This a small place with amazing food! There is nothing fancy about this spot so don't come in expecting a waiter. My friend and I decided to order two drinks and two dishes to split. -Alambres: I have never heard of this dish and was intrigued. We didn't know what was in it so we ordered it blindly. This knocked our socks off. We picked beef, so it had chopped beef, bell peppers, onions and bacon in it. It had melted cheese on it, as well and came on street taco sized tortillas, probably eight of them. -Pupusas: we ordered bean and cheese, as well as the chicken (I think). They came with a small warm orange dipping broth and small slaw. These were nice, big size, as well. -aqua frescas : they had watermelon, horchata and melon so we got the first two. The horchata was nice but we didn't finish it off. The watermelon was delicious and refreshing. If we're ever back in the area, will def go back! Also, stop in at the panderia that is next door! Fabulous options! They have a small salsa bar with several options (all had a kick) and radish, cucumber and pickled jalapenos. The chips on the side were the round corn chips- maybe store bought. They were not my favorite but the salsas were good. They have indoor and outdoor seating.

Got 3 chicken tacos and the meat was pretty dry. But it's good vibes inside, they have music and sports playing. I want to come back to try the alambre, their chicken soup while it's still chilly out, or take advantage of their deal to buy 5 tacos and get a free drink

    Asada Torta (requested no tomato)

This is a real whole in the wall place. Everything is in Spanish including the payment console, haha. Most tables were already taken during lunch time too, so I had a good feeling about this place... I enjoyed my Asada Torta, but I would pick a different protein next time. The asada was diced into little pieces, so it was hard to keep it in the sandwich. Very tasty though!

Wow! It is real authentic mexican food. So far the most authentic I've tried. Great place, with tables indoor and outdoor. And for some people the most important, with a good price.

Al Pastor Taco ($3.50)- 3/5 stars

3.5 stars overall but rounding up for one of the better burritos I've had recently. They weren't busy at 4:15pm on a Sunday, and it was about a 10 minute wait for a take out order. Their menu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=QFHpf7B-EJ7nFtSS3usHsw&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg) has a ton of different options, including menudo, mole, and quesabirria. Joya Taqueria offers a wide variety of different proteins, including different types of offal: buche (pork stomach), oreja (pig ear), cueritos (rendered pig skin), trompa (pork snout), and cabeza (head). They also serve the classic proteins: asada, al pastor, carnitas, and pollo. I opted for the classics to start off with, and tried: -Carne Asada Burrito ($12, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=uIcjPW6PBhLec7NFFdqeeg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): I pretty much order all my burritos without beans, and this burrito was still a good size without them. The carne asada was actually flavorful, and had a nice sear. If this burrito had a little more sour cream and the option to add guacamole, it would've been perfect! It was still really good after I added more sour cream at home, and used their green salsa. -Al Pastor Taco ($3.50, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=JBi2weXriAihfBAk6bpHTQ&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): It seemed like the al pastor was cooking on the spit for a while before I arrived, and I think the meat would've been juicier/less dry if I came when they were busier, and going through the al pastor more quickly. The corn tortilla was also a little dry, but I liked the flavor of their al pastor. I really appreciated that they give you a small ziploc with sliced cucumbers and limes, in addition to salsas. They had two types of salsa- a creamy green jalapeno salsa and a spicy red salsa. The creamy green salsa was delicious, and had a great level of spice. I wasn't a fan of the red salsa since it was too acidic and had too many chili seeds. I'll be back for more of their burritos, and plan to try some different proteins for tacos the next time around! Both indoor and outdoor seating options were available, and they had hand sanitizer. Some staff were wearing masks (despite the mandate being lifted), but the majority were not. Parking was easy to find since they have a small lot to the left of the taqueria, and there was a larger parking lot available to the right of the Joya Supermarket.

Delicious authentic Mexican food! Across town from where we were but still made the trip for some home cooked style yums. The chivo quessobirria is a foolproof delightful meal ! Great portions and super tasty. Must try!!!

Parking: as others mention, there are only 2 spaces in front on San Antonio Road, I didn't know they had a back lot. It's on the same block as Chef Chu. Luckily there wasn't much traffic so I was able to back in which made leaving easy. Ambiance: nice. It was a bit warm waiting for my takeout order, they had the front door open. They also have a nice outdoor covered patio eating area in front, see the photo. Service: when I entered there were no other customers, only a bartender who didn't acknowledge me. I was about to yell out but Mariana (the name on my receipt) appeared and took my order. Food: Chile Relleno plate w black beans, rice, a small bag of fresh tortilla chips, and two kinds of mildly spicy salsa. The Poblano pepper was stuffed w cheese and had a tasty egg batter, covered w a red salsa like sauce. It was quickly devoured! Price: $17 + $1.55 tax + tip. Chile Relleno by itself is $10 I think. I would return to try other items. I had a hankering for a good Chile Relleno and was satisfied!

The restaurant is well decorated, feels lively, and is very dark. Maybe a bit too dark - we had to use our flashlight on our phone just to read the menu. We ordered a few items: - Guacamole 3.5/5 , tasted fresh but needs salt. - Ceviche 3/5 , A bit on the sweeter side than we would like - Verde Carne Asada Burrito meal: 4/5, pretty solid actually just wish the portion was a bit bigger for $24 - Steak Fajitas.... 1/5. My mother usually orders fajitas when we go out to eat at mexican restaurant, but we did not see it on the menu, so we asked the server if they had it and he said yes! Now we know why it's probably not on the menu... The meat was SUPER oily, I mean like drenched in oil, if you put a flashlight on the dish, you will quite literally see a puddle of oil at the bottom of the bowl. Second, the meat is very very tough and dry, similar to some meat you would reheat in the microwave after leaving it in the fridge for a few days. This dish is literally unacceptable and the worst part is the fact it costs $29. DO NOT ORDER THIS. Since, this was a dinner for an early mother's day. We did not want to cause any complaint or trouble to the restaurant as it was super packed. We just won't be coming back here anymore. The server himself was friendly, but man did the service suck. We had to flag down someone every time to bring water, chips, and the check. There was no staff check in ever. In fact, they actually lost my credit card and we were waiting around 10- 15 minutes to just get our check back. Everything took forever and the service was super slow. It was a lot of sitting and waiting for each thing. Losing my credit card and having us wait 10-15 minutes to get it back is unacceptable for a professional restaurant that is not on the lower end of things either.

Generally in SoCal we don't put pico de gallo on ours. Although this did not taste like the SoCal kind(that classic so heavy and rich heart attack flavor), it was still awesome. It had all the otherwise same ingredients, slightly less cheese but a more good quality type of cheese, but still was missing the heart attack flavor. The flavor was still with the same depth, just not heavy/greasy sensation on the stomach and taste buds.
