Doctor Khalil was great, extremely knowledgeable and personable. He explained what he was doing with each part of the exam and even went over the imagery he took of the back of my eyes. He also didn't dilate my eyes since I had to drive back to work but found another way to take the photos of the back of my eyes by helping me to relax enough so he'd have enough time to capture them. The only reason I couldn't give this establishment 5 stars is because I'm a non smoker and extremely sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke and from the time I walked in the door it was all I could smell. That aside I would highly recommend Dr Khalil. His receptionist was helpful and friendly. She tried to help me pick out sunglasses for example because one of my cardinal sins is not wearing sunglasses to protect my eyes. Customer service here definitely needs improvement from both the front desk and the optometrist. The optometrist came off as very condescending from the start of his interactions with me and the front desk lady needs to be a bit more clear when she's talking. I could not understand a lot of what she was explaining to me as it came out in chopped and/or whispery sentences. Overall, it was a quick exam - 20 or less minutes and the wait time was about 10 minutes as a new customer. I think Dr. Khalil definitely knows his stuff but he should work on being a bit more friendly as well as explaining what parts of the eye exam are for what. I had to explicitly ask what machine I was putting my eyeball into versus him letting me know and that made me a bit uneasy. Also, if you do go here, make sure you verify what is and isn't covered by your insurance because the staff at this place won't track that and you may end up paying for something that you didn't originally intend to. Example: I got the retina picture without knowing that it was not covered so that was a $30 expense that I did not intend on having. Overall, the place was efficient for an eye exam but I don't feel enough trust in the staff (mainly due to their lack of communication) to where I would want to get my glasses from them. My mom and I went in to get our glasses tightened before leaving for vacation the next day, and what ensued was a horrible experience. When the lady handed me back my glasses after tightening them it was all blurry and I could see a web of cracks in the anti reflective coating on my lenses. (After researching I believe it's called crazing caused by heat from the frame warmer) I brought this up because I couldn't see out of them and her response was "I can't do anything because I didn't touch the lenses, the spray just cleaned them so well now you can see the scratches" I asked about ordering new lenses and she said "I didn't do anything so I can't order them and they would take 7-10 days to get here" and when I asked about rushing them she said they can't. Then she said "I can't order anything today anyways because the Dr isn't here and we are closing soon" they close at 4 and it was 2:45. After a few minutes of this back and forth of her lying and clearly trying to say anything she could to NOT help me the dr walks out. So he was there after all listening to the whole exchange.... after a little more back and forth, he gave us a 50$ discount and we left after spending 120$ on new lenses. When we went back to get my lenses we tried to speak to Dr Khalil about our experience and the rude, unpleasant customer service but he did not want to hear it at all. I told him how the receptionist spoke to us but he did not care. He said "I came in here today just to put in your lenses" as if that was supposed to make me feel better about having to change my flight and buy new lenses...but then a couple minutes later after saying "what do you want me to do about it I'll give you a refund if you don't want the lenses" (well I NEED to be able to see so don't really have a choice) he said "this isn't going anywhere and I have another patient so if you want your lenses then we need to wrap this up" he was completely rude. They gave a 6 month warranty for the new lenses but didn't offer to pay for the lenses or take any responsibility for what happened even if it was just an accident or a fluke. At the end of the day it's about the rude service we received. This would've been a completely different experience if they would've just put in a little effort to be helpful. Now I'm stuck with lower quality lenses than my previous ones that were not even a year old, because I can't afford the 70$ extra it would've been for the AR coating. I will NEVER go back. If I could leave a review of NO stars I would. This place is absolutely worthless. I called in advance to make an appointment for an eye exam. I gave the "lady" (who was very nice nasty by the way) who took my call my information: name, address, phone number, date of birth, and insurance information. We then set the appointment for today at 11:15. I arrived about 15 minutes early to give myself time to find the place and fill out any information as I would be considered a new patient. The lady at the front desk was not overly friendly at all. Turns out they don't take my insurance and I've wasted my time and gas coming here when i could've avoided this all together had they been upfront about not taking my insurance at the time of booking. Bad business. *Update* I received a private message from the owner threatening to expose me for having Medicaid insurance. This is by no means shameful for me neither should it be for any person who may be subscribed. I do NOT lie and have no reason to. The lady I spoke with to book the appointment took down my insurance number, phone number, name, address and all other things I stated before via the phone. I found the place by CALLING MEDICAID INSURANCE for providers that would accept my plan. I am very informed on anything that I subscribe to. I hate I ran across this place such a WORTHLESS and RIDICULOUS establishment that is full of liars who look down their noses at those like me with Medicaid insurance. What a shame. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr. Khalil and his team. As a 23 year old who has just moved to the area I was very nervous about going to a new dr. I was immediately greeted with a warm welcome from the lovely front desk lady. She helped me figure out my insurance and get the best rates and rebates for my contacts. Dr. Khalil was one of the warmest dr's I have ever met. He made me feel comfortable and taught me many things about my eyes I did not know before. He gave great advice and also cracked a few jokes! Called to get info about specials listed on their website and was told that they no longer honor them....seems like a bait and switch. I inquired about how much a contact lens exam would be and was quoted almost twice as much as the special listed on their own site plus the cost of contacts. I was also told that the Dr. would discount the eye exam some unspecified amount. I decided not to go here since based on the first interaction no clear information was actually provided. Pros: Dr. Khalil is a great eye doctor. He is kind, he listens to you, offers practical advice and answered all my questions. And I like using businesses in my neighborhood. Cons: Expensive! The frames that I liked was $400 and with my progressive lens, the total came out to around $700+. I turned down their offer. I bought designer frames (Kate Spade) from Amazon.com for less than $150 and decided to only do single vision vs. progressive. New total came out to $180. My advice: Buy your own lens. I rarely give negative reviews, but in this case I think it's necessary. The appointment itself was fine, but I don't think anyone in that office is familiar with how insurance works. First, my grand total was $430, $120 for the contact fitting, $370 for contacts, and $40 for visual analysis and the fundus photograph (of the back of the eye- and no he didn't tell me there would be a fee for that). I have never paid that much for contacts and I have been ordering daily contacts for years. It turns out it was because the doctor had recommended the most expensive line of acuvue contacts, which I can't fault him for as I guess it's possible he truly thought those were the best. However, I called my vision insurance company and they said there are 5 types of contacts which they will cover in full (4 boxes) and if I order one of those types through a provider who takes my insurance, the contact fitting fee would be reduced to $15 as well (down from $120). I called Khalil Eye back that day and was treated rudely by the receptionist who seemed very confused by what I was explaining although she did cancel the contact order and refunded that portion to me. She finally admitted that she was not their "insurance person," but that person would be in on Monday and that she would give me a call then. I received no call on Monday, so I called the office. The same receptionist answered, seemed confused by my call again and told me that the "insurance person" would be in Tuesday afternoon. I called Tuesday afternoon and the same receptionist told me I should have called in the morning. She then put the doctor on the phone and he seemed to understand the situation after I explained it and said he would review my file and call me first thing Wednesday. I received no call on Wed (surprise!), so I stopped by the store. When I walked in, I said that I had been calling about issues with my insurance. The SAME receptionist said "Your insurance doesn't cover contacts! Do you need to see the paperwork?" I said that's not what the insurance company said on the phone. She said "Isn't your name April?" That's when I finally asked for my prescription. I'll be ordering elsewhere, although I'm still out the $120 for the fitting. Save yourself lots of time, money, and headaches and go anywhere else. read more

Reston/Herndon peeps...PSA, I have used Dr. Khalil optometrist (@ northpoint) before, left and now came back to get glasses for 4 of us. Now I remember why I left! This time they submitted to insurance for contacts...which 2 have NEVER worn. (Was told it was a mistake by someone new to submitting insurance claims). Screwed up 2 pairs of glasses (blame went to the girls who clean them... when it was clearly a cloudiness created by cutting plastic), supposedly remade and was the exact same issue. Wanted to cancel order, told me to wait, don't call insurance (since by contract they had to use their lab for ALL glass orders). That's when I found out about the contacts. Received glasses for my boys, which i was told were made in-house and not by the contracted insurance company. Canceled the other 2 and according to my insurance company our responsibility was about $150 less for the glasses that I cancelled! Been after them to resubmit the glasses order for the boys to insurance...constantly being told that they don't make any money on contacts and we got a deal...a "win win" (their words) for us. Unprofessional front desk (not Lena), throwing each other under the bus. Oh, and after paying, I had asked for a copy of the prescription, Roya (sp) handed them to me and I stated that she needed to stamp the dr.'s name, she asked why, told her we're getting back ups at Costco. Dr. said, "you should support small businesses ", my husband turned around and said "I just spent $1500 dollars supporting your small business". I hope others have had better experiences. Never again! I had a groupon (you get what you pay for, or in this case less). The dr. Tried everything he could to get me to pay more than I had already paid for the groupon. He was also condescending, cheap, unfriendly, cold and unhygienic (stuck his finger in my eye to remove a contact lens with our any warning and without asking me to take them out, he just thought he'd help himself, without washing his hands!!! ..).! If that alone isn't enough to keep you away I have about 4 more incidents that are. Thinking about the whole experience and how he nickel and dimed me makes me so furious I don't even wanna go on so im just gonna say one last thing: The girls at the front desk are so incredibly unintelligent - they had no idea what they were charging me for and couldn't explain anything. Dr. Khalil's office was "covered" by my insurance, so I went to him for an exam. After much discussion about what was and was not covered with an eye exam (be careful - a contact lens exam is different than an eye exam and he will refuse to give you a prescription for both without charging extra), without asking, he added additional "features" to the eye exam and then proceeded to charge me for them, knowing that I had come in for the exam covered by my insurance. I've been wearing prescription glasses since I was a kid. Since then this is my FIRST bad experience with purchasing glasses. I live walking distance from the store so I thought I might as well give them a shot since they are so close. I got a "deal" from groupon that's $50 for an eye exam and also gives you $200 off of a pair of glasses. There was not a single pair of glasses there for under $300. It's my own fault. I fell for the hoax, but whatever. So I go in for the eye exam and the customer service there has some pretty low standards. The women working front desk looked like they were in hell just sitting there. It was depressing, quiet, and overall very awkward. The doctor was alright. It felt a bit rushed but whatever. Time is money I suppose. So I buy this stupidly expensive pair of glasses and after the first day they are falling off my face. I take them back in and the lady at the back takes them in the back and literally just bends them with her hands. Again whatever, if it works whatever. Which ultimately that does damage your frame and is not a good idea or professional at all. I take them back AGAIN, same issue, falling off. Same thing happens. They are bent so damn much that the end of the arms on the glasses are hooking my ear and the edges of the lens are cracked and popping out of the frame. BAD BUSINESS. I just called them and explained the situation and she said in literally the most snarky voice ok just bring them in. I brought them in and explained to her that when they bent the frames she cracked the lens on the edges. She said " No, we didn't "........ Uh what? How else would they end up cracked!?!?! I just got them! What kind of business blames their customers for their own mistakes? Everyone in that office seems very egotistical. I urge anyone looking into this place to seek glasses else were. We all work very hard for our money and we don't want to piss it away on people who could give a shit about quality. Update: I returned the glasses a week after I said I would so they could be returned to the manufacturer and sent back for repair. The doctor told me that they would be back by the end of the week. I returned them on a Tuesday. Come NEXT Tuesday I give them a call asking very politely if my glasses were in. She put me on hold for about 5 minutes came back and said they would be here some time this week and she will give me a call. I'm overall not a fan. BY THE WAY this is probably the third bad review I've ever given in my life. These guys are ridiculous. I tell her I'm not happy, they suck, and I want my money back. She puts me on hold and the doctor picks up. He says he's trying to please me. I said well I'm not pleased and I honestly just want my money back. He says " FINE! That's the last time I take a Groupon. " I may not make a lot of money sir, but I have morals and values that you'll never be able to uphold. Went in to see what type of glasses they have since I live just behind the shopping center though it would be a good location for me. The person sitting behind the desk tried very hard to ignore me, and was visibly annoyed by the few questions I had. The store was empty, and she had nothing else going on. Just wanted to let them know that I went to another place and bought a pair of glasses w progressive lenses that cost $1,440 before insurance. Good customer service goes a long way, and the people at this store never heard of it. NOVA Eye Doctors in Plaza America has excellent customer service, helpful people, and a huge selection of frames. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time at North Point. read more

I hadn't seen an optometrist for years, and I don't need glasses or contacts yet, but I wanted color contacts just to change it up day to day. The office had several options for me, let me try on the contacts the day of my appointment, and take a few home to wear around as well. I settled on a couple of colors I liked, and the office ordered them for me, even though one of the brands isn't usually carried in my preferred color anymore. Dr. Khalil was so nice during my first visit and took the time to explain his exams, what each was for and also showed me pictures of my eyes. My son and I had our first visit this morning with Dr. Khalil. We both left his office raving at the delightful experience. Not only was Dr. Khalil friendly and charming, but he took extra time to show me the picture of the back of my eye and explain what it meant. Asides from his impeccable manners, he helped us choose glasses and explained the various lenses and their functions. We never felt pressured about which ones to pick. I am so surprised by some of the negative reviews. I am so glad that I didn't read them because they might have impacted me into not making an appointment. Dr. Khalil came highly recommended by my doctor, and I'm so glad that I listened to him. As for dr. Dr Khalil is very knowledgeable and takes good care about the details and explaining it thoroughly. I and my wife both have been going there for our eye exams and glasses for over 5 years now. His staff is also very helpful in helping us determine the options for glasses and frames. I have been at Dr Khalil office 2 times. you need to be careful about the "extra charges" they don't tell you about. the first time he made picture of my eye and did not let me know that he would be charge me for that. It was only 20$ so I was only a little bit upset because they need to let you know if there are additional costs coming. the second time was at my second appointment. i told him that I am thinking of contact lenses and if this would make sense, because i only need reading glasses. he was so nice and told me I could try them two different lenses for some days and let him know after four days if I would like to go with lenses or glasses. He gave me 3 trial lenses and his assistant showed me (10 minutes max) how to put them in. He charged me 160 $ for that "fitting"..... afterwards, he never mentioned that he would charge me for anything. i said that I am not willing to pay for something that he is going to charge me without giving me the info that he will charge. He said everybody knows that this cost money..... I never tried or asked for lenses before, so it was not aware of. He was not very helpful, he let me pay for it anyway, he waved 60$, so it was only 100$ extra. I think this kind of business-attitude is more like fraud !!!! I am not going there again. He and his staff are pretty rude, condescending, and will try and upsell you in any way they can. I tried My Eye Doctor across the street and I still use them even though I had moved out of state. Amazing difference. I wouldn't recommend coming to Dr. Khalil unless you have very simple needs, don't want a high quality of service, and are willing to pay more. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Khalil for the next day in the afternoon. I explained that I work until 4, and the only appointment he offered was for 4pm. Since he offered an appointment next day I accepted and moved my work schedule around to accommodate the appointment. When I arrived for my appointment, there were already several other people waiting in the front area, and both of the front desk staff looked anxious and did not greet me even as I approached them. I let them know I was there for an appointment at 4pm and they promptly let me know that the doctor doesn't normally schedule appointments on thursday afternoon and he had already left for the day. I explained that he had offered this time slot to me, I did not specifically ask for it, and I was confused as to why he had offered the appointment in the first place. The front desk staff continued to repeat that he didn't normally take appointments at this time and that he had already left for the day, as if it was my fault for taking his offer for the appointment. Eventually the front desk staff were able to contact the doctor via phone and they determined that he had forgotten about my appointment (and clearly several others) and that he could come back to the office to see us. It was at this point that I decided to simply cancel the appointment and take my business elsewhere. Seeing that this is how my first interaction with them is going, I didn't really want to waste any of my time or money dealing with them. Honestly, this negative review and loss of a client could have been entirely avoided if they had simply called my phone number, which they have on file, and let me know that something had come up or even if they had called and asked me to reschedule. I would have been perfectly amicable to the idea of selecting a different date/time to meet with him. But instead they let me show up to the appointment knowing full well that he wasn't there, and then they were rude to me due to their own frustration with the situation. In general, the experience was very unprofessional and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. 0/10 would not recommend this office to anyone I know. read more

When time came to pay, he wanted to sell the most expensive options for eye glasses (not coverd under insurance), when he was questioned about the benefits of one option versus the other, he became irritated and angry claiming that doctors are not supposed to explain these details. His office front desk individual was extremely friendly but had little knowledge about the business. In my opinion, the quality experience you get with a private experienced doctor like Dr. Khalil is not even comparable to the factory-like revolving door feeling you will receive at a place like Costco (which I can say from experience). I also prefer to have somewhat of a personal relationship with my healthcare providers. Dr. Khalil is always friendly and caring and I honestly look forward to my annual appointment each year.
