I happened to be in the area and wanted to try this donut shop. What really drew me in was rye pink color on the building. Since I'm not the biggest fan of donuts with any type of filling I purchased a cinnamon and sugar donut. It was just okay. Nothing I'd come back for but I wanted to give this location a shout to for the amazing customer service of Zack. My friend and I came through the drive in and he smiled, friendly, and told us to have a goodnight. The fact that it was after six in the evening it was good to know that he was in a pleasant mood. Overall I'd say to try it but I'm not sure what to suggest.
I went to this shop around 7 PM wanting a sweet treat after dinner. However, I was disappointed. I used to frequent Voodoo donuts back in college when I lived in Austin, and no matter the time of day (even 2 am), the donuts always tasted fresh and delicious. At that time, Voodoo donuts was not in a lot of cities, so I wonder if that has something to do with the quality. The Homer donut was good but nothing special as it is pretty hard to get strawberry glaze with sprinkles wrong. The texture of the dough was not as fluffy as a donut should be, but it remained soft, which was nice. The DOB ended up tasting incredibly soggy and stale, and I ended up throwing most of it away. There also was not a solid layer of frosting on it as there should be. However, I do appreciate the breadth of vegan options that the store has. They did not have any plastic utensils which would have been helpful for sharing since the donuts are so large. Service was quick and easy, the place was empty so it was easy to sit down and enjoy. I don't believe I will be back any time soon.
So I looked for nearby places/bakeries with vegan options. I was surprised (but then again, not that surprised) that Voodoo was listed as having vegan options. They have a whole vegan donut menu. I won't lie, even looking at the menu had me incredibly intrigued. I finally landed on the vegan Portland Cream. The cashier was nice. I really enjoy the energy inside of this Voodoo location. There is no good reason for this vegan donut to have tasted as deeply delicious as it did. Rest assured vegan voodoo donuts will enter my regular rotation for day I indulge. That being said, for a donut place, Voodoo is quite expensive, but given their ability to accommodate various dietary needs as a delicious donut spot the price is worth it!
Those donuts definitely put a spell on you! My kids were in heaven with every donut they ate. We got a mixture of the homer, apple fritter, strawberry something, blueberry cake and a few others. The homer was the size of my kid's head. I wish I would have gotten the cashier's name but he was great and patient. I'm not a big donut person so I'm indecisive when it comes to them and he really did try to help me. Love the vibes and decor. Not a lot of seats but there's a drive thru so you can Just wear them in your car.
Yesterday was National Donut day and so I brought my coworkers a dozen donuts for our last day of work! Summer break has finally arrived and this was such perfect timing. $12 for a dozen with one additional for free!!! I live 3 mins away and so this location is my location! Service was great by the morning staff and at first they thought I was another customer by the same name but different spelling. As they were loading donuts I noticed they were not mine, they apologized and mentioned it was such a coincidence. Welp, the other customer, Sara arrived and we had a laugh and greeted each other. Thank you for helping start my day with these delicious pink donuts they are so me and so cute to just look at. My coworkers were so happy as they are used to Shipleys and so when I bring them Voodoo they just LOVE me even more:) Have a great summer everyone!
First time here and could not wait to check this one off the list. The options on donuts can be overwhelming. You simply have to pick what you want and stick with your decision. I chose the D.O.B. Chocolate and Peanut Butter Donut. The only negatives here were the dining area and restrooms were in need of some attention. Service was fast and friendly. We will definitely be coming back. Kudos to the guy who served us. He looked through the donut choices and pulled out ones that were not up to serving standards. This was nice to see happen as it's always disappointing to get a stale donut.
Great atmosphere with the way everything is set up, all donuts on a revolving display. They also had a poster and menu with all available donuts. Had a hard time deciding which to try. Ordered the banana cream donut, it was ok, overly sweet with a strange after taste. Staff was friendly. If you're wanting to try something out of the ordinary there are plenty of choices here to try. Would return to try a different donut.
I haven't had Voodoo Doughnuts in awhile! Our realtor was super sweet and always does a Father's Day Voodoo Doughnut treat. I grabbed a great box, and the blueberry and cinnamon donuts were great! definitely love a good little treat. Parking can kinda be a mess, but they do have a drive thru, which is nice!
Zach was awesome! He was kind, patient and customer service was on point. Typically the place is lit up and doughnut cases are picture perfect but tonight the place was looking a little rough. Chandeliers were off and it almost appeared that they were closing. Nevertheless, I got what I came for tonight. I wanted to participate in the 12 days of voodoo! Today was half off of pink tote bags and yes I got one!! And of course doughnuts...glaze, a homer and blueberry cake. Happy Yelping!

Being from Louisville, people always posted about going to Voodoo on trips and how good it was. I was excited to see I was finally going to get to try it! They were open late, they had a ton of different donuts in a rotating display case to choose from. I like that the doughnuts had creative designs and flavors. All the ones I chose were fluffy and delicious. If you're looking for a great spin on the traditional doughnut- don't hesitate. They have so many options. They're iconic and well known in the foodie community for a reason. They also offer merchandise.
Omg - can you say exquisitely delicious?! These donuts are not your typical donut. They've got funky flavors and fun, funky names to go right with them! Chocolate Bavarian Cannolo and Dirt are my two favorites - with Dirt being #1. My mouth is watering right now just THINKING about how delicious it is! It's a plain donut topped with vanilla icing and Oreo cookie pieces. To. Die. For. They've got a drive-thru which is super great seeing as the first few times I've tried these donuts out has been during this oh-so-fun pandemic. The customer service is great and the donuts are very reasonably priced. TOO reasonably priced, if you ask me, because I can afford to buy waaay too many at one time.

It has been our tradition to bring home some doughnuts to our parents every time we are out of town, Voodoo doughnuts were highly recommended to us and did not disappoint. We ordered the dirt flavored and maple bacon doughnuts for dine in. The Dirt flavored was basically cookies and cream plus oreos. IT WAS THE BOMB. Definitely did not disappoint. The Maple Bacon were also good. These doughnuts were huge so it is good for sharing. read more

The best classic style donuts around, idk how they make their yeast donuts sooo perfect. If you are a jelly donut fan then this place is a must try. It's sweet and sour without that weird chunky texture that dunkin donuts has. Guava colada is my new favorite but the iconic voodoo doll is just as good as it is weirdly adorable? Their chocolate frosting is rich and thiccy thicc and the rasberry jelly and choc frosting combo is pure heaven. Minus one star because service is sometimes a hot mess, though the workers are always very kind. The service won't keep me away though. read more
I'd never heard of them before, but when I was driving by I had to make a quick turn to try it out. I'm guessing they get pretty busy because of the corrals. I do wish their displays were a bit easier to scan through. I can imagine in a full shop that it's hard to see what's available without getting out of line. The options were really varied and exciting. I wanted to try a ton of different things, but picked one and asked the person checking me out to recommend something. They were very nice and I felt welcome. The buttermilk bar is great. While the one they recommended was good, it wasn't quite as good as the buttermilk. The LGBTQ+ banner in the hallway to the bathrooms made me that much happier and comfortable. If I'm ever in Houston again, I'll be back. read more

I'd made plans to visit Voodoo Doughnut when it first opened up but wanted to wait a bit because the line was always ridiculously long. And then the Pandemic happened and I kind of stopped going out and the next thing you know, it's been over a year and I still hadn't tried their donuts. That was until I decided to just go and finally try them out. I went with my gf and parked in their tiny little parking lot, which wasn't an issue because there wasn't many cars parked over there. As a matter of fact, we were the only customers at the store when we'd arrived. We looked around a little bit and decided to try six different donuts and placed our order. We paid and we waited a bit and took some pictures under the Swayze painting and neon Don't Mess With Texas sign. And when our order was ready, what do you know? The cashier asked us if we would like to get a free box of mystery donuts FOR FREE! HELLS TO THE YES! We sat down, and we pretty much took a bit of everything while it was still fresh. Okay, not everything but the six that we had originally picked out; and we loved every single one of them. One that we liked the most was the Mango Tango. The Guava Colada was super good as well. At the end of the day when we (mostly I) had finished trying all the donuts, they were all enjoyable. Obviously they'd be so much tastier when fresh and not when they'd been sitting in a box for a day or two (we didn't finish all the donuts in one day, obviously) but they were good donuts. If there were a closer location to me, I could see myself stopping by every now and then to get one or two donuts for snacks. Unfortunately there's not a closer location to me so for now I'd just have to come here when I'm really craving some voodoo doughnuts. read more

Voodoo Doughnut has a variety of unique quality doughnuts. My first time years ago visiting was in Austin Tx. I was so excited once Houston got one. They now have several locations. The line can be long but moves fast. The place is on the smaller side but good enough to sit and enjoy your doughnuts. The display of doughnuts on the carousel is unmatched. read more

Let's me just say that we spent way too much money in here!!! Haha. After a night of fun , Voodoo Doughnut was the final stop before heading in for the evening. I honestly believe we wanted one of everything on the menu! Practicing some self control, we ended up with a dozen of doughnuts , one of two extra random doughnuts and 2 Voodoo souvenir coffee mugs. We spent a whopping $75!! It's never really about the money as much as it is about the product paired with the experience. The doughnuts were well made and super fresh! There were so many unique varieties to pick from as well as traditional flavors. Something for all palates. Presentation of the product was clever. There is a rotating display where the doughnuts can be viewed under bright lights! We all know bright lights make EVERYTHING appear bigger and better! The doughnuts not only looked good on display but they also hit the mark in taste as well!! The inside has seating available. VD mech to purchase and some chandeliers hanging beautifully from the ceiling! This place is full of character. Prior to my trip to Houston, Voodoo doughnuts weren't on my list of places to try but boy, am I glad we came here to cap off a fun , rainy night in H town! read more

I've had quite the frustrating experience with Voodoo to say the least. I received a gift card from Voodoo after my bad experience, and after 2 years, I found that there was still a balance on the card. I haven't been back since - so I wasn't sure if the card had an expiration. Decided to treat my coworkers to Voodoo. Ordered online the day before. Paid the remaining balance on my cc + tip. Found on my bank statement that I was charged the full amount. Called multiple times, left voicemails, no response. Went in before work to pickup and tried to resolve my problem. Manager was helpful and refunded the gift card amount. Got to work to find out I was shorted 6 donuts. I ordered 6 orders of the 713 Box. Each order comes with 6 = 3 dozens. I received 30 donuts total (10 in each box). I was missing a churro and blueberry in each box. Again, I tried calling several times to let them know about the missing donuts. All went straight to vm. It's been a few years since I returned so this place has been open for just about the same period of time. In between, I did get some a few times more. The last time was on a Thursday at around 1 pm. They get customers but there was no line when we were there. No one really greeted us when we walked in. There was someone in the back frosting donuts. There is a winding queue up to the cash registers so we walked through up there to see the menu better. After a minute, someone came up to take our order, but we weren't ready yet (we were debating on a dozen versus a few donuts because it's only 2 people each on both our ends). I ended up not doing the dozen. I was interested in their limited flavors and those aren't included in their dozen sets. Their dozen sets are concrete and include specific flavors that are predetermined. They are a great deal compared to getting them individually, though. I wish you could mix and match donuts to make your own dozen. My sister, who I was with, is vegan and I wanted a few non-vegan flavors. I felt like the lady was a bit stand-off-ish. She didn't really make suggestions or give tips. Just stood there looking like she wanted to get on with it. What I did get: Viscous Hibiscus (finally - they were out the last time I went), Bee's Knees (special flavor), caramel macchiato (special), the Dirt, apple fritter (this was HUGE!), and Sprinkle Cake. It was packed like normal - that is things were stacked. My 6 donuts totaled to $20! A dozen Voodoo Donut set is $25! That's what I meant that it was a pretty decent deal to get the set. But thank goodness we decided to eat some there because I discovered the Sprinkle Cake was missing! I double checked the box just in case it was buried (it wasn't) and my receipt where I clearly paid for it so I went back up with my box and pointed it out. I was standing for a while as the cashier had joined the lady in the back, but they eventually spotted me. She took off her gloves and I told her the issue. She got me one with a moment of hesitation - it was SMALL compared to the others - while saying how she was sure she didn't ring me up for one but she'll go ahead and give me one anyway. What?? Do people do that?? The Sprinkle Cake is only $1 so I overlooked the size - and because it was meant for my daughter and she doesn't need a donut the size of her face. Anyway, I informed her I did pay for one as I double checked my receipt and she responded with, "oh." No apologies for thinking I tried to get a freebie out of her. She returned to the back after that. I like Voodoo donuts for the fun flavors and their vegan options. It is the only donut place I go to with my sister. I know staff attitude can change by the person and the mood - there are such things as bad days. But this last experience wasn't great... and it wasn't even crowded! They only sounded happy when other coworkers came in! Maybe it was close to shift change? Either way, my husband already thought they were merely okay and overpriced. Now, I'm starting to think similarly. The donuts here tend to be fun but the texture is like normal donuts. Not particularly light or airy. I do still like them but this last visit? I'm glad this wasn't the experience I got on my first visit! I won't write them off as I'm sure I'll go again, but I hope this is a one off. read more

Considering the pandemic, this location is still fairly new and gets allllll the hype. The lines are long even during the late night hours. My friend and I took a trek from kemah to Washington to explore the hipster joint. We spend nearly $40 on a dozen of the classic and then bought 5 specialty donuts. I admired how the classic assortment had something for everyone. My 5 year old was definitely overwhelmed with options! Of course he went for the "Marshall Mathers." They're a little on the pricey side for doughnuts but are definitely tastier than the local Shipleys. They have a fun spinning display of the flavors they offer with unique names. Definitely respect the "Homer" as this classic seemed to be my favorite. I just had to order the "cock and balls/ AKA Dick-in-a-box" for shits and giggles but I can't say they tasted any better than the norm. read more
We enjoyed a doughnut apiece after a stellar BBQ meal at Truth. Our daughter-in-law loved her maple doughnut. My son and I destroyed a couple old dirty bastards....chocolate frosting, chocolate cream-filled cookies and peanut butter, don't know where I found the room but I did. Very friendly staff. I have to admit I am a huge fan of Shipleys so I was kind of skeptical. Let me tell you voodoo most definitely delivered and is amazing! Food: I got the Portland creme and glazed and let me tell you, they were amazing! The glaze is huge! Yuge! Very large and good. I was am fan of the glaze here. The Portland creme was very good too. They were very fresh and tasty. I look forward to coming back and trying out more things on their menu. The drive thru was really fast. They were very nice and friendly as well. The price was fair too. I will most definitely come back here when I am in the area. I am a fan. Glad they branched our to Houston. I feel like this will be a staple in Houston for a long time! Craving a doughnut yesterday, so we went to Voodoo. Drive through line was long, but sure wasn't worth the wait. My first experience (I didn't actually go, my sister went for me)...I remember their doughnuts tasting and looking fresher than the ones we got yesterday. IDK if we went at a busy time, or what?...but super disappointed with the presentation of the doughnuts. Also, way too sweet! I'm guessing the one I had last time wasn't nearly as sweet, but we got a variety. - Oh Captain, My Captain - Old Dirty Bastard - Chocolate Bavarian Cannolo - The Homer - Maple Bacon Bar* - Portland Cream - Voodoo Doll - Blueberry Cake Toppings from the Cap'n Crunch one were all soggy, and the pretzel stick on the Voodoo Doll was soggy too. If you love decadent, overly iced, and gourmet filled topping doughnuts, Voodoo is great. Also, when you pay $20 for 8 doughnuts, you expect the freshest doughnuts out there! No SOGGY cereal topped doughnuts, and it'd be nice if they come up with a better packaging method because it get's real messy real fast. Icing and gooey filling everywhere, forget about opening and re-opening the box multiple times because the icing on the doughnuts gets everywhere. The Voodoo experience potentially has the affect to give off the excitement and make you purchase more than your belly can handle because of all the interesting flavors and designs in their doughnuts, but don't be fooled!...it's the "your eyes are bigger than your stomach/tummy..." experience really! Their doughnuts are extremely decadent, sweet, and very filling. Which means, unless you're planning to share with a large crowd or having a doughnut party, proceed with caution: only order one or two. I made the mistake of ordering eight on one trip. :( read more

Voodoo Doughnut presentation is great, but they are honestly not that great. I've had much better donuts from local shops that are not as pricey. I was pretty disappointed with how dry the doughnuts were that had a filling like the Cock and Ball and the Voodoo. Probably never going back to this place again. read more

And the winner for my first review of 2020 is... Voodoo Donuts! I've been wanting to try Voodoo since they premiered on Man vs Food. The lights and cameras made them look so freaking amazing. Adams expression when he bit into "those donuts" made me want to inhale a few of them myself like a diver coming up for air. So after years of wondering and watching repeats of them on Man vs Food, they finally opened up one in Houston. So my first review of 2020 goes to their first Houston location which may be my first and perhaps last visit. Okay I have to agree that they have unique frills and thrills on donut presentation but when trying out a spot for the 1st time I have to start with your basic representation of the classic donut. So I ordered a regular glazed donut and a chocolate covered. Let me remind you that the order I placed was at 5:00 AM on a weekday morning. That's important to note. If you cannot get a fresh hot donut by default at 5:00 AM on a Houston morning, you should not be in the donut making business. Sorry there is no excuse for a cold donut that freaking early. The 2 donuts I received where colder than a pack of Hostess powdered donuts from an airport vending machine. In Minneapolis. During winter. With a layover. Their regular donuts are not your averaged sized donuts which could have been a good thing, if... they were good and fluffy. Instead these had the consistency of a cold King cake or a cinnamon roll that was dried out. They are huge, thick, cold and dry. I can see how someone could choke on one if eaten to fast. This explains the history of why they stopped the challenge from their Man vs Food year. The donuts are also very very sweet for my preference. A dry dough topped with the sweetest glaze I've ever had. I do love the concept of Voodoo Donuts but I do not believe "those donuts" are made with any passion whatsoever. It appears to be just... Whenever I have a late night sweets craving and I'm in the area, I stop by Voodoo. Many options to choose from. So whatever you're craving, they have something for you! I went inside instead of the drive thru and the employees were nice and friendly. She offered her favorite as one to try. In my opinion, going inside is better than the drive thru read more

Do they always stack in the box? How do they charge for a custom dozen - just charge the amount per donut? Wanted some insight before going.
When we went the packaged them beautifully, and they were not stacked on top of each other. It's just a charge per donut.
Is the ‘bucket of donuts’ deal available at this location?
They almost never have day old donuts here. The only time I have seen day old here is because they were not quite right, and there was only 5. Did not see any mention of it…
How do we order a specialty donut when there's no option online or call in order?!?
Call them and they can hold your order for you. Specify vegan if you want. No problem.
Can we order through the phone and just go pick up and pay?
Currently, no but this could change in the future!
Do you guys ever run out of donuts?
I've only been once and at 10 am on a Monday morning, they ran out of 4 types my party had wanted. So, yes. They do run out of certain flavors.
