This is my second favorite Waffle House in Tallahassee. My favorite is on Capital Circle NW (great for people watching). I usually come alone (my girl believes in brunch, not breakfast). I sit at the counter. Staff are friendly and attentive in a gruff, blue-collar sort of way. On my last visit, the cook even helped me when my server was busy. I love the coffee. I love the All Star Breakfast. I love the waffles. I love the hashbrowns. The steak is surprisingly good, too. I remember Anthony Bourdain saying the same. The only peculiarity of this location is the ATM which is a little weird for a restaurant. As a result, you will probably see a couple people walk in, get some $ and leave without ordering anything during your visit. Maybe it's so folks can get money for the jukebox which of course is a WH staple. If you've never been to the Waffle House, you're missing out.

A Waffle House skeptic, I found myself armed with a YouTube video of chefs Anthony Bourdain and Sean Brock ordering at what seems to be America's last breakfast counter. Staying true to their order, I went with the All-Star Special and got hash browns with the works, bacon, sunny-side-up eggs, buttered (margarined?) Sunbeam toast, and a delectable, light and fluffy pecan waffle made with White Lilly flour. I get it now. The servers were polite and professional. Couldn't have asked for more.

Awesome and quick service. I ordered the all star and got cheesy eggs, cheese grits, with bacon and sausage + chocolate chip waffle.

Eating at Waffle House is our Sunday morning routine. It's not fancy but offers a consistent breakfast week after week. My favorite is the cheese n eggs. The eggs are fluffy and cheesy. Add in toast, bacon & hash browns and you have a winner to start your day. My husband enjoys what used to be the Toddle House. A ham omelet, hash browns, sausage and toast. They don't offer the Toddle House special any longer but you can still order all items al a carte. Most of the staff is friendly and Waffle House offers a unique American diner experience.

    Another photo from the ants

The customer service overall was okay... but when I sat with my friend, there were flies in the seat and a bunch of ants on the table. We then asked to be moved to another table, come to find out, there were ants on the second table. We then asked to be moved about four times... but there were ants on every single table. I could not enjoy my meal because there were ants all on the table and crawling in the napkins. I had already killed about 10 of them from reaching my plate. Not a good experience here. I will NOT be coming back here.

Christian showed us to the patio and provided great service throughout the meal. get the Chicha Morada. It was excellent lightly refreshing non alcoholic beverage that will remind you of a light wassail perfect for warmer weather. We started off with the calamari. My son got the Lomo Saltado. My wife ordered a pasta dish (I forgot to get the name of). I ordered Pescado A Lo Macho. All dishes were fantastic. Flavors were excellent. I added there house sauce to mine, because I like it spicy. I thought this dish was amazing. My wife's taste thought the pasta was a little too rich with cream, but I thought it was perfect. All of us loved the flavors of the Lomo Saltado. We finished the meal with the best Tres Leches I have ever had. It was a great atmosphere. Thank you Chef Martin for sharing your home with us. Thank you to proprietor Gary and staff for making us welcome. One complaint, you are not in Mobile, Alabama. Bring your flavors here for us, please.

An impromptu trip to Peru is absolutely within reach, and shockingly affordable!…read more We had a last minute opportunity to go out for dinner and decided to make a reservation for Cafe de Martin because they had availability for our semi "early bird" time slot. We chose to dine on their colorful outdoor terrace, and when I tell you that we were transported to another country.... I mean, it literally took us out of Tally and dropped us in a tropical paradise. As the sun went down, the lights began to glow. The ambiance was surreal. I repeatedly told my husband I felt thousands of miles away from home. Was it the cafe lights or the Sangria? I can't be sure. The live music began and it was a whole vibe. Heads turned, ears perked up, and an entire terrace just exhaled. The sultry atmosphere was only overshadowed by the savory food. Dear Lord we ate far too much. What is that saying? Ask forgiveness not permission. Sounds about right. We started with cocktails and Fried Yucca. The Jamaican Margarita was a perfect blend with a sweet sugared rim. The Sangria was a full party in the glass with fresh fruit. The Yucca portion was hefty, but we ate it ALL. In hindsight, we should have saved more room for our actual meal. We ordered Lomo Saltado Beef that was so tender and rich, and it was accompanied by another hefty portion of indulgent carbs. See? That's where moderation in our starter would have been wise. Ahh lessons learned. If we had saved half of the Yucca for leftovers it would have reheated in an air fryer beautifully. We also ordered the Escabeche which was a beautifully fried , snapper filet served with sweet potato and rice. The sauce was simple and elegant with that classic tart vinegar bite. We looked at the dessert menu. I repeat, looked. We simply had no more room. We'll be back soon and promise to make it to the dessert menu and coffee.

Of late we have had some success getting here during their lunch hours which has reminded me of just how good they are. The menu changes some pretty regularly so there are new ideas to try over time. There also are dishes that have stood the test of time that will always be present. The rainbow trout is one of those and you will never go wrong ordering that. Always delicious. Otherwise have at the several choices that may appeal to your taste. I doubt that you won't like it. The location is a converted mini market. I am remembering that the first restaurant conversion was a classic diner that was good for breakfast but Kool Beanz has been here for a long time and thriving. Some of the best seats in the house can actually be on a stool at the counter watching the chefs ply their trade. There's an additional large dining room at the end of the building and they have created a nice outdoor space as well. What may be hard to come by when they are busy is a parking space. Service has always been friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable considering the creativity that is involved. You will pay more at dinner which is why we love to catch them at lunch.
