After 2 years of hiding due to the pandemic, I finally came out and got my eyes checked again. Ran out of contacts and needed some ASAP! Everyone here is super friendly and very helpful. Violet took care of me and helped me take full advantage of my insurance benefits for both 2021 and what I didn't use in 2020! Do yourself a favor and skip over this location. Overall, a nightmare! The exam went well but I was prescribed biweekly contacts because I made a mistake and told the optometrist that I wore them when I first started wearing contacts and as of recently i've been wearing dailies. I haven't worn Acuvue Oasis in nearly 10 years! They didn't have my contacts in stock and they ordered me the wrong sample contacts. When I called to see if I could change my prescription, the guy told me biweekly contacts are cheaper than one day contacts. Very dismissive & led with bias! How would he know what I can afford? I wish the optometrist would've listened instead of prescribing me something I do not want. However, it was my mistake for not looking at my prescription before I left! Never will I step foot into a Visionworks again. read more

Optometrist and her assistant were very nice. The portion of the eye exam with the actual optometrist was very brief & basic--no slit lamp or anything like that; just refraction. Main front desk staff member (female maybe in her 20s or 30s, maybe white, maybe the office manager?) was rude & unhelpful from the start. Rude about coupons I'd printed from my eye insurance company's website. Completely unhelpful with selecting frames. Annoyed when I dared ask where to find the prices for the frames on display. When I came to pick up my new glasses after about a week, the same front desk person was going to just let me walk out with them totally unfitted. I had to be a little pushy (uncomfortable for me) to get her to fit the frames to my head. As anyone who's bought glasses before knows, this process can require quite a bit of fine-tuning. Well, she acted annoyed every single time I wanted another adjustment, like it was such a huge bother. It's a normal and essential part of the process of getting new glasses... In the end, I felt uncomfortable continuing to push her to fit my frames beyond 3 or 4 adjustments, so I left with them still ill-fitting. I developed a headache on the 20-min drive home from how the new glasses were pressing behind my ears. I resigned myself to fitting them myself, warming them up with hot running water. It took me a very long time without the right tools, and the glasses never fit well on my face. They kept sliding down my nose. Anyway, my ad-hoc home fitting clearly stressed the plastic frames too much, because one arm broke within a month. Not worth it at all. That young woman at the front desk negated the work of all the other staff members. There was a nice male Hispanic staff member who took the time to help me pick out frames. There was a nice female Hispanic staff member who interjected into my conversation with the Bad Apple girl and subtly advocated for me (this was in regards to the coupons from my insurance company). After $200 and significant time spent, I'm no better off, with a pair of broken glasses I've glued back together twice now because they keep re-breaking, and my eye benefits for the year all exhausted. read more

If you want to be treated poorly by the "optometrist", go through a questionable eye exam with questionable results, go here. I wish I had read the yelp reviews before I went in... Keep in mind, the one star is ONLY for the blonde guy at the front desk. He was the only person there that had a personality and gave me a positive experience. He was such a nice person!!! As for the rest, TERRIBLE. The lady that gave me the initial exam provided no instruction and was getting frustrated with me for blinking during the air puff test, and for not knowing how to use one of their machines. The "optometrist" was the worst. He didn't even tell me his name, and spoke so fast that it was obvious he wanted me in and out the door. My eyes were still adjusting after having an extremely bright green laser flash my eyes from the initial exam, but I guess that didn't matter to him. The room they had me go into after was warm, so the exam lenses kept fogging up. Whenever the "optometrist" told me to read the letters on the wall, I realized I couldn't by because of the foggy lenses. He kept wiping it so I could see, but at some point he got frustrated and told me to put some random contacts on. I had no idea what contacts he had me put on, so I asked politely. He got REALLY sassy with me as if I forgot why I was even there, and was just being downright condescending. If it weren't for my upcoming trip, and if COVID hadn't made it difficult to book an eye exam, I would have stormed off without giving them a dime. This place sucked. read more

Store closes at 7pm. Showed up 6:30. The door said be right back sign. Half the lights were shut off. The lady with purple hair was the very rude. Told her I have valid Rx and need to pick out my glasses. She refused stating that she will have to clean all the glasses I touched and they close at 7pm and she still has to count the money. WHAT!? Yes you close at 7pm. It's way before it, you have to serve your costumer! Did I mention she was extremely rude through out this whole experience ?!!!! Been here before, have tried on glasses. My 1-Day ACUVUE daily contact lenses came before my trials, but when I picked up my contact lenses I was informed that the if I opened the contact lenses box, I would not be refunded if the prescription was not right. I waited a 1-1/2 months for the trials, which were in the drawer! I was told that I would receive an email and I did not receive that either. Went to the Visionworks in Tinley Park, IL just for a new script for my new glasses I had purchased. They wanted to do a pressure test. I told them I just had an extensive tests done by an ophthalmologist a month ago and did need one. They check to see if I could get my vision test done with the doctor and they said no. They could have got my test results from my other doctor. So needless to say I left. I will no longer go to Visionworks again. Any other doctor would have looked at those results. It has nothing to do with my script to fill my lenses. KI even noted it on my online appointment notes to them. If this was the case they should have let me know. read more

I was in dire need for new glasses and contacts. Never been to this location before & am sure happy I found it. Dr Bao is super knowledgeable, professional and easy to talk to. It didn't feel like a chore getting an exam! Cole was super fun, professional, and friendly and him and his associate picked out options for me to wear & were fabulous critiques. I received a solicitation in the mail offering a special deal to VSP members. I haven't had an eye exam since before the pandemic so it's been on my list of to do's. Signing up using the link was easy. I walked in for my appointment and was barely greeted. I was instructed to sit in the waiting area where I see a cockroach scurrying along the floorboard. The place looks clean but.... Ick! The person who takes me for the first round of tests doesn't introduce herself or explain what the tests are and cannot seem to keep her mask over her nose. She tries to upsell me on the retinal test but doesn't explain anything about it. She makes me sign a form declining the procedure that states I want to talk further about it with the doctor. I'm taken in for a quick exam, which was fine. The doctor was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. When I come out with my prescription for +1.25 readers, I'm told my insurance will pay $180 and to pick something out. The selection seems large but the frames feel cheap without much variability. They all look the same to me. Despite five people working, no one offers help beyond that. The $10 copay was a relief as that is about what the experience was worth to me This is a reminder to avoid the strip mall eye places and go to a local business where the people working there actually are interested in helping with vision. read more

Very disappointed by the customer service of the front desk. I give 5 stars to the doctors here - very knowledgeable and friendly! I had an eye exam and then ordered contacts. No eye contact from the front desk staff, hands me my cc back on the counter when I had my hand out. I figure ok this is a young woman needs more customer service experience, or it's the quarantine days we are allowed to have bad days. I ordered contacts for home delivery, and followed up with the store 2 weeks later after not receiving my package . I was told there might be a delay to give it a few more days. I called back 2x leaving my information for someone to call me back with an update. They couldn't even give me tracking# to show it was ordered. Here we are 4 weeks later and after I called them today I was told " you can come pick it up from the store " Not a single sorry from their staff for the inconvenience and delay. I'm pissed that I have to return to this location to pick up my 2nd package that has yet to arrive . This location needs customer service/ hospitality training ! This is the worst eye wear store I've ever been to. I usually buy my glasses from SEE Optical in Water Tower but I didn't want to pay $600 for one pair of glasses anymore. When both pair of the BOGO glasses (Sassy brand cat eye frames $199 and RayBan cat eye $199) arms were too wide for my face the sales rep tried her best to tighten them to the sides of my head. When they kept falling off after wearing them for a week I went back to return them for another pair. When I selected two new frames (both $99), the sales rep AND THE STORE MANAGER, Collin so believe tried to "an even exchange" for the new frames. How the HELL is a price difference of $200 an even exchange?! I had to force them to process a "full" return back to my credit card for the initial price which was $622.24 to the BOGO promotion. When I tried to purchase the BOGO promotion with the two pair of $99 frames, Vision Works was still trying to cheat me with a difference of only $63 between the purchase price of the initial purchase and the new purchase . They most have thought I couldn't count and notice that $137 difference. BEWARE read more

Had an appointment at 5pm. It was 6pm and never got seen. The desk personnel where really rude. When I explained that we where leaving, That they took too long they tried to pass on them he blame on the doctor. When I explained that they all work for the same people and the doctor they said we don't work for the doctor, which is fine and understandable but the way they said it. I have an email confirmation of the appointment. Some guy just called to tell me that they "attempted to confirm" the appointment so it was cancelled for tomorrow and there are no other times available. Nevermind that I scheduled my day around an appointment with them... tomorrow. Thanks for the last minute notice. The only email I received was the confirmation containing the appointment info and forms. Clearly they have my number because they called to tell me it was cancelled! I visited 2 of their stores. 1 In the Oak Lawn location, my no-line bifocals were made so that I have to turn my head 10° to the right when reading. 2 In the S. Pulaski store, the examination was lousy, done by an inexperienced student-like "doctor". When I picked up my regular bifocal glasses and was shocked, I was re-examined by a more experienced "doctor" and the redone glasses seemed fine -it's difficult to assess glasses when the difference with the old ones is very small. Now, though, after 8 months, I can tell that my previous glasses are BETTER -the new ones, made 8 months ago, have to be the worst ones that I have ever had and I can tell after I continued using the old ones ever since. read more

Normally happy with their service. Doctors are always nice and staff is helpful and as honest as they can be. But, like most eyewear stores, lots of extra and hidden fees once you checkout. The doctor for my last visit was more worried about preaching his political conspiracy theories rather than focusing on my eyes and prescription. I'm pretty sure he got my prescription wrong and he's probably still preaching to someone somewhere. Sales staff was nice as usual, but then it took almost 2 months to receive my contacts which in the end did not allow me to get my rebate. I think I'll try a new store. read more

Only selected 1 star because this app forces me to. Alexandrea the manager on duty says she's trying to help but is nothing but condescending and down right rude. I would never return to this location and I will make sure all my friends know of my negative experience I had at this location. Beware these folks will try and charge you for services without even explaining that there is an extra charge and then when you call them out on it they belittle you and talk down to you. They will try to tell you that they have never had anyone else complain about having issues. Don't believe the good reviews, these have to be fake. I go back the next day to pickup paperwork I left and I overhear an elderly lady complaining of the same thing less than 24 hours of it happening to me (remember I was the first person to complain and bring this to their attention) .... lol. I needed new glasses so I tried this place. The eye exam was $39. The eye doctor was really pleasant and explained everything. I explained to the staff what type of frames I wanted and they found them. Surprising, they didn't steer me to the most expensive frames in the place as other eye glass places tend to do. The current pricing is $99 for basic glasses / $149 for bifocals. (Yes, start thinking about bifocals if you're over 35). I needed to upgrade for an extra charge to the polycarbonate lenses because my glasses would be rather thick otherwise. For the $99 price you are limited to certain frames and you pay the difference if they are more expensive. I found some of the cheaper frames uncomfortable. You may not find some of the designer frames here, but you'll get a decent pair at a reasonable price. The staff was great. read more

For the second time, Visionworks automatically booked an annual exam for me, without my soliciting one. When I called to reschedule my appointment the employee apologized, said it happened often and scheduled an appointment for me at a later date. I am in the process of moving to a different state, so scheduled all my "final doctors' " visits around that eye exam. I received a calendar text shortly after rescheduling. I received a text 2-3 days to remind me of my pending appointment. The day of my appointment I received 1-2 reminder texts. When I called the store to apologize for running a little late I was informed they had no record of my appointment and were booked for 2 weeks. The manager offered to slide me in if the next patient didn't show up. I was almost I tears, as I'm totally out of contacts and my glasses are scratched. Just a mess. She told me their IT department t knows of scheduling problems but there wasn't anything they could do. This is the second time their auto-schedule has messed up my appointments, but this time was much more of an inconvenience. I only came to this location because they work with my insurance but would never recommend them again and will not come back. It's ridiculous. read more

I was 7 mins late to my appointment after work. When I arrived, they claimed they have a 5 minute grace period and that they didn't have time for me at all for the rest of the day. Not only was the male employee at the customer service desk extremely rude and condescending, at no point in any of my correspondence with them (including a phone call the day before) did they mention this supposed 5 minute grace period. For years I've been dealing with a specialty insurance plan that will spontaneously pull coverage and deny availability. I had tried multiple times to solve the issue and secure contact lenses independently with no results - but Linda and Jocelyn called on my behalf and argued (politely) with stubborn New Yorkers in stale call centers for the better part of 45 minutes and fixed it! I had originally followed Dr. Actipes here from the closed Visionworks on Clark St., but I'll now be back for the sincere customer service and professional excellence as much as the medical expertise. Didn't help me when I was purchasing my frames but just pointed me to the section where to look. My 2 pairs of glassed took close to 2 months to arrive in the store. I had to send emails and get in contact with someone form their corporate office to find out what was taking my order so long. Then when the glasses did arrive in the store I went to pick them up and they pretty much just handed them to me and that's it. They didn't fit them to my face, make sure the prescription was correct and that I could see with them without any problems. I only use my glasses when I'm home since I use contacts all other times. After using my glasses for about a week I noticed the fit was causing me my head to ache and my vision wasn't as sharp as it should be like it is when wearing my older pair of glasses. I attemped to contact the person who reached out to me from their corporate office but when he answered the phone he told me he was to busy to take my call and would call me back, which NEVER HAPPENED! Again, I have been purchasing glasses all my life and in the past have used companies like lens crafters, pearle vision and even a few independent stores, and I HAVE NEVER HAD a more horrible experience then I had with vision works. read more
