my husband and I have had our automobiles serviced by Volz Bros since I moved up here in 1986 when they were "really Volz Bros". Always happy with their work & pricing! I'm now 88 yrs old and going to set up an appt for my 2013 Honda Fit. Chances are it will be the last & final as I don't drive much anymore. read more

After going to Volz for maybe 15 years these words come to mind- honesty, skill and trust. When I take my car into Volz and hand over the key I have complete trust in everything they will do. I have never been disappointed. I can always trust that they will be completely honest with me, never push work that is unnecessary and do the same excellent job that they would do on their own cars. Knowing that brings me peace of mind. I have never had all of that with any other auto shop so I won't go anywhere else. I highly recommend Volz to anyone who requires that level of trust read more

I've been a client of Volz Bros. for more than 20 years...and that alone should tell you something! They are the fairest, most skilled, friendliest auto mechanic shop I've ever used, no matter where I lived. They've always treated me with the utmost courtesy, and I truly count on them to advise me of any issues...,and to FIX THEM! I could recommend them more highly! read more

I'm so sorry but I just called to ask for a quote and the tone/attitude from the front desk is not something I want to encounter when looking for a reliable shop to fix my vehicle. The front desk is the first impression of the shop when calling over the phone , unfortunately it was enough for me to not move forward with this company. read more

My breaks were fixed in 3business hours and they also checked and replaced my windshield wipers. 10/10 recommend. They are fast, very responsive, fairly priced and friendly. Plus who doesn't love a good local family owned biz. read more

I was very happy with my first visit, they were able to fix my car quickly. I will definitely continue to take my car here in the future.

My husband and I have taken our cars to Volz Brothers for 15 years. Volz Bros isn't just an automotive shop - it is an event. John Volz, his son and the entire team are amazing, generous, fun, interesting and beyond helpful. Their contributions to Nevada County charities shows their true character. Our cars have never been in better hands. My husband passed away recently and John and team showed me a kindness that will live in my heart forever. Thank you Volz Brothers - you make the world a better place. read more

We have brought our vehicles to Volz bros for many, many years. Several generations of vehicles and always we have had great service. The quality of work is excellent and they are timely and communicate with us about status of repairs and service. read more

I received a warm friendly greeting upon my arrival and I felt they gave good attention to my explanation of the problem. They told me their completion time could be about two weeks as they were booked up. I asked if they could better that time and was told they would try and would have an estimator call with a price and completion date. 15 minutes later I had a call from the estimator with a price of $800 to replace the alternator and it would possibly be completed within two days; because I needed the car, I told him to go ahead. I researched the internet for the cost of an alternator for my make and year of car and found several ranging from $150 to $650. The lesser costs were for after market alternators and the most expensive, an original equipment model. This left a question in my mind, what was the price of the alternator he had quoted me? The next day, I was told the car was done and ready to be picked up. Upon reviewing the statement, I found they had installed an OEM alternator costing $650 (gold plated and diamond studded).... My question to them was, why wasn't I given an opportunity to choose an after market alternator? Answer, they wouldn''t warrant an after market alternator. This decision should be left to the customer. They did a fine job on the car including vacuuming the interior. read more

After many years of living here in the area I finally discovered Volz! They IMMEDIATELY and expertly diagnosed several problems with my truck that other mechanics had either overlooked or shrugged off . This truck is a business and personal vehicle that I depend on daily. My recent second appointment with Volz was as much of a revelation as the first. The reception folks are super efficient and polite even under pressure and they get it done! You have to trust your auto service place, and we're well on the way there. read more

Lucky me, I found Volz Bros. within the first few years of living here, and never will I leave them. Their integrity, care, heart, professionalism, honesty and love for their community his unrivaled. For over 20 years they have taken care of my cars and most important, of me. They don't stop at mechanics. read more

Volz has been consistently professional and personally attentive in the three years we have been taking our Subarus there--as well as flexible and generous with the time they have given to us. They're excellent car mechanics, but they're a lot more than that--they care about listening and making sure you are ok with what they are doing. read more

The wonderful folk at Volz Bros have been servicing my Subarus for over 10 years. They are friendly and knowledgable. They give honest opinions/information on questions I've had about fixing my car and when it's time to buy a new one. The "Johns" always great me when I come in and would give my dog cookies when I brought him with me. I trust their expertise and knowledge. All of my family members who live in the area use and trust Volz Bros to work on their cars. Highly recommended. read more

Booz Bros has been our long time family mechanic's shop and although no one necessarily enjoys taking their vehicle to a mechanic, I know that when I do have to bring it in, I won't be charged for repairs or parts I don't need, and I will always be able to get an appointment quickly. I will never take my car anywhere else! read more

Always a great, affordable, professional experience at Volz Bros. Their staff has kept all of our family's cars running safely over the past 20-years, in a timely manner w/o a glitch. Wonderful family-owned business to work with. read more

I asked them if they would work on my truck, it's American though as they seemed to only work on imports. I was desperate as my regular mechanic was out of his shop for a while, and my truck had serious issues and it's my only vehicle. They told me they don't work on mine and referred me to another shop. Amazing. I've been going to the storage place which is right next door, only to see American trucks and cars, even one exactly like my truck, in their parking lot over the weeks since. It must be nice to be able to pick and choose the customers they want to take money from. I just don't see all the positive reviews for them, but hey, why would they care about me if their business is so good? read more

Great mechanics shop! My wife and I have been long time customers and have always been treated right. Highly recommend.

Volz has worked in our cars for many years! Our 1998 Subaru has ONLY been worked on here! Still running! Our 2016 Subaru Impreza has been kept up to date HERE, since we purchased. Our 2001 Toyota Tacoma has been running well, because of Volz for over a decade. We have tried many mechanics before this. Volz Brothers checks every detail & communicates very well with my husband & with me. We leave with a carefully, thoroughly written copy of all work done. Best in the west, do take your vehicles to THIS mechanic & they will keep great care. read more

John and the rest of the staff have always handled whatever problems I've had in a straightforward professional manner. In this day and age it's reassuring to find such a trustworthy and efficient group to handle your cars problems - whatever they may be. read more

I had been putting off needed repair on my 2007 Toyota Rav 4 because the dealer had given me such a huge estimate. I finally got around to bringing my car into Volz Bros and they were able to better diagnose the problem, take care of a few other minor issues (headlights and windshield wipers) for a lot less than the original dealer cost. Also, they were quick, communicative, and kind. Really a great experience. read more

Excellent service. I mixed up appointment date, but they worked me in (another customer canceled just prior to my showing up). Much appreciated. Excellent customer service. read more

This rating is 5 stars plus. Add some gold and silver stars. Volz Brothers is probably the single best business I have ever used in my life. I can't write a glowing enough review. After living a little over half my life in Grass Valley, since 1988, I have used far more businesses here than I can remember. See my other reviews for the best home contractor businesses in this area. In addition to being completely competent and professional, this family is also unbelievably kind and generous, not to mention totally honest. If working on your car means sending good money after bad, they will let you know when it is time to replace what you have with something else. I have other car mechanics I use for European cars (BMW), and they would never tell me, "You should consider replacing that car, we can do all that work but it won't be worth it in the long run, the condition of the car doesn't warrant that large an infusion of money." A wicked sense of humor rounds out this amazing package. I consider the entire family my friends, even though we have never done anything socially outside of a handful of texts. We've never actually spent time together away from their place of business. I just love them completely. read more

I had a dying Subaru. It was having a heat stroke every day since I arrived early July. Bad news was I bought it off a lot at Rose Toyota in San Diego. 6 weeks ago. I had taken it for testing to two other locations here. Each charged me to test it. But after buying a product at a parts store I was referred to Volz. Ever walk in a place & feel the honesty? John smelled the car odor before diagnosing. His son tested it. And gave me the sad verdict. It was so unsafe, it could stop on the freeway. This did not happen overnight. The test showed code blue. John did not charge me, did not try to repair it either. Between the motor & the gasket, you'll pay more to fix it than the car is worth. Now, that is an honest man. He is active in community music, the staff exudes kindness. I will trust Volz with my next car. read more

Volz Bros is the best in Nevada County. We have been customers for years. Our three cars have always been reliably serviced. This is a trustworthy company...the best in the business. Reasonably priced. Never anything unexpected. Their preventative maintenance is excellent. I feel safe on the road, well taken care of. They are very friendly and easy to do business with; well known for giving to the community. Give them a call. You won't be disappointed. read more

I don't even know where to begin! Such a great experience at Volz Bros. I've gone to other local mechanics in the area, not really knowing what to expect and still always left uncertain of what was really done with my car. Not only did they find the issues, they showed me what was wrong and what they'll do to fix it. My car is older, and has 222,000+ miles on it, and I feel like I can tell if something doesn't seem right. It has felt 'off' for quite some time, and have tried to explain it to my last mechanic but they didn't seem concerned. Today Volz bros fixed the issue, found other issues that were either missed or done incorrectly, and totally did things that weren't even asked. I am so beyond thankful, and even more excited that I have a trustworthy mechanic!! I definitely will be coming back and telling everyone to bring their vehicles there! Thank you!!! read more

My 2005 Ford Expedition with 260K miles broke down in Grass Valley. I used to live there and was a Volz Bros customer in the past. So I had the tow truck driver take me there. It was Sunday. I left my keys and a note. On Monday, John called. He says, "The Expedition is dead. Something went wrong with the engine. No compression. Not worth fixing. $8000 to replace engine. You have 1 day to get it out of here. I suggest you tow it to the wreaking yard." I offered to pay for the inspection, but was not charged. I remove the car back to my place in Reno. My daughter and I did some light troubleshooting and we discovered that the flex plate (AKA flywheel) had failed. The engine and transmission were fine. $800 latter, the Expedition is back on the road! John! Please be more thorough in your investigations! All we had to do was remove the inspection plate (2 bolts) and look! Folks, be careful when John says it's not worth fixing. It may be that HE does not want to fix it. Get a second opinion before you give up on your car. read more

Volz Automotive - Center twisted out. Held in place by torque converter. - Auto Repair Near Me - Grass Valley, California

If I could give them 6 stars I would! I have been meaning to write this review for sometime but life got away with me. These guys saved my day! I was traveling from Truckee to Chico and while on the 20 my alternator belt slipped. I limped into the Bubba's Bagels parking lot with no clue of what was wrong. I called a friend in Chico who immediately started researching mechanics in Grass Valley (since I don't have connections in Grass Valley). She called around and since I have a Subaru outback she called Volz first. When she got back to me she felt fully confidant that I take my Outback to them. The tow truck driver agreed when he arrived, telling me they were honest and far better than where my roadside assistance suggested. When I arrived they greeted me with a smile and had such compassion for my situation. The repair would take about 4 hours and I was stranded. So they gave me a gift card and a ride down the road to the local bakery/coffee shop. I had a pleasant time shopping and sipping delicious coffee thanks to them. My car was done early and has been running great ever since. They did not try to doop me on extra repairs, they simply identified the issue, got me the part (super fast!), fixed my car and got me back on the road. I am so grateful for them and highly recommend their work, They know their Subaru's and it shows. You pay for what you get and these guys are quality! Adele- read more

There's a reason these guys have a five-star rating. Not only are they best-in-class mechanics, but they also treat their customers like family--no B.S., honest advice, and responsive service. I was referred to Volz Bros by someone who was extremely pleased with them, and I ended up working with John long-distance (I'm in the Bay Area) to solve my car problems. I don't know how cars work and I've been taken advantage of before, but never fear: you're in great hands here! I can't thank you enough, John. You saved me from so much stress! read more

These guys are the best. We have taken our Hondas here since we moved to the area several years ago. They are completely honest and will tell you if they do not think something is worth fixing. Their work has always been reliable. I always recommend them to my friends with Hondas, Toyotas, or Subarus. If you look at my other reviews, you will see that I rarely give 5 stars, so when I do, it means something. Volz Bros deserve all 5. As a plus, they also give back to the community. read more

What a great shop, great staff, and great service. John and John Jr. Are both awesome, incredibly honest, and easy to work with. This is the first time in my life I feel completely at ease when taking my car to the mechanic. John Jr and John Sr, and the rest of the Volz Bros team, have taken amazing care of me and my beloved Subaru. I moved into the area recently and within about a month realized I was looking at some major repairs that I could no longer ignore. I researched and found Volz with their all 5 star rating. I joked, they must "off" any customers that are unhappy with them. The truth is, they provide amazing service and high quality work and work to ensure that every customer is happy and every car is well cared for. I take every opportunity locally to recommend them and promote them because I find it so rare to find this level of service and quality workmanship. As a woman who knows precious little about vehicle maintenance it is such a blessing to find a place like Volz where I trust their diagnosis and their work and know that they will work with me to discern what absolutely must be done and what can wait until the funds are more readily available. The times I've found myself waiting in the lobby, which is decorated with local art and other evidence of their constant support of local endeavors, I find that everyone else waiting feels the same sense of trust and loyalty and I often find people who have loyally supported them for 20 years or more. If you've had it with wondering if you're being taken for a ride by your mechanic take your business to Volz and enjoy that sense of relief! Thanks guys! read more
