I cannot say enough good things about VLC. Blower motor in my AC went out. Someone else told me it was going to be about $1,500 to replace it. When I called his truck was broken down and in the shop so he cannot come out for a couple of days. He was asking questions about my unit and it came out that I am a DIY type person and he did the research on what motor I needed for my unit which ended up being only a couple hundred dollars. He told me where to order it and gave me advice on some further testing. I did not call him asking for free advice but he was more than willing to give it to me. He seems to honestly care about his customers and about taking care of their needs. He could have charged me basically whatever he wanted and I would not have known the difference. I got the motor and installed it myself but could not get it to run. I called him again and he came out and found out that I had gotten a defective motor. We were about to have a heat wave so he found a motor locally and came back that night after his other appointments. It was after 11:00 p.m. when he finally finished with my unit. He did not have to come back out that night and I know he was tired but he wanted to make sure my family had air conditioning during the heat wave. He was polite and professional and his prices were very reasonable. As long as he is still in business, I will not be calling anyone else if I need an HVAC contractor. read more

I have had issue with my air condition unit every summer since I've in this house four years ago. All appliances use to be under warranty until the developers went bankrupt. We have used Alfredo before. He is polite and considerate. Called him today Friday, 4/30/21, about 2 pm for A/C issue. He fit us in about 2 hours later, I was very happily surprised because my mom is visiting for the night and she isn't comfortable when it is too warm. Alfredo Castro is a problem solver with a heart. No one else would even touch our issue. Our kitchen exhaust value clanked loudly whenever the Delta breeze kicked in. He researched for the required part, discovered that it was not sold in California, replaced the existing valve with a better-but-less-than-perfect spring loaded version, and would not accept payment for a less than perfect solution. (This problem stretched over three week period.) Alfredo also outlined next steps - replacing and widening the exterior section to add a baffle, requiring stucco patching - and let us make a decision. I called alfredo before to service my ac unit, because i had a leak and he repaired it and added freon .he did an excellent job. Many years later i knew who to call because my ac wasnt blowing cold air anymore. And i had a new born during the hot august month. He came instantly and did a quick tune up for me. He an awesome human being, he didnt even charge me for the tune up or diagnostics or the repair. One of my filters was clogged with dust on my end that i had put there many years ago. Terrible swindlers took advantage of me. Alfredo installed a new heater and was told to give him a call personally if there were any problems.... Well as a matter of fact, there were issues. I called, met with the voicemail. Called the next day (I didn't get a call back), Alfredo answered this time.... was told I'd be called back as they were in the middle of a job.... hours passed. No callback. So much for reliability! NOT! I got fed up since the house was FREEZING and it was now late, and called the only place still open, Discount Heating and Air. Already impressed with how quickly they answered the phone, as well as their courtesy and concern for me. I explained my situation, they accepted my call, even though it was after-hours, and came right by.... found a flaw in the installation and fixed it right up. I had to pay AGAIN for my new heater just because VLC couldnt live up to their own promise... trust me when I say stay away from these people. No good! On top of that, I got curious and decided to get quotes on the exact services Alfredo offered me... called at least 5 competitors and 4 of them could've done what VLC did for LESS!! I will ALWAYS refer VLC!!! Alfredo was great. I called yesterday at 7pm 6-11-15 he answered the phone said he could be out the next day no later than 2pm, he got here at 12:30 awesome!!! He came in told him what was going on with our A.C. unit and he got right to work. Not even 2 hours later he got it up and running.....better than ever before!!!! When we turned it on it was 86° in my house 1 hours later and it's already at 76° and it is 101° outside. VLC Heating & Air Conditioning: VLC tech was absolutely e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t !!! He responded quickly to my AC being down after hours during our heat wave - triple digit weather. They were h-o-n-e-s-t, reasonable, courteous and cleaned up the mess Warrens AC made on my AC unit last summer (He had a lot to clean up: loose wires sticking out of the outside unit- sounded like a tractor trailer- the electrical panel AC breaker kept blowing due to a poor AC installation, stripped screws, wrong after market motor- and not installed correctly, and more.) Warrens lack of service: - During the late June 2013 heat wave in Manteca, I originally called Warrens several times (I called both their main line and their emergency line over 2 days.) - Warrens usually services my 2 AC & furnace units every year (I have prepaid these guys and it has been 5 days since I called them several times and no call back yet.) I will N-O-T use Warrens Heating and AC again. - They used to be very good...in the last couple years they have fallen down to very bad service and snarky techs...they seem to want to sell you a $7,500 system rather than just replace a $200 part and do it properly. DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE! I gave VLC a really high review after they first came out to my house to fix my A/C because they appeared to be an excellent company. They arrived early, came out to my house the same day I called, they were super courteous, and gave me the impression that they knew what they were doing and cared about their customers. Now, however, I have found out that they rigged my A/C system to basically blow up by replacing a $0.50 #3 fuse in my furnace with a piece of wire. I have since found out the fuse was meant to blow if there was a problem someplace in my wiring, but the piece of wire caused my system to continously work and heat up well beyond the point of where the fuse would normally blow to shut my system down. This overheated part of my A/C system and the parts that overheated had to be replaced, which caused almost a thousand dollars in unnecessary repair bills. All for what would have been a $0.50 part that I could have replaced myself had I known that the furnace fuse affects the A/C system. To be clear here, during the first visit VLC told me that the problem with my A/C was just a bad fuse that they replaced so Alfredo didn't even charge me for the visit. He just asked me for a good review on Yelp, if I could. My A/C system lasted exactly 7 days before it stopped working again. This time, I called VLC again to find out what the problem was and Alfredo told me that my capacitator had blown and he even showed it to me. He said that he needed to install a new one and that it looked like my compressor was starting to go bad so it would be a good idea if he put a hard start kit on my system to try and keep it running longer. $400 dollars later, my A/C lasted for 5 days. Now keep in mind that I had been without an A/C or heater (the two systems are somehow tied together) for about a year and a half, and I explained to Alfredo that I am very leary of repairmen. I think some slimmy ones just set out to take advantage of women (or customers in general) so I was afraid to call anyone for fear that this exact thing would happen to me. This time I called VLC and spoke with Alfredo to find out where my fuse was located in my furnace so that I could check and see if this was the problem with my system again (and also since I had already spent $400 and two visits later my A/C system was still broken). Alfredo told me that if I removed the doors to my heater, I should be able to see the fuse. I am sure that what Alfredo thought would happen is that I would call him back out to my house after not being able to find the fuse on my own, but after two visits from VLC with still a broken system, to me this means I call a different company. I didn't tell the new company that I called anything other than my A/C wasn't working after having someone else out to repair it because I wanted to see what they thought the problem was in case it wasn't the fuse. The serviceman for the new company noticed right away that the fuse was missing and he even took a picture for me to show me exactly where the fuse was supposed to go and the yellow wire that VLC had put in it's place in my furnace. Which was exactly where I, myself, had thought the fuse was supposed to be located after I went searching for it myself after seeing a video on youtube, but when I saw a wire in that spot I figured the youtube video must not pertain to my system and so this is why I called out the second air conditioning repair company. The service guy for the second company was beyond shocked that anyone would do that to someone's system, and he didn't understand why VLC didn't even bother to look for the grounding issue that was causing my fuse to blow in the first place so that they could repair my system correctly. I am a single mom who does not receive any child support, and I work very hard for the money that I earn so that I can take care of my two sons. I cannot believe how dishonest, and disreputable this company is, and that Alfredo would use such underhanded business tactics to steal money from their customers. I will definitely spread it far and wide just how horrible this company is and that VLC's main goal is obviously to rip-off their customers so that they can make a ton of money through their unsavory work ethic. I do plan on contacting the Better Business Bureau about VLC and their immoral business practices. I don't think that predatory businesses should be able to get away with cheating and lying to their customers so I am very glad to have Yelp to voice my experience in the hopes that it will save someone else from such a scummy repairman. Also, I didn't mention the name of the second company that I used because I don't want anyone to think that I am writing this poor review just to make another company look better. I want to start out by saying that Alfredo seems to be a nice guy. He came on a Sunday when no one else would and was very thorough when explaining to me about the issue I was having with the air conditioning in my home. In August, 2011, Alfredo replaced the compressor with a new one from Tecumseh. Although my compressor was still under warranty, he convinced me that it was cheaper and less of a hassle to purchase a new one than to deal with the company who held the warranty. The cost was $2028. 7 months later, in April 2012, the new compressor went out as well. Alfredo let me know that all of the labor and compressor was covered, but that I had to again pay for the r-22 refrigerant. After waiting a little over 3 weeks (and a few phone calls), Alfredo came and replaced the "warranty" compressor. Even though everything was under warranty, I ended up spending another $983 on freon at $90 a pound. I called around to multiple other HVAC repair places and was quoted a price for r-22 ranging anywhere from $18-50 a pound. Although I like Alfredo as a person, I can't help but feel like I was being charged extra to make up for the fact that this was a "warranty" job. Also, the warranty on the replacement is retroactive to the date of the first compressor, which means I have 3 months of coverage. Apparantly, if this new compressor goes out as well, I'm stuck with a $3000 broken compressor. I have never received any of the warranty information in writing and am waiting on a call back from Tecumseh to verify this information. I am not saying that the work Alfredo did was substandard. It seemed like he was very thorough and did the testing which was required for the job. I am saying that I recommend that you receive warranty information in writing before you sign up for any job and to "shop around" if you feel that the price for the freon is too high. Great service!!! Two thumps up. I highly recommend Alfredo to be your permanent heating and air conditioning guy. On 8/11/2012 Saturday I looked up some companies on the yellow pages on my iPhone app and he was the first one to pop up. So, I called him and an actual person picked up and not an answering machine. I explained to him that my parents air conditioner hadn't been working for a few years, and that we have had it and needed it to be repaired. May I add the temperature in Manteca that day was 102 degrees HOT. He listen to my problem and was very professional and friendly which I appreciated. Alfredo told me that he could be at the house within 15 minutes, which I thought was wonderful. He arrived shortly after and as I pictured him, he was a very nice guy to work with which made it that much better. He immediately went to work and within Just 15 minutes he fixed it. Ok, so many other companies have tried fixing it and many have failed. All of the other companies suggested that we buy a brand new unit. But Alfredo (VLC Heating & Air Conditioning) fixed the issue on the spot within minutes. If you are looking for someone who is reliable, honest, and knows his stuff this is the guy for you. I never usually go on here to write a review however, I wanted to take a few moments of my to write a review for VLC heating and air.. I'm so happy I picked a company like VLC to come out and look at my ac unit.. My unit stopped working about 2 weeks ago so I have been without an ac for about 3 weeks. I had called another company who was very unprofessional to service my ac unit and came to find out that nothing was done to my unit thanks to VLC.. They have great costumer service and know what they are doing.. I called them to schedule an appointment and they came out the same day.. Alfredo was the gentleman that helped me very professional.. He came out went and checked my unit n within 10 mins came back told me my indoor motor was blown and also showed me a video of what exactly was wrong and also showed me that my unit was not serviced by the other company I had hired to come out and take a look at it.. I was so upset however , Alfredo took care of me.. The next day he ordered the part and have me a quote on labor.. They are very very reasonable and trustworthy... He came back out to repair it and my ac is working great!! I'm so happy I picked this company.. They are very professional and there customer service is beyond excellent.. When he gavel a quote of 245 for everything I told him I couldn't afford it and I asked him if my brother was to go up on my roof and change the part Alfredo offered to walk him through the phone step by step AT NO CHARGE. To change the motor... I really did not expect that from That from a professional coma only like VLC.. I'm beyond satisfies and so happy that I went with a company like them... We had a problem w our air conditioning unit and called out another company first. BAD MISTAKE!!! We went two days w our house at 88*. We were almost convinced to buy a new unit...Thank goodness the lender did not loan my brother the money. We waited all day for the other company to come out and maintenance our unit, but since they didn't get $9500...well we were not a priority. Even after we had stressed how important it was being that we have a baby and two elderly parents (one on a ventilator). We made the call to VLC. I spoke w the owner Alfredo. We have central air conditioning with separate thermostats for upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs component was working fine, but upstairs was like a furnace. We called Alfredo, the owner of VLC Air Conditioning, and he replaced the upstairs thermostat, changed the filter, retested up and downstairs devices to ensure they were working properly; and even went out to the backyard and checked the air pressure unit out there as well. And it was a good thing he did, he said it was dirty, so he water hosed it clean and informed us that the circulation would be greatly improved. He was right! Alfredo was so thorough and friendly and he even showed my hubby which filters to purchase in the future, how to replace them on his own and the frequency in which to replace them. I called VLC Heating/Air Conditioning after reading good reviews about them on the web. A few months ago when I turned on my heater (heating/air conditioning unit), it was blowing cool air. Ugh! Decided not to use the heater anymore and use my portable heater instead, would wait to have the heater checked out before the end of the year. Now, with the hot weather starting, thought that maybe I should have a technician check the unit to see if the air conditioner is in working order or not. I was hoping that the unit wouldn't have to be replaced since it's so old. Alfredo was pleasant on the phone and in person. He came to my home at the time he said he would and started working on diagnosing the problem I was having, it took him less than 30 minutes to be done. He said that the refrigerant level and everything else was fine and working, that the reason the heater was blowing cool air was because the filters inside the house needed to be replaced (they're a couple of dollars at the hardware store). Don't need to buy the fancy pleated filters, want air to flow through them so the unit lasts longer. He said that if I maintain the unit it will last for many more years, which is great to hear. In the future when my heater/air conditioner unit has any problems, or I need to replace it, I will definitely be calling Alfredo. He went above and beyond my expectations!!! His work ethic and integrity is very rare to find. I will be referring my friends, family and neighbors to him when they want someone who is honest and reliable. This was the second time we called Alfredo and we couldn't be happier!!! The first time we called Alfredo was about 5 years ago and our heater stopped working on the coldest week that winter. Alfredo couldn't get the parts he needed that day and had to fix our heater the next day. The temp that night was supposed to be below freezing, and he didn't want our family to be cold over night. So, Alfredo went to his house and his mom's house to get us 3 or 4 space heaters to use that night. He went above and beyond for us!!! When our A/C stopped working this week, we didn't even think twice about calling Alfredo again!! He was over at our house less then an hour after we called him. He had our A/C working great in about 15-20 minutes and because the problem was so easy to fix he didn't even charge us!!!! Obviously he does not over-charge and is trust worthy.
