guests. My problem came with our server, Emma. She didn't check in on us at all, didn't even serve our dishes to us, and like I said, forgot to get us drinks, etc. While this was frustrating, I do not think this is a reflection of the restaurant overall. It appeared the other serves were fine keeping up with their tables. For the food, we started with the crab rangoons and steamed pork potstickers. These came out within 10 minutes of ordering and were great starters! They each included 6 pieces per order. The crab rangoons were stuffed with ample amounts of cream cheese and crab meat. They were perfectly crispy and I thought these were some of the better Rangoons I've had. The potstickers hit the spot, but weren't anything too special, pretty standard. For my sushi, I ordered the Golden Apple Roll (per our servers recommendation) and a daily special roll called the bonzai Roll. The golden apple roll included spicy crunchy salmon, Fuji apples, mango, and mango sauce. This was decent and something different but not my favorite. 5)3 flavors were super unique but there wasn't a sweetness at all oddly like I was expecting. Instead it had a distinct tart flavor to it. Different, but not my vibe. Now the bonzai roll was a hit! This roll included tuna, salmon, kani, and avocado inside, topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and mayo, then flamed & torched, and finished with eel sauce, caviar, and scallions. There was certainly a lot going on in this one, but I could really taste all the different elements. The fish was extremely fresh and just divine. I also tried some of my friend's sashimi and was blown away with the quality of the fish--just amazing. Overall, we all loved the food here and would 100% return. The quality is quite good and the fish is melt in your mouth. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their sushi and it is evident in the taste and presentation alone. Now the service was certainly more desirable. I understand it was a very busy night, but our server just appeared to forget about us. Very disappointing as it slightly spoiled our experience and was not a good first impression. Again, we all agreed that we thought it wasn't a fair assessment of the restaurants service overall. I'm hoping next time the service is better and our server can do a better job serving us and checking in on us. I'm also surprised that she never offered to compensate anything in our bill, like our drinks that took 30+ minutes to come out and were served well after we had received our food. But it's not the end of the world. I would still recommend coming here, I actually think their sushi is better than Dragon Flys, better priced, and dare I say higher quality!

Such a great vibe and the food was fresh. All the sauce options are unique and tasty too.read more
