I stopped by Pruetts BBQ and ordered the two catfish fillets with fries, squash, and onion rings. The staff was friendly, and the meal came out quickly. The catfish fillets were a little smaller than I expected, and overall the food was just average for me. Nothing was bad, but it didn't really stand out from other fried food I've had. I'd definitely eat here again because I'd like to give some of the BBQ or other menu items a try. This visit just wasn't enough to make me a regular for the catfish. read more

Introduced a coworker today to PBQ and enjoyed a very good lunch. I went with the daily special of roast pork with a side of cream corn and squash casserole. Definitely my favorite place in Gadsden! We typically go on Saturday so that we can get their baked ham special, but honestly all their food is delicious! It can get really busy on the weekends, but it's a large restaurant so the wait usually isn't too long. The space isn't anything super nice, but it's a classic BBQ joint. I had great hopes for this restaurant after a recent stay nearby for a festival. The food came out after a small wait and it was cooked fresh to order. My chicken tenders were real breast meat, not processed. However, for some reason, they were very tough to chew. They were cooked to a beautiful golden brown color and were not overcooked. They were just.....tough and unenjoyable. My friend was offered a chicken tender to go with his meal because one of the waitresses that delivered our food noticed that his fried chicken pieces were a bit on the small side. However, after a wait, the tender never made it to the his plate. The sides lacked seasoning and were forgettable. Overall, the service was decent, although we felt a little rushed as our server never asked if we wanted dessert or another dish to go but was served the ticket extra fast. Maybe the bbq here is the star. Don't let this review stop you from eating here. Just don't say you weren't warned. Oh, for both of our meals, we spent about $28. Not too bad. read more

Mid to poor quality food, very popular amongst the aging population of Gadsden and Rainbow City. BBQ is under seasoned, ordered their specialty loaded baked potato and received cubed ham as my meat option. Loud, crowded seating area if you are looking for a place to bring children, I've heard the specials are okay, but the 4-5 times I've been here have been grossly underwhelming. Would recommend trying somewhere else if I could only eat at one restaurant on my stop through Gadsden. The $1-$2 bbq sandwiches at their drive through next door aren't the worst option if you're looking to grab something on the go, burgers aren't terrible either, drive through is the only redeeming quality alongside the relatively decent service if you choose to sit down. read more

All 3 recommended Pruitt's BBQ so of course we had to try it! This is so much more than a BBQ place. Wednesday at 3:30 pm and the place was packed. Pruett's is a wonderful family-owned and operated restaurant that has been serving the Gadsden community for decades. It is casual, down-to-earth southern experience. It's menu is big and features barbecue, fried chicken, fried catfish, and southern sides. There are daily specials aptly listed under "Screen Door Specials". I had lunch with my friend Tommy on Monday. Tommy grew up in Gadsden, and he knew I would enjoy a "locals" favorite. I had fried catfish and my two sides were Brunswick stew and collards greens. You can't get a more "southern" combination than that! You can order the catfish as either boneless fillets or the whole fish, and I choose the whole fish. It was hot and fried perfectly. The tender fish easily fell off the bones. My sides were excellent too. The collards were especially good. They were seasoned well and didn't need any additional vinegar/hot sauce. Do not confuse with Lil Pruett's, located literally next door and is just the fast (drive through only) scaled down menu so that you can get in and out quickly. This place is pretty legit. They can be totally slammed on a Saturday afternoon so make sure to allocate some time properly. Our server was very friendly and was patient with me as it was my first visit. It's really hard to go wrong with any of the food they have to offer, unless you just don't like something specifically that they offer. Prices are competitive and it will run you and a significant other $25 - $35 (including tip). Quality food from a quality establishment. We have been trying our best to find some quality BBQ in northeast Alabama since we moved back here in August, but we haven't really found anything that is worth writing home about yet. We expected a place called 'Pruett's Bar-B-Q' to take more pride in their BBQ, but we were sorely mistaken. Not only was it soggy and bland, but they REALLY skimped on the sauce. Tried bbq in the south for the first time being from New York visiting my husband's grandfather in Gadsden at Pruett's and that smoky flavor on the ribs is on point. Mac and cheese is good and the coleslaw is probably the best I've ever had. The BBQ sauce is a vinegary tasty thin sauce that pairs well with the smoky flavors. Very busy but the wait was actually super quick. They got us in with less than a 5 minute wait for 3 people despite there being a line out the door and the waiting area full. The waitresses were great, but this is definitely one of the worst barbecue places I've ever been to. The only thing I liked okay was the mac and cheese. The barbecued beef, which they didn't even call brisket, looked like a roast that had been cooked in the oven that they smeared some of their terrible barbecue sauce on. It didn't have a smoky flavor at all, and it tasted warmed over. Someone else at the table commented that their barbecue didn't have any Smoky taste to it as well.
