Such good customer service before we even placed an order. The cashier explained pretty much every flavor and seemed happy to help the customers. There are so many vegan options to choose from. We wound up going with non-vegan flavors, and got Captain Crunch, blueberry cake, and plain glazed. All were extremely good, and honestly I was really impressed. They are of course, extremely sweet, but all tasted fresh and worth the cost. The options alone were really awesome. They have them out in a revolving case so that you can watch the different flavors turn and pick which catches your eye. The parking for the shop is a little bit tricky if the street parking is full. In fact, I think we parked illegally in some small back lot and made it a quick stop. Be prepared if you go on a busy day to allot some time for finding parking. read more

I kick myself for not taking pictures of the lack of filing. The Voodoo Doll doughnut (my favorite at the Denver location that does a much better job) only had filling from its 'feet' to its 'knees.' The pastry was dry and lacked flavor. The Portland Cream had a small squirt of filing in one section with the same dry and flavorless pastry. I am greatly disappointed in this location. read more

Everyone has strong opinions on Voodoo donuts. I'm on team -- it's good, but a little over hyped for what it is. They have a lot of fun and funky flavors which can make coming here an experience. It's a nice place to bring out of town visitors. Expect a serious sugar high though - even as someone with a huge sweet tooth, I think it should be toned down a bit to really hit the spot. Prices are also a little high - I think they vary based on if it's a speciality or not, the voodoo doll - their signature donut was just over $4 with tax. The donut is fun and has chocolate frosting and a jelly filling. One complaint I have about this one is the jelly is inconsistently filled more often than not - one side is gushing out and another side didn't get any jelly at all. Regardless, it's a fun spot to check out and I'm glad they found their way to Denver. read more

If you have a sweet tooth, this will be your jam. I usually like things sweet, but these donuts were like a sugar bomb to me. Normally I can down two donuts no problem at other places, but even eating one was tough. They were indeed (mostly) flavorful and more modern flavors (e.g. cookies and cream, "Homer", m&ms topping, grape) for the toppings. They had a selection of classics as well. We got the Voodoo dozen as we have a place back home with these kind of flavors and wanted that comparison. The only original type donut in the box was the best option. Sadly. I'm not a Bavarian cream kind of person, but my husband who is wouldn't classify theirs as that, more of a plain pudding inside. For being overly sweet on the outside, any donuts that had filling were severely lacking in said filling. There's no white cream filling options either, only jelly or "Bavarian" cream. If I had one closer to me, I'd give another try with the classic dozen, but based on the struggles (and price point) we had on the fancy donuts, we probably won't. The staff was not very friendly and was quite irritated in fact that I let my kid pick out her donut and then got the dozen with that style. Let me give you the run down on the four I tried. Grape Ape- As advertised. This has a bit of an artifical grape candy flavor over a pillowy brioche base. Leans a bit to the cough syrup side. Oh Captain, My Captain- Brioche doughnut with vanilla frosting COVERED in Captain Crunch cereal. It's a win for sugary cereal afficiandos. Voodoo Doughnuts is great. I recommend The Homer, which is that iconic pink Simpson's doughnut. They start with a fluffy yeast doughnut, topped it with bubble gum-pink frosting and sprinkles. First let me start by saying that anyone who knows me, knows that I don't really eat donuts...at ALL. I went to Voodoo Doughnut during my recent trip to Denver because my friend absolutely wanted to get some donuts. So I really went for moral support. The line was outside which made me think :"dang we will be here for a while and okay this place must be super popular". We stood in line probably 25 minutes which was not bad given the fact that the line was outside. I ended up ordering the bacon bar and another special of the day donut with french fries. Honestly I am not a donut person but the fact these 2 were savory made the difference. They both were very tasty and well balanced. The bacon bar was a bit on the sweeter side (duh donut) but the bacon made it super savory. The other donut (I can't remember what it was called) had caramel and chocolate sauce over the fries which made it really good as well. The Ol' dirty bastard was combination of oreo cookies and peanut butter. In conclusion, I am still not a donut person but Voodoo has some very interesting flavors and twists on donuts. We finally tried Voo Doo donuts and it did not disappoint! Waited in line for a while. Mask recommended but not required, 6 ft markers inside. It's pretty small inside with donuts displayed on a spinning rounder. There were so many choices! On top of the fancier donuts they also had basic choices like Apple fritters, chocolate, etc. we ordered a blueberry, maple cream (2), chocolate cream, and maple bacon. All of the donuts were tasty! The maple was not overly sweet and my son enjoyed eating the leftover maple bacon the next day. If you have one near you, try it. Very tasty, we love the Bavarian cream filled ones. OMG probably the freshest donuts I've had in a while!!! I like to cut off pieces of each and try them all. (I'm a weird donut eater lol) And after my tastes I thought the grape was unique but I wouldn't want the whole donut. Don't get me wrong it was good just not for me. The white chocolate sprinkles had a weird savory flavor too it. Not sure if that was because it was by the horchata? Though the horchata didn't have that savory flavor so I don't know. THE CRAVING It had been ages since my partner and I had had any doughnuts. Seeing many Yelpers post enticing photos from donut shops all over the nation, I got a craving as we left Denver for a looong drive back to Dallas. NOSTALGIA I asked my partner to check Yelp for a donut shop close to our route. He mentioned Voodoo Doughnut and said it was a little out of the way. I got so excited having visited the original Voodoo doughnuts in Portland more than 10 years ago! PARKING We located the shop on Colfax and lost time to parking. I verified with a Voodoo employee that there is no designated parking for this shop- even for its employees! Most nearby parking was metered, permit only, or taken on the Sunday afternoon we visited. FIRST IMPRESSION The exterior of the shop is pink and includes all the fun Voodoo designs/themes with images, names, and descriptions of the donuts for sale. Unfortunately, the same description is not available inside - making donut selection more mysterious. CUSTOMER SERVICE It took a while for a cashier to acknowledge and assist me despite there being ample staff and only one customer checking out in front of me. I didn't know if there was some other way I was supposed to make it known that I was prepared to order - apart from standing in line on one of the floor stickers (for social distancing). It was so strange to see so many staff and no one acknowledging me - the only in-store customer who wasn't being served. ORDERING The cashier was helpful. I felt bad for peppering her with questions about the donuts - not being a regular customer, wanting to nail my order, and not knowing what was inside - whether donuts were filled or not - which ones would have peanuts/peanut butter, and there being sooo many options to chose from. Donut/ingredient descriptions would have saved me there. With some Q&A, I ordered (7) donuts which cost about $19. FAVORITE DONUTS Favorites for me were the maple cream (Bavarian cream filling) and maple bacon. The maple was much richer and maple-y than most and the saltiness of the bacon and cool creaminess of the Bavarian cream were nice compliments to each donut. I was also impressed by how soft and light the blueberry cake donut was! For the parking situation, wait for counter assistance (even with little crowd), and lack of clear descriptions of donuts, I would likely chose another donut shop my next visit but this was definitely a nostalgic stop and the donuts were tasty. read more
