We have loved First Watch for years and have been to this locations many times. Today was a great experience. The service was exceptional. Don was so courteous and friendly. He ensured we got exactly what we ordered and served clean, well made beverages. We got the Pineapple Express and the Morning Meditation. All menus, tables, and cutlery were clean. Only annoying thing is they didn't have crayons for the kids menus. The ambiance is always nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's nice that you can get on line ahead of arrival from the app because it can also get busy. They greet you right when you arrive with a smile. The front looks like a small parking lot but there's additional parking in the back of the building covered and uncovered in case of rain. My kids love parking in back and racing up the stairs to the outdoor seating space. The food was excellent today. Fresh ingredients and cooked perfectly to order. We got the Barbacoa Chilaquiles Breakfast Bowl and the Chimichurri Steak & Eggs Hash. Yum! We also love how if you order coffee, they bring you a whole kettle to serve yourself after the first cup. And if you ask nicely they will give you a cup to go no questions asked. It was a great Sunday morning breakfast. read more

I've always had a great experience here. It's inspired too how I eat breakfast at home in that I now have salads (not as delicious as their arugula mix). I have been to and enjoyed First Watch restaurants in other cities but had yet to visit the one in W-S, mainly because I heard they were always very busy. However, I was craving something crunchy today and decided it was time. After all, there's a reason they're always busy, right? I was looking at their website and noticed that you can add yourself to the waitlist from the website. Love that. The website was a little hard to use as when doing location search using Nearby or zip code, it told me there were none nearby. The W-S location did come up when I searched using the city name. Then the map kept coming up when I tried to navigate to the location website. Finally the location came up and it was very helpful to select the option to get on the waitlist. It gives you a real time estimate of the actual wait. This was helpful in deciding when to jump on the waitlist. When we arrived, we were seated immediately! Our server, Ariana, was very friendly and bubbly. She got us started with coffee right away and we also ordered the sangria pitcher. My husband ordered the smoked salmon Benedict and I ordered the Raspberry Ricotta French Toast and a side of the Million Dollar Bacon. Mr. Susan loved the Benedict, particularly the fresh greens on top. He had never had the Million Dollar Bacon (baked with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne and drizzled with maple syrup) and was appropriately wowed. My Raspberry Ricotta French Toast was a work of art. I had imagined that it would be "stuffed" with the lemon ricotta so I was a bit confused that there was no "filling," afterwards I checked the menu online and realized that what I mistook for whipped butter atop the creation was actually the whipped lemon ricotta cream. Good to know. The raspberry puree was delicious and fresh raspberries a nice touch. The sangria I wouldn't order again, it wasn't "bad," but it didn't really have any "bite" or "oomph" to it and was more like drinking punch. This was my first visit to this location, and the entire setup is so much better than that cloistered mess in Clemmons! I went with Eggs Benedict with Salmon and the Million $ Bacon. I've had smoked salmon Eggs Benedict a number of times, most often at Print Works Bistro in Greensboro, one of the premier restaurants in the Triad serving contemporary American cuisine, with the occasional European twist! The dish here was quite nice. I was a bit concerned about how the eggs would be cooked since a handful of reviews had complained that the eggs were over cooked. But the eggs were nicely poached with a runny yolk, perfect! The bacon was also very nice, great texture and the sweetness was great. Everyone decided to enjoy a late breakfast today and I probably will be full until dinner. The eggs were great. The waffle was great. The pancake was great. And the potatoes were delicious. The wait time is always a little long but they have a text message that let's you know your place. I also found out today they have more parking behind the restaurant. The servers are kind and efficient with a counter cashier for checking out. The tables are a little close together so I wouldn't recommend for any deeply private conversations. This is one of those highly consistent places you know you will always have a delicious meal. Every time I have visited, my food has been top tier and fresh. On today's visit, I enjoyed a delicious Chickychanga (forgive me spelling here) which is basically a breakfast chimichanga. It is AMAZING. The cheese sauce mixed with their blend of seasonings is delicious. The side of potatoes were warm and deliciously seasoned as well. As I had a kid free morning, I also enjoyed a mimosa. It's honestly getting out of hand in the service industry. Please stop treating teens and young adults like we don't have money to pay for our meals or leave a tip. When we walked in, we came right after another couple. They were greeted immediately and had their drink order taken right away. Meanwhile, we were seated and completely ignored. No greeting, no drink order...nothing. Two employees were sitting in the back just watching, and still we waited. At one point, we even had our menus pushed to the end of the table, clearly ready to order, and still no one came over. We were literally still waiting just to get drinks. It's honestly frustrating because there's this assumption that young people won't spend money or tip well, and that's not true at all. In fact, we can easily be some of your best customers if we're treated with basic respect. The service industry should treat everyone the same, regardless of age. Great atmosphere, lots of shaded/covered parking in the back, excellent service (I'm looking at you Anleigh) and the food is the brightest star in their crown. The iced coffee has a wonderfully strong coffee flavor, that was sweetened and full of cream for the PERFECT blend and only $3.99! I had the Shishito Brisket Hash with 2 over medium eggs on top. The brisket was tender and well seasoned. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, my eggs were perfect. That roasted garlic aioli? Chef's smooch! My friend had the recommended Market Hash and loved it. Her eggs were the perfect over easy that she requested. The menu is extensive and I've made a list of everything I want to try so I will definitely be back. More good news: I just looked at my receipt. So bad that I am in disbelief! I visited with my sister for breakfast after a doctor appointment. I have recently been in the ICU for a celiac related complication. We chose First Watch as they advertise a gluten free breakfast menu. Our server (a female with blonde shaved hair) was incredibly annoyed when I asked her if the coffee creamer had any additives (carrageenan or modified food starch) and she literally acted like I was crazy. We ordered boiled eggs (see photos for the pale yolk), chicken sausage and a side of greens which were slimy and we split a fruit cup. The fruit has several rotten pieces (pics). The bill was initially $50 for four eggs, four sausage patties, two sides of greens, one fruit cup (and two coffees @$3.99 cup). We asked that the bill be adjusted to reflect the Traditional Breaking price on the menu. This too the total down to $22 each - which is still ridiculous for the amount and quality. I'd say that First Watch needs to be put on notice that Celiac is a serious illness and it should be treated with care- not neglect and annoyance. read more

There just something about a good breakfast that makes a good day a great day! That's being said, my foodie partner (My wife) and I went to First Watch this week. We had first encountered this great breakfast spot several years ago in Orlando, Fla. and finally we now have two in Winston-Salem. So on first impression the restaurant has a very modern look with some nostalgic appeal. Most of the restaurants that we have visited are not too large and always have good outside seating. The biggest eye catcher is the giant blackboard on the wall with all the current specials written in beautiful hand writing with vibrant colors. I don't know who does these boards but they have a gift! My hand writing looks like someone tried to write Arabic with a dolphin flipper! Now to the food!! I had the Farmhouse hash and my wife had the power wrap! So in my world there is only two ways to eat an egg, either poached or over easy. Yeah I said it...scrambled is only good for sandwiches. So of course I had the over easy eggs. This hash was awesome! Everything was perfectly cooked which is surprisingly difficult. If I owed a restaurant every chef would have to audition by cooking a complete breakfast in 20 mins. So hats off to the cooks! Awesome job and I would eat this dish everyday. This morning was the second time in a row we were sat on the patio (with kids!) and no server attended to us for 10 minutes (not even water). Nearly every visit has had some gaff or mistake--ordering gluten-free bread and getting regular, tired and wilted salad greens, etc. If it wasn't for the lack of other options in town I would have stopped coming here long ago. My husband and I attempted to eat lunch at the First Watch on Stratford. I have many food allergies and carry an allergy card for the waiter to share with the kitchen. The kitchen can either say sure we can make this for you or we have nothing you can eat. The first time we went, I handed my card to the waiter and she said "Our kitchen is busy, choose 2 allergies you want them to avoid." My husband, kids, and I left. We tried again a month or so later and had no issues. It had been a while since we had eaten at First Watch so we decided to have a lunch date there last month. There were maybe 4 other parties in the restaurant. I handed the waiter my allergy card and asked if she knew the ingredients of the gluten free bread. They used to use Udi's, but now it is made in house. She said she did not know the ingredients. I asked her if a manager might know. She left and came back with the First Watch website pulled up on her phone. The waiter said, "The website shows no allergies." I said, "I need to know the ingredients to make sure it does not contain anything I am allergic to." The waiter said, "You see some of the items have allergies listed on the site, the bread has none. It has no allergies." My husband and I left. Staff needs to be trained better. If a manager would have come to our table, I am sure they could have given me a better answer. With its chic country feel and SoCal flavors (not to mention cage free eggs and other culinary buzz word trends) this is a place millennials are bound to adore. Don't get me wrong, for brunch types, First Watch is solid (if not a bit overpriced). I had the chorizo Chile omelette with egg whites and potatoes. Good choice, though I would've preferred more chorizo and spicier chiles. My friend had the biscuits and gravy, and he raves about it (firmly millennial). On another visit, place was still packed. This time a friend and I both went with the breakfast tacos (spicy seasoned chicken with pico and avocado accompanied by black beans, though I substituted potatoes). DELICIOUS. I had craved a little oomf in my omelette, and these delivered. I also had the million dollar bacon...worth it... and a Blue Booster drink (blueberry pulp with pineapple juice and basil=perfection). I finally got to try this place with my kids & it was pretty good. I will say I was not impressed by the million $ bacon, to me it was overcharged bacon drenched in syrup. I actually enjoyed my sons meal more than I did my own. I truly wish they had a kids menu for families that have children, yes I know they have pancakes but sometimes a smaller portion with other items would be more pleasing. Other than that we did enjoy our food, and will probably go back sometime but not anytime soon. It's definitely a bit overpriced for a single mother with 3 kids. read more

We had a friend visiting from out of town this weekend so we decided to pop in and try our newly opened First Watch Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch spot off Stratford Rd. We got there about 10:30am on a Sunday and they had a good crowd. We put our name in and were told it would be a short wait(less than 15 min) and were directed to complimentary coffee and water in the waiting area. It was a nice day so we chose to wait outside on the patio where they had tables and umbrellas but they weren't serving guests out there. I'll definitely sit out there in a future visit though. After our short wait we were seated at a table near the front of the restaurant and our friendly server came to take our drink order right away. The service was very attentive and friendly from the first moment so they are definitely hiring some good people. We ordered a variety of flavors from the menu. Everything sounded amazing and it was hard to narrow it down to one choice. First, we ordered what they call Million Dollar Bacon to share. It's a candied thick cut bacon that we just had to sample. It was very good and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend trying it yourself. I settled on the Floridian French Toast. When my entree came it was exactly as described on the menu piled high with more fruit than I've ever seen served with a side of warm berry compote. This dish was HUGE so I won't be eating again until tomorrow I'm sure. My table mates ordered the Breakfast Tacos, and the Smoked Salmon Benedict. I took a bite of the tacos and was immediately impressed with the tender tortilla. I'll have to order that one next time. I didn't get a taste of the Benedict but it looked good and was told it tasted delicious. First watch has many options for healthier and lighter fare for those with a smaller appetite or looking to watch the calories or macros. The Greek yogurt with homemade granola or avocado toast are both items that caught my eye for future visits. They also have some signature fresh veggie/fruit juice blends I'd love to try as well. At first I was turned off by the prices since they were a bit on the higher side as far as breakfast goes but once you taste the quality of the fresh ingredients and see the quantity of food, it seems well worth it. Everything from the great service to the delicious food was 5 stars UPDATE: I'm back again for the 3rd time this week. I can't say enough good things about this place. Everything I've tried has been delicious! Today I tried a "You Pick" from the lunch menu. I had 1/2 the Monterrey Turkey Sandwich with 1/2 Sweet Honey Pecan Salad. I may have to order that whole salad next time because it was so good! That dressing! I'm gonna have dreams about it! My sandwich was so good too. The menu states it's served on sourdough but, growing up in CA eating sourdough my whole life, the 'sourdough' here in NC is more like a light French bread. Not sour at all, but still delicious. The service has been phenomenal every time, no matter what time of day or day of the week it is. Usually, restaurants have a bit of a 'breaking-in' period but this one started off great from the get go! Kudos to the management for training all the super friendly staff well and executing every dish I've had perfectly.
