Also a great selection of beers, from microbrews to all the European specialty brews. What makes this place tops are its excellent customer service. Very cool Vons to shop at when one is by the beach hanging out. My friend and I needed to get some cords for our phones, but since they didn't have any, we ended up getting cheap flip flops for under $10 bucks as well as some groovy soap for showering after playing in the ocean. Lines aren't long either. Customer service was also great and we were directed to the right place where cords for our phones would be. read more

In general, this is a good store in spite of the fact it's so small. They recently remodeled and that helped a lot with the selection. The prices here tend to be on the very high side however. The service at the deli counter was mediocre at best. We got some chicken there that was completely dried out and like jerky though, and I thought I better warn folks about their deli counter. The poor fellow working there really didn't seem to know what he was doing or anything about a deli in general. Because it's pricey, we only go in occasionally, and we can walk there which is good because even though they have their own parking, it is such a nightmare getting in and out of downtown Manhattan Beach. read more

This is such a horrific Vons, I don't even know where to start. It always feels dirty and disorganized. The inventory is shoddy and missing stuff. For example, they didn't even carry Mach 3 razors. The produce seems tired and in my opinion looks as old and beat down as material salvaged from some other market's dumpster. Much of the store and inventory appear straight from the early 1990s. It is so strange to have this level of crap right in the heart of downtown Manhattan Beach. This looks like a Vons you'd expect to find in downtown Cudahy. Vons needs to step up and investment some serious money to upgrade this place and make it a proper, upscale market. Or better yet, just sell it to Whole Foods or Ralph's, who no doubt would clean this operation up. 2 stars because the staff try hard and do their best and are friendly. This Vons has been here for many years. Yes, a small store, but as a local, this place is great. A good selection of all kinds of food, alcohol (huge wine section), etc. While it might be a "small store", consider the alternative - without crossing Sepulveda Blvd. No other "corner market" will get you this selection at these prices. Too, most of us at the beach grab just a few days worth of food at the store anyway. The security is there to keep the beach goers out, so people can shop. If looking for parking, check out the new parking lot under Metlox ... lower tier meters go up to 8 hours. This place rocks for us locals in MB! read more

A truly local supermarket, because the parking is horrendous and makes driving there a really annoying exercise. Well, what do you expect - it's Manhattan Beach. I like everyone who works here, especially Monica. She is my favorite. Genuinely a nice person, and has snapped me out of a bad mood before just by being friendly. Wine selection is awesome. Yes, the meat section is small and understocked even after the remodel, but this store has the BEST selection of manager's special meat anywhere. I stopped by here the other day when it was raining. I was headed to a friend's house and was trying to avoid traffic by staying off of Sepulveda which was backed up as far as the eye could see. The parking lot here was a little tight, I guess everyone else in Manhattan Beach got the email to stock up early because it was raining and would be a mad house all day. The inside was kind of like the outside parking lot, little space and lots of people instead of cars. The selection was good to go. I do dig doing all of my shopping close to the Beach but I am not sold on this place and not totally sure I would come back if I didn't absolutely have to. The staff seemed to have the total beach vibe, not as laid back as Trader Joe's but everyone seemed friendly with smiles on their faces. I am not normally in this area and I tend to think this is a supermarket for people to walk to not drive to. read more

I really want this store to be better, but its not. The location is perfect for the area but the store is greatly lacking for a major chain. The shelves are never stocked. The popular items run out and the space stays empty for the rest of the week. The packaged items in the produce section are expired. The workers do not seem to enjoy their jobs. I came to this Vons with an injured foot and had it wrapped up in gauze. I proceeded to use the handicapped scooter seeing my situation and the store supervisor rudely asked "do you need to use that". A customer laughed at me, I guess because they saw a 21 year old man trying to use a scooter but that shouldn't justify the negative attitude. I tried pleading my case but the supervisor ignored me. Upon checkout my girlfriend was paying and the cashier began flirting with her as I was putting the scooter away and he rang her up for a wrong item and forgot to void it even though my girlfriend told him to. He was hesitant to give us the receipt to hide his mistake but once we were in the car we realized he never voided the item. We went back in the store to get a refund and could not leave fast enough! They sometimes sell salad bar food that's still frozen. They sometimes do $5 Fridays which is great, but it's randomly done. Sakeena is a wonderful florist who was very helpful, warm and inviting. She puts together a very nice bouquet of flowers. This Vons usually has some pretty good quality flowers, so they are a great alternative to the more expensive flower stores in the area. The deals are ok, but the quality of service at this store trumps any positives that it may have. Every visit of mine has been treated by the staff with unnecessary rudeness, especially my most recent. I was here with friends to look for a quick bite to eat, as well as just look around the store. From the moment we walked through the doors, we noticed the staff keeping a suspiciously close eye on us for no apparent reason. As we walked around, we finally decided to go eat somewhere else with a better selection. As we left the store, also getting ready to return the items in our cart back into the aisles, the staff questioned us, almost as if they had suspected us of shoplifting. We denied of course, as we were not at the store with the intent of committing such a serious crime, and rather just looking for a snack. A male employee, who we assumed to be the manager, and one female employee working the checkout, began sharing rather rude and explicit remarks directly targeting us. They assumed that we were going to abandon our cart, and we began to return the items. Even while returning the goods, the staff continued to exchange explicit and frankly inappropriate comments with us. After returning the items, we left the store as the disgruntled employees rudely continued their remarks and watched us leave. Never have I ever seen such an unseemly situation at a grocery store. Neither I, nor anybody who I am close with, will ever be visiting this location again, and I advise that those reading this review do the same. Came here to pick some snacks before headed to the beach. Located right on Manhattan Blvd. Gorgeous area near the pier. In stir set up not so great. Looked a little messy and there was a huge spill in one of the aisles. Looked like someone's coffee. No employee in sight to clean the spill. Told the cashiers while checking out though. Also go myself a sandwich from the deli. If I knew it would take that long I would not have bothered to order a sandwich. Think they were quite short staffed back there. I've never been to a supermarket with such great service like this. The produce guy came up to me asked me if i needed help with anything.. and i asked him where the avocados were. He actually walked me over there and picked the ripe ones for me. NICE GUY! Let me start by saying- I really like Vons. I don't know, maybe its the bigger selection of Organics compare to other chain supermarket, or the people are just friendlier. Who knows, but my most favorite part of this Vons is their floral section. Its SO easy. I just popped in the other day to grab a bunch of Gerber daisies for my friend, and the selection of colors was awesome! The Manhattan Beach Vons is such a wonderful little store. 99% of the staff is knowledgeable, helpful and professional! There is one manager however who is rude and unwilling to be helpful. Kimberly A was so unpleasant and condescending to me that the unknown person in line behind me stopped me in the parking lot to console me. I am sure Von's would not want someone with her poor customer service representing them. But don't take it out on the store shoppers. The baby Vons is great. But beware of Kimberly A if you are a customer looking for any customer service. All you might get is a insincere, condescending, "have a nice day" repeated 3-4 times as you walk out the door disappointed and bewildered. read more

If there were negative stars I would give them. This review is not from one experience but from two years frequenting this location. Apparently the issues in this store stems from corporate, I am not sure if this store is the ugly step child or if Safeway literally does not care. It would be completely understandable if this store was under staffed during the summer, when it's heavily trafficked by local and non local tourists, however they are under staffed year around. Their product selection is extremely generic and their fresh foods is almost non existent. With a prime location and a monopoly on the market, this store could do phenomenally well. Nice Vons near Manhattan Beach, good stop to pick up a quick snack at a decent price. They have a legit little sandwich corner where you can make your own sandwich for around $5 so that was great! They also have premade sandwiches and other snack foods like hummus and salad which are good to grab and enjoy on the beach or just nearby. read more

Its a smaller Vons, so there isn't a huge selection of items. They did, however, do a little remodeling and it looks much better than it did before. Its also a super convenient location for all the people in manhattan beach that live closer to the beach. read more

In general, I love my local neighborhood beach Von's, but weird experience the other day. I wanted to get a homemade sandwich made. They had bagels in the bakery section, so I brought one to the sandwich area and handed it to the sandwich maker. She said I couldn't have the sandwich on a bagel because that came from a different department. My only choice was roll or bread. I repeated that I wanted it on a bagel. The arguing went nowhere. I told her to make me a sandwich without bread and I'd put it on the bagel myself. The whole thing was silly, but she chalked it up to Von's rules.
