The little one cleaned her plate too, so the tenders passed the toughest food critics in America. The salad, however, looked like someone whispered the word "vegetables" over a bowl of lettuce and tossed in a little shredded cheese for moral support. It wasn't bad--it just wasn't much of a salad. Then came the part that made me wonder if common sense had taken the night off. French fries arrived without ketchup. That's not an oversight; that's a misdemeanor in at least twelve Southern states. A burger without mayo is enough to have St. Peter squinting suspiciously at your résumé. But the real masterpiece? They sent a salad...and not one plastic fork. Now, I don't know who they think orders salads through DoorDash. Maybe they assume we're all carrying silverware in the glove compartment next to the jumper cables. Perhaps they envision us spearing lettuce with a pocketknife like Daniel Boone. The food itself was mostly good, and I'd order again. But somewhere between the kitchen and the delivery bag, somebody forgot that people generally need utensils to eat a salad and condiments to enjoy fries. I ordered a cup of gumbo along with the shrimp and grits, and I thought I was dining down in New Orleans. It was some of the best gumbo I have eaten outside of Louisiana.
