I immediately went to the chip/popcorn isle and no Cracker Jacks. Stephen was working in the isle and I asked him, just to confirm I hadn't overlooked them somehow. Three stars for a thoroughly average grocery store. Pretty average selection. Yes, they have all the aisles and all the things. I wasn't impressed with the quality of what they had on hand. But then again, two days before Christmas there were a lot of items that are sold out. So I had to settle for a second tier vanilla extract. At least the produce looked halfway decent, although definitely not great. There are reasonable prices on beer and liquor if you are willing to get their club membership. On more than one occasion I have had items missing from pick up orders. the stores procedure is to notify customer when item is out of stock and give the option to select a substitute or deny the item. That does not always happen. And they just charge you anyway. Tonight after several trips in one day to rectify an order I asked to speak with manager who was not helpful at all. She was clueless about how to apply refund for items. And said it's all on the "them" in the back. Of course "they" were not there anymore. Affordable for groceries shopping that you need in the house like food, trash bags, dish washing liquid, body wash, lotion,etc. It's a clean place and sometimes it's a lot of people shopping in the store and other times is not a lot depending on the time. I just did not like on what happened yesterday (03/10/25) at 6:27pm Pacific time. I bought a Dove body wash inside the store in the aisle where they blocked other side of the aisle and one cashier is there to make sure that you pay before leaving the aisle where it has the hand soap, lotion, body wash, deodorant, feminine napkins, panty liners, vitamins and over the counter medicines. After I paid for the body wash, I went and get the other stuff and I lined up at the front cashier to pay them. I did not realize later when I got home that the cashier double charged me for the Dove body wash. I lost the original receipt. The 2nd receipt I had was for the groceries I bought but the guy should not charge me for the Dove body wash because I already paid it. I show the proof on bank account showing 2 transactions at Ralph's but the lady manager told me that it doesn't show that it was Dove body wash. So lesson learned, I should make sure that I have 2 receipts with me before I leave that store so I can double check the receipt to make sure they don't overcharge me. read more

I work at a nonprofit in Hawthorne, today we had an appreciation party for our volunteers. Last Tuesday, I special ordered a cake online. It was a vanilla cake with white frosting, balloons, blue trim and the words "Thank You Volunteers." There was no option to choose a filling, but I noted to add a strawberry filling in the special requests section. I even called to confirm the cake on Thursday. The staff first at the bakery had to put me on hold for several minutes because they couldn't find the order. Once they found the order, I was able to confirm the special request for strawberry filling. The woman on the phone noted the extra price. When my coworker picked up the cake this morning, this was what we received. This gloopy, poorly written mess. It seriously looked like a five year old made it. There was also no filling. My coworker complained but there was no one able to fix it. What an absolute embarrassment. I don't recommend special ordering a cake from this location. read more

On several occasions shopping at this location I have found expired items still being sold on the shelves. I am not taking about expired by days but by weeks. Also most times when you go in and come out of the store you have solicitors bottle necking the entry way and partially blocking the door. People are either constantly asking for money here or just giving you the creeps. The security for the store is on her cell phone full time and has no idea what goes on half the time. The environment alone drives away customers and the management doesn't care. The store no longer limits how many people can be in the store so during the pandemic you have lots of people in a close space. read more

I didn't hear her say anything just gave me my receipt and she kept saying Yw And I said I didn't hear you say thank you is that what you meant. Then some younger girl was next to here saying dont talk to my mom like that that I'm to old to be talking back. Sheesh. I don't know why her and her mom the cashier had to start drama. I've never been so offended in my life. A hispanic female worker was standing next to my friend and I, as he was scanning our items in self check out. She was staring at him while he scanned his groceries. She was literally shoulder to shoulder. He didn't notice her,but I did because I was facing both of them. The crazy part was that when another customer behind me asked her for help, she ignored that customer and continued side eyeing my friend. When she finally walked away to help the other man, I got upset and told my friend that she stood on the side of him staring at him with disgust in her eyes. When we left, my friend told me that she's the one he spoke to last year about staring at him like he was going to steal. It made some sense now because I realized that she recognized him and just don't like him because they had words a year ago about how she was staring at him like he was going to steal. I dont appreciate being treated like a thief! We come there all the time. We shouldn't have to get dirty looks from an employee with a chip on her shoulder. It's a shame because I like this store because it's clean, and the ambiance is nice. This is one of the cleanest, best stocked, and best managed Ralph's in the city. The floors are clean enough to eat off of; there is always staff available to help and I never had to wait in a long line. The items on the shelf are always blocked, and organized; never cluttered or outdated. The prices are extremely reasonable and the selection and variety are huge. There is also a 24/7 donut shop on the premises, and tons of free parking. I get that this isn't the best area in the world; but I've never had a problem with anyone and I walk here alone often; the parking lot has very bright lights and the police station is a few blocks away! What else do you want, a bodyguard and a massage at the front door? This Ralph's is a shining example of what a friendly neighborhood grocery store is supposed to look like, and I will continue to shop here for years to come! read more

I went to Ralphs at 11873 S. Hawthorne Blvd to return some sodas. I chose this location because it was raining hard and this is the closest one to my house. I went up to the front desk and wasn't acknowledged by Arturo. I greeted him and asked to return my item. He asked for my item and receipt, and I handed them to him. He looked them over and then told me I had to wait in line and see a checker. I got in line and waited. The checker then took my item and receipt and went over to Arturo. They had some discussion and then the checker came back and told me I can't return the soda because it's not sold at this location. I found this to be odd and went back to Arturo and asked him to make a one time exception but he refused. He has no nametag that denotes if he's a supervisor or manager so I asked to speak to someone above him. He gets on the phone but he doesn't ask for Gabriel, the manager, to come down and speak to me. He just asks if the return can be done. Apparently Gabriel said no and he has no time to talk to me. I find it rude that Arturo didn't acknowledge me. It's inconvenient to be told to wait in line and then unable to return something I was told I could. It's also rude that Arturo didn't admit his mistake and apologize for making me wait in line to only then deny my return. It's ridiculous that I can't return soda with a retail value under $10 for which I presented my receipt. I'm not sure if Arturo really did call Gabriel but if he did I find it unprofessional to relay to a customer that you "don't have time to talk to them". He could have easily asked for my call back number and spoke to me later. Overall very disappointed with Hawthorne Ralphs. I expect more from them, especially when there are more choices than ever in the grocers and the ease of ordering from Amazon. I spoke to corporate and they apologized and told me the return should have been accepted. I encourage the Arturo and Gabriel to read their company's return policy. read more

Positive first: I've been coming to this Hawthorne Ralphs for almost 10 years. They've newly renovated the store with new flooring and lighting. Most of the items are in different places now so it took me some time to find what I was looking for. The store looked very clean and organized and the produce section fresh and everything was well-stocked throughout the store. The staff is always friendly BUT I had a very bad experience tonight... My son and I went to the 15 items or less line and the clerk looked in my cart and he started counting out loud 1,2,3,4 etc. and said "Go to the other line". I had 17. I miscounted. There was no one behind me. So I went to the other line and had to stand behind three people. It was completely uncalled for to be treated that way. Have a little compassion. Here I am with my child with sp. needs that wanted to "go". But instead I get kicked out of his line for 2 extra items and nobody behind us? Really? I guess that's what I get for being a loyal customer for 10 years. I always try to pay attention to the signs and go in the correct checkout line but it was an oversight. Now I don't feel like shopping there anymore. I just wanted to leave everything in my cart and walk out of the store and buy nothing. Well, It's a 4 Star Service and clean Inside with good stock, But the Location is a 3 Star. Not a huge place but very decently sized with pretty much all you really need. No open counter meat/seafood department. No pharmacy. They have added top shelves to all the Aisles so they have deff gotten rid of the under stocking issue. Manager and others there are very nice. Always in a good mood that I have experienced. The Self check out has had a software update so it is now much faster. But still the issue remains of trash outside. Homeless looming around and people/kids trying to sell you chocolate outside. Shopping carts need to be upgraded as well. Besides that, It's a Ralphs. Although I prefer the Ralphs on Redondo and Van Ness in Gardena (across from Target), because it's a lot cleaner (reflective of the community) and they always have what I need in stock. However, this Hawthrone Blvd location is a good alternate choice for a lot of groceries that invade my freezer. They don't have a good selection of my frozen entrees, since their freezer space has been cut short about a year ago. But I find a lot of what I normally buy. The floors may need remodeling. But this store does have ample parking (shared with 99 cent only, cvs). It has a gr8 self-check out. I'm always in and out, depending on my self-check out speed. FYI: People say ralphs is expensive. I would say that those people are not smart shoppers. Look at my posted receipt and tell me that ralphs is expensive again. I use ralphs club card, ralphs coupons that ralphs send me thru the mail, coupons in Sunday LA Times, and I buy stuff that is on sale. Even if you use your free club card and buy stuff that's on sale, you will save. Ralphs is cheaper than superior, albertsons, and its other Kroger company (Food4less). I get it's a minimum wage industry. I get that it's not in Beverly Hills. But the fact that a grocery store is consistent in stocking expired goods baffles me. Then I looked around and realized that sadly, all the consistencies in this store are negatives. Consistently expired goods (tonight I received a product 4 months expired) that would have made my wife and I sick. Consistently sketchy exterior, but I'm sure it's part of the plazas fault for allowing tent cities to pop up. Consistently dirty floors and shelving. Consistently melting plastic in to go containers (seriously melted plastic is not a condiment). So after a few years of consistently hoping things would get better, I've given up. This is Ralphs is just like any other ralphs location I'm not sure why the bad reviews. The inside of the store is always clean and kept up im a regular so i get a lot of hello's from the employees the managers are very friendly and always interact with my toddler. I have had people ask for change BUT COME ON THATS EVERYWHERE ITS NOT RALPHS FAULT DONT DOCK THEIR STAR BECAUSE OF THAT LMFAO! SOMETIMES the outside of the store could be a little more tidy but for the most part its clean and always stocked with the antibacterial wipes and baskets are always on both sides.
