Waffle House has become an iconic presence on the culinary landscape here in the southeastern United States. It seems that their familiar logo beckons in all of its bright yellow neon glory road-weary travelers, partying college kids, parents with kids in tow, hungry workers seeking a casual and quick sit-down meal and just about everyone else from every walk of life. Since Waffle House opened its first location back on September 5, 1955 in Avondale Estates, Georgia, it quickly established itself by offering a consistent selection of food and by being open twenty-four hours a day. For me, the biggest appeal of Waffle House has always been their hash browns, which you can get basic or topped with a variety of toppings such as chili, white sausage gravy, cheese, ham, onions and so many more items and you can combine these toppings in a multitude of ways. For my main course, I have usually gone with their patty melts or one of their egg breakfast options. I myself can see the strangeness that I have never having a waffle and a business where waffle is in their very name, but I prefer a more savory breakfast than a sweet one. If you are in the southeast United States, odds are you have probably passed a Waffle House location. It seems that they are on almost every major highway exit ramp and strategically placed throughout most cities and towns in the southeast. If you see one, give them a try. read more

Super convenient located near hotels. There wasn't much of a wait. Only one waitress and the cook were there. The waitress finished taking two patron's orders and the cook suggested she also take mine to have the order being cooked at once. She disagreed by ignoring it. He didn't take long to make my meal though once he got started. The grits were already made beforehand. The grits were MUSHY and watery tasting. I'm big on grits for every breakfast meal. I took 3 small bites. Made me wish for cereal as dinner instead. My pecan waffle was the the best and he cook didn't skimp one the pecans. The sausage was good as expected. The eggs were alright. I'm a fan of WH but the lead line cook was a jerk. And loud about it so the whole shop could hear. The silence of the other customers was deafening. He was snarky and confrontational about a waffle I ordered. He argued that I couldn't have had the waffle I ordered at a Waffle House in Nashville. He was clearly "put out" that I wouldn't back down. Two problems here, hygiene and food service: 1.) That 94% health/hygiene rating is undeserved. I witnessed a server use her bare hand to pick a handful of ham bits out of the prep line, then start eating it as she walked to a table to sit and take a little break. Sadly, the next two people who walked through the door were clueless when they sat in her section and she proceeded to serve them (and set the table) without bothering to wash her hands. Gross. 2.) I had the easiest order ever in the history of Waffle House: an order of hash browns, scattered, smothered, and covered, with a side of sausage. I said, "can you really fry those onions for me? I like them a little crispy." That was clearly my mistake. What I ended up being presented with was an inedible plate of burnt, cold onions piled on top of hash browns with cheese. There was clearly some miscommunication between my server and the cook, because I witnessed them argue about the onions that had been pre-cooked/forgotten about/left to burn/plated and grown cold. My partner ordered a full-on meal, and his entire meal (toast/eggs/hash brown/etc.) came piping hot to the table while I had to sit and watch him eat because the folks behind the counter didn't have their act together enough to make a simple order of hashbrowns. Apparently the server started cooking my onions, the cook objected to her working on his line and then proceeded to just let my shit burn out of spite when the server got back to serving tables. At one point when she realized he'd let my onions burn, rather than remake them and start over, she shouted at him, "I told you she wanted them crispy that's why I started them to be cooked INTO the hash browns!" Neither one of them, in their infinite wisdom, thought it might be a smart idea to re-make the clearly burned plate of onions. Nope. Instead, she actually served them to me. I actually had a bite of the hash browns, trying to convince myself I could eat around the burned bits. I just couldn't do it. It was just a gross, black-speckled plate of burned s&#%. I just decided to eat my sausage instead, stole a piece of toast from my partner, and didn't make a deal out of it. It's Valentine's Day, I'm with my boo, and I don't want to be a b*&#! about hash browns, right? But when it came time to tip I could not allow my partner to give the server a tip because in the end, SHE'S the one who brought a plate of burned food to my table, KNOWING it was inedible. The worst/best part? The girl KNEW what she'd done was wrong, and came over to ask if she could have the hash browns re-made for me, or to get me some toast...but only AFTER my partner insisted the hash browns be removed from the bill. She had no problems putting an inedible plate of food in front of me, at one point even asking me, "How's everything tasting!" KNOWING IT WAS S%!*, but then wants to act guilty when the food has to be removed from the bill. Seriously, Waffle House. Ya'll make hash browns all day. ALL. DAMN. DAY. How in the world do you mess this up?! "Hash browns scattered, smothered, and covered" is a classic...of YOUR OWN MAKING. HOW IS THIS LEVEL OF INCOMPETENCE REAL IN 2022?! You are LUCKY I did not take a picture of that mess that was presented to me, Waffle House. You are lucky I did not take a video of that woman eating off the food prep line, Waffle House. Some of the laziest people alive work here. Tried to order to go food... kept calling periodically for about 30 min each time receiving a voicemail they were too busy to accept to go orders. Food was fine, service, awful. Bald man with a little necklace was our server. Ectremely rude, sassy, and straight up angry. He spoke to us in a very rude tone, when we went to pay he gave us a very terrible attitude, throwing our receipts on to the counter as we walked away. I know he might've been stressed out , or going through somethin, but there was no need to take it out on us. We were very respectfu, saying please and thank you. He did not reciprocate. Stopped into store #360 on the way out of town. This family run location was so kind and friendly. We arrived just before they had to close due to short staffing and took care of us without a hesitation. We visited this WH back in October, which was conveniently right across the street from our hotel. It was great! Super cold in our booth, but the server realized that pretty quickly when she took our order and made it a point to turn the heat up for us. Okay, so I will start this review by saying that I wasn't physically able to eat the take out food that we purchased here as I was intoxicated and regurgitating. That being said, I have never seen to-go food from Waffle House look as good as it looked here. Totally blown away. I think it looked better than when you order inside if you can believe that. I've heard lots of very different things about this place, but all that aside, this location of Waffle House was very nice. The inside looks like a diner, and we were seated pretty much right next to the cooks who made our food. The waitresses were extremely friendly, and our food was out before we knew it. The hash browns are their trademark item, and they were very good. I put jalapenos and onions on my hash browns, and they were absolutely scrumptious. What's more, the Angus Cheeseburger I got was really good, as was the Chicken sandwich. The meat was very tender and delicious. We also ordered a steak there, which was not the greatest, but passable. I hear most waffle houses are pretty ghetto, but this place seemed far from it. Though I would probably not drive ALL the way here to go to this particular waffle house, I highly recommend it for anyone in the area or anyone passing by. The service at this Waffle House was excellent. I was in town for my graduation from Appalachian this weekend and we decided to eat dinner here. My family and I were greeted as soon as we came in. We were seated immediately and offered drinks. I took my daughter to the restroom to wash her hands and to check out the cleanliness of the bathroom and it was clean. The food was brought out promptly and it tasted great. Our waitress was prompt and sweet. The cook even spoke to us. I will definitely visit here again the next time I'm in Boone and I highly suggest it to others. read more

Normally I love Waffle House, Its a great southern institution (Huddle House sucks!), and came in for a quick breakfast. Ordered a cheese steak omelette with grits. My wife ordered scrambled eggs with dark toast (not burnt). Watching the "cook" start to butter extremely burnt toast, I told her to not even put it on the plate, she wants dark, not burnt. Mumbles came from the "cook". My omelette comes to the table and looked extremely small, I cut in to it and something is missing... Oh, the steak of the cheese steak. The server, Cathy, argues that I ordered a cheese omlette... I'm 245 pounds with a bears, do I look like a cheese omlette kind of guy. I send it back and see Cathy whispering to the "cook" causing me to not trust what was going in to my food. I then tell the cook to cancel my order. Will skip this Waffle House during my next VA visit... even my coffee was room temperature... that's just plain wrong! read more
