I am so leery of going to this store even though I live two blocks away. I only go when absolutely necessary because of the customer service in the past. I have had a few negative experiences especially with the service deli and bakery employees. Well yesterday I went in and I saw the self serve bagels that are near the entrance. I wanted to buy a few and noticed there were no bags only the plastic wraps to pick them up. I asked a male employee from the bakery if he had any bags so I could purchase bagels. He quickly said no and continued working and ignored me. Really so disappointed and it really makes customers feel like we are bothering you. What happen to customer service. This isn't the first time the bakery employees lack customer service . I bought a few things and left . The cashiers are always nice. Its your deli/bakery employees could use some customer service basic training. A while back the deli lady told me she was busy when I asked for help. read more

I don't know if the entire Vons chain has staff like this and such a mess and disorganization as this location, but this particular store is just terrible. I've been driving there for a week specifically to buy farmer cheese, and every day they tell me, "We'll receive it today, come back tomorrow." Then the next day it's the same thing again: "We'll receive it today, come back tomorrow." Every single day no one knows where anything is, no one knows what products they carry or even which department something belongs to. It's complete chaos. Honestly, it's the worst experience possible -- never go there. It's a nightmare. I would really like to speak with their management, or better yet, have the manager fired. read more

It's Friday, Friday Gotta get down on Friday Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend... I came, I saw, I conquered the ice cream desire our household. It's also a plus when the kids nap on the way home. With the last Rite Aid in the area closed I had to find the Thrifty ice cream for the kiddos and after a quick Google search Vons carries it (virtual dance)! 4/5 Online/App I was going to buy online for pick up but needed at least $30 to avoid paying a fee so just walked in instead (get them steps in). Don't need that much ice cream in our home, or do we? Hmmm 5/5 Selection Didn't browse the aisle but everything looked fully stocked. Bakery items were decorated for Halloween as well as the pumpkins outside. Now it's time for all the Christmas decorations. 5/5 Parking There are restaurants and a pharmacy next to this location but never too many cars to find a spot. I will add that I have visited this specific store twice and I was impressed with the cleanness of the store and impressed by how well stocked this store was on both of my visits. Vons (Covina) is reliable. The location is very clean. The prices are affordable. And staff is enthusiastic and diligent. Whenever I reflect on Vons (Covina), I immediately connect it with affordable prices. I also appreciate how Vons (Covina) consistently attempts to better itself. Compared to the past, current Management works much harder towards offering much fresher options. However, Vons (Covina) will always have that looming shadow of Stater Bros down the street. Also, this location's stock is limited at times. For example, today, I observed an empty Signature Select Soup section. Concerning check-out, Vons (Covina) is fairly quick and efficient. Staff works hard. Regarding ambiance, Vons (Covina) is very welcoming and comfortable. Its counters, floors, and shelves are extremely clean. I appreciate the bright, clean scent. Also, the air-conditioner is strong, so the location is chill and well-ventilated. The decor is not very memorable, but it's simple and pleasant. My local super market has everything you need for your daily meals from produce, a hot deli, sandwiches, baked goods, dairy, liquor to poultry, seafood, marinated pork or beef. You will also find fresh bouquets of flowers, candies, wine and gift cards. I come here 2 to 3 times a week. If I was better organized, I would buy a week's worth of groceries at one time, but I don't want to, LOL. My mind thinks it's fresher if I buy and eat my groceries within 3 days. There's an option to order online and park in a designated spot to pick up, but I never have tried this service at this market. It seams totally convenient for those who need assistance or have limited time to shop. It's a good place to get many errands done in one visit. This review is to complain, I usually don't I just let it go but I can't stand it anymore. Every time I go to this vons I get screwed in some way and I either make it home and get gripped out by the wife for allowing myself to get screwed or if I catch it I have to go back to the cashier and get something fixed. And it's always in vons favor. Tonight I bought the buy 2 get 3 free cokes And there was another coupon that said if I buy any 12 pack coke product I would get a free body armor drink free great! So I get up to check out and the cashier says I cannot get the free drink unless I buy another 12 pack of Coke product. Their coupon says nothing about that never the less I tell her I do not want the drink. And she charges me for it anyway. Probably one of the most unprofessional Vons I have ever been to. Staff talk, and laugh at customers. They were laughing at a Customer who had used the scooter I was trying to put it back, unfortunately she backed it up and blocked herself in. But instead of helping her, they were talking about her where she couldn't hear and even chuckling. I didn't like that. Not only that, but they don't have any baskets, I had grabbed too many items to carry in my hands, I asked the staff if they had any baskets, instead of offering to get one for me she told me to check behind all the check stands. There were none behind all the check stands, there were none in the front. I mentioned that to her when I walked back and she told me I could get a cart from outside. She didn't offer to get the cart for me, I'm just saying maybe I'm just used to the Vons by my house. Because there's so much more helpful than these people. For the most part of the story is clean, but they could definitely use more checkers. They have a few check stands, no self checkouts, and only two checkers. read more

I purchased two days ago a veggie plate from one of the center grocery coolers and it had all rotten broccoli I ate two of them before I noticed it. It was not expired yet, but this store has had so many expired products rotten products, mishandled products. I can't trust it anymore and if I get sick I kept the veggie tray. There was also mold on the top of the broccoli . This is not a neighborhood store if they don't take care of their products for us to consume this has happened time and time again this is the first time I've written about it. I've never witnessed rotten produce so I didn't think I had to check, but I will not be shopping there anymore. read more

I like this location and the store has potential. The store should have a remodel like many of the stores in other cities around. Additionally the ice cream section seems to have bad freezers. There's ice all over the outside of the containers of some of the products. Also I'm not sure why they don't carry sorbet Haagen Dazs. I'd prefer to come here instead of Target. Also there's no organic fruit so you pretty much have to go to Sprouts or Target for that as well. I hope they improve this store. The produce sections need an overhaul. First time here. Needed a few items. Some of the items I needed were expired and still on the shelves. The Boathouse salad dressing that was in the refrigerator was expired by several days. I was glad I actually took a look at the expiration date. The egg containers had cracked eggs in them. I forgot to look at the expiration date at the store, but they expired one week after I purchased them. it seemed like they carried lots of items ready to expire. I was here on a Sunday and seemed like this location was not taken care of the way other locations are. I love Vons, so I was disappointed. The store seems to be very outdated and in need of a serious makeover. I won't be returning here. read more

Definitely affordable selection but terrible in terms of the lines for checkout. Last time I went, all their self checkout stations were closed and there were only two cashiers working. The lines were a whole grocery isle long, I was in line for 35 minutes. If I didn't have a whole cart full of groceries and know that there was no self checkout I would have just left the store. Ambiance-wise, eh, it's a grocery store. What do you expect right. Minimal selection of produce and meat, that's for sure. read more

I actually like this Vons location in Covina. I shopped here sometimes when I lived in Covina back in the days. There in such a convenient shopping center off of Badillo and Grand Avenue. Always plenty of parking. So I was recently here visiting my brother that still lives in the area. I brought some food for a gathering, and it was organized and clean here. Deli area is a little dead sometimes with not enough people working there. But its a good store. Never really had problems here. Nice to visit again. read more

The management at this location needs to step it up. I came by this afternoon at 5:30 pm to pick up some groceries and items for dinner. I arrived to find no carts in front of the store. Myself and a few other customers had to go back to the parking lot to get our carts. After going up and down the aisles to pick up my groceries, I headed to the deli area to pick up a rotisserie chicken. None available. The girl at the deli counter said they were making more and it would be another 20 minutes. I looked for some French bread, and because they have a sign guaranteeing hot French bread from 4- 7 pm, I thought there would be a plethora of bread like the other Vons stores I've been to. None available either. The guy at the bakery counter said he just put a batch in the oven and it won't be ready for a while. This is the first time I've ever been to a Vons/Albertsons/Safeway where they don't have dinner items available during prime time dinner time! At checkout the person assisting me was a Supervisor. I mentioned to him about not having any bread available (because of the guarantee) and his response was, "Oh you just missed it. We try to have the bread ready on the hour." Umm....so I have to time my visits now? The store itself is pretty well stocked, and the employees are friendly. I just think the management at this location needs to learn from other Vons locations on how to operate and manage their store. read more

I like this location bcuz of the proximity but I come on Fridays for the Friday deals. By the time I get here it's afternoon and the Friday deals are usually almost if not completely sold out. The store is always clean and the staff friendly. The 2 things that need improvement are the quantities available for the deals that are advertised and the amount of checkout lanes open. The lines are super long due to only having 2 checkout lines open. The cashier has the scan Ll the items and then bag everything since they don't have enough people to do each separately. I feel bad for them bcuz it can be totally overwhelming for them. They try their best but it's alot. My recommendation to this Vons location is to try to staff up during peak grocery hours and have enough of the items on your Friday deals page. Other than that, I like this location. If not for these things, I would've given 5 stars - I subtracted 1 star for each. read more

They have decent prices if you get what's on sale and use the app. Other than that, prices are pretty steep when you're comparing to the other grocery stores in the neighborhood. They have a great selection of flowers. A decent selection of beer. Their soup always seems to run low. Waiting at deli about 5 minutes guy finally comes out helps the guy who just walked up, looks at me and walks back to back to apparently conitue cleaning in the back. I assume he will send someone out, I was wrong. I go the registers and ask for a Manager type person and bagger points to lady at register 5. She looks and me and says NOPE NOT ME. Hi-ya! This location is reasonable in the sense that's it's close by and no other real options. The layout of this location is weird...it's just not convenient in the sense that if you've never been there before it feels like there is no methodology to where things are located. The frozen foods are in the center of the store nowhere near cold drinks and alcohol cold and room temperature is in another. However the morning pastries and employees seem nice. Unfortunately only one cashier for a longer line this morning, but it went fairly fast. Prices are in the higher side for what you get, but that's kinda what happens when they're the only immediate grocery store besides the adjoining Walgreens. read more

*Review for the bakery only* Came here for my usual grocery trip. I've been planning on going to an official cake store for my son's karate theme cake. Since I'm Vons, why not ask their bakery? Save some money. After going through their catalog of cake themes, I took a chance and asked if they can make the cake on this picture I had saved. Looking at the cakes on display, I was expecting a hard 'no' being that the design I had, though simple, wasn't usually a style a grocery bakery can do. One of the bakers was brought over to me so we can talk about what I wanted, I showed her the picture, she knew what it would take to design the cake, and I was actually surprised to hear her say that she can do it. Well, sh*t! I'm getting the cake here then! I suspected the cake design was beyond their capabilities, so I made adjustments to the design to try and make it simpler. I was given a receipt saying a red velvet karate theme cake will be ready on the day at 9am (I said we needed it by 11, she said she'll put down 9 so it'll be ready). Placed my order over 3 weeks in advance. Day of the party came. We came to Vons first, at 11am, to pick up our cake. A clerk said the cake wasn't ready, give them 20 min. Fine. We pick up the party food and came back, took about 45 min, still not ready! The baker I originally spoke to came out to ask if I had a pic of the cake, so I run to the car to get my phone, then I still waited around for 10 min for her to finish. My hubs ended up taking the cake while I waited in the car cuz I was too upset to look at the final result cuz I knew it was gonna be sh*t. We left the grocery store a little over 12 noon, took us 15 min to arrive to our party destination for a party that was supposed to start at 12:30pm. A couple of guests arrived at the party place before us, and we still had to set up! FML! I didn't have high hopes for the look of the cake already so there goes that. Cake cutting came, and we got a chocolate cake instead of red velvet! WTF?!? Absolutely no effort was put in to even making the cake we originally ordered! I've bought some stupid things in my life but this is up there for the worst $22 I've ever spent. I guess I expected too much. My hubs and I were complaining to each other about cake-gate on our way home after the party, then our bday boy from the back seat chimes in saying "but everyone loved the cake!". We had to explain why we were so unsatisfied, that when you pay for something that you were told would be a certain quality, it's what you expect to get. But leave it up to the 6-year-old to put things into perspective. I would've rather had them tell me 'no', that they couldn't make that cake with that design so I can move on and just go to an actual cake store than say yes and get what we got. I could've just bought one of their cakes on display, those ones look like they made an effort into making. Learned my lesson - unless you point out a design on their catalog, just splurge and go to an actual cake store for personalized cake designs. Update: Night manager Dan gave us our refund. Moved to Covina two years ago and this is our regular grocery store. Since this isn't the first time I've discovered expired deli meat on the shelves I've decided to post this review so improvements can be made to remove expired products from the shelves in a timely manner. Just an FYI the photos I've posted had more than one package that have expired, so it isn't a 'There was only one expired box left' scenario. A few months back I even saw a deli meat that was three month past expiration date. In both cases (today and a few months back) I've notified employees to remove these products immediately. Let's see if more diligence can be followed from now on. I'll still shop here - great prices and service - just have to do the extra step of looking at expiration dates... read more
