I live in California. We don't have a Waffle House here. The closest ones are in Tucson or Phoenix, Arizona. So, any time I visit either city, I make sure to have at least one stop to the Waffle House. Why? I LOVE this place! I am impressed and blown away every time I eat at the Waffle House just how inexpensive it is for good food. I am also fascinated by the layout and how the ordering process works and love being so close to the action. Some may find this the negative to the breakfast experience but not me. It truly does intrigue me. On this visit to the Valley of the Sun, I brought the family to this Waffle House location near my kids debate tournament. Yes, we passed by some swanky breakfast place just a mere two blocks away that look quite nice from the outside. Nope, I was getting some good cooking at some good pricing. I was excited! We entered the busy restaurant around 9:00 in the morning on a Saturday. It was pretty busy and my family of six wasn't going to make it in the booths made for four. The counter was spotted with people as well, so that wasn't going to work, either. So, we split up and I joined my daughter at the counter while the rest of the family sat in the booth. Our waitress was sweet and very helpful and wouldn't accept our apologies for splitting the family up. "Don't you even worry about it, I can take care of you!" she said with a genuine smile. She took our order and called - and I mean called - it into the cooks. I loved it! Man, as I am writing this, I'm starting to get hungry! Okay, so I went nuts and ordered the single waffle, two eggs up, raisin toast, hash browns, and bacon. I don't mess around at the Waffle House! When I got it, I ate every bite in delight. It was all perfect. Again, I don't get the negativity to this place. For the price you are paying, this is a great value of quality food! Now, I will fully disclose that other members of my family are not as big as a fan of the Waffle House as I am. My son would have rather gone to that other place down the street and my daughter mentioned that it was "alright". I just keep thinking how good the food was and how fun the atmosphere is all for about $40 for a family of six! This is way more a grand slam than Denny's could ever hope for! They don't have these in California. Made a pilgrimage to this particular Waffle House during our last trip to Scottsdale, before hitting the Musical Instrument Museum right down the road. Food/quality is consistent and pretty much the same at every location. Limited old school menu of eggs, meats, starches (grits, yum), in different combinations; and yes, waffles. As always, everything was perfectly cooked and tastes decent for the price - which is incredibly low compared to just about anyplace else around. I'm not looking to drop $100 so my kids can eat breakfast at the "Scottsdale Farm-to-Table Brunchery." They are HAPPY here. It seems like a lot a food when you order, but somehow, someway, you manage to eat it all. What we really liked was the service. Everything was super fast and efficient. Our waitress was absolutely delightful - commenting on how polite our kids were, telling us little stories, checking up on us every couple of minutes. Rumor or not? Eating alone, I took a seat at the counter that wraps around the kitchen in an "L" shape. The cooks and staff are wearing NFL gear it being a fall Sunday and all. We were greeted at the door by a young lady letting me know it would be a 20 min wait for a booth. The place is a bit small and looks like it may fit about 100? Once inside Angel greeted us with our menus. Food came to us QUICK!! We had: Peanut butter waffle - it's peanut butter chips melted on waffles. yum!! Plain waffle - butter n maple syrup soooo good! They also serve lunch items as well, but I strictly come here for the breakfast. Remind you, they keep it basic. Toast options - White, wheat, or raisin. Hashbrowns, if you want cheese, they literally put a slice of cheese on top of your hashbrowns. Our table ordered the basics - waffles, eggs, bacon, toast, hashbrowns. This time I tried hashbrowns scattered "all the way", which means they load up your hashbrowns with everything you can think of. It may sound not as appetizing nor look it, but surprisingly it's not bad. I probably wouldn't order it every time, but once in a while is good when you want to change it up. Stopped in at the I-17 and Deer Valley Rd. Waffle House in Phoenix. I haven't been in a few months, but have been to this location many times. The service (Shelly) was phenomenal! She was efficient, fun and friendly. I didn't have to ask for anything. She was on top of it all and she was very busy. I noticed the cooks, greeter and other servers-including the manager (I assume) working really hard to take care of all of the hungry customers. Since moving, this seems to be the closest Waffle House to me and I've eaten here a few times already. Place is just like all the other waffle houses in regards to menu and size, but let me tell you, this is probably one of the weirdest groups of clientele I have experienced at a Waffle House yet. I've eaten at a few different Waffle Houses in the Valley and one would think that eating close to ASU's campus would bring in the college weirdos and a crazy mix of people. Surprisingly enough, its THIS waffle house has the crazy people mix! weird, huh? That's what I thought. This time around I went yesterday morning with a friend whom I treated to breakfast after helping me out doing some heavy lifting in the apartment. We scooted up to the waffle house to grab a quick bite to eat and even he noticed how random the people were here. For starters, our waitress was a little koo koo. We said something to her and she went into some random speech that neither one of us could understand. We tried to figure out what she was saying, but neither one of us could figure it out. We had a good laugh about it later, but while she was rambling we just kind of smiled and nodded our heads. Other notable people at this restaurant while we were there: young cute douche-bag sitting at the counter alone looking depressed eating his breakfast with his earphones in jamming to music. Two old yuppie biker dudes who came in and were trying to pass as hardened bikers, but were clearly NOT. (that roused a good laugh between said friend and I. They were driving sissy dirt bikes, but dressing like Hells Angels, despite the fact that they were totally married church guys with wives at home who probably bossed them around a lot.) Crazy waitress listed above who rambled incoherently, a few families and other people as well.
