Yelp! We made it to the river top again! It's Sunday and folks is hungry! This place is crowded! We are a party of 2. Bae and I are returning from the ATL and decided to crossover Interstate 431 to Top O! There is a wait and these folks just opened the doors. After 20 mins, we were seated by the window on the Coosa River side. Beautiful! But, we here for this food. Our server is Aly! Girl you nice and efficient. You are top tier here. We glad we have you. Of course we got greens, pickled onions, coleslaw and cornbread to start! This stuff here good. Bae got the seafood platter, with lots of stuff. I got the river market catfish special. It's a 1lb of catfish with hush puppies and a baked potato. And, I still ordered a side of onion rings. I'm too full too quick. This stuff here good. Y'all already know, we come back all the time! When I'm happy, I show back up! read more

For a Saturday evening, we were sat within 5 minutes wait which was great. We were sat at a booth by a large window facing the lake which was beautiful. Every table comes with a cast iron skillet of cornbread, slaw, and pickled cabbage. The waitress was attentive to our table's needs and checked in regularly. The food was hot and the crab tasted so fresh and well seasoned- the shrimp was... ok (didn't taste as fresh). My husband enjoyed his catfish. I think the hushpuppies were the star of the show. Everything was what we had hoped for at Top O the River. read more

Service was top notch, nice job Lizah. Fried fried fried, 70% of the menu entrées are fried. The starter brought to the table, coleslaw, fresh onions in white vinegar and jalapeño corn bread and its own pan. Interesting and good. My wife had the shrimp scampi, overcooked, son had the fried catfish platter that he said was underwhelming, and I had an imitation of crab platter. Did not know it was imitation till it got to the table. read more

I hadn't been here in years and it's just as good as i remembered. Staff was very nice and the hostess even took her time walking us to the table which I truely appreciated as I was with an elderly lady that walked a little slow. From what I seen everything looked clean and in order. I had the riverboat special and took enough food home for another meal. Great value picking that one. Ms Judy had the combo dinner with fried gulf shrimp and crab blend. Definitely be going back. read more

I've been hearing about Top O' the River since my days at Jacksonville State, and I finally got to try it today with a big group from church celebrating a birthday. The food was worth the wait--crispy, well-seasoned catfish, great cornbread, and generous portions all around. Despite how busy it was, the service was smooth and friendly. It's easy to see why this place has such a good reputation. Great Southern food, great company--definitely lived up to the hype. read more

One of if not our favorite restaurant to get our occasional fried seafood! We go for the whole fried catfish, but nothing I've ever had wasn't great! You start with some amazing complimentary cole slaw, pickled onions and corn bread. We love that with some of their delicious turnip greens. Although the highlight is their seafood, my daughter loves the grilled chicken fingers. They are marinated in what tastes like a Dales marinade and grilled to perfection. Our preferred location is Gadsden. It's about an hour drive but so worth it! Our server Aly was amazing! She was attentive and efficient with the kindest, most sincere personality! read more

Good place on the River in Gadsden. Seafood, something for everyone ¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was my 1st experience at Top O the River. Me and my boyfriend was here in town for a wrestling event and thought we'll grab a bite to eat before hand. The restaurant is huge with enough tables to fill on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately and had a table by the window looking out at the lake. They gave us coleslaw, cornbread and pickle onions to start our meal off which I thought the cornbread was good. We pretty much ordered the same entree with catfish fillets except for me having the jumbo fried shrimp and he having the jumbo shrimp scampi. Besides the coleslaw and collard greens (which we didn't get) there's only baked potato and French fries to choose from. We both agreed that our shrimps were good, but the catfish didn't have any type of seasoning other than the cornmeal they used for frying the fish with. read more

The customer service is good. Food is incredible, I would definitely recommend trying it.

My family went there yesterday for dinner. We always wanted to try this restaurant and a ton of people said it was really good. It wasn't... food was dried out, not a lot of flavor. We could have gotten better catfish at Jacks. It's extremely overpriced for what it was and not a very good menu selection. Ribeye was too thin and extremely overpriced! 30 dollars for a tasteless steak and some dry cornbread. The best thing that we ate was the mozzarella sticks which seemed like they were out of a box from Walmart! We spent over 200 dollars for low equality dried out food. Why would they offer imitation crab at a seafood restaurant and the stuff crab didn't even taste like crab. They put dressing in a crab shell and called it crab. Couldn't even taste the crab. We are very disappointed with this place. There are MANY other restaurants that are in Gadsden that are WAY better and this place is NOT good. Save your money and go to Bama bucks! It's a million times better! read more

Service was awesome but the food not so much. I ordered Ribeye steak and shrimp. The photo showed a 3/4 to 1 in ribeye. I received a 1/4 inch med steak. It was not marbled like a ribeye and tasted like it was soaked in a1 steak sauce. Really gross with a strange ta read more

We went to Top O' the River in Gadsden for dinner. Any expectations we had were incredibly exceeded! The food, service, and ambiance were perfect! Our meals, Shrimp Scampi and K-Bob Combo (chicken and shrimp), were fresh and flavorful. As appetizers, we were served homemade cornbread, coleslaw, and pickled onions. With our meals, we had baked potatoes and homemade hushpuppies. We ate everything! For a restaurant with a massive dining room, you might expect to be lost in the crowd. Nothing could be further from the truth. The staff was attentive and they all made us feel very welcome. In addition to a good meal and good service, our booth was right on the water! The rustic décor took us back to fish and seafood houses of yesteryear. After dinner, we fed the ducks, fish, and turtles outside on their deck. What fun! We definitely recommend Top O' the River in Gadsden. read more

It's overwhelming, I was deceived by friends telling me this was a great place to eat it. Well known the food is great. The atmosphere is nice however is not my style. It's a buffet type smorgasbord herds of people very crowded picnic style not my choice and then we went on a Sunday they do not serve alcohol. Everything is fried or pickled for those that are health conscience. This is not the place to be. The appetizers are fried. The food is fried the dishes are the camp style tin or aluminum plates. Everything starts at $21.95 and up.. read more

Best service that I have had in a while. Whole catfish was on point as well as hush puppies and slaw. Will definitely be back.

Top of the River is your classic type of seafood restaurant that's going to have the same menu no matter what. The food is always good, as well as the portion sizes. I do wish that they would redo the menu and add more items. I also wish the owners would put some money into the restaurant and renovate all of them. They are very worn out... from the seating to the tables to the restrooms and the restaurant itself. You can just tell it past time to renovate. Other than that, it's a very consistent restaurant with good service and food. read more

I enjoyed my meal. I had the broiled catfish plate. Everything was excellent. I will return.

Sounds like seafood restaurant, but didn't have that many options for different types of fish. Lots of shrimp and catfish.

The food was good, as expected. However, something very strange happened during our visit. I was able to meet up with an old friend when passing through town. It was just the two of us at the table. In the middle of our conversation, a bus boy walked up and handed her a pink bouncy ball without saying a word. This was very strange and off putting... Our server was good, but her accent was very strong and I couldn't understand much of what she was saying. However she was quick with our food and made sure we had everything we needed. A bit pricey but good. *EDIT* we eventually accosted the young man and asked why he chose us for the bouncy ball. He explained it was a kind gesture and he uses his tips to get them from the machine. This has brought this review up a whole star. Give this young man a raise -Joanie read more

It was great! Good food and service. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I'd highly recommend it if you're in the mood for seafood. My only complaint is they don't have the beans that the Anniston location offers and that the parking spaces are pretty tight. read more

Drove down and had Sunday dinner here with the family. I'd never been to this location so I was excited to give it a try since it's located right off the river. There was no wait and we were immediately greeted and seated by the window as requested. We reviewed the menu and ordered greens and onion rings for apps. They provided complimentary cornbread, coleslaw and onions. The onion rings were big and crunchy, and the greens had lots of favor. I don't eat slaw but my family enjoyed it and the cornbread. I got the sampler plate (popcorn shrimp, fried shrimp, catfish filets, boiled shrimp, crab) and swapped the imitation crab for shrimp scampi. I opted for a baked potato as my side. Everything on my plate was so good! It was plenty of food especially after the apps. So I had lots to take home. They only had Tabasco hot sauce which is no-go for me when dealing with a southern restaurant that serves mainly fried food. (Where's Frank's, Texas Pete, Crystal or Louisiana?) I tasted the chicken fingers and they were shockingly very very good. Juicy and flavorful! Our waitress was attentive and kind... lacking that Southern charm that I expect at a place like this but she got the job done. We already have plans to return and I guess I'll have hot sauce in my bag.‍ read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and finally had a chance the beginning of April. The restaurant was busy but we were able to be seated quickly. The friends that we met have eaten at the restaurant several times so we went along with their guidance on what to order. I ordered the catfish and we shared the collard greens, pickled onions and cornbread. I also had fries with my catfish. The catfish was okay. Maybe it was overcooked and to me it didn't have much flavor or seasoning. The fries were okay. The greens reminded me of glory greens, not bad. The pickled onions were a nice pairing with the greens. Overall, I thought the food was okay. If the opportunity to return, I may to try another menu item. read more

I shared the stuffed crab and chicken with my mom it came with a side of fries! It was okay the chicken was kind of wet. The French fries were typical. I did not eat the crab because I do not find those types of food good but my mom did eat it and said it was not very good. The service is okay you have to flag down your waiters and ours did not come very often. You are right by a river. It looks like a swamp but is pretty! For some reason everything I ate tasted like dirty water including my water that is why after I took a sip, I ordered lemonade. I personally feel like that was me making me feel that way. I would love to know if you felt that too! They did have advertisements on their tables which is a great idea. Overall it is pretty cozy and the outside scenery is great!! This is not a bad place to eat although I do not think I would come back! read more
