This is probably one of the few places for free parking to shop at Vons. I needed to pick up a few things here, so parked in the lot for a few minutes to pick up some drinks. Don't go to the deli counter unless you want to be ignored. Everytime I have gone up to get some of the delicious cooked chicken it's impossible to get served. A woman in the back gives you the hand and "I'm busy here making more BBQ." I tell her I will wait. I wanted to make sure that she knew I was there. A young man walks up next to me. One of my favorite Vons stores! But my favorite drink is not there anymore for me to buy it daily to drink my coffee! Lucerne Hazlenut creamer for $5.99! I need this back in the shelf so I can have my daily day to day routine. I am not able and have to go out to Starbucks to buy coffee. My money is running out due to buying coffee outside the home when I drink 10 cups a day! Now I am running out of money in bank and credit cards! Bring back the Lucerne Hazlenut 60oz(?) I even forgot the size amount cuz I can't buy them anywhere in VONS& PAVILLIONS!!!! Have you tasted the coffee with it? It needs to all be lowered to 20's prices for November- December! Unwinding from race festivities in Manhattan Beach that day in July, we came here prior to getting dinner. We're out of town and I've never been to a VONs, but have a giftcard to the phlethora of supermarkets that also includes VONs gifted from a co-worker. We easily picked up two items we wanted and were on the hunt for a certain size of sour skittles - which they didn't have. Their was a worker who was following my boyfriend around - I didn't want to think much of it even though we know it was; my boyfriend wasn't aware - he's invested in this candy nor would he care to put two and two together. I told him after we left the supermarket that he was being followed. Do I know if we were being profiled as we were out of town or because we're Asian - I don't know. The man was not friendly when we called him for assistance: While we were trying to use my giftcard that I recieved two Chirstmases ago - at the self checkout - the process was not straightforward. We asked for help and the man kept saying, 'I don't think so', repeatedly. He didn't want to help us. Maybe there's something I'm missing.. but it left a bad taste in my mouth. All we wanted was to be rung up for two items.. - The manager ended up ringing us by the door - he was helpful and nice. That was the saving grace. If you're out of town - possibly Asian - possibly looking younger than you are - possibly tired - possibly not POC, maybe pass on this store. Or just see a clerk if you have a giftcard. read more

I was heading to the beach on my last day in LA, and saw this Vons grocery store on the way down. I stood in the parking lot and thought why not see if they have a rotisserie chicken. Turns out they did, so I knew what I had to do. I took this tissie down to the beach and demolished it. There's something spiritual about eating a whole bird in the California sun as the Manhattan Beach Pier looks over me in the distance. Manhattan Beach is special. As for the chicken itself, it was beyond dry. So dry. But it's a Vons rotisserie chicken so my expectations were in the mud. While it was dry, it still wasn't terrible. I'm slapping a 6/10 on it. This is the ultimate starter pack chicken, which I guess would make it a 5, but I'm still work-shopping this rating system. When I hear "5/10," I'm thinking borderline inedible. OMG Vons what have you done with this store I Was in there last week and you had 1 young lady working the register and the self check out and bagging groceries while who ever this new manager is was just standing doing nothing while this this young lady busted her rear. I asked her what her name was and she said Summer she is an amazing young lady. What has happened to this Vons. What happened to the nice manager that used to be here and also the deli manager what happened to her she was so nice. Unbelievable how this VONS has turned out. I was in there yesterday and again they had this young lady Summer working the register self check out and bagging groceries and again the manager was doing nothing. I am so sad how this beautiful store went from being amazing to turning out to be the way it is today. I have heard other people say the same thing while we were standing in line and the only reason I am writing this review is because I see how they are treating their employees as what the are doing to that sweet young lady Summer. They carry a Lot of unhealthy products containing high fructose corn syrup. My 11 years son just came back from this Vons MB Store and they sold him soft drink with high fructose corn syrup! and This is in the middle of 2024 with all the data and studies how HARMFUL for health this ingredient! Knowing that HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYROP IS HARMFUL why would you VONS sell it to CHILDREN and to people in general? Or why do you order it from Manufacturer? In this case child bought Dr. Pepper and Arizona tea both contain high fructose corn syrup. Additionally, with today's knowledge that that low-fat food is NOT beneficial for human health (because it's highly processed), why do you continue to sell only "low-fat" organic yogurts? I must admit along with the amount of parking, excellent customer service and awesome organization, this location was so close to receiving a five star rating from me. What caused a four star rating is the fact that I had fell in love with their chicken salad and lays jalapeno kettle chips. I returned the very next day looking for the same sounds and chips but they didn't have it. I had to settle for egg salad sandwich and regular Lay's barbecue chips. When in there for the third time and couldn't even find an egg salad sandwich let alone the actual sandwich I was looking for. And as far as the kettle lays, they didn't have them and it didn't have the bbq lays either. Once that happened I just vowed never to go back looking for a sandwich. Deli never has utensils for their 1-item/2-side deals. I go to this VONS whenever I am in Manhattan Beach. This big German/Bosnian lady at the deli told me that they ran out of utensils, even the chopsticks. So disorganized and unprofessional. Even that lady gave me a half-hearted apology. read more

This is the market closest to my home and I've been shopping here for 30 years. The service has always been pleasant and the selection of fresh fruit/veg passable but why I'm giving a 5 star rating is because of the exceptional customer service I received today. Come to this store if you'd like to be verbally harassed and disrespected. My father had an incident with one of the managers and few of the staff at this store the past week that was uncalled for. In light of Covid-19, LA County made mask wearing mandatory amongst staff working in essential businesses. We didn't know it was a "law" or mandatory for entry into this Vons. Which is fine, we have no problem wearing masks when asked, I understand this is all apart of curving the spread of Covid-19 to help us all get back to or normal lives. With that being said, my father walked into this Vons this past week to purchase an item and to over to the deli counter to get a sample of fried chicken. Two men were at the deli counter, one shorter, one taller, the short one proceeds to hand over the sample to my father and asks him where is his mask? My father answered, I don't have one. Then he looks at the manager, to ask if it's okay to give him the sample because he doesn't have a mask on. He says, he doesn't have a mask on, can I still give him this sample? The way he said it wasn't nice at all, it was hostile and rude. The manager, rude & hostile as well, says yes, he can have it but next time you come into the store, you have to have a mask or something covering your face, so my father covers his face with his shirt and says is this okay? The manager again proceeds to repeat twice more that he has to have a mask on the next time he comes into the store or he won't be serviced. My father, understandably so is irritated and tells him, he understands, he doesn't have to tell him that three times. The deli man shouts out to my father, "You're trying to kill people!" All of that in's uncalled for. All the "manager" & "deli man" had to do was tell him nicely & respectfully that he needs to have a mask on next time he comes into the store. My father told the man at the deli that he going to call corporate and complain about the treatment he received for him & the manager, he shouted at my dad, "Who gives a shit!" Can you believe that? I cannot believe someone working would even dream to speak to a customer that way. No respect what so ever. The man working on the deli, his name is Michael R. Both the manager, I believe his name is Chris Shaw, where very condescending and nasty. Customer Service isn't in their vocabulary. Also, what sense does it make to hand out samples of fried chicken during a Corniavirus Pandemic when people are required to wear masks in the grocery store. Makes no sense whatsoever. This store is run by a bunch of losers and rejects. The store is old, dirty and dysfunctional. The food is often old and overpriced. They should just do themselves a favor, close this store and open up a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's in this location. read more

Just not a good vons. First off. I've observed the store director chris shaw multiple times. This guy has to go. Like bad. He is the epitome of an arrogant old guy that loves his control on everyone in the store. Big yikes! Anyway... The store is ancient. And I mean ancient. How they have not done a remodel is beyond me. There is one bathroom, way in the back, where there inventory is. One bathroom for a very constantly busy beach city? There should be two separate bathrooms and multiple stalls in each.... I was using it once, and came out to 9 people waiting. Otherwise the store is just ancient. Very old wood with obvious wood rot. And filth in most places you'd expect there to be filth after so many years. But man.. REMODEL THE STORE. This is a vons with expensive food, a lot of customers, in a RICH City. They got money bro! SPEND SOME ON THE STORE. Zzz... Anyway. I walk up to the sandwhich station of the deli counter. There is two people helping and one in the back working on baked chicken. This larger spanish woman comes over and shits down my throat because I didnt stand in line. What line? I was one of two people waiting to be served. And the other person was already being helped. Their designated line section was on the other end of the deli by the cheese and meat as well. I just needed a sandwhich made up, so I say "okay I didn't see that there but I just need a sandwhich made up mam". And she responds with "well you'll have to wait". So she stands there for like 5 minutes doing random shit to buy time and then another guy walks up to the deli counter, also a spanish guy. Her eyes light up like firecrackers and she immediately greets him with kindness and asks how she can help him. And the guy is like "uhm I'm not next he is(pointing at me). And right as I begin to agree with him she butts In and cuts me off and then she just says "oh he's fine your next". And this guy looks really confused and just rolls with it, gets his salad and leaves. After he is done she turns to me and rolls off a "and so what do you want now". LIKE WTF????? LADY IM TRYING TO GET A SANDWHICH HERE, SORRY UR A RACIST PSYCHO I GUESS??????? zzzzz..... ANYWAY. I told her I wanted her to F$*#k off. Lol... And I just walked away. I like Vons a lot. We passed 2 Ralph's so I could get to a Vons.. and here we found ourselves! What the heck did we do without GPS in the past? Oh yes, TALK to each other and ask for directions! The parking lot here is jammed, the aisles are jammed (narrow) and this Vons is one of the smaller ones I have visited. I mean, it is Manhattan Beach and real estate is prime! We still found everything we needed but could not wait to get out of there. Cashier at the express cash was sweet. There is a public restroom at the rear of the store. Prices are 'typical Vons prices' which to us, are reasonable enough with our savings card. read more

Instantly saw a large bottle of La Fin Du Monde which is a great beer, so we were at the check-out super fast. Dawn, I did not see an option on the "contact us" to provide feedback on a shopping experience for a specific store, but in case someone cares to improve, here are the details: the fresh daily bread is of extremely poor quality. The French bread when you pick it up it folds over, it is floppy, top of bread doesn't have the usual cuts, it is probably the lowest quality I've ever seen. . The employees just shrug and I was told "yeah they sometimes over bake it and sometimes underbake... don't know why". The meat and produce quality is limited and extremely poor. I came here for the first time. I just wanted to pick up some ground beef and a few other items. I went to the meat department and there was only 1 package of ground beef. Matter of fact there was very little meat at all and all was marked down incredibly low. Normally that would be a good thing but today is July 14 and ALL of the meat was dated "Sell By July 14" I turned around and walked out. What ...they didn't put out fresh meat until the old was all sold? AND...the ground beef was dark in color like it was really old. Never again! The advertisement outside may seem inviting, but the second you request attention from one of the staff members, they'll say the following, "there's no one here" or, "come back earlier next time". I've heard "do you see anyone else here?" And "is it really that important to you?" I don't have this problem at any other vons store. My son and I went into the store and none of the associates greeted us like at other neighborhood Vons.I had my hands full of groceries and one of the associates walked by me twice with a cart and proceeded to help another person look for something in front of me, neither of them said excuse me. Just pushed me aside. At the check out counter the associate did look up and said "oh hi...". When she was finished charging me, she pushed all of my things to the end and did not ask me if I wanted any bags or help. My son did forget to place an item back in my cart, and she did hand it to us, that was nice, I guess. Personally I would rather spend 2 hours at the Compton DMV then spend one second in this Vons. This particular Vons should not even be open for business it's SO poorly run. There are 5 checkout lines which 4 should just be removed because they are never open. Everyone that works there is beyond miserable which flows throughout the entire store. If you can even find one person who works their; don't ask them anything as they don't even know where they are. I can't even talk about the Deli department...it's beyond my wildest dreams of what pure failure is. So this particular Vons is pint sized with a very limited selection of what you would expect to find in a typical Vons. Due to its location right at the entrance to DTMB, a regular sized Vons would really change the character of the area. If you need basics then this store is perfect. I only shop here when I need milk on the way home from work. They do have a sandwich and deli counter but no bakery. It seems like they are always short staffed with not enough checkers so it will not be a quick in and out. The parking lot is always packed too. I think they just get tons of beach goers in their lot because the ratio of cars to patrons seem off. read more

I did some grocery shopping, put the groceries in my car, did some more shopping, and came back only to discover a parking ticket on my car. I spoke to the manager, who immediately got all flustered and confrontational, and he said it's my fault since I wasn't a paying Vons customer. I showed him proof of my receipt and he said it didn't matter and that I was in the parking lot too long. Where do I even begin? I'll start by saying that I have been to this Vons THOUSANDS of times. Not only did ai grow up down the street from this Vons, but I've been going here for 35 years, and went there when it was then called Lucky's and when it was called Safeway. So I have a right to have my opinion here. Never has the customer service been worse here than it is right now. Firstly, the massive lines they allow to build up because they have either only one or at the most two people on registers, is extremely irresponsible, and will drive away customers. I have no problem going to Ralph's on Sepulveda instead. Secondly, I was just in there today, standing in a line of 8 customers. Only one person on a register. A new cashier (whom I have never seen) comes out from around the corner of another register and asks the woman BEHIND me to come over to her register. I had not set my stuff down. I spoke up and said, "I'd like to checkout, I'm in a hurry." Then she gave me a dirty look, went EXTREMELY SLOW and was awkward the whole time. Btw, it's the middle of Summer, a high tourism time. They should have people on each register. This is not just the cashiers. It's also the people who work at the deli. No customer service or sense of urgency. read more
