Waiting another 10-15 minutes to pick up a prescription after this crappy Vons store called to say it was ready gives me time to post a review. This Vons is terrible! A few months ago I was waiting at the meat counter with other customers, there was no one at the counter, it was about 6pm on a weeknight. There are never any floor staff so I started calling the phone number to try to get them to send someone. I called about 10 times and tried various departments. You can actually hear the phone ring as you are dialing. I finally gave up and mentioned it to the checkout kid, whose response was "this store sucks, they never have enough people." Fast forward to today at 5:23 PM and there's no 2% milk (see photo). The stock outages are ridiculous. Went to buy bacon and noticed they screwed up the comparative pricing by switching between ounces and pounds. Get your shit together, this Vons is an embarrassment. read more

I'm a little confused about why this grocery store has such a low rating. It's always super neat and well... a grocery store, I'm not sure by what bar people are holding this place to. The deli department is great, the staff is nice and I have used the bakery twice and both times it's been wonderful. My only complaint is that I cannot shop here with my kids because they only have three (that's right THREE) double carts so it is impossible to go shopping with two toddlers here. read more

If you're looking for the charm of a bus depot but with groceries, then this is the place for you. When Haggen's, an out of state chain took over most of the grocery stores in the area and quickly went bankrupt, this Vons in particular began gouging everyone. Simi was reduced to a handful of stores and they took advantage. I don't know when the last time corporate paid this site a visit but it's long overdue. From the non-existent cart retrieval, expired anchovies, employees smoking in the front and the Oliver Twist feeling one gets at the deli and meat counters this store remarkably misses all the points. This review is solely based on the deli/sandwich counter. Every single time I come here it's at least 20 minutes to order a sandwich. The workers have absolutely no sense of urgency and work as slow as molasses when making anything. They're all a lot older maybe this is the reason but do not come here if you are in a hurry. I wish they would hire a better trained staff for this area. It's the worst. And they're never ever friendly. They scowl at you when you come up to the counter and that's only when they acknowledge you have been standing there for minutes already. Horrible service. read more

I'm bumping my review up to 4 stars too because they've got the best organic produce department and a fresh selection of seafood. I also found my shampoo and conditioner here cheaper than at Target, which is unheard of. I also like the wood burning oven in the bakery section and their awesome artisan bread's that are baked daily. And, they always seem to have great beer specials. One area they could still improve - can you please get a bell for the seafood department? The pharmacy at this Vons really needs to do better. I purposely wait for a day or so for them to get my prescription ready, I get a call saying it's ready and I come in and they can never find it. There seems to be enough employees but they don't seem to be organized. Whoever is the manager here needs to fix this pharmacy, it cannot compete with other pharmacies in the Updated: I have switched to CVS since then. This place used to fabulous, now it is not so good. I literally have shopped at this Vons for most of my life and am sad to see how it is now. I was doing my normal shopping and was looking for a specific item for a recipe. Having had to ask about hard-to-find items before, I knew that they could just look it up in the front-end computer to see if they carry whatever you need. I asked the checker to do so, and she asked what I was looking for. She said that they did not have it. I asked her if she could ask the manager, so she called him over ("R") and he said that they do not have it. I asked if he could look it up and he said he did not need to because they didn't have it. Okay, whatever, obviously they didn't have it. I went to the produce market, where they have some ethnic foods, and sure enough they had it and knew what I was talking about. On my next trip to Vons I looked to see if they had it, now that I knew what it was, and sure enough THEY HAD A BUNCH!!!! Whatever, I don't go there anymore. I ordered groceries to be delivered at 5:30 pm and it would be delivered between 7:00 and 8:00 pm. By 8:30 I realized it wasn't coming. I called the store. They do not deliver. I've moved a lot in the last few years, and I've never seen a grocery store that's harder to navigate. The "dairy" section is a shelf hidden in the beer & wine area. When I needed chili, it took three staff members wandering the store to find it for me. Turkey bacon isn't with the bacon. There are two locations for granola. The organic granola is over with the hot cereals, the regular granola is at the opposite end of the isle next to the cold cereals. I've been here a dozen times, always thinking that I've finally learned where everything is, but the weirdness just keeps on coming. Last night I got stuck in line behind someone who needed a price check on pudding. So random but the sushi here alone deserves the 5 stars. I live close to this Vons and from time to time pop in for quick pick ups. I always pass the man making the sushi and he seems so kind pleasantly smiling and I always thought one of these days I'll try his sushi creations. I'm glad I did! I requested a rainbow row and he told me he was busy but could make it in a few minutes which was fine as I still needed to do a bit of shopping. My rolls were done quickly I took them home and all 4 rolls my boyfriend and I shared were so delicious and fresh. So next time you pass that sushi do not hesitate to try it! It's better than some I've had in actual sushi bars. The rest of this Vons always meets my expectations. I love their carts with the perfect cup holder for your Starbucks cup. Its Vons. Like every Vons, this place is stocked isle after isle with products that are useful and purposeful. Some of the stuff they call food, I question. But they do a good job of training their staff to be friendly and courteous to their customers. If you ask where something is at Vons, they WALK you to it. In the big chain stores that sell the same things, service matters. I only wish Vons would give me more options; as a whole-foodist, I'm enjoying the continued growth of organics, but need this to be larger than it is at Vons. We call this place Hooker Von's. It seems lately the clientele from the Motel Six across the street are "shopping" for love here. This place has gone down hill in the last 5 yrs. This review is for the Von's off erringer. I have had two recent issues with meat I purchased at this location. The first issue was for organic chicken breast I purchased. It looked ok and showed no signs of being spoiled when in the package. However, once I opened the chicken package the smell was overwhelmingly bad. I immediately tossed the chicken out. The next issue was with purchasing expired horned pork tenderloin. When I say expired I mean. I bought it the 15th of March but the package indicated it expired the 3rd of March. I normally am good about checking dates but was in a hurry. They need to follow up on their FIFO process or someone who doesn't notice or know better is going to get very sick. read more

Some years ago I brought in a Haagen Dazs buy 1 get 1coupon (not knowing any better) that I got in the email. The cashier said it was a fake coupon, then the bagger girl said to the cashier "should I call the security?" Over this coupon hoax? Give me a break! Just recently I bought some pastry bread from the pastry section. The cashier thought it was bagel (as the bagels cost more than the pastries), she even open the bag to check it out.
