The batter was very crunchy and texture and flavor was good. However, service was pretty slow even though we were some of the only customers there at the time. The owner here has definitely changed. It's been a while since I ordered chicken, I was surprised because it was so different from before. I ordered chicken, yang-nyum chicken, and tteokbokki, but in the past, it was delicious because it matched the sauce well, and I don't think it smells because the former owner cleaned the chicken well and fried it with clean oil, but yesterday it was dark brown and smelled like old oil, so I'll eat two wings and throw the rest away. The radish pickles that came out on the side together were mushy and I couldn't tell if they were pickles or not. And I couldn't eat tteokbokki because it was hard, and the sauce was dry. My family really love Vons CK, but I left a real review honestly, and I hope you understand because I'm leaving it in the hope that Vons chicken will be better. I have to go to another branch now. I can't believe I haven't written about this place yet. RUNNNN don't walk; this chicken is hot, fresh, crispy, and delicious! Vons is a smaller franchise/chain. There are other locations in the bay area but I am SO happy this one is near my house. On the lazy days we order from DoorDash and the chicken is always still hot and fresh by the time it reaches our house. They do a good job of venting it and making sure it's not going to get soggy. I love their all of their flavors of fried chicken. I usually go for the crunch fried chicken or the crispy fried chicken and you can make it spicy or mild. If you're expecting the chicken to be heavily sauced, it's not. They lightly sauce it so it is still crispy. The chicken pieces are decently sized and each comes with pink radish and coleslaw. The pink radish and coleslaw are ok but nothing too special. We also order the kimchi fried rice. It's a smaller portion but flavorful and spicy. We usually have to order two if it's a larger group. We also love their onion rings and sweet potato fries. I don't really recommend their Tteokbokki. It has an odd cinnamon taste to it and the portions are small and nothing special. The parking lot is huge and we've never had an issue finding parking while picking up. read more

During the pandemic, I'm just sick and tired of cooking and ordering from the same handful of places so decided to Yelp around for something new. My household isn't too big on deep fried food, but once in a while when we have it, it's always chicken wings! Along came Von's Chicken. After extensive reading on reviews and looking at photos to see which flavors of wings to order, opted for Yangnyum, Crispy Garlic, and Soy sauce and Vinegar. I couldn't tell exactly what Yangnyum would taste like, but a lot of reviewers says it's good. It's somewhat hard to describe. Sweet, slight tang if I recall correctly, and a hint of chili pepper. Soy sauce and Vinegar reminds me of subtle Filipino adobo, less pungent - more soy than vinegar. Crispy Garlic was the best of all 3 flavors. Perfect amount of garlic flavoring on top of the fresh, crispy chicken. Ordered all 3 flavors with wings and drumsticks which will cost you an additional dollar each. Not much to sides. The coleslaw and pickled radishes were OK. Overall, not bad. Will definitely be back to try other flavors. But Crispy Garlic is a definite must have! read more

I'm so impressed by Vons Korean chicken. I was craving it from watching Crash Landing on You. They are a small business in Castro Valley, and they have the best service! During this COVID-19 shutdown we wanted to support local small businesses, and I found this one on yelp. They completed our huge order in 15 minutes and we were greeted with great service. They gave me A LOT of extra daikon when I requested it. You can't get alcohol to-go yet because they just got their alcohol license and they don't have beer there right now.
