This place is extremely unorganized. I came here last year with the same insurance and had no issues but then I came in today and got a bunch of sass from the front desk lady who kept saying she had no clue what insurance I had and had never heard of it. They tried to tell me I'd have to pay out of pocket and figure it out later which is not how my insurance works at all. They also tried to tell me they were not in my network even though I showed them where my networks website showed a dozen optometrists working through their office who accepted my insurance. I went into Visionworks in Herndon on 18 Oct 23 for an update to my contact lens which was written in May 2023. The reason I went there is because it was listed as an in network provider that accepts Tricare Prime East. Fort Belvoir told me that they don't see retirees, only active duty. However, the May 2023 was written by an optometrist who is currently assigned there. I have been seeing him since prior to 2016. So, I sought a network provider atnd so TRICARE referred me to Visionworks. Prior to my appointment at Visionworks, I relayed the reason for visiting to Tyler. So, prior to the prelimary tests that are done prior the Optometrist's exam, I mentioned the reason I was there - to update my prescription from multi-focal to single lens, she conveyed my concerns. Dr. Baron came out from his exam with the patient he was seeing. In an open space where I was sitting and in close proximity to other patients, he proceeded to tell me in a loud and condescending voice, that since my exam was over six months ago, I would have to do another exam because my prescription exceeds their three month threshold. He reiterated what the technician told me that TRICARE doesn't cover contact lens prescription so there would be a cost over the regular exam that is covered. I was not told this prior to the visit that updating my prescription would NOT be covered. I was prepared for a co-pay but not $70-120 for the contact lens portion. I was embarrassed by the loudness and imperious tone in which he spoke to me. So I would NOT recommend this clinic, specifically Dr. Barron. I absolutely will not return to this location. I went here after moving to the area and since I am already an established patient at Visionworks but I'll definitely be going to another location for my subsequent visits. I went for my annual vision exam with contacts. The exam itself was fine, nothing particularly good or bad there, but the office staff were very rude and unorganized. I was told my contacts would be shipped home in a few weeks and around 2 months later - no news. The website kept going back and forth from saying they're working on it to not being able to find the order, and then it said the contacts were at the store for pickup which is not what I was told. When I called the store to figure out if I could pick them up, they said (rudely) contacts are shipped home and not kept at the store. I contacted Visionworks customer service and they said the contacts are in fact at the store. The next day I called the store, I was kept on hold for over 45 minutes until I hung up. When I called the next day, another lady said pretty quickly that my contacts are there. When I went to pick up my contacts, I asked what was the confusion with the order and they just shrugged. A lot of time could have been saved if they put a little more effort into their patient/customer care, but I'm definitely not wasting more time with this location read more

I had an appointment with them back in the end of September last year and everything went smoothly and they told me I would get a notification when ready and I did for one of my glasses on October 6th but then it hit December 6th and still no word so I went to the office and the night shift couldn't find them, the man looked in all containers and looked up my information and it came up that something had gone wrong in the lab while my second ones were being prepared but my order is not longer in the system so I can't even be updated so they said the doctor would call when they're ready.. February 8th 2023 , I decided I was way too fed up for these people to have my $270 of my hard earned money and I have one of my pair of glasses .. Customer service here is absolutely disgusting. First, the front desk called me to remind me of my appointment - called me him/he after I told her 3 times I am a women and and she. She responds "I know your a women but the appointment is for him" ... like hello are you not listening?! If you can't listen to my name how can you listen to what I need for glasses? Second, I called to get my prescription emailed to me and after 27 minutes on hold someone just hung up on me. So when I called back asking to speak to a manger THE SAME WOMEN SAYS I AM THE MANAGER. So your the manager and you treat customers this way, nice. Third, my husband went in there 2 weeks before Christmas to get me a gift card, was ignored by 3 employees and when someone finally decided to talk to him they told him they needed a manger to create a gift card .... 20 minutes of waiting nothing. I had my eye exam at this location last year and that was horrible too, there was one "doctor" walking around saying "that's not my job, I don't get paid enough to see this many people" Like WTF is going on?! First I understand the challenges with COVID and the pressure it puts on small business. I had my eye exam at this facility and the doctor was great! When it came to ordering my contacts, that's when things went south. After getting a trial pair, I returned to the store to order them. The sales associate informed me they would have to order them so I prepaid in May. It is now December and I am still trying to pick up contacts I purchased in May. I have left several messages with individual and even stopped by the store. If this can't be resolved this week I will forward this to my credit card company to have them dispute it. I did not have a good experience as they damaged my Person frame and the lens quality was not what I expected. My experience was not positive. Tamanna, my service supervisor did what was professional, credited my account for the lens and promised to speak with her manager about the damaged Persol frame. Wow - just finished a survey from Vision Works and decided to also share my experience here. Amazed but not really at the consistency of feedback about the sales associate experience. Exact same- I had a really welcoming experience by the lady who did my eye test and Dr. Barron is awesome! Then it just went downhill. I'm sad to say I left the store feeling unwelcome and an inconvenience by the sales supervisor. After spending over $400 for glasses - I question whether it's worth it to keep going back as a loyal customer or cut my losses and go somewhere else. read more

My wife went to this location to get contact lenses. She had her exam and paid for the annual supply. They told her that lenses will come in the mail. We did received lenses a week later, however it was 6 month supply instead of annual. Once my wife called them they told her that she paid for 6 month not for annual. Receipt clearly states "annual supply" and this is what she was buying to begin with. Lady over the phone told her to comeback and get missing lenses My wife went to their office again, however, manager was rude and she wanted us to pay extra. She simply didn't listen and didn't care about what we paid for and what receipt states. What a joke. My wife is too kind and doesn't like to deal with rude people, so she left. If you're looking for terrible customer service, this is the place to go. I've been going here for years to buy contact lenses and prescription eyewear as I have VSP Insurance and am forced to go here for their services. Every time I go I become more and more appalled with the customer service (COVID restrictions, or not). The sales floor is a free for all with employees simply telling you to sit down and wait an undisclosed amount of time. Employee attitudes become snarky and unnecessarily rude at the flip of a switch. The doctor on staff has always been pleasant but for most customers that isn't the reason why they're there. read more

I had an eye exam and they would not even give me prescription. They said I needed to come back two more times and then, after I bought the contacts from them, they would give me my prescription. i have been on hold for over 45 minutes without a response trying to change my second appointment for contact training. I needed my prescription sent to me via email since I was traveling, and needed an emergency pair of glasses. After waiting on hold for quite some time, I was informed by a rude employee that the doctor was off and they would not be able to assist me for at least 3 days. After patiently trying to explain that it was an emergency, they told me they would call me back in two hours, but of course, they never did. So, I tried calling again, and after waiting on hold again, the employee informed me that the other doctor was "just too busy to assist me". Horrific customer service. Do not ever go to this place. If I could give negative stars, I would. I had to go back 5 times to get a pair of glasses done correctly. I'm not even exaggerating - 5 TIMES!! They never called like they said they would when the glasses arrived. They screwed up the lenses and then when they came back they had put the same exact, WRONG lenses in. On my 3rd visit (after them not calling for a month) I came in and found out they never shipped the 3rd order out. Got the order wrong 2x! Then I had to come back and get a 2nd exam bc they screwed up so bad. 5th visit finally got the glasses & the manager puts them in some generic case and doesn't even give me a cleaning cloth - had to ask. She said they were out - I told her to find one! She found it. lol There's some guy playing on his phone at the front desk. The manager is mean and has a chip on her shoulder and is rude to her employees. I won't even write complete sentences bc this sh!th0le doesn't even deserve proper grammar or punctuation. I finally called corporate and filed a complaint. They said the regional manager would call me back. Never did - called again - he 2x never called & I finally just gave up. I ordered my glasses from the Herndon location paid over the phone to the rest in location got a text message stating my glasses were ready for pick up I go to the Herndon location and they tell me they don't know where my glasses are. I got my annual eye exam with Dr. Scott Barron and he was by far one of the best (if not the best) eye doctor, I've ever been to. He was professional, kind, knowledgeable, patient, and DETAILED. You see, I've been wearing glasses sense I was about 8, so I've seen MANY, MANY eye doctors over the years. Aside from that, he discovered that my current lenses were too strong. And before I forget, after I told him how I've never been able to get the air puffs because I blink too much, unlike other doctors, he insisted on trying and he took it upon himself to do it and he successfully administered those puffs that test the pressure in your eyes. I have not been able to get those in SO many years. Moving along, after my exam, I had the pleasure of working with Damaris who helped me get fitted for my frames. I went in knowing which frames I wanted so I didn't have to search for anything (I actually changed my vision insurance so that I could come to VisionWorks to get the frames that I wanted). Another young lady, helped me find a pair of sunglass frames and she pulled up all of my options and went and gathered each pair so that I could try them on. Damaris was kind, professional, and provided stellar customer service. In fact, EVERYONE in the store was. It was incredibly busy when I went, but they each made sure to give each customer their undivided attention. Damaris made me confident in my frame selection and her customer service, along with Dr. Barron's impressive skills, and the rest of the awesome staff are the reasons why I'll return to this location for my eye exam and eyewear needs. read more

This location is very close by and I've ordered contacts through them twice already so I decided to go in today to replenish my contact supply and purchase a new pair of glasses. When I came in, I was greeted and told to take a seat while they checked my temperature and gave me hand sanitizer. This was my first time there post-covid so I didn't realize I needed an appointment but the person I spoke with consulted the manager and ensured I was ok to shop for glasses. I definitely appreciated how careful they were with covid concerns. I was given plenty of time to find a couple of pairs of glasses that I liked since they had a special going on for getting two for the price of one! I sat with Tamanna who was helpful, and courteous and answered all my questions regarding the glasses. She was nice and ensured I was happy with my purchase. Made a last minute appointment for a eye and contact exam. Was a bit concerned given some of the very negative Yelp reviews, but the office is close to my house and they had an opening so I went with it In short, my experience was excellent in all ways, so if there actually were customer service issues at some point, they have been resolved. I met with Dr. Mohanan, who was thorough and very nice throughout. I needed contacts pending a LASIK touchup, and she patiently worked with me first get the proper prescription and then to relearn putting contacts in after not having worn them for a couple of decades. The tall gentleman (seemed to be running the office and also doing tech work) and two ladies working the optical part of Visionworks were all very friendly. They were attentive to my questions, but in no way pressured me as was noted in previous posts. I'd refer folks to this place without hesitation. read more

I am surprised to see some of the negative reviews regarding this office. My experience here has been excellent in every way imaginable. Dr. Barron did my exam, and unlike other providers in the past that I felt rushed me through "option A, option B" choices to the point where I doubted my own answers, he took the time I needed without hesitation. He examined the many pairs of glasses I brought with me to determine why none of them were quite right, and wrote prescriptions that would actually be helpful to me going forward. The office staff was extremely friendly, and Nadeem really did a marvelous job of putting me at ease, encouraging me to try frames that were not the same old thing I'd always had and explaining proper care of maintenance for my glasses. He was very attentive, and even though I tend to be a bit of a talker, he never made me feel like I was taking up too much of his time, despite the office being busy. I didn't feel pressured in any way to get more than I needed, but he laid out my options in a very clear way so I could make a decision that worked for me. My husband also needed glasses, so we specifically made an appointment on a day Nadeem would be there, simply because he was so welcoming and helpful. Do not go unless you wanted to be treated like trash! The office staff is incredibly rude and incompetent. Took me 5 days just to place an order for contacts because no one could bother to stay on the phone long enough. Then the office staff messed up the order 2 weeks later when I came to pick it up. When I complained the manager was horrible and had absolutely no manners. The manager Debra is the worst person there. My wife and I have been coming to Visionworks for many years. We see Dr Barron regularly for our eye exams. We find him to be professional, thorough and answers all our questions. We usually book our appointments through Marcia or Hannah and they make sure we get the possible sales promotion. This is important because we are both retired and do not have optical insurance. I concede that we might save money by buying our glasses online, but we are willing to pay extra for the care we get from Marcia, Hannah and the rest of the staff. Last year while on vacation in Florida my wife needed her glasses adjusted. We went to the Visionworks there and they fixed her glasses immediately and made sure they fit her properly. My wife started her search for new glasses at Visionworks in Reston. Absolutely horrible customer service. I asked them to file a claim with medicare and the manager refused! The guy was argumentative and we started yelling when I told him that he was required by Medicare. After refusing me over and over we left and went to Visionworks in Herndon. Night and Day, Herndon provided the absolute best customer service. Management did everything possible to be sure of her complete satisfaction. She picked the buy 1 get 1 special, and realized that 1 pair was too large for her face. The manager let her exchange that pair for another at no cost! Service has tanked. I'm sure because of covid, but these past few months have been very frustrating . A few months ago I ordered contacts. Never got a call when they were ready. A couple of weeks ago I got an exam, doctor was great as always. He told one of their girls to order a trial pair of contacts. Two weeks past and I call to see if they were in, they said yes. I went to pick them up and they gave me two boxes that I ordered 6 months ago and had already received. Told them I was there to pick up the trials. After an hour and a half they said that they weren't even ordered. So I asked if she could call another store. She said that she called 3 and is having them overnighted. That was 4 days ago. Okay, I also understand how the other reviewers are feeling: definitely come for the optometrists, beware of everyone else in the office. No place is ever perfect, so if you read nothing else in my review, at least know that you will get the quality exam you need, so I encourage you to make an appointment. Just be ready for the other employees outside the exam room and you'll be fine. Okay, now for the details if you want it. I've had an awesome experience with two separate optometrists, so I know it's no accident. Dr. Barron and Dr. Beck are 10/10 unquestionably experienced and a pleasure to visit. Dr. Barron is probably one of the nicest I've had and patiently answered all my questions. Dr. Beck delivered a straight forward diagnosis for an infection I had that clearly demonstrated his knowledge on all things eye balls and more. The reason why I contemplated a few times on switching offices, is because some of the sales folks can be pretty rough. Sometimes it's how they talk to me as a customer, sometimes it's the pitch behind what they're saying. Honestly, it's a toss up so I'll usually end up coming back thinking, "well maybe that person won't be there this time," and luckily they usually aren't. I think it's one of those things that just come with the business. You have to have sales, I get it. Also, people come and go as employees and some hires are bad and some hires are great. I just think a business should own a standard for quality even if it means putting a little more scrutiny on individual interactions. I mean, I even had someone get pretty pushy on "advice" that really questioned the value of my concerns about the fit of my new contacts--before I even finalized my appointment for a follow up with a doctor! I mean, please just let me have my consultation, I'm sorry you think I'm a dum dum! I guess I wanted warn you folks about the inconsistent experience because I love the docs so much, you just need to be warned ahead of time about everyone else so you won't be surprised if it happens. Worse customer service. Went to my eye Apt, doctor was great. After appointment for potential contacts, Doctor stated he would order tests for trial. After Apt sat down with this really bad customer service person who state I couldn't get my test contacts with out ordering a months worth. How can I order contacts with out making sure they work first. So I let cause it made no sense, called them later to see if there was a way to get test ones ordered. They said 2 weeks they would be here. 2 weeks later no call. Called them and they say oh we don't know why they aren't here but will call me back tomorrow.. seems likely they Will not let me know why my test contacts haven't come in. Talked to multiple people everyone telling me they would call me back next day never did. Seems like they haven't ordered it since no one seems to know what's going on. I only gave two stars because Dr. Barron is phenomenal and I've been seeing him since I was a kid. Unfortunately the main salesman whose name I didn't catch but had a very distinct accent (you'll know it when you hear it) was less than pleasurable. I felt like add-ons were being pushed on me even though I only really wanted a basic lens since I use my glasses only a few times a week as needed. And as soon as I made that clear his attitude completely changed and I was more or less dismissed and tossed my prescription. Unacceptable. My entire family used to come here and even though Dr. Barron is the best it's not worth dealing with people like that. I have been going here for years and really like dr. Barron. I needed a pair of glasses adjusted and called last week to see if I needed an appointment. I was told I did not and that they had changed their hours and opened at 9 instead of 10. Since I have an underlying medical condition I try to get to places when they open if I go out. I arrived at 9 today and found the door locked and the lights off, but could see a person inside. There was a sign on the door noting the new hours which included a 9 opening (the website also says 9). After about 5 minutes the person inside came to the door and told me they opened at 10. I mentioned the sign on the door and my call last week and was told that just meant she was there at 9 not that they opened at 9. After explaining what I needed she reluctantly let me in and completed the adjustment on my glasses. She did not turn the lights on, was not wearing a mask and never unlocked the door. If a place of business advertises an opening time that usually means that's when the doors open and they let people in not when the employees start working. I'm not sure if this employee was just confused, but visionworks lost a sale because I was also going to order new lens for another set of frames but felt so uncomfortable and like I was intruding that I left after having my glasses adjusted. Visionworks should either adjust their signage regarding the opening times or educate their employees. read more
