I wavered between 3 and 4 stars, the prices in produce are good. Not a good selection of vegan meat and cheese, too bad. Also a lot of stuff seems like offbrand, and if they're gonna do German imports I'd like to see them lean into it and offer more obviously German products. They don't play music and the staff doesn't seem happy to be there. The overall feeling is a bit glum. But the prices are better than most places. First time at this Aldi in Gardena, located near (or in) then Pacific Square Shopping Center. There is plenty of parking, and plenty of shopping carts lined up outside, ready for your quarter. I've noticed that brand new Aldis (like the one we frequent near our home) have a slightly different layout than this older one. In terms of product, it was well stocked with the essentials that we expect and even had the 'champaign' cheese that seems to be always out of stock at ours. This store does NOT have self-checkout, so they had two checkout lanes open, each with its own queue. Credit cards are accepted at Aldi's now, so good opportunity to get 5% back using the right credit card. read more

Missed a 5 star rating because I love Aldi! They usually have everything on my grocery list each time I go shopping. The Gardena location is the one that I most frequently visit. Their prices on grass fed beef and poultry fit right into my budget. They have brand name items as well as off brand, I buy it all. The team of employees is always very pleasant and efficient when checking out. The store itself is clean, but unfortunately, the restrooms definitely needed some attention. There was hand sanitizer in the soap dispenser rather than soap. I could tell that no one had cleaned the sink, mopped the floors, or cleaned the toilets in quite some time as there was scum in the sink that was pretty noticeable. The floors were sticky and stained. I will not go into the details of the toilet bowls. The same was also found in the second bathroom, both all gender. Message to Management: While I am a devoted Aldi shopper, I am asking that you do better in this area. The store is clean , however I don't know how I feel about not having baskets available ? They rent carts for a quart but sometimes you forget that quarter and it's a set back . Another thing is the no bags at all available ? Not even to purchase . Do not use their delivery service. I ordered a $24 item and 2 other items equaling $9. The $24 item was cancelled by the store because it was not available. I had indicated a $5.50 tip for the shopper. The total order (not including any fees, just the merchandise received) was only $9 but the tip remained as $5.50. So the shopper got an over 50% tip. I contacted customer service and they refused to do anything about it. They could have at lease given me a small store credit or something. I will never shop at Aldi again read more

Nice selection, friendly and helpful staff, very reasonable prices. Selection changes from time to time so if you see something you like, stock up because it may not be there on your next visit. Welcome to Gardena, Aldi! I shopped at Aldi with fam over the years in Chicago where they are based out of Batavia, IL. There are a couple things to know. First, you have to put a quarter in to a get a shopping cart. At the end your visit, you have to return the cart, once you connect the lock properly from the cart in front, you get your quarter back. Second, once you checkout, you have to go to the wall and bag your own groceries. I know this is different for SoCal but, they do not have courtesy clerks to keep overhead low thus, the competitive prices. First thing, I grabbed was a little bag of mini-donuts, I think they were only 1.69 *Just a few others* 10 oz. bag of chips 1.29 Fish sticks 2.99 Baby carrots 0.95 Gallon water 0.79 Sloppy Joes sauce 0.79 6 pack cup instant shrimp cup 1.54 Olive oil spray 1.39 5 pound bag potatoes 1.79 Christmas popcorn tin 3.99 Almond milk 1.99 Double stuff cookies (yes!) 1.75 Chuck steak for the fam 5.22 ...and more! There was only one reason why I came through here: CURIOSITY. Hubbers and I drove by a few days ago and had NO idea what this place is. I had some time to kill so I decided to come by and check out what ALDI is supposed to be about. Located on the same exact spot where Smart and Final used to be. Parking lot is shared with a few other businesses, but not a problem. I didn't need a cart since the intent was to just look around. An elderly woman had asked me to return hers since it w was too strenuous for her. (She had a cane, so I understand it might be a bit of a trek for her.) I returned the cart at its designated area and went straight into the store. (I later learned that a quarter is needed for the shopping cart which will be refunded back when the cart is returned. Had I known this, I would have given her a quarter! I feel bad...BUT NOW I KNOW!) Oh, and for the record, I like this idea. That way, people won't be just leaving their carts all over the place potentially dinging other people's cars (I find it really annoying when people don't return them to the designated area when it only takes a few seconds.) or even risk carts from thievery. Moving on. So, it's a grocery store! I'd describe it as a notch or two down compared to the likes of, let's say, Smart and Final. The first impression I got at walk-in was how clean and neatly placed everything is. The floors were without stains or marks. All the items in each aisle were stacked very neatly. The selection for frozen as well as fresh food was pretty decent. (Fresh salmon, WHAT?!) Most items weren't famous brands you normally see at a regular grocery store, but they weren't without it either (they carry coke, for example.) It was easy to maneuver everywhere. I left empty handed, though, as I didn't really need anything. Like I said, I came through out of curiosity. I'd return should the need come up, though. After reading most comments I am shocked how negative people are about the baskets and petty grievances toward the hardworking staff at this fantastic market ! Your not going to beat the prices or the quality . lots of name brands and fantastic European brands that American consumers are so weary of . Don't let that put you off because it's great products . The signature Aldi items are out standing. The breads fruit and cheeses are superb . Meat and fish and poultry is good too . All condiments are well priced you will safe a ton of money by shopping here . The bathrooms are clean and I think it's fantastic the checkers get to sit down on those chairs , if you ever have worked as a checker it's exhausting and thank less work , I say bravo to the the hardworking people of ALDIS !!! If you've never been to an ALDI in Europe, it's basically the exact same look and feel as its American counterparts. However, they definitely cater to the American shopping habits with a lot more variety and selections. You even have to deposit a quarter to borrow a shopping cart, but get that deposit back if you return the shopping cart to its home base. Prices are okay, not the most expensive but definitely not the cheapest either. If you live in Gardena, come give ALDI a look. Who knows, you might find some hidden gems. read more

The quality of the food is really good. It feels like a more economic Trader Joe's. The execution is what's not so good. A lot of times the carts that take quarters don't work and you lose a couple quarters before getting a cart. Also, much more often than a regular grocery store there are things out of stock. Lastly, the price tags are OFTEN not accurate. Today's examples were ice cream bars that were many boxes posted at $2 just to see it for $4 on my bill. I like the quality of the food so the pros outweigh the cons, just be careful if you're on a budget. They have to honor their posted prices so you can definitely ask for a price change, but I didn't want to hold up the line. read more

I love Aldi's. This place is awesome and I have no idea that this location did pick up groceries so you're able to order them and come and get it. Although I did try and order my groceries yesterday they were too busy and so now I'm doing it in the afternoon, which makes it a little traffic for me but it's worth it. The food is good quality even though nothing is namebrand. And the fruits in the vegetables are good to go. I love the grapes they're huge and I end up eating a whole bundle while I'm in the store grocery shopping lol, this parking lot is packed there's a lot of people here. This is a great location they're very well stocked. You have to put in a quarter to get your shopping cart but you get it back when you return it it helps keep the cost down of people having to go out in the parking lot and round up all the carts. Which intern makes groceries cheaper for us. Like I said, good spot, good store. Good customers and good food. read more

To all the privileged people out there who complain about the shopping carts, I have to shake my head. First of all there is a huge problem with people stealing shopping carts from local stores, so that is part of the need for the deposit (which you get back when you return the cart) but this store has phenomenally low prices and part of that is because they cut down on staff by incentivizing shoppers to return the cart themselves. It's not the kind of store that has 10 versions of every product, but I find a great majority of the groceries I need here. They have some niche products but likely won't find very specialty items like exotic spices here. Everything very fresh and it's always organized. read more

I came on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't very crowded. Tip: Bring 25 cents if you want a shopping cart, don't expect the checkout person to bag your stuff - there's a section to bag your stuff, and don't expect a bunch of name brand items. This place is pretty big and it's clean. They offer a variety of produce, meat, milk, stuff for baking, and packaged goods. I didn't recognize most of the brand names, but I still bought packaged tofu, their frozen strawberries, and a package of spinach. The tofu didn't seem marinated enough to me - it seemed bland, even though it was marinated. The berries we use in a smoothie, so I haven't had the chance to taste them thawed out. The spinach is good, though. It was a good deal. Although we didn't buy any meat, it looked pretty fresh and well packaged. I don't know if I'll come here for my main groceries, but it's nice to have close by when I'm missing a few ingredients! read more

Disclaimer: I was not making a grocery run, so didnt have my list or anything, was just scoping things out. First, by far and away, the prices. Because they don't have certain frills (hot bakery, butcher, rotisserie), you save. You bag your own groceries and you save. People, if you have a problem bagging your own groceries, you haven't noticed most grocery stores in CA moving to this model. The place reminded me of Fresh and Easy. I haven't tried their meat or frozen section yet, but I really liked some of their components. They have $2.50 wine, guys. I liked the look and taste of their produce (big thing for me). Ridiculously low prices for decent quality groceries. I've bought eggs for less than $1 and pineapple for $0.95. I think it's super rare to find a great bargain nowadays when it comes to groceries and organic foods. Aldi does have a small organic section and I'm pretty satisfied with the selection of broccoli and standard vegetables. Shopping carts require a deposit of $0.25 and bags do cost money. read more

I've shopped other ALDIs before for the discount pricing but wasn't aware that their food doesn't have the same additives as the regular grocery stores. We eat healthier food for a much lower price. We used to shop Food4Less and noticed a HUGE difference in the amount we were spending. By far we spend less and get better quality food at Aldi. The dog food they carry has also been amazing for our dogs and their allergies. read more

Aldi is my type of store. No frills, no whistles just good quality food for very reasonable prices. I shop for a family of 6. Typically make dinner 5 x's per week, pack 2 b-fasts, 2 lunches per day and make 1-2 huge breakfasts on the weekends. I spend about $175 per week, which is a lot less than I use to spend at my local Ralph's and still had to buy meat somewhere else as my local store doesn't have a meat counter. Most of the meat is vacuum sealed and lasts about a week with out any issues. I don't have to worry about forgetting to take something out of the freezer. My grocery day is on Monday's and usually takes me 45 minutes, since the store is small. I totally don't mind putting in a quarter for my cart, actually I think it's a brilliant idea. Cashiers are not chatty or super courteous but they're super fast and I never wait long- so no complaints. The counter to bag your groceries is also a good idea, as I pick a corner and bag everything the way I want without feeling the stress of someone waiting for me to finish. Finally we went this one in Gardena and found it 1 very clean 2 very reasonable price 3 many variety 4 fresh fruits and vegetables 5 well organized and efficiently designed inside 6 not crowded We were very pleased and bought many good food including Bavarian white sausage.
