I used to work for waffle house in fort Walton on the corner of racetrack and Beal. I worked there in a deplorable toxic environment for a year netting a whopping 13k for all my trouble. What many of you might not know is that the place has always been a filthy roach motel. I frequently found roaches in the buckets of condiments under the cabinets the same place they store opened butter to soften up over night. I often found roaches skating around on that butter as well. This is the very butter they slather on every slice of toast. When I complained to Ben the manager of the store he would get upset and proclaim them to be palmetto bugs and not roaches despite wikipedia defining them as a type of roach. He frequently said there was nothing that could be done as this is Florida. There were times when these monsters would fly into people's tables and crawl over their food right in front of them. How they were never shut down is beyond me. After I quit that job I moved on to another restaurant. One somehow magically free of the crawling menace that race track seems so unable to rid itself of. In fact not even the other waffle house locations in that district seem to have any. On top of the roaches the sugar, the sodas and the juices were usually infested with sugar ants as well. The creepy crawlies aside that manager would regularly have us cook spoiled foods. I recall having sausage patties that smelled like a wet sock when cooked which would stay pink in the middle that he would not want to throw out. I frequently had to conspire with other cooks to sneak whole boxes of rotten sausage out to the dumpster and cover them up with trash so that Ben the manager would not get upset we hurt his food costs. Waffle house management could not give less of a damn if they tried. For them it's all about their bonus. Food costs eat up their bonus not having shifts covered eats into their bonus so they keep toxic employees whose only redeeming qualities were that they showed up. Even if management knew they created a stressful work environment for other employees, ensuring that the good ones frequently quit and move on to real jobs that pay a living wage. If I were you I would not eat at that store there are many other fine locations in the area to choose from instead. Hell even the other waffle house locations are only a few minutes drive away. That place isn't worth the risk to your health. Ontop of being a hazard to your health the management there are as toxic as the food. Should you choose to call corporate to make complaints they will not hesitate to ban you from their store as they did with me. So if you are looking for good food, waffle house racetrack in fort Walton beach Florida is a place you should avoid at all costs read more
