Vons/Macys gift card final review. Part 3 After shopping at Vons for over 35 years were done. As for Macys, were done with them too. Vons in both Simi Valley and Moorpark have been steadily declining most notably in the last five years. Both their selection and service has become very sparse. I for one do not like the obvious corporate decision to herd shoppers to the "self checkout" line. Now they are down to one live person available for checkout, it's just pathetic. The straw that broke the camels back was poor service I received when I purchased a Macys gift card at the Vons in Simi Valley on Cochran Street. They informed me that the gift card was tampered with and the $200 dollars on it was stolen. They contacted Macys gift card department "GC" and had me wait on phone and deal with Macys poor service. Sorry Vons, I will be shopping at Gelsons going forward, although they are more expensive, at least I will get better service and nicer cleaner environment to shop at. Now, as for Macys, just like most of big brand stores these days, customer service is non existent. My simple claim for $200 dollars could have been resolved within a week. But after exchanging emails with someone named Sean, at Macys GC department, and complying with what they asked for, (photos of the card in question and the receipt given at point of purchase) he responded twice that the receipt in the photo did not match with the card sold. After i informed him that store managers confirmed that was the receipt and card that was paid for, and he could contact them (store number included) to verify that, he just replied that the receipt was not a match. Adding a quick note about finding gluten-free pre-made cake at this Von's. Our neighbor, who's a dear friend, has to have gluten free baked goods. It was her birthday this week and while I'm stuck at home recuperating from a medical thing, I had helped out Dear Hubby by doing research online for who would have gluten free cake near us. Vons and Ralphs came up with options. Ralphs is not as convenient, and I like this Vons store, so I suggested he go there. Once he did, he had trouble finding anyone who works in the store who knew where said cakes would be. Even at the bakery counter they sent him off in a vague direction. He wasn't finding the gluten free baked goods at all until just before leaving the store and heading elsewhere, he saw a supervisor. Once he explained what he was looking for and how he'd been to different locations in the store without success, the supervisor walked him to the correct area. The supervisor also made a point to tell the bakery clerk where the right spot was, too. I'm sure it's frustrating for management at stores to have employees who either haven't been trained properly or who don't retain information that would make for a better customer experience. At that point in DH's description of his visit, I would have given three stars. However, the strawberry cream layer cake looked very yummy once he bought it and brought it home. And, best of all, our friend loved it! That was a special treat for her as she wouldn't normally go out any buy such a cake for herself. That, along with a homemade card, made her feel special. For that, Vons will get a bump to four stars. Still, it would be helpful to have staff members be familiar with special request kind of foods - like plant-based cheeses, gluten-free baked goods, etc. Just saying. read more

I was nervous at first, as the Vons by my home is not great. So, with hesitation I called this one to place an order for my daughter's baby shower. I had an absolutely excellent experience with the Vons Deli. Last week I called to place an order and spoke with Alandro. He was very thoughtful, courteous and informative. Although he was clocking out in 10 minutes, he did not rush me off the phone, he answered all my questions and made great suggestions. I followed up the next day and spoke with Valerie, who was equally as helpful and also took the time to answer all my questions and even came up with a fantastic solution to accomodate my daughter's allergy with 4 GF sliders as part of one of my platters. Grocery stores frequently take advantage of consumers through in store promotions similarity. Today I was purchasing Barilla pasta that has a 4 for sale plus a $1 off digital coupon. On the face, one would expect the '4 promo mix and match', but not the case here. You must buy sets of 4 at a time. The biggest miss representation is the $1 off digital coupon that ONLY applies to the set of 4 box's. Yes it's only $.25 off. I asked the self check-out service girl Sandra G how this promotion is very different and the $1 off is non specific on the tag. She states she doesn't have time to argue with me. I said having a little empathy would go a long way. Her response was "THEY DONT PAY ENOUGH TO HAVE EMPATHY".. WTH! Bad attitude needs to go .. there's many nice ppl wanting work to replace Sandra! I am writing this on YELP as I wait for the store manager to pick up my call. I told the customer service I have a consumer negative experience and it has now been 28 minutes on hold. Service people need to be retrained to learn it's the customer that is paying your check. What a joke !! read more

My wife and I stopped by this Vons today after grabbing lunch at a Mexican restaurant across the street. My wife needed some stuff to make her dish on Monday so it was convenient for us to come here. Finding parking was easily and the moment you walk inside the store, you'll see a starbucks. The produce area is right near when you enter and the store is pretty spacious inside. I walked to the meat and seafood area and they have some nice selections. The prices are the same with every other Vons store but the taxes are just cheaper in Simi Valley. We opted for paying at the cashier instead of the self checkout because there wasn't a lot of people in line. The lady working the cashier was very friendly and nice so we plan on coming back if we're near here. read more

I've been a long time shopper of Von's and we specifically drive across town because the store on Erringer and Cochran have such nice service people. We know many by their first names. My question is specifically directed at the Meat Department: Is it normal for the customer to trim so much fat off a tri-tip roast? As I was preparing it, there is always some fat to trim but this seems excessive. I will very much change my rating if this is normal; it really seems as if it was taken straight out of the box, put on shrink wrap, and priced. I'm not sure what exactly the butcher did here? Of course, the fat cap was hidden at the bottom of the package, unseen. Again, if this is a normal amount of fat for the customer to trim off, I will gladly repost as my mistake, alter or remove the feedback. Deli sandwich bread was hard as a rock. This past Monday I was at Logix so I decided to stop by the deli department to grab a fresh made sandwich for my husband and I. I normally do not shop at Von's because the vegetables seem to always be old when I shop there. First, there was no fresh deli roll so the young man that made our sandwich's said he had to go to the bread section to get some. He then came back and said he had to go get some lettuce because there was none left. It was only around 11 am and no fresh bread and no lettuce was put out. When I came back to get our sandwich's mine was about 2 inches longer than my husbands. I asked the young man why my husbands sandwich was so much smaller than mine. His excuse was that mine was cut from a whole loaf. Not only was my husbands half sandwich super small, when we bit into our sandwich's, they were hard as a rock. We have gone 3 time in the last few weeks and ordered 166 pieces of fried chicken (delicious) for our Varsity football team. Every time we order we are helped by someone different. Every single person that we have worked with has been so friendly and makes the process so easy. We come in and order the day before and we always get it at exactly the time we request it. We don't have to wait forever to pick it up. Today we talked to the Manager I think his name was Archie. He was so helpful and let us know to get a deal with the booster tax id #. We will always use them for our away dinners as they have been the easiest place to get such a big order, it is always ready and super friendly. Thank you Vons deli!! read more

Walked into the grocery store on my way home from a long day of shopping and was persuaded by my kids to stop at starbucks. We were in line for a little bit and Larry the manager walked up to my kids and I. Provided us with a warm welcome and asked if my kids were swimmers. they said yes, he walked away and suddenly walked back with a swimming floaty (a really nice one) and gave it to my kids as a gift. I know it sounds silly but it was the best experience I've ever had in a grocery store. The deli clerk or manager, I'm not sure which she was, was very nice. I went early in the morning and she had not yet set out her things for making sandwiches. Yet, she offered to heat up my burrito for me. She was super nice and friendly. I would absolutely recommend her for her kind and considerate service. I am terrible with names, but I think it was Eilene or Irene? She is a total sweetheart. The new Starbucks and floral departments also look great. This is my spot. I'm a creature of habit when it comes to food. I have zero issues sticking to the same routine on the weekends I'm actually home which is pretty rare. Since I'm rarely home, I usually need things stored that will last a while. I typically eat out when I'm out of town so I'm next level lazy when I'm home. With that said, I stock up double on food items I need. Vons always has specials on items you get 2 of. Things like sausage which you can freeze since they have a long shelf life. Or juice. Or pizza. Can't hate on that. Works out well for me and my laziness. Other necessities are priced lower here than Amazon which is where I get the rest of my needs. Sometimes they'll have special. Today it was $5 for a whole roasted chicken and a 2 liter coke. Of course they were tapped out when I got there. The workers here are always cheery and nice. Von's for the most part are kinda pricey.You can get better saving at other big chain markets.Not going to post their names here because the review is on Vons.However I do like the Starbucks that's located inside this location.Never really busy. They also have a Deli section,with a few employees who are always their to help you.A self serve of different soups and a wide selection of olives,cheese and crackers. Plenty of parking for this location,never an issue with that.For the most part this store really doesn't seem to be real busy at times,always a good choice to get in and out. Another key factor is they also have a large selection fresh flowers as you enter the market,along with cards. I only go to this store when I absolutely have to (not too often) mostly because the people that work here aren't real welcoming, the lines are always really long, and I live closer to the other Vons ( and the people who work there are much nicer. I have zero experience in writing reviews, but I decided to write this one because of my recent visit there on Thanksgiving morning. For the first time EVER my experience was positive and wanted to make sure that my gratitude was expressed - This popped up on my screen and I thought it was a "sign" to say "thank you". So.. Thanksgiving day @ almost noon and I had 10 people showing up In a few hours and found myself in a "no Turkey" dilemma ... which could've been really embarrassing. RAUL in the meat Dept ( and the other guy .. that I didn't ask his name ( sorry friend ) was so nice, and was more than happy to help me----& went above and beyond to make sure I left w/ everything I needed to solve my Thanksgiving debacle - just wanted to make it a point to acknowledge good people who are good employees - doing good things. I've been shopping here for a few years now as it's less than a mile from my house, so location is awesome. However, I've never had an issue with the quality of produce from a store as often as I have here. I use the drive up service because it saves a ton of time and feels safer due to Covid concerns. In the past 2 years, I've found the service very inconsistent; items will be substituted sometimes, and sometimes the substitution isn't a relevant item and often times items that show as available in the app are out of stock. My biggest issue with the service (as well as this store in general, because I had this issue when shopping in person as well), is the number of expired items available on shelves, primarily items of concern such as meat and dairy (some veggies and fruit we've received have also been expired or in very poor condition). In the past 2 weeks alone, I received expired chicken in 2 separate orders and I find it alarming that these are even available on the shelf (one was expired by 10 days, the other by 2). There are many other times I've received expired meat and dairy in my orders that require I either get the item refunded and figure out new food plans or go back into the store to exchange the item in person which defeats the purpose of using the service. Since March alone, I've had several orders that contained expired items. I'd like to keep using the service as I don't have this issue with other stores and it is extremely convenient when there are no issues (a rare instance), but it doesn't seem to change despite the numerous electronic and in person feedback we've submitted, hence the low review. My overall summary; if you shop here, be sure to check your expiration dates! read more

I question the cleanliness of the deli side. The young man who helped me was very sweet, but his customer service skills could improve, he burped as he took my order (gross). On top of that I see the men behind, scratching their hair or or wiping their forehead without washing hands, they sweat from their forehead and I wonder if a small drip of sweat fell on my food. Anyways, I shouldn't be harsh, times are indeed very tough and seems like everyone is struggling, short staffed and burned out, but is it too much to ask someone to hold their burp in when they're helping a customer or maybe excuse themselves? Also, wash your hands after touching your face, readjusting your mask or anything. Whenever I'm in Simi Valley, I like stopping by this VONS. Every time I have come, the place is clean, well organized and well stocked. At first the aisles are a little confusing because there are two rolls of aisles, if that makes sense. But after a few visits, you'll understand the layout. I've come on weekends and it has not been fully packed, which I appreciate, because who wants to stand in line just to wait to check out. Didn't get an email notifying me that order is canceled. No communications alerting me of the situation. Was told at pickup order was canceled. After coming from smart and final this Von's seems amazing. The aisles are wide and there are plenty of checkers. Selection is amazing because the store is so big. I enjoy coming here to shop and don't mind paying more to get the selection options and great service. I'm disappointed that they were out French onion dip. But it's not going to keep me from coming back because it's such an enjoyable shopping experience. That's the reason why Vons can stay in business. And the prices are a little higher.
