Voertman's helped me to manage paying for my education at University of North Texas; the year was 1981, and I had just graduated from Denton High School in May of that year; I graduated with honors from Denton High School and started college the following September and graduated from UNT in 1985. I then actually applied for the job of Police Officer for our local police department, and was interviewed by a sergeant in the living room of our Roberts St. house, where I grew up with my three sisters and brother Scott, who was a very good French Horn player who went to the world famous and notorious North Texas State University, where he honed his musical performance skills to the apex playing in the Washington, D.C. based National Symphony Orchestra; his pastor wife, Leslie playing alongside. The National Symphony Orchestra is simply the best representative for these United States on the performance stage, and they share a place in my heart, because I actually was blessed with the sacred fortune of joining the orchestra in St. Petersburg, and Moscow in the year 1990. Students of history will remember that the Berlin Wall came crash down, and I was blessed with fortune of witnessing history in the moment of finality and sincere graceful end. Take it from someone who actually stood in freezing snow, in Budapest then the former Soviet Union, now basically retired and resting. Give Caesar what is Caesar's, and dare enough to turn over the evil tax collectors's tables; Jesus Christ saved us all with His blood shed on the cross at Calvary; I am blessed with a short enough memory to fill in the blanks of my rough and tumble daily routines, all of which are currently being stress tested, found to be safe and robust and currently found to be lacking in some ways, including the nebulous and vital ways. Remember, one cannot "study" for a typical physician ordered stress test, unless you consider the very logical process of changing our dietary habits. I haven't be in here for almost a decade! The whole format of the store has changed since the last time I visited. The walls look almost bare and there isn't a section that has various knick-knacks or small pieces of art anymore on the Hickory-facing side. There's something I kind of miss about having to hunt around for the books that I needed, but I like that I can just tell someone what I need and someone will go and find my books for me. I originally ordered books online, which were back-ordered and not available until the middle of February. Luckily Voertman's had the books in stock (cheaper than online) and allowed me to get my reading done and my homework turned in on time! When I walked in someone greeted me, asked what class/section I was in and took down my name. They went to grab my books, brought them to the register and the whole process was done within 5 minutes. You have the option of renting your books (which I did) or buying them. A sticker was placed on the book to remind me of my return date. I was told if I decide to buy the books at the end of the semester that I'd only have to pay the difference from the rental fee that I already paid. This is definitely a lot more convenient than having to box my books up and ship them back, like I've had to do in the past. The old store encouraged you to walk around the store and look at various UNT gear, toys and non-school related books - which is what I miss and why I knocked off a star. I do really like that they've streamlined the book buying/renting process by allowing me to order online and pick up in store or walk in and be done in a short amount of time. DON'T BUY ACCESS CODES HERE! I bought 2 of them for $246, and when I tried to put one in, it didn't work. This led me to finding out that both books were $30 cheaper if you buy them directly from McGrawHill or Engage, so I could've saved $60! I don't know if normal textbooks have similar markups but I'd buy them somewhere else if I were you. read more

I love this place. It has a great art department that has almost everything I need for my art classes. It's a bit more expensive than some other places when it comes to art supplies, but they always have what I need when I'm in a pinch and it's really close to campus. As for renting or buying school books, it's the best place to go near the university. The books are cheaper and in great condition. Also, when I had an issue with a book coming in this last semester they worked with me to make sure I got an electronic copy when their supplier stopped sending the physical copies in. The staff is wonderful and friendly and they actually know where things are in the store and are a great help, especially the art department employees. I can't tell you how many times I had no idea where something was and they pulled it out as if from thin air. read more

DON'T BUY EBOOKS FROM HERE Tip for any student reading this: buy your ebook online, not through Voertmans. Usually the ebook host will give you a refund if you need it. PLUS my ebook was the exact same price down to the cent on the website, but I also would've gotten a refund. Trust me!- from a senior. I got an ebook for a class but didn't need it anymore. Never used it or the access code. I call and ask can I return it and they say yes. So I drive 37 minutes out to Denton, and they tell me I can't return it for a refund because the access code was used, and that this happened to another girl too. They told me to contact the website the ebook is hosted on. Well, I did and they said the access code has never been redeemed. So I call Voertman's again and ask to speak to a manager. The person on the other end asks for my name and phone number and says I'll get a call back. I don't. At the end of the day, I was entitled to a refund, and your customer service sucks. read more

I rented several books and bought one as new online, I picked up my books, get home and unpack them, and the one I paid full price to buy new is used, has several stains and smells like cat piss. It was so pungent I could smell the book through the plastic wrap and the bag it was in. I would have rather just waited for them to restock the new copies instead of them selling me a biohazard for full price. read more

don't go here unless you live in Denton or close by. I paid for a rented book to be shipped to me and realized that I didn't need it anymore. I called and emailed and no one ever answers. I went up there myself and she told me my refund would be given to me but after a few days it wasn't. The school semester is over and they charged me for the rented book even though I "cancelled" it. Voertman's continuously hooks it up when it comes to text books, AND all of your North Texas swag. I've come to Voretman's for a couple of years now, and never have I been let down. Sure, books can be expensive to buy or even rent, but at least Voertman's has the books you need! I'm not much of an art student, because that isn't my major...but Voertman's has what looks to be a solid inventory of art supplies. Hell if you need to refill your E-cig, they can do that too! For a business that's primarily run by college students, Voertman's keeps it cool under pressure. Even at the beginning of the semester, when you can see a mess of people walking in and out, all the way from Crooked Crust. Voertman's is a good place to go for gifts/decor type things...... My main complaint with them is how unorganized they are. Last semester and once again this semester they had incorrect professors labeled for textbooks (I tripled checked this just to make sure nothing had changed in the system)/incorrect textbooks for classes/or just ridiculously priced books. I bought a used book and was charged the "new" price for it which is frustrating and they didn't have the "rent" price located on some of their rental books and it took forever to look it up. This place is full of employees who just want to make money for themselves. I called a day before and asked if I could sell my book back. I told her the book and she said to come in an she could give me a little for it because of the edition. So I come in today and I tell this guy I have a book to sell. He smiles, clicks enter button on a computer that wasn't on and says, "oh, it's probably too old so try somewhere else." I'm sad because he didn't even look. He just didn't want to be bothered with me. To add insult to injury, he asked me to put it in an empty donation box. I figured they'd just sell my book if I did that, so I left with my book. I stopped coming here because of dirty bathrooms and poor customer service. After a year, I thought things would be different, but I was wrong. read more

If you're a new art student at UNT make sure you come through the entrance close to campus and not through the parking lot or you'll get screwed. As the other reviews have noted, it's a good idea to search the web for your textbooks instead of buying them here. Your bill will be outrageous and you'll get very little when you try to sell them back at the end of the semester. But they have lots of decent UNT spirit shit, if that's what you're into. I'm not. And I'm not into the crazy crowds that occur at the beginning and end of the semester. Seriously felt like cattle, and that's never a good thing. read more

Would put 0 if i could. My card has been charged over 10 times now from here. I've called, and been hung up on, and emailed a few times with no response. I have tried asking if i have a remaining balance or if i can get a heads up when my card will be charged. I purchased rented 7 books and every week there is a new charge. This place is a local treasure! If you can't find the books or supplies you're looking for, don't hate on Voertman's: go to the campus bookstore in the Union or HMS down the street. However, if you're looking for a quirky, last-minute gift for a friend, a North Texas T-shirt before a home game, or a card to thank a professor for giving your grade a curve at the end of the semester, this is THE place to go. No waiting for the USPS to deliver a package, and you don't have to feel like a chump waiting in line at CVS or Wal*Mart. The retro feel of the building reminds me of being a kid in the late '70s/early '80s, and I'm glad it's been kept up and maintained. I ordered books here for my summer classes. My order was placed on May 25 and was hoping to receive my books by or the week of June 4 when classes started. It's now June 4 and I call to ask for a status (as they have not been shipped). The woman informed me that my books were somehow put down as "for pick up" even though I PAYED the $5 shipping fee. She told me that they could be shipped out in a couple of days..... SERIOUSLY?!?!? I have assignments due next Monday!!! She then said it would be better for me to just pick them up. Im doing online classes for a reason I do not live in Denton. She didn't even offer to refund me the shipping fee or do an expedited shipping because THEY MESSED UP my order!!! So, I go to the UNT Bookstore lugging a huge bag of my textbooks that I no longer need, to the textbook buyback event. I bring in 4 textbooks that I paid about $180 for just a few months prior. They offer me... wait for it... $14. YES. A friend of mine suggests I go to Voertman's. Even though I did not want to walk clear across campus with these books without a guarantee I'll get anything more, I decided to head on over to Voertman's. When I arrived in Denton with my wife cause of hurricane Katrina, after losing all of my art supplies (I'm a professional painter) I was lost. The manager at Voertmanns heard of my predicament and donated a $300 shopping day to me. I was so touched, it really helped me to get my feet back under me. I still shop there and they folks have helped me over the years to get items I need. Their selection is a bit on the downside now, but I hear that will change now that it is April. I have been buying my books from Voertmans bookstore since I started at UNT and have always been impressed with the service provided. However, this last semester I purchased my books, as well as my fiances through their online portal. I purchased two access codes as my fiance and i are both in the same class. The store called to confirm my order but when I went to pick my order up they had cancelled the second code however my total had remained the same, after going through 4 different people and a week of phone calls and emails I was told that one of the books i had ordered used was out of stock and they had replaced it with a new one even though i did not allow substitutions in my order and they wont do anything about it. They waited to share this revelation with me until after their rental return date so now Im stuck with a book i didnt order and cant return. I will never go here again. read more

Great store! They have books, art supplies, apparel and more. They save you so much more money when it comes to buying textbooks for college. I bought mine from our college bookstore Barnes and Nobles initially, but once I found out that Voertman's was selling me all the books I needed for even cheaper I had to take advantage. I returned my books and bought them from Voertman's and saved around $80. Not only do they have great prices on literally everything but the staff members are all very kind. A classmate recommended that I go here to get my books. I rented four books from them. I wasn't expecting to pay so much money for 4 books. I could have gotten them cheaper on Amazon; but I would have had to pay a lot in S & H because they would need to ship 2nd day air in order to get here in time for assignments and quizzes that are coming up in the near future. So I was kind of in a pickle. The good thing about Voertman's is their customer service. As soon as I entered the store someone helped me. He got the books for me pretty quickly. Everyone there was very friendly and I feel like I got to know them a little bit. I was having a bit of a rough day but just by talking with them they were able to lift me up. As good as a bookstore is going to get for acquiring textbooks. I should note that you should still ALWAYS check online for a cheaper option, but if that doesn't work, come to Voertman's. I taught a class at UNT in 2014 and needed a supply of books for my students, due to a mix up with textbook availability. The Barnes and Noble at UNT wanted to keep my students poor with absurd asking price, and sighed at the prospect of having to order new books, so I came to Voertman's as an alternative. First, their manager came out to talk, as he probably picked up on the heavy business I was going to bring their store. This was good, because I was able to make clear that my students didn't need the online activity code, which saved them something like 60 bucks a book over what the Barnes and Noble (and amazon) prices were demanding. Everyone in my class got a textbook, and they all saved money. Will definitely come here in the future for any textbook needs for my classes. read more

If you need art supplies don't buy from here. Today I went into their store to purchase a few sheets of Gray Rives BFK, I had the sticker from the last batch that I had purchased and the guy seemed happy to help. He grabbed some rives paper, I paid for it and ran off to class thinking that I had just bought some Gray Rives BFK. But not even 5 minutes after purchase did I realize that by a trick of the light that it looked Gray but I fact was white Rives BFK. Okay, no big deal, I went back with the paper still wrapped up in the plastic I had just bought, completely untouched by me. When I got back to the counter and politely told the man about the mix up he proceeded to blame me for giving him the label that had "tiny text" and that I would have to buy "Extra paper if I wanted the right one. No Refunds" and "I Should have known better" that his mistake was "My Fault"... I just spent $28 on the wrong paper fetched by this guy and then charged and Additional $30.27 for his mistake! The most upsetting thing is how quick he was to turn an attack me over his mistake! This place will never get my business again and I highly suggest that any of you looking to buy from these people to look else where. read more
