Stands out when compared to diner of the comparable stature. BTW lasagna is about my favorite dish. My girlfriend's fried: flounder and shrimp were also superior when compared to comparable establishments. Could be that was the first cooked batch of the day. More flavorful than other places to include some local seafood restaurants. Seasoning that seems to go deeper than just the batter. Temperature and texture are impressively good. Our French soups also performed well. Served in a bowl rather than a crock which is different. But the broth matches my taste preference exactly. French onion broths vary so much from place to place and even among times of service at same establishment. I took broccoli casserole home since I stuffed self at the restaurant. Warmed the next day and was so impressed with the flavor and texture. So, all of the food from my 1st experience at Cafe Arthurs was above average and just plain really good / enjoyable. I would give this place 5 stars but hold myself back on little things like ceiling tiles that could be replaced and bathroom that could stand to have it's renovation completed and uniform with all it's tiles. Knowing that some while back this place had to be renovated after plumbing rupture. The plating needs color and proper styling/garnish to match the visual dynamic elegance of the restaurant. My chicken was dry and flavorless despite the sad clump of dried herbs clinging to the face of the cutlet with the half-melted glob of parm. The lemon cream sauce for the fusilli had split. My poor husband is too kind and waited until we had left to tell me that his little eighteen-dollar chorizo breakfast burrito had no chorizo in it at all. When I first walked in, I saw the daily specials and desserts listed on a chalkboard. I love carrot cake so I asked for a piece, thinking I'd get a nice little slice. The waitress brought it to me and I just about fainted - this slice of cake was almost a quarter of a cake. It was massive. I ended up eating maybe an eighth of it and asking for a box to take the rest home. It was a lovely, lovely carrot cake and I highly recommend it. As a side note, as I said it was lunchtime and the majority of the other diners were ordering more typical lunch food. The two ladies across from me ordered the daily special, pot roast. Now I am not much of a pot roast person, but this not only looked delicious, it smelled heavenly. I can only surmise that their regular food is just as good as their breakfast food.
