I stopped by today to get a vanilla latte, I've been by here before but have never stopped. Terry explained to me that they used real Belgium dark and white chocolate for their flavoring unlike the chains that just use a syrup. I tasted my drink and it was really good. He then asked me if I'd like to try a waffle and of course I said yes. He explained that it was made by a traditional Liege dough imported from Belgium. He added some strawberries, powdered sugar, Nutella sauce and a taste of cookie butter. As I ate it, it was amazing. Not like a conventional waffle but a whole lot better. When I first got there, there was one person waiting outside ( they don't really have a walk up window, best to drive through) but here he was outside waiting. Two cars in drive through and the operator ( Lisa I think) came outside and hand delivered his waffle and coffee. And thanked him for stopping by. She said hello to me and let me know that I was right after the waiting car. She asked me how my morning was going and took my order. We talked about the awesome espresso machine so I ordered a basic waffle with powered sugar and an espresso. They were both better then expected. This place has totally destroyed my carb free diet. Have had Volkswaffles a number of times now. At the mid-town farmers market and also when the company I work for hired them for a veterans day recognition. The waffles here are AMAZING. We took some family visiting from out of town and they said it was the best waffle they'd ever had. Can't go wrong with nutella and fresh strawberries. So good. I had given Volkswaffle over $400 dollars for start up cost for an event that never happened. $5 for a waffle...$5 for a damn WAFFLE! I don't know much about waffles, but that waffle isn't worth $5. For $5 you get a small waffle sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar. For $6-7, you can pile extra fixins on it. I thought Belgian waffles were supposed to be light and airy, but the waffle was neither. It's pretty dense with a crispy outside. And maybe it was because we tried it at one of the SactoMoFo events, but they pre-cooked the waffles and placed them back on the waffle griddle to reheat it to serve faster. I really hate to give them just 4 stars because their waffles are so dang good. However, for the price and quality of toppings I removed a star. Yes, this was one of the most sweet delicious waffles I've enjoyed; but for 7.50 the bitter strawberries, melted whipped cream, freezer burnt ice cream, and tiniest drizzle of not nutella (its definitely chocolate syrup) is so not worth it. If you do get to enjoy Volks be minimalist, because the works toppings just get in the way. read more
