Too dark. One table was using their phone flashlights to read the menu. Too hot. It had been a hot couple of days and by the time we halfway through our chips and salsa, the lack of air flow was becoming apparent. They use ceiling fans and only the ones on the opposite half of the restaurant were running full speed, the one directly over head was barely moving. Too frantic. Everyone moved top speed. The second they thought you were done, plates were being taken away. Forget leisurely contemplation on having that last chip or two. Attentive service is one thing, this was another. The food, unfortunately, did nothing to move any of the negatives into the positive. No return visit required. read more

Came here on a Saturday night around 7:30 pm for an early Mother's Day Dinner and it was quite packed, but we were able to get seated fairly quickly. The restaurant is well decorated, feels lively, and is very dark. Maybe a bit too dark - we had to use our flashlight on our phone just to read the menu. We ordered a few items: - Guacamole 3.5/5 , tasted fresh but needs salt. - Ceviche 3/5 , A bit on the sweeter side than we would like - Verde Carne Asada Burrito meal: 4/5, pretty solid actually just wish the portion was a bit bigger for $24 - Steak Fajitas.... 1/5. My mother usually orders fajitas when we go out to eat at mexican restaurant, but we did not see it on the menu, so we asked the server if they had it and he said yes! Now we know why it's probably not on the menu... The meat was SUPER oily, I mean like drenched in oil, if you put a flashlight on the dish, you will quite literally see a puddle of oil at the bottom of the bowl. Second, the meat is very very tough and dry, similar to some meat you would reheat in the microwave after leaving it in the fridge for a few days. This dish is literally unacceptable and the worst part is the fact it costs $29. DO NOT ORDER THIS. Since, this was a dinner for an early mother's day. We did not want to cause any complaint or trouble to the restaurant as it was super packed. We just won't be coming back here anymore. The server himself was friendly, but man did the service suck. We had to flag down someone every time to bring water, chips, and the check. There was no staff check in ever. In fact, they actually lost my credit card and we were waiting around 10- 15 minutes to just get our check back. Everything took forever and the service was super slow. It was a lot of sitting and waiting for each thing. The flavors were really good and the portion size was huge -- I had enough leftovers for another full meal the next day. Definitely good value for what you get. Our family visits Vive Sol frequently and we always have a great time. Their pricing is comparable to most restaurants, averaging around $30 per plate, but their portion sizes are absolutely massive. Weve tried so many different meals and they're always a hit. In our most recent visit we had: Nachos with pork - we split this with our two little kids and we were practically stuffed before our mains arrived Sabana Invierno - lots of meat and the chorizo was a nice touch Camarones Cilantro - my husband gets this every time; grid and true favourite Milanesa - the perfect meal for our little ones. The food and drinks were good. I had shrimp enchiladas. The shrimp were cut up really small, but the taste with the red sauce was really good. The portion size with the beans and rice were generous. My son had a mango slush along with a quesadilla. He loved it as well. The price point may be regular in the area, but $24 for these dishes felt very steep. I arrived shortly after they opened for dinner service and was greeted and seated right away. The staff was attentive, very pleasant and the decor was very nice. Coming from Southern California we have plenty of top quality Mexican restaurants and I would say the food was good, but not the best chili verde I've tasted and no burrito is worth $24 dollars. This after I ordered a $16 margarita which is a little crazy unless you're using top shelf tequila. With all this said I'm sure this is a great neighborhood spot and loved by many. read more

I went on a date to Vive Sol tonight and it was great! The inside is very cute and great for a date night. They have a large menu with many delicious menu items, including lots of varieties of enchiladas and burritos. We started with the chips, salsa, and guacamole which were all very tasty. The guacamole was a little bland for my liking, but still very fresh. I had the combination plate with the quesadilla and the guajillo enchilada, and my date has the combination with guajillo enchilada and chile relleno. We both enjoyed our food. I probably wouldn't get the quesadilla again though just because it was just a small tortilla with cheese, without seasoning or meat. Our waiter came by often to refill our drinks and check on us, and everyone who worked there was very nice! They have parking in both the front and back of the restaurant. Vive Sol has some strong points, but also a few drawbacks that keep it from being a go-to spot for me. First off, **parking is a challenge**. The lot is tiny, and if you're coming during peak hours, expect to circle the block a few times or park down the street. Amazing.** Seriously, the cocktails here are the standout. Creative, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. If I came back, it'd probably be just for happy hour. Service was... okay. The **staff is friendly enough**, but our food took quite a while to come out. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. As for dessert, we tried the **flan**, and sadly, it missed the mark. This restaurant has been around forever but we've never had a chance to try it. My fiancé wanted Mexican so came here tonight to give it a try. We started with the guacamole and they brought 3 salsas. My fiancé likes all the salsas, a bit spicy. I thought they were a bit vinegary . Guacamole is a generous portion with chopped tomatos on top. Very good consistency but I thought could use a pinch of salt. I ordered the combo plate of chili relleno and beef tostada. Chlli relleno cake with a very tasty sauce. Tostada was good with q slice of tender beef. My fiancé ordered beef enchilada al chipotle and loved it! He said the sauce was unique -- smoky, spicy , and very tasty. It's a bit pricey for Mexican food but it was very good. Wait staff was also very friendly. I can see why this place is so popular. read more

Delicious food and fast service, but the acoustics inside the restaurant make dining here a challenge for me. I come here every once in a while with friends, and while the food, the guac, chips, and salsa, are fresh and tasty, the white noise chamber chitter-chatter creates is painful for my ears. I've been to other restaurants in the area where the space was equipped with sound dampeners on the ceiling. While I noticed some dampeners at Vive Sol, they appear inadequate and not suited for the space. I'd strongly recommend that the management take a bolder step in this direction. Vegetarian/vegan reviewer: Came here alone on a day when I thought my world was falling apart. I am glad I did coz at least the food made me think otherwise. Lol. Jokes apart - I really liked what I'd ordered(pictured) - Enfrijodalas and can't wait to go try their burrito. The chips were perfect with 3 different salsas too(my favorite is the green salsa). I am glad I finally tried this restaurant. The service is pretty good too - they neatly boxed the left over for me coz no way can one person finish the entire dish by themselves with the chips. This place is located in Mountain View and we got in there on a Thursday night. They have parking spots but it's a little tight so street parking is also a good option also. Thankfully once we got there we were seated pretty fast given we were a large group of about 10. I ended up ordering: *mango margarita - this was yummy and fruity and had the mango flavor which I really liked. I've been a Vive Sol supporter for - how many years - at least 15. But over the last five years (covid +), the prices have doubled and every other thing I love about the place is declining. They have a lovely outdoor patio area. They've closed it for years. Tonight - a Sunday night at 7 pm - the parking lot was open, the restaurant quiet. That says a lot - it is not just me. We used to have to park elsewhere and walk. Tonight all I did was order a mixed salad and chicken soup to go - literally soup and salad. I got a house margarita while I waited. Pre tip and tax almost $52. And when I got home they didn't even put any chips and salsa in the bag! OMG. I just have to quit. I've loved their lomo de puerco for forever, but now it's $29 plus tax and tip. They used to be open for lunch, now they are just open 3.5 hours a day, FIVE days a week?! What is that? What restaurant can survive on those hours? I know the restaurant business is tough and food prices high but literally, it's soup and salad and no chips. They do not make their own sweet and sour mix for margaritas - for many years they've used the industrial product Pearl Glo that comes in plastic gallon jugs and poured it into their own bar bottles to make it look homemade - but the result was ok if you closed your eyes. No fancy liquor brands in their house drinks. Pearl Glo has largely gone away but they've replaced it with some other chemical laden mix. I understand pricing of $15 margaritas when you make your own mix or use quality liquor, but this is just bargain basement stuff. I'm a Texan and an avid tex-mex fan who has been sorely disappointed with 'Mexican' food here in NorCal. Vive Sol has been my one place that I found ok over the years, but not anymore. Tonight I have to give it a below average rating because of the pricing, hours, lack of chips, low end drinks..... I am soooooo sad. I love California, but when it comes to Mexican food, I have to admit I long for the many affordable 24/7 mexican restaurants of San Antonio.... Please don't tell me to go back to Texas. Amazing food and drinks! This is lowkey now one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Mountain View! I'm obsessed with their spicy salsa and chips and their margaritas are fantastic. If you like lychee, go for the X-rated, it was by far my favorite. For food, the veggie burrito is gigantic so I definitely recommend sharing or taking it to go if it's not coated in sauce. The enchiladas were also amazing. The mole sauce was so rich and Smokey and the guajillo sauce reminded me of an Indian curry. Tried the Guajillo and the Nuevas sauces this time and they were interesting as well. I felt like trying two creamy sauces this time again but it was definitely overpowering, so next time I might try one of each or two non creamy salsas.
