There are plenty of options in choosing frames, from affordable to trendy name brands. And if you don't find your match, they have a few other optometry offices nearby in the Bay Area for a wider selection. Dr. Haw and her staff went above and beyond to make my visit comfortable. Everyone was so friendly, you felt like you've known them for years! I got there really early for my appointment, so instead of just sitting and waiting in the front office, the girls up front helped me find frames that look great on me, so when the eye exam was over, I didn't need to spend time doing all of that. And the glasses came in less than a week! When I scheduled the appointment, I wanted two consecutive times so my boyfriend and I could come together. I rarely leave a bad review. I'd been here few years ago. The Optometrist was great (and that's why I put in 2 stars) and did a detailed examination. But the support staff is horrible - 1) Rude to interact with customers 2) Didn't explain my insurance benefits clearly and I would have ended up paying a lot more if I would have bought contact lenses from them. I chose to visit Valley Vision Optometry in Castro Valley and Dr. Liao did an excellent job explaining the benefits and to make sure I was getting maximum benefits out of the insurance and pay the least possible out of pocket. read more

With over 40 years experience in the Bay Area going to different eye doctors, this practice is by far the best I've ever gone to. Dr. Haw is hands down one if the most talented eye doctors I've ever seen. I'm a complicated case with a detached retina, macular pucker, astigmatism, cataracts and more. I wear both contacts and glasses, and I'm not one of those easy quick patients. Dr. Haw was kind, patient and in a word ... brilliant! For the 1st time in decades, I'm seeing better than ever thanks to her expertise. She has the latest equipment, and is up on the latest medical training in the field of vision and eye health. This practice is outstanding, from the front desk staff to helping with insurance, they are professionals and just terrific. If I could give them more than five stars I would. I never in a million years thought I would find an optometrist I LOVE rather than tolerate. Dr. Haw is wonderful, her staff is wonderful. I cannot rave about them enough. The doctor I had been seeing in the city for the last few years examined my whole family, just like Dr. Haw did. But Dr. Haw took a look at my eyes and told me I actually didn't need reading glasses. But more importantly, she heard me complain of light sensitivity, and checked to see if my insurance covered sunglasses, which they did! (Mind you, my doc in SF heard me complain of light sensitivity for YEARS and never once looked into prescription sunglasses for me). I am now the proud owner of a FABULOUS (I do not say this lightly) new pair of Kate Spade sunglasses, which the entire office staff and the doctor helped me pick out, even though it took me nearly an hour to decide and I kept having them take pictures of each pair to text to my husband to get his opinion. They were helpful, engaged, and never made me feel rushed or like a pain in the butt, even though I took a long time to decide. Even better, Dr. Haw was able to diagnose my son with Accommodative Dysfunction, a condition he has apparently had for a long time that has made it hard for him to read. Our old optometrist couldn't tel us why his reading glasses didn't entirely fix his vision problems, but Dr. Haw was able to tell us what was going on in less than five minutes. The bad news is that glasses will not entirely help, but the good news is that she was up front about that, and told us that they wouldn't fix the problem entirely, and left it up to us whether we wanted to buy glasses or not. I love that she was up front about everything, and considered the impact of buying glasses on our pocketbook, rather than hers. What a wonderful eye doctor! I had such a great experience there I can't wait for my next eye exam! *****UPDATE 10/15/13 I needed a referral to another eye doctor and the initial name she gave me just stopped taking my insurance. I called the office to let them know this an request some other names from them. They asked if I would mind waiting until the next day because the doctor wasn't in (one day, are you kidding me? NOT a problem) and I got a call back from them today (exactly one day later). Instead of a list of a few names, which is what I was expecting, that I would then get to spend a bunch of time calling to find out if they take my insurance, I got ONE name because the staff had already taken the time to call around to see who accepted my insurance!!! I've always been pleased with the service at Visual Insight. The office is clean, almost too clean. I was right on time for my appointment and was taken back immediately for the preliminary tests by MaryAnn immediately. I then saw Dr. Haw and she's very thorough and easy to talk to. She really took her time explaining laser surgery options if I decided to go that route in the future. The front desk has always been friendly and helpful. MaryAnn was patient in showing me the new styles, especially helpful since I can be indecisive. She didn't rush me even though other customers had come in for assistance too. Once I hopped off my parents' health insurance plan a few years ago, I was in search of a more conveniently located optometry office. Looking through Yelp, Visual Insight Optometry was at the top of the list, and all I read were great reviews! Since this place is less than 10 minutes from my house, I decided to check it out. One of my favorite things about this office is that they're open on Saturdays! I usually don't have time during the week, so weekend appointments are my only option. The location is great since it's located in a small plaza to the left of CVS. There's plenty of parking available. You're greeted when you arrive, and staff is so friendly and helpful. As indecisive as I am, everyone was extremely patient with me while I picked out frames, and they've even made suggestions on what would suit me based on my face shape, skin tone, etc. Dr. Haw is extremely knowledgeable, willing to answer all your questions and concerns, and she's very easy to talk to. Another great thing about this place is their wide selection of frames. Each time I've gone, they've had the most up-to-date styles, trends, and brands. The only reason I'd ever stop coming here is if I move to a different state... Even then, I'd consider flying back for an annual eye exam! read more

Dr. Haw fitted me with proper daily contact lens (nearsighted with astigmatism) and which drastically improved my vision. I had tried at least 5 brands (for astigmatism) in the past and none of them cured my vision problem. With just one try, she found the perfect fit instead of having me just wearing contacts that don't correct for astigmatism, which is what I have done for the last 20 years. The front desk lady that helped me (don't know her name, but has pretty light green/gray eyes) select the my glasses was efficient and didn't try to oversell. I asked for an inexpensive pair because I wear the glasses for maybe 10 minutes a day at home and she found several pairs that the insurance company covered completely. I've finally found my eye doctor! I moved to the East Bay almost three years ago and have tried out two other eye doctors in the area; both can't compare to Visual Insight Optometry. I don't often write reviews, but I feel that this business deserves recognition for the outstanding service they provided us. The receptionist, Maryanne, was very sweet and polite. My father went in for an eye infection; they were able to help him and because of their prompt assistance, he was back to normal in a couple of days. From my experience with medical offices, it tends to be a grueling process having to fill out paperwork, going back and fourth with insurances, etc. but our experience here was nothing short of perfect. This is a very efficient, courteous, and compassionate establishment. Thank you Dr. Harano and staff for taking good care of my dad! Very bad experience so far...they say the glasses are ready in up to 10 days. Now 10 days later, they never called us for pick-up so we did. They somehow saying that 10 day should count from Monday, not from Friday but would check with their outsourced glasses vendor what's going on and let us know. 5 minutes later they told us that they found their vendor was screwed up our order and canceled it. So now we have to wait another 5 business days. The optometry never found this out if I didn't call them what's going on read more

Just had my first eye exam in 20 years. The office staff was great. She was very nice, helpful and courteous. The office itself is beautiful. They have a large selection of frames. I found a pair I love. The doctor was great. She has a great bedside manner. She was very friendly, explained all procedures clearly and answered all my questions completely. She was very patient with fitting me with a prescription. She took her time to ensure that I was going to get the glasses that would fit all my environments. I came in looking for a new set of frames and some Oakley prescription sunglass lens. Dr. Haw and the staff are very nice and helpful. They have great eye exam equipments. It was painless and quick. This place has a large inventory of frames and great brand names. The location has plenty of parking. I was on the fence on deciding to go with transitions on my new set of frames. The staff is very knowledgable and pointed me out to the right direction on what works with me. It was very convenient that they could switch out my Oakley sunglass lens for a polarized prescription lens. They can special order any prescription Oakley sunglasses for you. It's great that they are open half days on Saturday when I have a busy schedule during the weekdays. They take all major vision insurance so there is no need to worry. I got my frames done and my Oakley prescription lens swapped out in a very timely manner. I did not have to wait long for the turnaround. This is a great place to get some pair of frames and lens.
