We are regulars at 99 Ranch in Gardena. Though it's a drive for us, this location always has most everything we need. They are located in Gardena on Artesia Blvd in a big plaza with plenty of parking. The staff is friendly and helpful. The cashiers are also friendly. Prices are comparable to others and they ales have sales/deals. We love their seafood area. The dungenese crab is always good. Though we have been here a couple of times looking for clams, they my not be in season. The place is clean and kept stocked. They have lots of international items you don't find at regular markets. This is one of the smaller locations of two stores available in my area, but with a larger produce selection than the newer location on 190th Street. There is a large selection of Asian products. Note that this location doesn't have a bakery, hot food. Punter, or coffee bar. Service is great, please is relatively clean considering it is a very old building. read more

My go-to spot for asian groceries even though it's a bit of a drive. It's no frills and I tend to have fun getting lost looking at all the variety of goods. My most recent visit was on Christmas Day (they were open until 9pm). The price per lb for crab was $15.99 which was less than Westwood and Van Nuys location so I chose this location. I don't have to wait too long for check out because there are multiple lines. The phone reception is terrible though so if you're trying to send photos to people, then expect delays. This location has a ton of restaurants in the complex so it's great being able to pick up big goods from 85° bakery or trinkets from Daiso. There's a large parking lot but can be busy - never have an issue waiting too lot for a spot though. It's conveniently located right next to the freeway. read more

Man, I sure do miss 99 Ranch Market! We used to have this when we lived in Las Vegas and I swear it was the cleanest and most organized Asian supermarket I've ever been inside. 99 Ranch has a wide selection of fresh produce, meats and seafood along with all the Asian pantry necessities you can find. We stopped in here to get something quick for my friend. So we didn't spend a lot of time in here as we were hitting up all the Asian markets throughout the day. This was a nice location close to Daiso and 85 Bakery where we went to. LA is pretty spoiled with all the cool Asian markets here like 99 Ranch Market, H Mart, Mitsuwa Marketplace and Tokyo Central too. It's probably best that we don't have these cool Asian markets in South Florida because I would probably be broke. Lol. read more

Not the best 99 Ranch I have been to, but they have everything that you can need. I think I am comparing them to the 99 Ranches in the Bay Area that have a whole self serve dum area. They are open late and on major holidays which is a big plus. Decent sized produce area to have most of the basics you need and there is usually someone doing samples if you go during the day. The aisles are stocked with the different types of shelf stable food and drinks. They have all of the different basics and sauces that you need. A bakery and restaurant where you can get what you need. Not too busy or overwhelming and clean so you can easily find what you are looking for. Most of the time you can figure it out, but the employees are always stocking so you can ask them for assistance if you need. read more

The good: We got a good deal on lychee here. I also got Chinese cooking wine and Vietnamese goods like pho seasoning. The cashier was friendly and smiley. This was my go-to Asian market for Vietnamese goods until they opened a closer one to me recently. It's better for Chinese goods but they do sell enough Vietnamese things like herbs, spices and rice paper. The guy restocking the shelves was also helpful and chipper. The vegetables looked fresh. The bad: It was freezing cold inside. The lychee was tart and juicy but didn't have much meat and was mostly a giant seed. They didn't have the pho seasoning packet I wanted in the brand I was looking for. Green onion and cilantro were okay prices but are cheaper at H-mart. The interesting: In NorCal we cal this market Ranch 99 instead of 99 Ranch. read more

This is the first time I went to this location. It seemed very clean inside comparative to a few other locations I've been to. I found what I was looking for, packaged tofu snacks. You had even more than usual too, different brands. I stocked up and I like what I got. If I were closer I'd shop here more often. I'm always on the lookout for my hello kitty chocolate filled marshmallows but that flavor isn't sold at this location. I decided to try pineapple and it was the best. I'll be back soon because my mom is in love with the variety of ginger chews. I want to explore a little more. Visited on Monday, 07/25/22 for the first time. I didn't know there's a 99 Ranch Market here in the South Bay. I will say this 99 Ranch is smaller compared to the other ones I've been to (Rowland Heights & Chino Hills in particular). This place sells fresh produce and you can also buy seafood here! There's dim sum bites at the deli! There were a few choices to choose from, like sesame balls, but I had to get the sticky rice and pork bun! Although it looks small, it's fulfilling. I used to go to the 99 Ranch Market a lot as a kid in Diamond Bar area and remember it being a nice big market. This one is small and just meh. Not much variety BUT we were looking for 1 specific thing... MANGOSTEENS! We know these Asian markets tend to carry exotic fruits compared to your local Vons and Ralphs so we were happy to find it. It looks like a plum on the outside. Garlic cloves on the inside. But tastes freaking amazing! Sweet, subtle, and juicy. Almost tastes like a lychee, peachy, deliciousness. [Review #538] 2020 Yelp 100 Challenge (43/100) I love having a 99 Ranch Market in the South Bay, it sure beats driving out to SGV or Chinatown (& that's another issue because all the Chinese grocers are closing down in that neighborhood these past couple of years... so sad... ironically there used to be a 99 Ranch Market on Hill St. near the 110 Fwy entrance a couple decades ago). I digress... the Gardena location isn't as large as the preferred San Gabriel, but this market has pretty much what I'm looking for. I loved the S.G. because they used to make fresh red bean cake (紅豆餅) or custard cake (奶油餅) aka wheel cakes (車輪餅) that I shared with my Mom. This location has a sizable parking lot but it may get packed, especially on weekends. Since COVID-19, curbside pick-up is now available but I'm not sure if they have a shopping app that allows you to pre-order groceries like Vons, Ralphs, or even Target. They now offer a sanitizer & paper towels to spray & wipe the shopping cart's handle bar, lagging from their American counterparts; however, at every register in addition to plexiglass, a bottle hand sanitizer is available for a quick spritz as well as by the entrance. Way to go, 99 Ranch! =) Under normal circumstances, the market is orderly & well-stocked, but in recent months, supplies are limited though they're better/getting better. I can actually find rice (not needed since a 25-lb. bag lasts nearly a year for my fam) & dried noodles, certain items have a purchase limit in case people decide to hoarding again. I also noticed a griminess to the floors that wasn't present in years past. It's more apparent when you're headed to the restroom located behind the meat department. :-| And samples are no longer common nor provided for safety reasons, so I'm less likely to try new product(s); at their counterparts, if you try something & you don't like it, you can return it (i.e. Trader Joe's or Sprouts, but that's no longer the case, at least for now). I go through phases where I'm frequently shopping here at least weekly or sporadically maybe a couple times annually. I love the meat/seafood department for the quality beef, chicken, pork, & fish; this is especially important for 火鍋 aka hot pot. =) Fruits & veggies are often fresh (I say often because once in awhile there's a bad batch & the fruit is more soft/soggy than crisp) & fairly inexpensive unless it's a bad crop season. I usually pick-up boy choy (白菜), water convolvulus (空心菜) or ong choy (通菜), Chinese broccoli (芥蘭), Chinese spinach/amaranth (莧菜), pea shoots (豆苗), yu choy (油菜), oranges, golden kIwi, apples, watermelon. Recently, I've been also picking up their king oyster mushrooms... that I sometimes use in place of a protein. Since being cooped up, I'm nostalgic for haw flakes (山楂餅) & preserved plums (旅行梅 or 陳皮梅). Also, on my 1st shopping trip during the initial lockdown, I discovered XIAO MEI BROWN SUGAR BOBA ICE CREAM BARS (小美: 黑糖珍奶) & I've been fascinated since they first trended last year. And now that summer is here, they not only have XM but they also have YI MEI BROWN SUGAR PEARL MILK ICE BARS (義美: 黑糖珍奶) & TIGER SUGAR BLACK SUGAR BOBA MILK ICE CREAM BARS (虎: 黑糖波霸厚雪糕)!!! And a pretty decent supply I might add. I'm in boba ice cream heaven! ;-) Sadly, on this trip, I was running multiple errands so I had to forgo them (boohoo!). I was also looking for guilinggao (龜苓膏) which was plentiful & on sale, but couldn't find any this time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As mentioned in my other 99 Ranch reviews, I don't cook well so I rely on the an abundance of sauces for various proteins & veggies such as: 瑞士汁 (all purpose marinade, one of my fav sauces), 辣椒油 (chili oil), 黑椒雞柳醬 (black pepper chicken sauce), 魚香醬 (spicy garlic sauce), 麻婆豆腐醬 (ma po tofu sauce). Love, love, love the sauce aisle... hehehe... my cheat for easy Chinese dishes. At checkout, the cashiers are either brisk or fairly friendly... I'm thankful for their service so I can have food on the table so no qualms if they're having a rough day. Can you imagine what they go through emotionally & physically each time they clock in, especially if they have family members with compromised health? With social distancing, the cashiers are mopping down the automatic belt after each customer to help prevent the spread of cv. I love how corporate cares about their customers that they offer special hours for the elderly, those with compromised health, & 1st responders & healthcare professionals. This level of support & service to the community makes one feel proud (& honored) to support 99 Ranch. =) So yeah, I'm a fan. Tip: Join their loyalty program for discounts. And to check for expired items, especially the refrigerated ones. Recommended: Fruits, Asian veggies, Lee Kum Kee sauces, fresh & frozen ingredients for hot pot, seafood (they'll even descale the fish for you), meats (they'll even slice the slab to more manageable pieces)... most recently, boba ice cream bars! read more

My wallet was swiped out of my purse while grabbing produce they were quick to use cards at the nearby Walmart in Cerritos. Management did little to assist they said no one approached me while shopping. Took car keys as well as I waited for ride two men similar height and stature as the employees dressed in black pants and white shirts were seen near car opening the doors. I had a winning Scratchers ticket so I went in to exchange it for more Lottery tickets. They have a separate cashier area to make these transactions so it was easy to go in and out without a long wait. Bad customer services from a cashier who stated that she doesn't bag up groceries because that's not what she does. Instead, she continued to ring up the next customer and was just really rude. Looking around, all of the other cashiers were helping their customers bag up their groceries before helping the next customer in line. Prior to this, she and her coworker were both sitting or squatting behind their registers with both of their lights on as an indication that their lane was open for customers. Such poor mannerism and definitely weren't brought up appropriately. I hope management do better with hiring people who actually want a job. read more

Honestly I've had okay feelings of this location, sometimes it's very clean sometimes it's not.. I've had friendly and unfriendly counters but this was a uncomfortable experience for my mother today. She went in to buy several items and she noticed some items were on sale. She so happen to take a picture of the sale items (because she has noticed in the past the price listed is not the price at check out) and yup she gets charged for normal price of these two items. She mentioned it to the checkout lady and the lady said it's not on sale, mother shows her the picture and they go to the aisle to see. Counter lady takes away the sale price sticker and said it's a mistake. The manager eventually comes by and settles the situation but it was still a whole hour long eventful situation with a lot of "he said, she said" accusations that could've been avoided. I love going here, but i just recently got EBT and was asking the older lady at the cashier if they accept it and unfortunately she wasn't so literate in english and had to ask her coworker for help which they said yes, after that interaction the older women scoffed and made me feel very bad. I'm a college student and have a job, it's sad to see this stereotype first hand that i never thought would happen so openly. other than that interaction i felt followed as many employees don't understand personal space, H mart is better. read more

By far, one of the worst 99 ranch in the franchise. I only frequent because I'm completely out of options when living in the South Bay. The seafood counter is filthy and the fish aren't even fresh. I waited over 30 min in line just to get 2 ''fresh'' tilapia, only to have the fish cutter screw up the cleaning the process, explode the insides and cause both fish to taste utterly bitter. A waste of an hr to cook, the prices I paid for the fish, and the amount of time I waited in line to have them botch this when it's their bread and butter. This place is always dirty and stinky but price is reasonable. I hardly go there but if I do, I only buy produce and packed items to protect myself. I was there today. The stocker was working so hard to stock up the items to the shelves and she did not care if she kept bumping into customer few times. The cashier lady did not want to wipe the blood from the fish that customer brought before me. I asked her to wipe down the wet scanner and the area well since I see pinkish water from the paper she was wiping. She did not want to wipe well insisting it was just a water. I did not want to deal with her so I just walked away from her and went to different cashier. The person behind me also did not stay the line . No matter which 99 Ranch Market I end up at, it always has a fishy smell right when I walk in! It's something that I used to joke with my dad about whenever we would go together LOL. Since I'm half Hong Konger/half Japanese-American, I'm used to how Asian markets run their business. Not going to go into too much detail but I'll tell you the main thing: customer service is definitely not a priority so since I understand this, that aspect is not being included towards my Yelp rating (if that makes sense). The market is kept clean enough (minus the fishy smell) and it's well-organized for what you can get. Since this market has been a staple from my childhood, I'm used to it and it's nothing special for me. The best way I can compare it is Americans shopping at a big-chain grocery store like Ralph's, Vons, etc. Just a side note, I don't come here for my main groceries but only for two things: jasmine rice and honey lemon marmalade (it's amazing when you make a tea, especially if you have a cold). As I enter I starting seeing different food selection from Vietnam,Japan, China, Korean, Indonesia, Taiwan, Filipino, Hong Kong,Thailand just to name a few, The store was clean with well stock Items on the shelves and not the floor, most of the items was mark In English. There is even a sea food selection in the rear of the store that you can purchase some sea food and have it cook for you.
