Store manager- John Selof Cashier- Laura Western union hours: 9am - 9pm Vons: 6am - 12am Yesterday I arrived at Vons at 12 to pick up money from western union. I asked for the form and filled it out completely. I told the cashier I want to receive money as I handed her the form. She said the lady that does the western union is at lunch she'll be back around 1pm. I asked for manager, and was told why ask for him, he can't do it. I left. Today at 10am I approached the counter and asked to receive money from western union Laura the cashier said we don't open until 11. I immediately asked to speak to the manager, John Selof. She went to the office said a few words and I could hear John say distinctively, "who's mad about western union". Then he comes out the office. I tell him I'd like to receive money from western union he says it's closed. I showed him the posted hours of operation from yelp and google. His response I've been working here 6 months and I've been opening at 11am. He said my employee that operates the western union doesn't get in until 11am. I explained I was here yesterday with another issue. Obviously he didn't want to help or assist as a manger should. So I asked for a complaint form. They no longer have those forms. It is 2017. So I asked for a receipt with the store information. John grabbed a receipt, ripped it in half and gives me the bottom half that doesn't contain the information necessary for a complaint. I grabbed a pen then wrote his name John as her name Laura. I told him thank you. Walked out the store, walked back in and asked Laura for a receipt that contains the store information, which she did. I then showed her the receipt John gave me. Then I left. I called the customer service line they assisted me and were very polite. The incident will be handled by the district manager. read more

The Vons is my favorite, it's in a nice neighborhood on a very busy street. There is a huge parking lot because they share it with other stores, it's always clean both inside and outside. The floral dept. is the first thing you see when entering the store, so whatever season that is in they go above and beyond with their display. This store has a pretty good size deli- and bakery section. I have shop here so many times and always have a pleasant experience plus find everything I need. The store is well stocked and food and other Items are neatly displayed. Sign up for their reward card you will get discount on food and other Items, plus you can get a discount off their gas at their pumps. I will always shop here for the reason that the staff here greet and help you with a friendly welcoming smile like old friends welcome to my house. read more

Like some of the other Gardena reviews I have written, this place has been a staple of the city since I can remember. I remember this store when it had an entirely different facade. Like when it had an entrance perpendicular to Redondo Beach Blvd and an entrance on the back side. As well as the video store that used to be where the Starbucks now lives and Missile Bowl to the right of it. I can remember the white interior and how cold it used to be in that store. I can also remember the produce section on the other side of where it stands now. The look now is very different, with wood everywhere and constant announcements over the loud speaker. Sort of reminds me of long ago when you would hear the Blue Light specials at Kmart. I have made friends with the Pharmacists as well as some of the cashiers. I've been having a craving for steak with garlic butter and after visiting food 4 less, I was sure VONS would have it after food 4 less left me disappointed. Sure enough, vons had the garlic butter. I left happy with my garlic butter but I left with something more. I left with a warm heart! As I was looking for the garlic butter, I went to the bakery to ask an associate for help. I was helped by a gentleman who was deaf and it brought a feeling of comfort and relief. My sister is deaf and I know just a few years ago how challenging it was people of the deaf community to find jobs. Knowing that VONS is a equal rights employer let's ME know where I should be spending my money going forward. Your store might to think about moving the "self serve fried chicken" behind the deli counter. I've twice seen customers think they're in Costco on a Saturday afternoon thinking it's food sample day. They're eating chicken while walking the store. I've even seen chicken bones on aisle shelf's (tacky and gross) The store would save money by weighing the chicken and by pricing and sealing the package and also avoid a possible health issue buy customers not using tongs. They had some renovations years ago so the store is usually well-organized and stocked. My only feedback about improvement is that they need to work on their wine selections. I tend to purchase 1L wine from other stores and their selections are limited. The other fuss would be that they need to expand their deli selection. Their soups are awesome but they never have many "warm" ones to choose from. Oh and their gas prices (with a club membership) are definitely better than a normal gas station! read more

I've been here a couple times now as it is close to work. I come to get fruit and veggies for the work week. Their fruit is pretty nasty - last time I was there, I was trying to get some granny smith apples. I spent about 5 minutes going through and looking at all of them and I could not find one decent one. They all had bruises and were discolored. I knew it was a ghetto location immediately because of the turnstiles. Also, there is no self checkout and the lines are always long and take forever because they only have 1 or 2 lanes open and people are just SLOW - cashiers and customers! I went into the grocery store for one item (a can of pinto beans) and ended up with about 15 items in addition! What a surprise the store was-bright, cheerful, and clean, clean, clean. Shelves were stocked neatly, and items easy to find. and, as always the bakery is superb. Vons in my experience has the best pastries, birthday cakes, etc and who doesn't like $5 Fridays. This is by far the most horrifying times in our country. The Corona Virus is killing 100's if people daily. The community is tirelessly working hard to accommodate those in need that can't do for them selves. I am a caregiver and needed to purchase toilet paper for 2 elderly patients. The saying a first impression is an lasting impression is so true....This grocery store experience was very upsetting and triggering. A first time visitor to this particular Vons I went in to get some snacks for my daughter and I after leaving the nearby Walgreens. I arrive inside the store, look around and I head to the chip aisle 1st. A gentleman (possibly management but I can't say for sure) I saw upon arrival was speaking with someone on another aisle, was all of a sudden standing next to me in the chip aisle "pretending" to look for chips as well. He literally stood next to me without moving up or down the aisle. That's when the discomfort starts to set in that this gentleman is trying to keep an eye on me. WHY? I ask myself. Finally he walks off without getting anything of course, so that's when I choose to walk away with my chips for purchase in hand because I didnt want someone trying to make me feel inferior to their work place BULLYING tactics. I head towards the back of the store and another worker approaches me asking "Are you looking for something"? Of course I'm looking for something I'm in the grocery store. I said. Then I told the employee what I wasn't looking for was to be followed around the store the whole time I was here and I didn't know RACIAL PROFILING still went on in grocery stores in 2023. The employee says "I know" and I walk off to continue looking for items in the store. From then on, EVERY turn EVERY aisle EVERY area I was in, included an employee with those yellow/orange worker vest following me around (a 40 something year old MOTHER/Veteran) until I reached the front of the store and stood in a line. There was even a worker who walked in front of me to the front of the store "assuming" I was going into the self checkout area until I went to a line with a cashier then he disappeared as well. I was so angry as I stood in line I just turned in a circle and gave every camera I saw the middle finger for the uncomfortable shopping experience I just encountered. I don't know what trauma this particular VONS has dealt with those people of color but what they chose to do to me 2/15/2023 was the hurtful reminder that discrimination is stronger then ever in 2023 man or woman. Sad but true. To VONS your store profiling of me was not a complete waste I WILL NEVER RETURN TO A VONS STORE EVER IN LIFE. Parking is at a strip mall i have never had a problem with finding parking. I have been coming to this particular location for years not. This store always has the freshest vegetables always so clean and organized. Meats and seafood are always fresh the perfect cuts. I happened to be in the area for work and was looking for a place to pick-up a little lunch while keeping it healthy. I figured I would be able to find something in Vons, I was wrong. This is possibly one of the dirtiest markets I have ever been in. I walked into this market and I immediately noticed that the inside of this market was set up like a fortress. There were turnstiles that only turn one way, a metal fence that surrounds the cashiers only allowing customers to exit via open register lanes. After I was able to find my way in I began to notice how dirty the floors were. The floor had a great deal of dust, footprints and scuff marks upon scuff marks. The scuff marks looked as if no one had broken out the mop in days if not weeks. I walked around and noticed a smell that just did not seem right. I noticed dust on the shelves and was disgusted I felt dirty and began to seek out the bathroom to wash my hands and get out of this place. When I walked in the doors of the bathroom I was honestly shocked at the how dirty it was. There was soap on the floor, unflushed toilets, graffiti on the sink & mirror, paper towels everywhere & garbage overflowing from the rubbish can. I cannot believe that a market that sells food is allowed to operate with conditions that I found at this location. I have been to third world markets that were cleaner than this one was on the day of my visit. I finally had enough and abandoned my search for lunch and began the fun experience of trying to get out of this place. As stated above this place because of location is set up like a fortress I found myself having to walk down a register lane that was occupied with people. I had to squeeze past people that were engaged in transactions with the cashiers and honestly felt uncomfortable. I never thought I would come across a market that was more in need of a wrecking ball than this location. There is zero with a capital 'Z' snowballs chance in you know where that I will ever come back here. Honestly if this was in the only market within miles I would break my 'forever' streak and finally break down and shop for food at 7/11. Literally got sick from eating the meat from the deli counter here. Went in at night and picked up some roast beef and sliced chicken. Should have known something was wrong when I noticed that the plastic wrap roll they use to wrap the meat was sitting on the ground and being rolled strait from the floor (so whatever is on the floor gets on the meat). I got a pound and went home and ate some, all of the sudden I notice these black spots all over and these holes. I dump out the bag and the roast beef is covered in rot/mold! Half the bag wasn't even red it was this nasty gray/brown color. The mold even ate holes through the meat...How can nobody who works there notice? I'm not going back to that nasty place again and I hope they shut it down. I walked into this store and was pleasantly surprised. Although I live about 2 miles away I had never entered this Vons location before and it was much nicer than Vons stores I have been to in fancy Los Angeles neighborhoods. I went about 10am on a Wednesday morning and it was nice and quiet ... there were plenty of shoppers but it seemed peaceful and all of the employees were very friendly and helpful. It looked so clean and welcoming, just what you want from a market! Anyhow - I found everything I wanted! I bought these amazingly juicy Asian Pears - which I usually get from my local farmer's market - but these were great if not better! & I got a pretty decent pre-made salad from their deli section. I was very impressed with all of their healthy options. I usually have to drive pretty far out of my neighborhood to get some of the organic, non-processed, strange, & fresh goodies that I like to eat. But they had lots of options for me! AND AS I WALKED PAST THE BAKERY AREA I HAD TO START SPEED WALKING BECAUSE THE SMELL OF THE FRESHLY BAKED GOODS WAS SOOOO TEMPTING! I could swear they used to talk up their produce like it was the best in the land... NO WAY... Its pretty sad when you keep saying "its way better at Food 4 Less". Anytime we come in here, no matter what time of day, no matter what day of week that produce department is a MESS. SOOO much ROTTING produce it is literally insane. What isnt rotting looks like they pick all the bad pieces out, or parts off and its shrunk down to nothing. There is ONE plus though, they do have some unique fruits you dont find anywhere else around like their dragon fruit. The other night it seemed like they were having an issue with their freezers, everything looked melted and re-frozen. OH and TONS of expired items!! Especially the dairy.. I felt like we were in the twilight zone last time I was there, everything I picked up was crap. We used to always shop here, I wont be coming back here. I shop here and have to say, reading some of the negative comments about the Pharmacy sounds more like the problems are with the customers. They work very hard and do everything they can to help you in the Pharmacy. The Pharmacy tech is one of the best I've come across. Compared to other Pharmacies. As for the rest of the store..... customer service is getting very poor and the checkers aren't as friendly compared to the Pharmacy personnel. Management at the store should really pay attention to the customers needs and cleanliness of the store. As for the service.... Be friendly and management... take care of the employees. I have a serious love/hate relationship with this store. I love using the Von's app and the Just For You pricing. 5 stars for this location because it has a gas station and I can use my rewards for discounts on gas. 4 stars for the staff as they are always friendly and helpful. 2 stars for the meat department. Maybe I am shopping on the wrong days but everything is picked over. 2 stars for the length of lines. Some days I'm in and out with a breeze and other times its 5 customers deep with fully packed carts. And 1 star for expired items! It never fails that the items I forget to check are the ones that have passed the 'sell or use by' date. I just don't get it...... they have a section for these type of items, but clearly they are not being checked regularly as I purchase something expired at least twice a month. read more

5/17/08 Update: The Vons Bakery is pretty decent. The french breads are fresh and flavorful. The sourdough breads are not half bad either. The baked breads here have nice texture with nice crusty surfaces, very nice. I've had good and poor service experiences from the pharmacy. Poor: When I tried to get prescription it was an ordeal for some reason. Bottom line, I couldn't get anything here (Something about my Dr or pharmacist has to authorize something; I was left confused, never heard of such thing from any pharmacist). I came here because my regular pharmacy was closed already and I needed to refill a medication before going on a trip overseas. The service was also not friendly, the attitude pissed me off....I mean the attitude was very poor. Good: There's this one guy there (I don't recall the name on the tag but has mustache I believe) that's always helpful. He helped me find an OTC medication without me asking and I observed the same guy helping others look for items numerous times on several visits to the store, what patience and professional attitude this person has (Keep up the nice work). read more

I cannot believe my experience today at the Vons grocery store in Gardena. 1at I went to get quality meat and was willing to pay the price for some Pork Chops, some mash potatoes, mac and cheese from deli section. When I got home to clean and season, the Pork Chops were spoiled. I went right back to the store and a cashier gave me a refund. I went back home to complete my Sunday dinner went to open the mashed potatoes and the date on the container said expires 9/4/20. Today is 9/13/20. I could not believe this and refused to make another trip right away. I made dinner less potatoes and decided to go back around 6pm and when I arrived the return rules changed in a few hours. I was told that I had to wait in the line that was very long. I mentioned that I did not go through this earlier and I have already stood in line. The store isn't really dirty, just old. I've been coming here for over 30 years. Compared to their sister store Albertsons, the prices seem more reasonable. I don't shop VONS often. This is probably my 4th time in like 6 years. Wow I know right. I normally shop Food4Less or Ralph's. I was really pleased yesterday when I went to VONS. I picked up a few things for lunch and dinner. It was so funny, when I was picking some vegetables the sprinklers came on and there was like a sound effects billboard that made thundering and lightning noises. I loved it, first time I've ever heard that at a grocery store. The store prices are a little pricey but if you can catch a sale and use the app you could be in business. The store was very clean and in order. The cashier(shucks I didn't get his name) gave excellent customer service. Keep up the good work VONS. I'm not too sure if I make this store my permanent place to shop when I do my major grocery shopping, but this could be my go to store when I am in a clutch. read more

I went to the bakery to buy a cake and just left. I was so appalled by the customer service of the bakery rep. First of all, no one was in the department for at least five minutes. The associate finally walks up and ignores us. Once she does finally speak to us after settling in, she was extremely rude. I asked her to write on a cake and apparently no one was there to do it. The dept was also disgustingly dirty. The gentleman who checked us out, Arturo, was very nice but I will unfortunately not be returning to this store for any cake needs. I wouldn't buy the produce here if you can avoid it. It's not fresh and if it looks fresh then most likely it doesn't taste good. I only buy other things such as almond milks, cereal, etc. that are organic. There is a very sweet security man who always greets you at the entrance. I think his name is Alberto. read more
