This is my first home security system. Researched multiple alarm systems and from that figured out I wanted a wireless system with connection to call police that I did not want to install myself.I wanted to avoid the variability of franchises and wanted a centralized company responsible for everything . I also wanted a company that with time you could add more linked features like fire detectors , carbon monoxide video cameras , link it to your keypad wireless lock. From reading horrible reviews on multiple sites AFTER my purchase I was super scared I made the wrong choice. Folks talking about poor equipment, poorly trained staff, salesmen pushing expensive options inability to cancel contracts etc. So far I have no major negatives to report- system has been installed for almost a year. It was fairly easy to choose my final purchase after reviewing with sales person my home needs and security concerns. If anything sales man was trying to encourage me to get cheaper system. After choosing we solidified time for installer to come. It was difficult getting the window desired- seemed very busy but the sales staff was in contact with me by email and phone to update me on my preferred availability. Day of install installer also communicated with me multiple times to give me an accurate ETA. He explained and reviewed what I ordered before installation and cost I had been quoted. I can't recall but I believe before or after install he called sales line to verify all quotes. Definantly good I wrote down all credits I was quoted because apparently my sales guy gave me a super good deal.Install would have been quick except took forever to connect main panel to electric outlet through the wall . This is where I think it is true that installers they use are not electricians. But the installer seemed very knowledgable about what he was doing and his limits. He explained everything as he was doing it and answered all my questions.After a valiant prolonged effort he was able to install with no damage to my wall or electrical system. Since the system has been installed , we have had several false alarms. I have been impressed by the speedy Vivint response. I like they alert you via email and phone. Even if alarm is off it lets you know of movement in any alarmed door or window.They also call back up folks and only if all this fails call police. But that happens fairly quickly - about 25 minutes for police to come on our first alarm. If you respond quickly enough they can cancel police call. In NY no extra cost for police response to false alarm. When I had some panel operational issues a quick phone call for fifteen minutes was all that was needed to upload new technology updates and get it back up to speed. For $54 dollars a month, for me it's well worth it to feel secure in my home. No desire to cancel and I like you have the option to bring the security with you when you move. Minor negatives: 1.They forgot to give me when installing stickers and yard sign. When I called a few days later , they told me it would be a month for me to get these. As a major part of alarm systems working is a deterrent sign - this was a major issue. I tried to reach my installer and sales contact to try and get this resolved sooner without avail. 2. The video technology they are developing is expensive and limited. read more

Vivint sucks. My DVR never works. I hate calling in to request assistance with the non working DVR because they always have me on the phone for over an hour. Right now the rep Steehen has had me on the phone for 1 hour and 21 mins. I think they keep you on hold hoping that you become frustrated and hang up. Ooohhhhh noooooo. Do not use Vivant. The camera hasn't worked since they installed it. Once you sign you are in a contract. They will not fix any issue unless you pay more and if you are dissatisfied with the service they will charge you a pretty hefty fee to stop it. The only way to protect yourself from this company is to NEVER sign with them. I really regret it but I consider it a lesson learned, I will never refer, sign, or use Vivant again. Horrible! Absolutely horrible. At one one i would have given the the 5 stars but after my experience even 1 star is too good. I've been a customer with them since 2018. never had an issue with the equipment or service. in July i decided to upgrade and since then i have had nothing but issues with the new equipment. i called them to send a technician out and they tried to charge me $99 for them to service a unit that is only 6 months old. why am i paying for something that doesnt even work! all they try to do is sell you. This has been the worst experience I've ever had with a company. Vivint does not operate with integrity, honesty, or fairness. It all began when I sold my second home back in 2022. I reached out to Vivint to cancel the service tied to that property and even provided proof of the sale -- yet they refused to let me out of the contract. Their reason? Because I still owed on the equipment (which I was never late on), they said I had to keep paying for service at a home I no longer owned. They offered to move the equipment, but I already had service at my new home, and the new owners didn't want it. Despite all that, Vivint made me pay for three years of service on a house that wasn't even mine anymore. That alone says everything about their priorities -- profits over people. Fast forward to this year, and I've been trying to cancel my current service for over two months. I've spent countless hours on the phone with reps who each claimed my cancellation was being processed. On September 27, 2025, I even received an email confirming my account was closed -- only to get another bill right after. When I called back, I was told that my "service term wasn't fulfilled," even though I've been a customer for nearly six years and signed a five-year contract. I forwarded the email proving my account was closed, and the rep agreed Vivint should honor it. He resubmitted the cancellation request -- but days later, I got another email saying my request was denied. Every time I call, I'm told I can't speak directly to a supervisor. The last rep said she'd "waive the past due" and "escalate" the issue -- but I've heard that line before. Nothing ever changes. At this point, I can honestly say Vivint operates like a timeshare -- they'll do anything to keep you locked in. It's exhausting, deceptive, and absolutely not the mark of a company with integrity. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I don't know why I went with Vivint, but I have to say that it was the biggest mistake of my life. I was an ADT customer in the past and never had to contact their service team for any issues. With Vivint, it is a weekly occurrence. Panel doesn't stay connected to the Wi-Fi, my camera over the garage doesn't stay connected to the system... Contact support, same generic instructions. It works for a few days. This company is a joke! Always posting misleading information and content! They advertise deals and when it's time to checkout the price is completely different. Also my payments are on time and every month I get a call regarding a late payment. I used to pay with my credit card but the company started charging crazy fees every month and also once that was cancelled I will pay a one time payment and automatically they will have access back to my credit and charge unauthorized fees. Had to filed fraud complaint because this was never authorized. Now I pay with a check and gets delivered on the date of my bill is due and this company keeps trying to cause issues. Had a sales rep come to my house in hopes of influencing me to buy. The guy super fast talked, and would not pause long enough for me to ask questions. He then attempted to enter my house by walking past me in my doorway, claiming to look for sensors for my existing Arlo cameras. It was unbelievable. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Service and equipment was spotty constantly and would require you to fix yourself. Something was constantly offline. On top of that, when I moved from the house, I called to cancel the service. They then informed me that I would have to buyout the remainder of my contract. I asked that they refer me to the document that stated such and they provided me with a one-page contract. The language was supposedly on the second page that was never provided to me to review and/or sign. This person conceded that there was no second page and I assertively asked for a supervisor. I spoke with a supervisor who said she understood and that I would receive a call back from "Joyce" with a determination on how they would resolve the matter. This was about an hour on the phone. I received no such call back. In the meantime, they continued to charge me and created past due amounts on the account. I called back on 2/1. Same thing after speaking to a new person. My previous conversations were not properly documented in the notes and/or this person chose to ignore them. He also refused to send me to a supervisor. Literally refused. Spent another lifetime during MY workday retelling the issue all for this person to tell me the same thing the first person told me (referred to "back office" for determination) but that he would credit the account and remove the past due balance. He also provided me with a case number this time. On 2/6, still no call so I decided answer the phone when "Joyce" called to tell me I had a past due balance. You're probably wondering what happened to the credit? Yeah. Me too. I requested she take a look at the notes and she referred me back to "Customer Loyalty." After me having to retell the entire issue, yet again, she immediately attempted to upsell me and refer others to them. Extremely distasteful. After more long holds, she kept insisting that someone would call me back after they attempted to find this "second page" of the contract that did not exist. This is the same tactic used in the first, two calls to them. After being called out on this tactic, I was placed on hold for another lengthy period of time to be told that she would credit the "past due" amount (she said she had to verify that was what I was told on 2/1) and that they discount the buyout amount by 50 percent after being told by an account manager that even though they did not have me sign the second page with stated language, I was still responsible because an early termination fee was implied in the first page. It isn't by the way...so finally when I said forget and agreed to pay with the 50 percent reduction in the amount, she then included the amount that was supposed to be credited back to me! When I asked her why on earth she would do that, she said it's because I had not submitted the request in writing and that she could not backdate the amount. Mind you, it was NEVER told to me that this was required when I made the first call to cancel on 12/23 nor on 2/1. When asked why this wasn't shared with me prior, she told me it was because they wanted me to buy out the contract first. I KID YOU NOT. Beyond unethical. My first red flag should have been how willing the technician was to cut corners if I paid him directly. Now there is only one page of the contract available but yet I'm supposedly responsible for everything. It is very clear that they use delay tactics to wait folks out, attempt to confuse them and wear them down to illegally obtain payment. Their business tactics are predatory. Poor Business practices. You are an alarm company that cannot guarantee its services or its equipment. You and your sales salespeople practice unethical means to get contracts signed and never follow up as they said they would. You can never get customer support long wait times and if you do it is over sea's when you request to speak with someone in the US it doesn't happen though Vivint is based out of Utah. Have complaints especially when it deals with my safety. You are an alarm service you cannot reach when the equipment is not working or any other reason very reassuring to me. OH, for the record, Vivint is pretending to resolve this. Here's a hint, take down names, times you talked to people, and complain on the BBB site. Because here's what Vivint does. They will have "notes" on your file that every halfway helpful technician will review when you get on the phone. And they will make any and all promises they can, pretending to help, pretending to resolve things, and then you will be promptly ignored. Your issue will keep going on because their "help" line is merely just to placate you. I wrote this review 3 weeks ago. I absolutely despise this company and their morals. I have had their service for over three years and I have had issues since I have had this service. I have called customer service to have techs come out and fix my equipment, but they have only sent me new equipment that doesn't work. I spent $50 on batteries for sensors that still don't work. I have gotten up on ladders and waved at sensors while tech support was on the phone trying to troubleshoot and my equipment still doesn't work. But trust they take their money on time monthly. I have been disconnected from reps and no one has called me back. I am also presently being charged $50 to have a tech come out and troubleshoot for me. Customer service is RUDE. They change their billing dates and then have the nerve to charge me a late fee. I always pay my bill way before the due date, they told me that they changed their billing dates and now my bill was past due. I was like how the invoice said it was due the 8th of the month and I paid it on the 1st. They were like yeah well now it's changed and you have to pay a $10 late fee. When I explained what the paper bill said they said no don't go by that. I said you're making no sense the Rep. got very nasty with me. I remember when the system was first installed they told me I was past due as well. I said the salesman told me I was paid up until August, my first bill would be in September. They tried to get me on a late fee too. They're records are ridiculous. You dispute it they argue with you. Then they send you another bill. They send you two bills in a month either different amounts or different due dates. I pay what I know to be the correct amount. I was given a key fob that does not work and I had to pay for it they didn't want to take it back or credit me. So I'm stuck paying for a key fob that doesn't work. The alarm it self wouldn't scare a mouse or only rings in your house if triggered. The alarm I had before would wake up the neighborhood if triggered. I got rid of that last company because I could never get them to call me back ( mom and pop company). So I opted for Vivint now I'm stuck with this company. DONT USE THEM! Every time you call with a problem there's a cost involved for you. He used to be a phone number or a button on the app if you were having a problem to be able to call and they've done away with that. So if you're having an emergency you have to take your time and make sure you type out and text him the right information. I called Customer Support at the number listed and the one in most of these replies and they told me the appointment was 2-4 and move without my knowledge or approval. WORST COMPANY EVER! Customer service is a joke. Haven't had a working system since January2021. Set up 3 appts for service and repairmen never showed. You call and they run a bunch of BS about a technician running late or stuck in traffic at 7pm at night. Then at 9 pm when you call again they say the guy is on his way which we know is a lie. They offer $15 credit on a $60 bill. Yeah not happening. Reschedule to only get an appointment another 3 weeks out. Then get calls to schedule an appointment. WHAT? Already scheduled one for 3/17. Call for 3 days unable to get through on number they provide and then call regular customer service number to find out why the appointment is cancelled told no appointment was ever scheduled! If that was the case why send an email saying that appointment is cancelled? How do you cancel something that ever was?.? What ever country is answering the phones reads off that the notes say for 2/22 appointment was cancelled because "Customer was unaware of appointment " I loose it! Have documented times and names of people and supervisors spoke to about the above ask to speak to supervisor and remarkably they just jumped on another call - would I wait? HELL NO. Contract is up in 4 months and it can't come soon enough. Not paying for services that don't work and defiantly fighting to end contract early with no penalties! I'm telling you now. Do not waste your money or your time. This system is terrible. Constant issues with my panel: Freezing screen Not storing images Screen not responding to touch Old images popping up when my doorbell is pressed Customer service has been great each and every time I've needed to contact them regarding the above but I honestly have not gone a full month without experiencing one of the above issues. I've been a customer for 8 months. It's frustrating. If it's a software issue I'd understand but I've have this for almost a year and it hasn't gotten any better. Should've stayed with ADT. Two weeks ago my wife came home and the screen was frozen. The keypad was never viewable on the panel for her to put the code in. I got an alert on my phone stating the alarm had sounded. I called my wife who was already on the phone with Vivint because the alert was seen on their end as well. My wife stated the alarm NEVER SOUNDED AT OUR HOME!!! That's a HUGE problem for me. I may bite the bullet and pay the penalty to cancel the service. In the end my families safety is more important and at this moment Vivint does have my trust in that dept. read more

Vivint Security is the worst decision we ever made. They have equipment that is substandard. We must call every two weeks at a minimum due to system or camera or alarms failures. Best part is if it goes down while you are away from home it traveling (when you need it most) they cannot do anything if you are not in front of your panel!! The doorbell camera, which is most, goes down at least once a week. Customer Service/tech support are not capable of independent logical thought and can only read from prepared scripts; I couldn't stop laughing as they deny scripts but my notes from every call (different techs) are identical regardless of what I say. Then when I finally told them we are done - cancel!! they continue with the scripts offering resolution suggestions that we already know don't work. Oh they also told me they don't automatically push out the required software upgrades as it is my responsibility to reach out and find out if there are any!! I would not recommend this for a dog house. If you want to throw your money in the trash for non-working equipment, no serve, no security, epic instructions requiring you to do an amazing amount of technical work on your side and rude customer service, then Vivint is the company for for you. Don't do it!! Hey Two months later: I had an ADT system installed immediately after the debacle of trying to get Vivint to get system to work. Sent them the cancellation letter via registered mail. The only tho g they have done is continue to bill for service. They don't care one bit about the failed system, poor (non-existent) service, or rude customer service. Just those bills. Not worth the money. After 2 years, most of what they promised either doesn't work or doesn't work well. Doorbell constantly disconnects or goes offline even though it's 15 feet from the router and panel. I've been running a parallel system from another brand and that system works flawlessly at a fraction of the cost (though it does not have monitoring). I have serious reservations if their monitoring system even works based on the equipment though I haven't had an incident to test that out. Combine that with expensive rates and long contracts and I can't honestly recommend this system. Also the clips it records doesn't show up until 1 day later sometimes on the app so it's useless when you need to see who was at your door 5 mins ago. Again I have a secondary camera at the door and the notifications and clips always pop up within a minute. With Vivint's equipment, it's been pretty unreliable for me as a security system. I'm thinking of cancelling and just paying the cancellation fee. When something goes down, I'm stuck on the phone for an hour trying to troubleshoot it. Unfortunately the key to dealing with Vivint is to have them confirm everything they tell you in an email while you have them on the phone. If you don't get it in writing they won't honor it and it won't get done. My sales rep never sent me a receipt, and only after 2 hours on the phone with customer care did I get a receipt which showed the sales rep left off 18 sensors that I paid for, and bait and switched me from the outdoor cam pro to the outdated model that preceded the outdoor cam pro. It took literally hours on the phone with customer care reps and supervisors telling me i already got too many discounts to remedy the issue, until I threatened to call the police for fraud and was finally transferred to an executive who was able to fix the issue in 5 minutes. read more

I was referred by a friend of mine for this camera system in my home. For the first month everything was great but then the camera system starting disconnecting from my wifi, so I called Vivint Smart Home and explained my issue. They then informed me about them having their own wifi service which they failed to mention when they came to install the cameras. I got charged $50 for them to come and install their wifi modem. After all this my cameras STILL DO NOT WORK PROPERLY AND I AM PAYING $80 a month for service that does not work! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. Here's my story: After an emotionally charged divorce which forced me to sell my home and relocate to an apartment building, when I tried to close my account with your Customer Service, I was told that I was bound to a contract that still had a year left and that the only way I could get out of it would be to pay a $650 fee. Or, I could transfer the account to my new address, which I couldn't given it is an apartment building, transfer it to a family member or any other person in the US, Canada or Puerto Rico... OR better yet, I could post a notice on Facebook, which I do not use, or post a notice on Craig's List !! Really Vivint ?? Is this the type of Customer Service you offer to someone who has gone through such a hardship ? Your Customer Service associate chose to push for a contractual term rather than empathize with the situation at hand and eventually foster customer loyalty? If I had ever any thoughts about continuing to use your services some time later in the future this experience today truly made me rethink whom should I give my loyalty to when it comes to home protection !! Certainly not to you Vivint. So as if I didn't have enough challenges and expenses with my divorce, I still have to keep paying Vivint for a service that I am not using nor will be using at all !! I just had Vivint installed in my home after carefully reviewing comments made 2014 and 2015 from the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's website. Many of the reviews were negative. I actually read on another site that Vivint have improved a lot compared to services in the past. When my husband and I spoke with a Vivint representative to share our concerns about the negative reviews they received from customers in the past and the representative acknowledged how it was in the past. Then began to share all of the improvements that Vivint made. The representative took the time to explain every detail to my husband and I. After hanging up the telephone from the representative I had one more question. Do you know I emailed the representative and he called back immediately and answered my question. What wonderful customer service. On August 8, 2017, Vivint sent a technician to my home to install the new system. The technician made me feel that I was the only customer he had to service. Before the installation, I shared concerns and asked questions that was answered to my satisfaction. What made the process pleasant was the technician's customer service and his knowledge about Vivint. I was totally impressed and pleased once the work was completed. The technician showed my husband and I how to work the keypad, key fob and app on our cell phone. We also tested all the other items that was purchased with the contract (sensors, motion detectors, cameras, etc.). I forgot to mention that Vivint is up-to-date with their technology. I tried all the features and realized that Vivint is one of the best security companies out their. I am so pleased with this system and will recommend all my family, friends, neighbors and people I work with. Thank you Vivint for such a great experience and excellent customer service. read more

I had my system installed almost 2 years ago..In the beginning there was some connection issues to the doorbell camera, but 2 months into my newly installed system i no longer have those or any issues for that matter.. I read some negative reviews after installation and yes that did scare me...but i have to say that I LOVE my system...I have the latest system and have installed almost all of their products, I still need to buy one leak sensor and 3 smoke alarms to own all of their products...I pay less than $22.00 per month as i pay for everything i need upfront, hence no contracts read more

Unfortunately, I must say I have NOTHING good to say about this company. We were setup to get a security system installed on December 8th. The technician arrived on time but he was inexperienced, he had only been on the job 2 months and we were his 2nd installation. I called the company earlier that day to say, it's about to get dark, should we reschedule. I was reassured they work in the dark all the time so no problems should occur. The technician and I sat down for about an hour to discuss camera placement and such. By the time he got started installing the cameras outside, it was dark. Well what happened next, nobody expected. The technician drilled thru a live wire and caused an electrical fire on the exterior wall of my home. My neighbors told me their lights started flickering as well because the wire he hit was the main line from my house to the utility pole. The technician owned up to his mistakes and immediately called the Home Damage department. They reassured me they would take care of all damages. Needless to say, we were displaced from our home for 2 days, thank God for wonderful neighbors. We hired an electrician to replace the damaged wires, and he was reassured by the Home Damage department he would get paid directly from Vivint the day he did the work. To this day, he hasn't been paid. To this day, Vivint has done NOTHING to assess the damages or any attempt at repairs. All they've offered me, now get this, is $350 to pay for the damages to my home. The liability claim can only pay up to $2000 and the electrician charged them $1650 so I get what's left over. Looks like more than $350 worth of damage to me. We have now involved our homeowners insurance and they will go after Vivint on our behalf. Whatever you do, DO NOT PURCHASE their product!! I had a Vivint system installed in my house last week and so far I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service provided and the technology installed. I write this review in hopes that it will clear up some confusion on the products offered and the contract as I found the online website perplexing and devoid of information. The Contract: When you consummate a contract you must be well aware of the implications and act accordingly. Having done a tremendous amount of research, here is a summation of my findings. First, every customer is required to sign up for either smart home monitoring for $39.99 or smart home video monitoring for $49.99 a month. What these do is give you access to the mobile app, alarm notifications, and real time monitoring by the company. For the few customers that buy their equipment outright, they have the option of going month to month for the monitoring service so they can cancel at anytime. However, the vast majority of customers will most likely end up financing the equipment. Unlike ADT who gives you the technology and alarms for free and charges a montly monitoring premium, Vivint charges you the retail price of the devices you install and finances them at 0% interest through Citizens Bank. What this means is that you will be taking out a loan that will show up on your credit report as an installment agreement and you will be responsible for the entire balance of the products regardless of whether or not you cancel, move, etc. The term of this agreement is five years so you will most likely be locked into paying between $20-50 for the four or five year term. Now, here is where it gets tricky and some confusion sets in. If you do opt to FINANCE the equipment, you are also locked into paying for monitoring for the entire life of the installment agreement for the equipment. What this means is that now you have two payments every month for four or five years: one to Vivint directly for their "smart monitoring" and the second to Citizens Bank for the equipment. What is unfortunate about this arrangement and the cause of innumerable bad reviews is that even if you pay off the equipment loan early, you are still on the hook for the monitoring even if you are dissatisfied with the service. Hypothetically, if the cost of the financed equipment is $2,500 and you sign up for the premier smart video monitoring for $49.99 a month, over the course of five years you will be required to pay $5,500 regardless of your satisfaction with the service or a change in circumstances. Please note: all of the contracts I signed had a relatively bulletproof ARBITRATION clause which means that you will be sacrificing any opportunity to go to court or take part in a class action should something go seriously awry or you wanted to take legal recourse to break your contract. Sales Experience: A life-long friend of mine was my salesman and did a fantastic job of outlining the program including the features and benefits. Everything is done on an ipad and I will say that I was impressed by the level of the presentation performed and the interface for which to on-board new customers. My recommendation for new customers is that if you are going to be locking yourself into a monitoring contract that is fixed at $50 a month for the life of the loan, you might as well get everything you want as they service it no charge and it doesn't raise the monthly equipment finance payment drastically. The Install: I was impressed by the professionalism of the technician and the pride he took in his work. He was prompt, let me know when he was coming, and took his time to make sure that I was absolutely satisfied with the placement of the products and the installation. NOTE: If you are tall, please tell your technician to install the sky-panel higher up on the wall as it it may be installed too low to use comfortably. The Products: I had a hard time finding information on the outdoor cameras and even customer service seemed unsure of many of the finer aspects and features. First, Vivint DOES offer 24/7 monitoring (meaning your cameras record and store footage 24 hours a day for 30 days straight). To have this functionality you MUST buy the Smart Drive for $250 (Smart Drive is a physical device that connects to your router and physically stores up to 30 days of video). For me, it was confusing that the Smart Drive used to be called Space Monkey but for your purposes just know it is a magical little box that connects to your router and holds all your recordings for 30 days. While many tech's will tell you that your cameras only record "motion," this is not true: all you need to do once you have the smart drive is click on the camera in your app and hit playback. Once there, you can select the calendar day and scroll through every minute of every day and watch what was happening with helpful blips showing motion etc. For me, this sold the product. read more
