And their onion rings? Easily some of my favorites in town! Unfortunately, my self-checkout experience took some of the nostalgia away. I used a clipped coupon through the Ralphs app and needed a little assistance. After I scanned and voided the item because the price wasn't matching, the machine prompted for an employee to come over. Claudia came over, but unfortunately, the customer service was missing from the equation. No smile, no "good morning," no greeting--just straight to business. I politely asked if she could help me apply the clipped coupon. She responded by pointing out that I had voided the item and then began throwing my groceries around to locate the item associated with the coupon. She scanned it, I said thank you, and she walked away without a word. I was thinking, "Well...that was a checkout experience with all the warmth of a frozen onion ring." I'm not expecting a red carpet at self-checkout, but a simple greeting, smile, or "You're welcome" goes a long way. Especially when a customer is politely asking for help. I support this Ralphs because of the history I have with this location, and I genuinely want to see local stores succeed. As a business owner myself, I understand that frontline employees are often the face of the entire business. Customer service plays a huge role in retention and getting customers to come back. Management: a little refresher on customer service could go a long way. The store itself is great, and the employees I've encountered here over the years have generally been wonderful. I'd hate for one interaction to overshadow an otherwise positive experience. Will I come back? Absolutely. It's my old neighborhood Ralphs, after all. But hopefully my next checkout comes with a smile--and maybe another order of those onion rings.

While waiting, two employees (one African American and one Hispanic) began shouting at each other and appeared ready to engage in a physical confrontation. I even encouraged nearby staff to de-escalate the situation so service could continue. This was extremely uncomfortable for customers and reflected poorly on the store. When I asked an employee named Juanita (per her name badge) if she was the manager, she said she was not. However, it later became clear that she was in fact the manager on duty. This interaction, combined with the visible lack of respect and cohesion among staff, suggests deeper issues with leadership, training, and team accountability. I understand that running a busy store is challenging, but customers -- regardless of background -- deserve prompt, professional service, especially when picking up pre-ordered catering for important events like a wedding. The store manager, Eduardo, issued a refund and a $10 credit, but that response felt dismissive given the severity of the situation. This experience has been extremely distressing and has made me hesitant to order again. This review is for GEORGE the manager of Vons and the man who took my cake order. I ordered a special cake for my son's big 13th bday surprise party. I came in earlier in the week to place the order and the man behind the counter (sorry I don't have his name, he was a deaf gentleman) was so nice and patient as I wasn't sure what to order. He kindly walked me through the options without rushing me and gave me his opinion. When I came in the day of the party to pick up the cake there was a problem. The cake wasn't finished and the icing that was on there was the wrong color. The lady wanted me to wait for the Cake to be redone from scratch. It created a real problem being that the party was being held an hour away and waiting for this cake was going to make me late ruining the surprise. Now the amazing part. I spoke with George and he was seriously and genuinely the nicest man dealing with the issue. He acknowledged the mistake and offered to deliver the cake to the party himself. I explained it was an hour away and wasn't possible. He insisted he'd still deliver the cake. Honestly, I couldn't accept the offer it seemed like too much and it wasn't his fault but he convinced me. He said, he loves driving and this is how he treats his customers if something isn't right, he makes it right. WOW, WOW, that's so unheard of. How amazing is that! So he texts me a picture of the cake for approval. (It was perfect) and showed up to the party with the Cake 30 min after I got there. Thank you George so cool of you. I have been coming to this Vons for the past few years because it's the closest grocery store to me. The customer service is very subpar, but the black lady with the braids whose always smoking outside who works the mid to closing shift is the most miserable worker I've ever encountered. She can never do her job, is always talking to coworkers about inappropriate topics (talking shit, talking about smoking weed, etc) while checking people out and it's just so off putting. Like lady you work here full time and have for the past few years and have remained in the same role since I've started shopping there. Hasn't moved up to being a supervisor, assistant supervisor, manager, or anything, and mind you has been there longer than any of the other workers. I'm assuming this is why she must be so miserable because if I was middle aged with not much going for myself but a dead end job I'd be too, but here's my advice to her maybe if you did your very simple job right and at least put a smile on your face you could at least move up to being assistant supervisor lmfaoooo. They should actually fire her because she makes the whole team look bad, whoever hired her clearly has no standards for who they want to be the face of their company. Pretty sad actually. This is the most dirtiest Vons I've ever seen and with my mother working with the company so long I never saw a bathroom so disgusting I am a customer that this store and every time I come there nobody on carts and I went to use your bathroom and wen I went to the Urinal there was shit inside there and I'm not a genius but I know you supposed to use the actually toilet and when I reported they just said ok and didn't do nothing about it but after all that the deli department is great when it come to customer service and they so friendly and nice. I scheduled a pickup order with Vons Gardena for 8 pm, only to receive a text at 7 pm claiming my order was already picked up. Confused, I called the store immediately to rectify the situation, explaining that my pickup time wasn't until 8 pm and that I had not picked up my order. The associate promised a callback from the manager but, unsurprisingly, that call never came. It's been three days, and I'm still waiting for that call - Had to dispute the transaction instead. Terrible customer servic! What's more troubling is the suspicion that an employee might have taken my order for themselves, as pickup typically requires a code that only the customer should have. There is a racist Mexican male employee who has been harassing me for the past two weeks. I am a door dasher that works late night shifts around Gardena. This man will pull beside my car, shout racial slurs and then call the police on me before starting his shift. Tonight around 12:00am he once again called the police on me before starting his shift. I have made repeated complaints over the phone to the night shift manager and each time she just laughed and said that the employee never did any of those things. Most of the grocery stores in this area have terrible customer service! But this Vons has to have the worst the place is absolutely packed they have 5 cash registers running and there's 8 of us standing in line at the customer service desk the manager is walking around pushing baskets back to where they belong and cleaning up go backs, which is important but he could lend a hand at the front end and help us out! When Whole Foods first opened, it was amazing. The gelato bar, the chocolates bar the BBQ, and the…read morefresh fish--everything felt like it lived up to the hype. The hot (and not-so-hot) offerings, the sushi, and the olive bar were all great too. Then we all knew the shine wouldn't last--like smoke and mirrors--and sure enough, it did fade. The salad bar and "warm food" are usually just "okay." Honestly, it never feels truly hot, so calling it a "hot food bar" is kind of misleading. Sometimes it's fresher and healthier, but at other times it's not as good--more dried out, if you catch my drift. The other morning, I wanted a breakfast burrito. I had time, so I stopped in for coffee and only that--I figured since it had just opened, I should expect better. They had beautiful paper-wrapped breakfast sandwiches and burritos. I picked one up, and it felt light, which is what you want when you're hungry. Then I paid--do you go for the $12 option or the $25 double? I went with the $12 one. I opened the paper and found a microwave-style glob stuck to it. The potatoes were al dente, but not in a good way. It felt like there was more melted cheese than actual egg, and it was disappointing. It's frustrating because you'd think a company under the "Amazon empire" umbrella--especially one with questionable ethics--would still protect quality and staffing so the experience stays upscale. You know the "smut/smog layer" I'm talking about: once that shows up, you can feel the difference. Anyway, maybe Ralphs is similar, but I'll be avoiding that 1/3 of the store moving forward. I'll still do some of my produce and other shopping there, just not that section. I know I should've taken it to a manager, but it already seems they're well aware.
