Good food, unique tastes, quality ingredients. A little more expensive than some of my other favorites but I thought it was worth it

Margaritas were great. Food was mediocre and slightly overpriced.

Vive Sol offers some of the best gourmet Mexican food in the Bay Area. Their chicken serrano and fresh margaritas can't be beat.

Authentic restaurant with fantastic ambiance and friendly service. Dimly lit, warm, and festive atmosphere with some outdoor seating. I had the sopa azteca (house version of tortilla soup) and it was really delicious! read more

Best Mexican place I've been to on the peninsula. Used to love the chicken with Grandma's special sauce, (guadalajillo?), now that I'm vegetarian I usually get the cheese enchiladas suizas. I've never had a bad meal there. Have also taken family from out of town here. It's a festively decorated place with a medium large dining room. It's not intimate. Has outdoor seating in the summer which is casual. Inside is a step up from super casual. It's a nice place for a date night. Don't bother trying to call for a reservation or take-out. No one ever seems to answer the phone. read more

Favorite neighborhood spot and fav Mexican food, maybe ever! This place is so good. I take all of my out of town guests here. I have ALWAYS been pleased with my meal. The Guajillo sauce is so ridiculously good. Vive Sol also has delicious margheritas! Lots of vegetarian options and the food is very fresh. This place has a great atmosphere and location. Plenty of parking in the back. I had the Bistec Ranchero which was really good. One of my freinds had the enchiladas which he said were ok but lacked cheese. My other friend had a salad which she said wasn't good at all. The margaritas were really good and Fernando, our server, was on his game. I am not a fan of the owners other restaurant, Palo Alto Sol, because I had a bad dining experience in the past. I was willing to give this spot a chance though. At Palo Alto Sol, I had the camarones a la diabla which was horrible. Typically, this dish is prepared with a very sweet yet extremely spicy paste sauce. At Palo Alto Sol and Vive Sol, they prepare in a garlic butter sauce with pepper flakes (the kind you put on your pizza????) WTF? This is not a traditional dish at all. Just horrible that they try to get away with this. I am still trying to find a quality Mexican restaurant here in Palo Alto and the Mountain View area. I will come back to PA Sol and Vive Sol for appetizers and cocktails. read more

If your looking for a restaurant with ambiance, this is your place. Its a super romantic atmosphere with great menu items. Margaritas are awesome, the only downside is it can get SUPER packed. I would definitely suggest this to anyone looking for a good date location :) read more

Overpriced. for what you get, food quality is OK at the best (Carne Asada was dry and not tasty, mediocre tortillas). Not good for kids.

I love Vive Sol! They are a family-owned restaurant that has quickly become my favorite Mexican restaurant -- ever! They have really unique, authentic dishes that blow any ol' tacqueria out of the water. Not to mention their margaritas -- AMAZING. They have a very large selection of margaritas and all of them are yummy. The restaurant is often busy, but the service is always impeccable and the food and drinks great. Even though it can seem very busy, I've never had to wait more than half an hour for a table. When I do have to wait for a table, I'll usually grab a margarita at the bar for my wait. The bar tender is super friendly and quick. I've never had a bad experience here and would recommend it to anyone. read more

Great taste, few authentic recipes, original sauces, enjoyed the food. They would do well with a little more organized on service, make it a bit more personal, learn the load on each server, let them engage a little more with the diners. We'd love to see them get another star from us. Will go again, made it to our list of preferred Mexican. read more

My wife loved this place. I thought it was a little better than average. I had the Encheladas de camarrones which had a good taste. The meat was great, but the sauce was too much and there wasn't much else in the enchilada. There was no kids menu, which was annoying. Decent food, but for the price, I think it could be better. read more

ROACH Infused sangria is making it hard for my wife and I to return to this otherwise lovely venue. After finding a DEAD COCKROACH in my wife's sangria we can't muster the courage to return. read more

Very noisy, with tables quite close together. Parking is a bit of a challenge. Pricey for what you are getting, although our server was attentive, charming and friendly without being overbearing. The food is the problem -- not much flavor. The seafood stew was watery, with overcooked fish. The mole enchiladas were nothing special. We saw mostly families who seem to be regulars. But we won't bother with the parking or the noise with subsequent visit. One visit was enough. read more

Vive Sol claims to be the sister restaurant to the fantastic Palo Alto Sol, but it's more like a red headed step-child. The food isn't as good, the prices are more expensive, the wait staff isn't as friendly, and the management seems completely clueless. Travel the extra 5 minutes and go to Palo Alto Sol or to Fiesta Del Mar for better food and better service read more

Wow! The signature margaritas are the best I've ever had-- so good they make all others seem disappointing. The food is also excellent-- I usually go for enchiladas. Their mole is on the sweet end of the spectrum, just how I like it. Chip snobs (like myself) might not be wild about the chip texture, but the excellent salsa trio more than compensates. read more

A few days ago my wife and I met two friends (along w/ their one year old) at Vive Sol. The service was very helpful and nice, the margaritas were excellent (my wife and I are very picky when it comes to margaritas), and the food was excellent. I ordered the shrimp a la diabla. Usually, when I order this dish, the shrimp come swimming in red sauce, which I love. At Vive Sol, it was more of a fresca style, with the shrimp grilled w/ fresh onion, garlic, jalepeno, and tomato. At first take, I was disappointed that I didn't get diabla sauce with the shrimp, but I soon realized after my first bite the food was amazing. I would categorize Vive Sol as 'gourmet mexican' food with an upscale feeling to it (for a mexican restaurant). The ambiance very much reminded me of being in Cabo. This is a great spot for authentic Mexican food. Great free chips and salsa! Try the Goddess margarita and you will not be disappointed. The Enchiladas de mole Poblano are also a highlight!! The owners are really friendly and have kept the dishes very authentic - can't say I have ever had a poor item. The ambiance is great - both inside and outside on the patio. Make a reservation because it is always busy!!! They also have take out which is a bonus when you are starving and forgot to make a reservation. :) read more

Ok so a friend of ours recommended this restaurant to try. We went here for dinner on a Friday a little earlier then when the big crouds come in. Even doing so, the service was absolutely horrible. I don't think I've ever had worse service than here. We waited about 10+ minutes just for the server to come to the table then he never once checked on us and then gave us a dirty look when we didn't order desert. Really? Come on, what did you expect? The chips and salsa were very good but the food not so much. I wanted grilled chicken tacos all they had was shredded chicken which I do not care for. They told me they could not make me the taco I wanted which really suprised me given that they have other dishes that have 'grilled chicken' in it. I ended up just getting a quesedilla which I could have made at home. Very very disappointed and their prices were pretty expensive given what I ordered. read more

Make no mistake - this is top quality Mexican food. The food is interesting and prepared to perfection. It absolutely blows away any other Mexican restaurant in the area. When it's crowded it can be very noisy so it's not the best place for a quiet romantic dinner but the restaurant definitely has great ambience if you are looking for a fun evening. read more

Ate there tonight to scout out possibilities for a large group for next week. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and outdoor seating is inviting. service was pretty slow though admittedly a Saturday night. the good news- enchiladas were delicious as was the chile relleno, nice tangy sauce and the refried black beans were good. The bad: Portions were on the small side and the chips were stale, surprisingly so. and the salsa's were kind of watery and thin, i prefer the chunky style and chips at Celias (the place I am comparing it to). TERRIBLE: I found my dinner at this place to be completely inedible! And then the waiter rudely assumed that I just didn't know what mole sauce was. I was, of course, charged for it, a price that is way too high even if I had been able to eat it. I tried to just eat the rice and beans but there was a gross long hair in the beans. The guacamole was mediocre and the chips and salsa, which I ate way too much of because I was so hungry, were the same as you would get anywhere else. In conclusion, do NOT go here! read more
