Krankies is my favorite breakfast place and my favorite place to come do work. I love the atmosphere especially outside. I would recommend all the biscuits that they have but the blueberry is my go to. It's the perfect mixture of sweet and savory. The biscuits are a perfect size and definitely fills you up. If you have not tried Krankies definitely do not sleep on it.
We stopped in here based on a recommendation from a friend. We were in town for a wedding and this spot was walking distance from our hotel. We came in on an unseasonably chilly May morning nursing a bit of a hangover. Krankies was delightfully warm with plenty of seating. I got the Hangover Cure biscuit, which had eggs, fried chicken, bacon, cheese, and gravy on the side. I also got a hot latte and then topped it off with a cinnamon roll. My partner got the sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit with an iced latte. The lattes: go with a flavored one if you grab a coffee here. Their plain latte was not that good but their vanilla latte was very good. Biscuits: WOW! The Hangover Cure is hefty with plenty of biscuit to go around - I had some to take home with me. It was absolutely everything I needed after a night of imbibing with friends. My partner also enjoyed his biscuit. Cinnamon roll: very good! They had a variety of baked goods to choose from. Definitely worth the add. All in all, I think we spent $40, which feels reasonable for the amount and quality of food we received. Definitely worth a stop in if you happen to be in the area.
First time here! Very nice big establishment with plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor as well. Busy but line moves quickly and food and drinks come out fast. I got the classic krankie and I was not expecting it to be so huge! The biscuit is nice and fluffy, the chicken is moist. When it said it was doused in sauce I was worried it was going to be soggy but it wasn't, I actually grabbed more Texas Pete. I also got a side of potato wedges, it was fried perfectly! Crispy exterior and soft inside. The sausage gravy was quite plain tbh. The green sauce was great. I tried an iced banana pudding latte and the banana flavor was very subtle. Would return to try the other menu items!
Finally made it over here to krankies after wanting to go for over a year... let me tell you the hype is totally worth it! Such a cool spot! Total industrial vibes inside. The line was crazy long but moved quick and our food came out lightning fast! So many cool details, they sell clothing, alcohol, coffees, cinnamon buns, and, of course their biscuits, which were the main event for us. I cannot rave enough about how delicious the biscuits were, buttery, flaky, HUGE! We got the bluebird, full monty, and the krankies classic, along with a horchata latte and the wedge fries. The horchata was not crazy sweet which I liked, the fries were huge and delicious and the biscuits were out of this world! I will be back on another cheat day for sure!
10 out of 10. The salted caramel latte is something I will dream about :) The biscuits are huge and flaky and incredible. The service was excellent. She was so friendly and answered all my questions. The inside looks a little divey and it's confusing where to go if you've never been there before....but it's so good! Highly recommend
Stopped by while in town visiting a friend. Had a good variety of options, super friendly staff, and very cute items to purchase, like shirts, stickers, and local art. I am taking off one star because there is an accessible entrance, but it is extremely hard to miss! We did not realize they had one until we struggled to enter through the front door. Everything else was a great experience.
This was a quick trip in during the 2026 Winston Salem Bike Races. It's a nice little spot to have a coffee. The capuchino was great. Mostly serves biscuits which were pretty good. My kids were not fans of the biscuit pastries at all. They thought they were too sour and they love pastries. They did enjoy the gardens and tree house outside! Service was good for how busy it was.
I can't believe I haven't written a review for Krankies *self-disappointed sigh* I LOVE Krankies! It's the perfect place for a hearty and tasty meal with a flavorful coffee. This last weekend, a friend and I stopped in after walking the Salem Lake Trail and enjoyed biscuit sandwiches and coffee. I got the Bluebird and my friend got the Dirty South. Besides the sandwiches being only mildly warm, they were delicious. We each also ordered drinks - I got one of the fall flavored drinks (I ordered it hot - it was barely warm, but still very good). We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful fall day- the seating outside is great and plenty, but there is also tons of seating inside as well. They are quick and call out orders over a speaker you can hear from anywhere (outside or inside) so you don't have to stand and wait for your order to be called. There is a lot of parking nearby - either in the smaller gravel lot they have (a bit bumpy, but it works), street parking, or the parking deck a block away. WARNING: if you go on a weekend, expect a crowd/line and food/drinks won't be super hot because they are in a rush to serve so many guests, but everything will still taste good. If you want hot food/drinks, either get there early or go during the week or during bad weather when it's less busy.
Krankie's is a favorite breakfast/coffee spot of mine in Winston! I mean, who doesn't love fried chicken, biscuits, and coffee? I got the Golden Delicious this time, which has fried chicken, sage, apple butter, bacon, and Gouda. It was very tasty! Loved the combination of flavors. For coffee, I got an iced oat milk latte with their seasonal white chocolate cold foam. Not too sweet which I liked! We sat inside since it was a chilly January day and it was very calm and peaceful for hanging out with my family. The service was quick and friendly too!
It's about time I updated my review on Krankies! To be blunt: I love them! Their biscuits and sandwiches and coffee drinks are consistently great every time, and I especially love their blueberry biscuit. If you surprise me with just that, I will thank you with a big hug or a handshake if you prefer! And I do enjoy their space there, especially when it isn't too crowded. It's a vibe, and the staff are super nice too! Their breakfast sandwich is so good too, with a spicy fried chicken, egg, cheese, bacon, and jam perhaps and a side of their sausage gravy to dip - and drink! So good, it's always a consideration in my mind when I'm downtown.
A low light, laidback atmosphere with personal staff who serve you with a smile. The buffalo chicken biscuit may look a little messy, but the flavor is on point and has just the right amount of spice to it to hit your cravings of savory with a touch of heat! The nitro cold brew is a delight and will wake you up in no time! Plenty of seating options along with a sort of quiet/meeting room and outdoor seating. A solid coffee option when you're journeying around the downtown area.
First off the parking is shit. It's better to park at the far side of Bailey Park and have your car broken in to. Y0! The chicken biscuit with pimento cheese is straight fire. If I didn't have to file an insurance claim for breakfast I would've left a 5 star review.
Have you ever had someone tell you to try something because you would "love it," and you think, "Yeah. Ok. Maybe. "? This happened to me recently when my niece was SUPER excited over a biscuit she had from a coffee shop. Yes. A biscuit from a coffee shop. They don't mix in my mind either, so I listened to her excitement, I was happy for her, and because I am THAT Auntie, I even committed (internally) to check it out. After all, if my baby was that excited, I need to see what they're putting in their food anyway. IYKYK So, I make my way down to this Krankie's place. It seems ok. It's a beatnik-looking spot as you leave downtown Winston-Salem. It's a little unexpected, in that, it's quirky for this city. It's dark, moody, a lil' comfy. In addition to a Chai latte with soy milk, served hot, I was obligated to try one of their biscuits. OMG!!! My niece KNEW what she was trying to help her Auntie with, y'all. When I tell you that biscuit, "slapped!" Wooo child. I need to sit down and fan myself just this king about it. I mean, I really need some air really quick. Hot. I don't eat meat, so I had a (Vegan) Chicken Biscuit (they also have Vegan sausage, but that's not the same sausage in their sausage gravy, so be careful!) with egg and cheese, and then I added pimento cheese, plus many packets of my favorite hot sauce (Texas Pete !!!) in the bag. Baaaaaby. Just look at the pitcha! Look at it, now! Does that look like it doesn't taste good? Listennnnn. That biscuit tasted like my Momma or my Grammy rolled that biscuit that morning! It was so good and warm and ummmmm. , everything else was harmonious with it. And EVERYTHING was gigantic. They didn't hold anything back. And this was the PLANT-BASED Chicken, y'all. They have a whole menu of biscuits that have my mouth watering (Lord knows I am not going to eat them!), for stuff I KNOW you are going to love, if you eat meat. My BIL and niece don't miss a chance to stop by the place. Two warnings: #1 It is in "the cut." I drove past the place and the driveway before I found it, and their parking lot is neither paved nor ample. Be ready. #2 It stays busy during downtown lunch time, but they keep it rolling. However, it is one of those places worth standing around for. Bring your patience. I was in and out in less than five minutes, but it took that long because I was new. Most people love their coffee and chai. The chai for me was just "meh", but I am a tea snob (that's what traveling does to ya ).
How I haven't been here in all this time I've lived here I have no idea! Anyway! Now I have. I would so put this on my coffee shop rotation. Such a artsy and definitely industrial kinda place. Outside seating which was lovely on a nice cooler morning when we went, there were a lot of people working or meeting others . There's a lot of space inside also they have a covered patio area inside. They have a a great menu of all house made biscuits and biscuit sandwiches. Also sweet treats. Which all look amazingly delicious and very hard to decide what to get. I got a cappuccino and a biscuit with jam. Which was nice and warm and buttery, the jam is also house made and really good smeared in the biscuit. I wish they had skim milk, but they only offer oat and whole. So I had oat and had a really nice coffee! My friend had a cold brew and the espresso cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was picture beautiful! I tried it and it was really good except neither of us could detect any espresso! Still really good regardless! Enjoyed eating, drinking and chatting here. Great cool unique place! read more

Loved this spot for breakfast! It was a quick walk from my hotel. I got the blueberry biscuit chicken sandwich. It was so good and such a great balance of sweet and salty. Although there was a jam on the sandwich, it was a little dry and because it's a biscuit sandwich, it fell apart as I ate it. So quite a messy meal but the flavors were a 10/10. I visited a little later on a weekday so they unfortunately were out of the drink I wanted. They had a lot of coffee options and the service was quick. I took it to go but they had plenty of seating inside and outside. read more
I need to update my review for Krankies although not much has changed. Still the great coffee and biscuits that you can expect from them. They have changed the room in which you order which I like better because it's more spacious. I love a sweet and salty combo so I went with the bluebird. The biscuit was soft and the toppings were plentiful just like I like it. If the biscuit isn't sloppy I don't want it. My husband got the hangover biscuit with gravy on the side which was also heavenly. I need to stop forgetting about Krankies because their breakfast is elite! read more
I stopped by Krankies and tried their coffee and chicken biscuit, and it was pretty good. The coffee was smooth, fresh, and had a really nice flavor without being too strong. The biscuit was warm and flaky, and the chicken had a great seasoning with a good crunch. Everything tasted like it was made fresh. The service was quick and friendly, which made the visit even better. And it was pretty busy when i went... Overall, Krankies is definitely a spot I'd come back to for a solid breakfast and a good cup of coffee. read more

Krankies is a very cool space. The shop and roastery have a great atmosphere -- industrial, open, and full of character. It feels like the kind of place where serious coffee is happening, and the roasting operation and selection of beans definitely reinforce that impression. Unfortunately, my drinks didn't quite live up to the promise of the space. I ordered a small brown sugar iced latte, and it ended up feeling a bit flat. The espresso and the housemade flavor seemed to get lost, leaving the drink without the depth or complexity I was hoping for. I also tried the iced matcha with honey, which was similarly underwhelming. Not bad by any means, just a little muted and less vibrant than expected. That said, I'd absolutely be willing to come back and give Krankies another shot. Their selection of coffees looked fantastic, with a wide variety of roasts and flavor profiles available, and the roasting program clearly has a lot going for it. Next time I'd love to sit down, spend more time, and try one of their pour-overs, which feels like where their coffee might really shine. Overall: great space, impressive coffee lineup -- I just hope my next cup hits the mark a little better. read more

The gingerbread cold brew was ok. A little bit watery. The bluebird sandwich was amazing! My husband got the hangover, I didn't get a photo. But the bacon on his was alarming. Almost looked raw. He just took it off and still ate the sandwich. Over all good place. Very long line but got our food quickly. read more

My understanding is Krankie's has changed a bit in recent years from a somewhat low-key, hidden local gem serving only coffee to a more mainstream well-known shop that serves food, especially since the recent development in the Innovation District. I only recently moved to the Winston-Salem area, so I never knew that version, but I do think the current Krankie's is pretty nice too. I'm kind of basic in my coffee choices so I'm usually getting an Americano 90% of the time but every Americano I've gotten here has been perfect. The food which is apparently a new addition is where they really shine. They serve a variety of biscuits that have been amazing every time, from a classic style to a spicy "Nashville hot" chicken biscuit. Because I apparently hate my digestive system I usually get a Nashville hot chicken and pair it with a spicy Bloody Mary. I don't say this lightly but their spicy Bloody Mary's are also one of the better ones I've ever had. They also have little chaser bottles of High Life to go with your Bloody Mary or enjoy on its own, which is automatic kudos in my book. As if that's not cool enough, they also have an Art-O-Mat. Overall they are typically pretty busy in the morning, especially on Saturdays, but the service is usually quick, efficient and friendly. I've never had to wait long even during peak hours. The only downside I can think of is things add up here quick and I usually spend a little more than expected. Also their hours are a bit limited and could be longer. But overall this a solid local coffee place that fits the downtown Arts District vibe well, would recommend. read more
I really like Krankies vibe a lot. Either inside or outside, it's a nice venue to relax at with plenty of room. When the 40 car train comes by it creates an atmosphere that feels so cool, sitting at the edge of downtown Winston. Their chicken biscuits are great, everyone knows that. I've been working my way through their menu and tried the golden delicious today- fried chicken on a biscuit with sage apple butter, smoked Gouda and bacon. It was delicious, huge, lightly sweet and packed with flavor. Today I also tried the potato wedges with green sauce. These are a bit more skippable. Well seasoned but not crispy enough and a bit dry, the green sauce teeters on too spicy for me and these weren't the most satisfying. I also had a chai latte with oat milk which was well executed but not quite hot enough. All of the above came to about $21 which I regard as rather steep, so 4 stars for Krankies based on their overall value. read more

The sausage egg and cheese biscuit with the house made sausage is absolutely fantastic. I would opt for a cheddar rather than a white American cheese, but that's just a personal preference. However i requested jam and they gave me the most fantastic blueberry jam that was a wonderful addition to an already great breakfast. I paired it with my cortado and it was delightful. The room was full of laughter and everyone seemed happy to be there. A very friendly environment and a great group of gals working as well. I really enjoyed my experience and look forward to bringing my husband. read more
The coffee here is great! I'm pretty basic when it comes to coffees, but they had my go to drink, an iced caramel latte. Had excellent flavor and I really enjoyed it. As far as food, I chose to try the dirty south biscuit. Comes with fried chicken, pimento cheese, bacon, and hot sauce. I will say it was good. I think my taste buds are probably more suited for more sweet items on a biscuit. I've never had pimento cheese and hot sauce on a biscuit, so that was different for me. Was definitely my choice, so that's nothing against them. It was good, just something I probably wouldn't order again as a preference. If I come back, I would probably get what my wife got as I enjoyed her biscuit more. She went with the full Monty, which had bacon, egg, cheese along with blueberry jam. All of it stuffed in a blueberry biscuit. We also got a order of the potato wedges. They were a good side to have along with the biscuits. One thing that did stick out to me was when I paid, the tip gratuity was already selected for me to give 25%. I consider myself a good tipper, and always want to support good people and small businesses. However, I found that a bit odd because it felt kind of sneaky/trying to force me to give at least that amount. If you don't pay attention, you could slip up and give that without knowing so keep an eye out for that. Overall, would I check this place out again? The answer is yes. The coffee was great and the biscuits were very good. I just wish they would change that tipping system because that's definitely a turn off. read more
What a fun little hidden gem, we were in town visiting friends and they showed us this place. We wish we had one back home. These sandwiches are amazing, the chicken is fresh, and perfectly crunchy. We tried the dirty south and Krankie's classic. My favorite was the dirty south, I loved the pimento cheese aspect it just helped add a saucy aspect. My husband likes the classic. Both were amazing and for the price nit was a steal! The potato wedges were solid as well. The green sauce was a little spicy for me but had good flavor. The sandwiches come out quick but the line does get crazy the later in the morning it gets. read more
Interior has changed a bit to increase the amount of seating as this place continues to be packed outside the door during busy times. New menu items are always a delight, though missing their OG tots recently! Unfortunately, the last few visits my biscuit has completely fallen apart after a few bites - a mess is to be expected with these creations but I think some quality control assembling and heating the biscuits would go a long way. Definitely worth a visit if you're passing by! read more

I had the pleasure of trying Krankie's, still fairly new to the biscuit game with me recently starting to eat eggs. My co workers raved about Krankie's a lot though so I decided to go try them out. I got an egg and cheese biscuit with a vegan sausage patty. The egg and sausage patty tasted good but salty, however the biscuit was very crumbly like borderline impossible to eat and insanely salty. The star of the show was this blueberry lavender chai that they had. It was amazing I'd go back for that for sure. The service was pretty quick, I can see how parking can be hectic also watch out for a huge pothole in the main parking area. I love the rustic look they have going on inside and out. read more
How have I not made it to Karankies yet!? First time & met for early lunch - I ordered the Golden Delicious & my friend ordered Egg n Cheese (her fave). I've heard there can be long lines but we picked a good time, maybe 5 minutes in line. Ordered at the counter & found a table. Looks are deceiving I didn't realize how much seating there is, both inside & out. We sat inside & our orders were up! What a great combo of flavors w/apple & brie on the chicken w/some apple butter! Both orders were messy but delicious! Don't miss the sweets ate the counter either, biggest cookies I have ever seen - amazing! My new fave spot either for breakfast or lunch!! read more

I searched google for a coffee shop near me. I like to try new places and figured I would give this place a go. I found the coffee shop as I was driving and made a turn wondering where to park when I stumbled upon a small lot for customers. The lot was dirt and gravel with a short walk to the entrance. The coffee shop is in an older building on the corner of two roads. The outside was decent with a kids play area and outdoor seating. I entered the shop and noticed a large area with seating. It had a vibe like a brewery. Very cool though. I wandered around and finally found where to place my order. Staff was very kind and helped me with the menu. I ordered a latte which is my go to coffee at new places. I also ordered fried chicken on a blueberry biscuit. The coffee was okay. Not the best latte I have had nor the worst. I noticed they have many other options which I will try next time. The biscuit......Owww Myyyy was it good! It was huge too. Freshly made jumbo biscuit with a tender piece of chicken. I had to cut it to save some for later. I recommended trying this place for the food! I plan to return and try other things. read more

Okay the biscuits are amazingly delicious, but the star of the show was the chai latte. Seriously! One of the best I've ever had. I appreciate that they had oat milk as an alternative. Now back to the biscuits.. I tried the bluebird without cheese. The first thing I noticed was that it wasn't overly sweet at all. The bites of blueberry were both tart and sweet at the same time. The chicken was moist and crispy. A lot of breakfast spots tend to have dry chicken, but that wasn't my experience at Krankies. My friend chose to get just a plain biscuit with chicken and cheese. You know the chicken is good when you don't need to pair it with any other toppings and still devour every crumb. The inside is a bit dark, but there is plenty of seating. The outside is so adorable and has many seating options amongst flowers and plants. Super cute. I intended to go back and grab one of the scrumptious looking cinnamon rolls, but by the time we finished our meal, the place had a line out the door. Maybe next time! read more
First thing you will notice when approaching this adorable coffee and breakfast joint, is the fun building exterior. Lots of greenery, string lights, tables, and funky decor. It's a fun vibe. While there was a line, it moved very quickly. The staff was efficient in taking orders and getting food and drinks to customers. As a coffee house, they have classic offerings like drip, lattes, espresso, etc as well as what they call their house signatures which include some coffee and alcohol hybrids. I can't speak on the coffee side of things as ordered a mimosa with house squeezed orange juice for the cocktails menu. It came in a big old glass and was quite refreshing. Their small food menu consists of mostly Biscuits and a few sides like potato wedges and fruit. In my opinion the biscuits were so big you don't need the sides to feel satisfied. I was drawn to the Dirty South (brined & fried chicken, pimento cheese, bacon, Texas Pete) biscuit. It was a big, messy, and oh so delicious. The biscuit itself was fluffy, with the ideal mix of a little crunch and soft texture when you bite into it. Considering the generous amount of ingredients inside, including some wet ones like the sauce, the biscuit held together well. The fried chicken was moist with a nice thin layer of crust. Their pimento cheese and bacon was tasty and good compliments to the chicken. The Texas Pete added a little needed heat. I love all of these ingredients individually and loved them all together. What a lovely breakfast treat! read more

Is breakfast served up until closing time or only at certain hours? And is it available during the weekday? I want to try one of their biscuits but avoid the weekend crowd at the same time.
Same menu for all hours.
