    Cebuchon (not just ordinary lechon)
    James A.

As we are getting my mother-in-law acclimated to the Filipino diaspora in Southern California, my wife and she have been making the rounds of the various Filipino grocery stores. Seafood City as a brand of Asian supermarkets, has spread to Chicago so she was familiar with the name. They made a quick stop at the location in Carson on a weekday. They noticed that the deli had cebuchon available (not always the case), so picked up half of a roll for $17.99 a lb (a pound and a half worth), to bring back for our dinner. The location is not as big as the one in Chicago, but there are many locations here in SoCal, and it doesn't seem to get as crazy busy as it can in the Chicago location. Cebuchon is a type of Filipino style roasted pig (lechon), focusing on the pork belly, rolled, flavored and slowly roasted...originating from the province of Cebu (hence the name). It's not that common, and my mother-in-law remarked that she has never seen it sold at a grocery store before. By the time we got to eat it, the skin had become very hard and crunchy and inedible in some parts....this is a dish best eaten as soon as it is finished being prepared. But it still made for an elevated meat dish that all of us enjoyed. It was too much for the three of us to consume in one day. The next day, we used it as the piece-de-resistance for servings of instant tonkonsu ramen...along with the added hard boiled egg, it made for a good bowl of ramen, even if it started out as instant.

This Seafood City felt like it was a lot bigger than some other ones I have visited, so I was overwhelmed and went a little overboard and threw a ton of items in the cart. My only complaint is that I couldn't take ice cream because home is so far away. Bakersfield needs a Seafood City and I know our Bakersfield Filipinos are jealous. They have all the kitchen essentials here, everything a Filipino kitchen needs to function. They even have the starter packs in the produce area for everything you need to make certain dishes to make sinigang or other soups. The produce always looks really good and I can't complain, some Asian stores sometimes have bad looking veggies, but anytime I have come they are all good. My favorite thing to shop at seafood city definitely has to be the variations of longanisa, the canned goods and all the different types of noodles. If you never been then you should check it out. I always tell my non Asian friends/coworkers that this is comparable to the Filipino version of Vallarta.

I wanted to make champorado, and they didn't have any sweet white rice. They had purple, brown, and regular rice. I was hoping to purchase all my ingredients here, but their chocolate selection wasn't great either. The aisles are all mislabeled; don't bother reading the signs. Please do better!

The worst. Soggy, and you can taste this was fried in old oil.

Buy your Turon somewhere else. This one is bad, soggy and the oil taste like old. I wish they would at least cook this properly

Bike racks for seafood city employess but placed in front of other establishments.

Hey seafood city carson remove your bike racks in front of atlas and pnb remittance. place it where people will not be harmed by it. I tripped and fell because of these bike racks. these are safety hazards. incident happened on saturday 5/10/25. hopefully these are all gone. don't wait for another unfortunate incident to happen. also answer your corporate office phone especially for complaints. all ads for giving back to community are all for show???. this should be a negative rating!!!

The two star reviews I've seen seem to be pretty accurate. I'm going with three since my experience wasn't as bad as theirs. I wandered in hoping for some fresh calamansi and hoping they'd have some good produce prices. I got neither. It's been a little while since I've been in to a Seafood City and this one seems crowded and smaller than other locations. Customer service- If that's what you want to call it. Aisles are blocked by stocking without much thought to how it can interfere with customers shopping. At checkout, I was automatically charged for a bag even though I had my own and they didn't bother to ask if I needed a bag. Maybe I'm just not the right color since the cashier ignored me to chat with the person in line behind me. Prices- Higher than what I'm used to at similar stores. While they do have some harder to find items, the prices overall aren't great across the board. Quality- Produce seems to be second rate quality, like lots of little scratches and bruises, even deep scratches and mold. Lots of wasted plastic for packaging items that don't need to be in a tray with plastic wrap (like bell peppers). Parking was okay, oddly lots of people sitting in their cars and lots of people smoking. If you need a hard to find item, maybe it's worth going here, but otherwise, I'd seek an alternative.

There's limited parking in the back of the building and only big enough for smaller compact cars. They have several buckets of fish sitting on ice chips, lining the middle of the store. A couple live tanks against the wall. Decent variety. When I was choosing my fish from their ice buckets, I thought they looked a little extra slimy but against my better judgment just gave it a shot anyway. Took my catfish to the kitchen to request it be fried. Within a couple hours of eating, I got the worst food poisoning I've had in a very long time. This was such a disappointing experience and now I'm sick as a dog. If I could leave 0 stars, I would.

I've lived close by for years and I gotta say, after coming to Quality Seafood twice (once in Nov…read more '25 and in March '26), I will definitely stop taking this South Bay gem for granted. I've only had the pleasure of having the following items below, but I'll be back in the coming years to try more. - Calamari [7.7/10]: regardless of what size you order, the portion is generous. This place doesn't overdue it with the batter and lets the flavor the fresh squid shine - which I adore. Only giving this dish its rating because there are a few Italian spots in Torrance that have my heart when it comes to the best calamari. - Fish Tacos [8.5/10]: Every bite gives a nice crunch of both batter and fish. I've had unpleasant experiences where I've had pockets of crispy batter, here the fish tacos are so great it actually doesn't need much support from lemon and/or tartar sauce. Be sure to order a couple of these bad boys during happy hour for $5 each. - Clam Chowder [8.3/10]: This place hits the mark on the texture of a classic chowder. Admittedly my cup could have used a touch of salt. I would have liked a bigger portion for what I paid for, but if you're in the mood for something hot to compliment your fried seafood - this is worth getting. This is also featured on the happy hour menu for $5 - Garlic Fries [10/10]: My favorite bite from this place so far. Not on the happy hour menu, but 100% worth getting and eating with your fish, shrimp, crab, lobster, etc. Perfect amount of seasoning and that white wet sauce on top is so so so addicting. The unsung hero of my most recent visit was Jose over at Station 20. In addition to taking my order, he single handedly called out orders for everyone by the dining the area during the end of happy hour rush. A whole wave of customers came in less than 10 mins I placed my order so I can only imagine how overwhelming things were on the service side of things. For my most recent visit, most of my order came in and my garlic fries came in last. I could tell there was a mix up in the kitchen, but Jose apologized and said a new order would be ready for me in less than 5. Definitely worth the delay/wait imo. Food is great. Seating is limited. Customer service is superb. But once you fish your food, you gotta take a long walk along the pier. It's a wonderful way to rejuvenate and make sure the quality seafood digests well. Can't wait to explore more of the menu, including the happy hour drinks.

I've been coming to Quality Seafood for the past couple of years, usually on Fridays for fish…read moretacos, and I've ordered the same fish taco and shrimp taco combination 40 to 50 times. It has generally been a place I've enjoyed and recommended, which is why this stood out. There's always been some normal inconsistency in portion. Some days the fish is bigger, some days smaller. Same with the shrimp, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. That never bothered me. It's part of a busy seafood counter, and I've never felt the need to say anything. What I got today was different. The fish taco was on the small side and dry, but the shrimp taco was the issue. It was served fried, very dark, and overcooked to the point the shrimp was tough. When I opened it after a few bites, I realized I was mostly eating tortilla and toppings. There were only about three shrimp total, which is noticeably less than what I've consistently received here before. In prior visits, I've also been asked whether I want my tacos grilled or fried, including the shrimp, and I've consistently chosen the lighter, non-fried option. What I received today was not that. I approached the counter politely and simply said the taco wasn't good, pointing out the quality and portion issue. I wasn't trying to make a scene and I'm not someone who returns food, especially over something this small. I was more pointing it out so it didn't keep happening. I was told nothing could be refunded because I had taken a few bites, so I asked to speak with a manager. That's where this went sideways. Instead of listening, the manager immediately dismissed it. She repeatedly told me that what I described was "not possible," insisted they have never prepared shrimp any differently in her 27 years there, and said they only ever serve three shrimp. As someone who has ordered this exact item many times, I was essentially being told that my own experience did not happen. The conversation ended with me being asked to leave. I've worked in and managed restaurants. Mistakes and inconsistencies happen. This was a simple situation that could have been handled in seconds, either by replacing the taco or offering a refund. Instead, it was denied outright and escalated. This wasn't about a $5 taco. It was about how it was handled. Being told that your repeated experience is "not possible" and then being asked to leave is not an acceptable way to handle a reasonable concern.
