Fried flounder plate
Lori P.

Our food was good, seasoned well and not greasy at all. Hubby got the fried flounder with fries, hush puppies and coleslaw and I got the shrimp and grits. Our one complaint is that while the fish and hush puppies were hot, the fries and the shrimp and grits were barely warm. Our server was good and attentive. Hope that the next time we visit things will be a little better temperature wise.

Fried Swordfish Bites on dirty rice.

We just love this place! So much variety!! Freshest seafood, excellently prepared. Quite a value for your money as well!

For where it is This seems to b the best restaurant around and it shows. The whole time we were in there a steady stream of people(mostly older came in) BUT to me it just wasn't all of that. The waitress wasn't all that friendly (but it was super busy ), but the food came out fast . There were some hit and misses though. So for a app I got the pimento cheese balls and my husband got the gator bites. The gator bites were really good (I dont even like gator but they were tender and very good) The pimento cheese balls were like softball size (I'm not lying . They were huge. They were good also. Honestly that's all I liked. I got a redfish plate and my husband got swordfish. I don't like strong fish so I tasted his. We swapped . The way the grits are done with the Conecuh. It overpowers the fish. It tasted wonky to me. I would have rather had cheese grits underneath . Dont get me wrong I love Conecuh just the pairing with fish doesn't go together at all. What concerned me the most though was there was zip hand soap in ladies room. I was thinking if there is zero hand soap then the employees are not washing their hands. Just eww!! So then all I could think about was unwashed hands plating my food , etc. Eh one visit was quite enough for me . This also is a fish market? When we went there were zero fish in the cases so ??? Just labels..weird

Seafood Gumbo - Large, no seafood?

I had lunch at Capeside and ordered the seafood gumbo. Being that it supposed to be SEAFOOD" I expected seafood to be included. It did not have a single bite of any type of seafood. I ask the waitress to redo the order and she did. Still very disappointing. Two popcorn shrimp and nothing else.

There aren't that many places to get seafood in the area. This one's food is delicious. They also sell seafood that you can take home and cook. The first thing I noticed there was that there were lots of cars/trucks in the parking lot. That was a good sign. The second thing I noticed was that the restaurant and store inside did not smell fishy at all. Another huge plus. Then, when we got seated, the table was very clean and I appreciated that. The menu has fried, grilled, and steamed options. They had a whole page of specials and then a whole page of their regular menu. There were even a few choices for "land lovers." They have Pepsi products. They also had a ton of sides listed and it was hard to choose. I got a side House salad and shrimp and crawfish boil. I wasn't sure how much to get. Ended up getting half a pound of shrimp and a pound of crawfish, with potatoes and corn. Well, I ate as much as I could and still ended up taking home leftovers. I got the seafood boil with Cajun seasoning but it was very mild. I think they were erring on the side of caution bc everyone has a different spice tolerance. Like I said, I ate til I was full. Not complaining. I am looking forward to going there again to try other stuff. Also, our waitress was great. One thing, it is kind of a small place and they don't have a whole lot of staff, so don't go if you're in a rush or have a large group on a Saturday night or something.

The aftermath of my friend's 2 pounds of snow crab legs - served with drawn butter and hush puppies

We LOVE Capeside! Fresh seafood at affordable prices. It's a "seat yourself" restaurant in Rainbow City. One thing to note: they do not serve alcohol, but you can BYOB and they'll supply glassware and bottle openers. Food and service are consistently outstanding. While not fancy, the restaurant is decorated in casual beach-themed decor. Their crab legs are always good (and super cheap at around $11 per pound at the time of this review) as are the shrimp tacos, ahi tuna nachos, fish & chips, and hush puppies. We've yet to be dissatisfied with anything at Capeside.

The fish is so fresh you can almost smell the salt air. Preparations are very well cooked and presented. Two menus offer a variety of choices: a standard everyday list of options plus a list of daily specials (while supplies last). Of all our local dining, this is first choice for seafood (even better than most places we have tried along the Gulf coast). If available, go for the Chilean Sea Bass. Also delighted in Blackened Redfish smothered in lime crema sauce. Seating can be limited when parking lot is full. Don't expect fancy, but it is clean and cozy. Service is usually good and able to answer questions. Overall, Capeside is our favorite place for a special meal. Have visited mostly on weekend mid-afternoons. Not open Mondays.

What a find! Server was very attentive. Shrimp Basket was delicious...lightly battered not disguising the taste of fresh seafood.

In all fairness I don't think I realized that this was a food store, not sure I knew what it was, but I wasn't thinking food store. This place is really pretty cool. They have incredible prices on all sorts of regular household food items. Breads, produce, frozen food, canned food to name a few items, They also have household items like tp, paper towels, paper plates, charcoal, beer (some ciders I've never seen). Everything is at extreme discounted prices, and the seasonal items look like they get cheaper as you get further into that particular season so they can clear things out for the next items they need to get out. Note, they do have some brand items, but a lot of the things they sell are not specific brand names you will be familiar with. That being said, one example, the Salsa flavored tortilla chips, were they Doritos, no. Were they just as fresh and just as good, absolutely, but at about 1/2 the price. Will they be the solution for all your shopping needs, probably not. Could they cut a chunk off of your weekly shopping trip tab, yes! I will be checking these guys out more often.
