Doctor Deviney & crew are awesome! I first came here about ten years ago. My review back then was 5 Stars. A decade later, it remains the same. Out of curiosity, I read the negative reviews here for them and was, frankly, shocked. It seems that the few negative reviews are in regards to the office employees, even being careful to indicate that the doctor was fine. I fully support the rave reviews for Doctor Deviney. I do confess I am not the easiest patient, as I frequently have many questions and an interest in finding out what all my options are before I make a decision. Nevertheless, he is always very patient, open, and willing to engage in conversation and offer me his expertise. He is clearly a popular guy, which makes sense, but it does not prevent him from always seeing me promptly. I only remember once in the last decade when I wondered what was taking so long, but even that is negligible because it was not anything unreasonable, maybe twenty minutes. Maybe it is because he has spoiled me by always being ready to see me- once the preliminary tests are done by other members on the team- within ten minutes. Over the years there has only been one short period where there was another doctor sharing the office with him (Doctor Manasia), but she has since moved back to Houston. I did see her that one year, and she was nice enough, but I do remember being a little sad that I missed my annual or semi annual visit with Deviney. Other than the one time, it has always been him flying solo as the only optometrist running this location. Maybe a demanding task for anyone else, but Doctor Deviney has had no problems, as far as I can tell. Getting back to the other members on the team, Ariel, the office manager, is highly recommended with any inquiries or even issues you might have. Always friendly, understanding, welcoming, and even seems to remember a little about me, even though I am sure he has so many patients coming in and out that I can be but a tiny dot on his radar! Other reviewers have mentioned the ladies (Cecilia & Leticia, by my memory) not being nice to them or "curt". Anyone who reads my reviews on Google & here on Yelp knows I try to be honest- sometimes maybe brutally so. I will say that, maybe compared to Ariel, they are less outwardly initiating with their friendliness; more reserved and maybe quiet personalities. Sometimes they have also been short with me, but I am sure that is due to them being more business like rather than with any negative emotion. This should not be construed as faults. They have always been courteous when I have initiated conversation or questions. As for other complaints regarding pricing and such, this is a business; we are in a capitalist society. Only saying. I can personally vouch for them trying to give me better deals on things they can do that for, like frames, but I doubt they have much power over how much someone's insurance covers or how much to charge for standard procedures. Again, things that do have some leeway with to name things easier for the patients, such as payment plans, for example, they are also willing to offer. Anyone who reads my reviews likewise recognizes that I am relatively stingy with my stars, so it is rare that anyone receive five stars from me. As a last note, readers should acknowledge that pretty much every great business has a few negative reviews. It would actually be a little more suspicious if it were perfect. This is simple statistics. So if you have any doubts, I would recommend you read the details in the reviews for the reasons why. It is no shock to me that Doctor Deviney has taken the effort and the time to address the negative reviews, at least on Google. You can read his responses and draw your own conclusions. read more

I can see clearly now! This optometrist's office is spot on. They have fantastic service that was super friendly. I came in with some smashed up glasses. They had me wait outside until someone came to the door, and took a quick look at the glasses and determined that they could get them fixed right up, right away! I sat in their comfortable waiting room that they had rejiggered for social distancing, and checked out their snazzy selection of specs. They have a wide variety, from the famous designers, to the ones that you'd wear to a baseball game or hiking. The service was quick, and they got the mangled glasses bent back into their original shape in no time. I was so pleased when they said that they wouldn't charge for such work, and welcomed me to come back and get some new ones if the repairs didn't work out. I'm sure they will work out just fine, they look good as new. The store was well lit, and easy to park at. They have their own private lot. It seems you might need an appointment for a consultation with the doc, but they're ready to help if you just have something quick! I was super pleased with the great service I got here! read more

This place has always been stellar for eye exams and providing emergency contacts. Oh, but when I had an actual eye emergency (corneas got harmed by a peroxide solution and required an ER visit), I was referred to a place that made me wait for an answer, only to be cut off after 30 minutes -- twice. I asked when the regular doc would return and was told it would be the next day but that I would have to wait until almost 3 weeks later, regardless if it was an emergency. Now I've picked up my new glasses. During my exam about ten days ago, I had told Dr. Deviney how I always do better with the scripts determined by optometrists rather than ophthalmologists. No pressure there! The script is just fine and the glasses fit very well right out of the box. The optician checked my fit anyway and gave me some cleaner. She also demonstrated how quickly and how dark the Transitions lenses became after exposure. I went with the xTRA this time. They even change inside the car and are much darker outside. Inside they retain a barely perceptible tint. I'm very happy with these glasses and the service provided by this office. read more

I really really like Dr. Devinney. He is professional, knows his stuff, and explains everything to you during exams. I've been going to this office for several years and have always been completely satisfied. Sad to say, today was an exception. I found the staff to be maudlin, low energy, somewhat curt and dismissive. I felt as though I was inconveniencing staff by asking to be checked out. When I was handed my paperwork and asked if it included my prescription, the staff member indicated that it did. When I asked if my reading adjustment was on there, he replied quite snarkily, "this is your prescription." I left feeling as though something in that office had changed. The morale seemed low, and the staff seemed completely uninterested in customer service. Dr. Devinney remains a great optometrist, but the office has certainly taken a downward turn. read more

This vision office is the best I have ever been to over the past 30 years. When I called I was skeptical just based on other businesses. However, when i called for an appointment. They were very prompt and professional by setting my appointment quickly and repeated back everything to ensure I understood and had the appropriate information. I will not tell you how important that is especially for someone that is busy doing other things. So I give them a high mark for having patience and being thorough. Soon after I got off the phone i received a text with a reminder of my appointment. The day prior to the appointment I received another text requesting confirmation for my appointment and if I couldn't make to call the number below in the text. I mentioned this because many businesses provide text services but do not provide their number within the text so I have to look for the business card or google the business. Like I always say its the little things. On the day of my arrival, I approach the building which was clean and very organized. It made me feel like I was going to be taken care of immediately. I was meet by the front desk personnel which were remarkably professional courteous and attentive to my needs. The Tech brought me back within a few minutes of seating. In the pre-screening area I was astonished by cleanliness and flow of devices utilized to measure the health of your eye. If you come here please pay the extra $20 for the new technology for screening instead of the old school dilating the eyes. It less invasive and to me more detailed. Once I was done, I was brought into the doctor's office and it was clean and well organized. When the doc walked he was a very debonair, professional, attentive to my eye screening. The doctor explained each step by step process of the screening. When we reviewed the new technology utilized for eye health screening. He truly explained the purpose and provided a detailed analysis of my eye health. Needless to say my eyes are good to go but I still need glasses and contacts..lol Once, I was done was ushered out to select glasses which the office had very high end to affordable pair of spectacles. Of course, I choose the Oakley frames because I love the shape and the feel. When I got fitted they utilized a new technology to align the glasses to my face. I love when businesses utilized the newest tech. This surely puts this business way above any other I have gone to since being here in San Antonio. The great thing was while I was being care for, my son had his exam as well. We love this place I will definitely be back. Nice staff,great location & the exam by Dr.Deviney was hands down the most extensive checkup I have ever had.It was really neat see 3D imaging of my eye as well as to learn a few things about my eyes that I was unaware of concerning the shape they were in.I would recommend Vision Source Olmos Park to anyone due for a eye exam or new to San Antonio,go and check them out. Fantastic office all the way around. I originally came in to VS Olmos Park after my eyelash extensions attacked my eye balls and the Minute Clinic at CVS turned me away. I need an appointment quickly and I was pretty freaked out. New to San Antonio I did a quick google search and came to this location on a whim. Dr. Deviney was awesome and didn't shriek when I removed my sunglasses = bonus points. He prescribed antibiotics for me and sent me on my way. Now that my eyes are healed I made an appointment for an exam and it was one of the most thorough exams I've had in a long while. I've had perfect vision my entire life and now the signs of aging (and working on computer screens) have caught up with me. Dr. Deviney eased my apprehension and helped me to feel more comfortable with the idea of glasses. My insurance company didn't have my vision plan so I had to call back with an update. The staff updated my account and refunded the cost of the full price ($99) exam. All around it was a lovely experience. I'll be returning soon for my first pair of glasses. The whole process was SO easy! I got an app. within 48hrs. I was able to fill out my new patient docs online before my app. AND I even received a reminder text the day before about my app. They also have a great website that is easy to navigate and is appealing to the eye-- no pun intended. When I arrived I was seen right away. The staff was nice and helpful -- especially Letizia who was honest and helpful for selecting frames. They have a pretty good selection...loved the Tom Ford and Prada options. Could've used a bit more Tory Burch or Kate Spade options though ;) Dr. Deviney was informative, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable. He even showed me a picture of my retinas and explained it in detail, which was kind of cool and gave me a new appreciation for my vision. The only negative thing is that it cost $20 extra if you want to take the route of not getting your eyes dilated or the puff of air. Who wants that ever?! This is, by far, the best experience I have ever had at an optometrist. Dr. Deviney is extremely thoughtful and patient with his patients and shows genuine care in finding a treatment plan that works. I considered daily contacts in the past but thought it was to pricey and mostly just a way for my optometrist to earn a little extra money BUT I didn't feel pressured at all at Vision Source and they supplemented me with plenty of samples to make sure that I made the right decision for myself and my budget. Super staff, clean / bright / open office - I could go on and on, but the bottom line is this office and staff are top notch! I just had one of the worst customer experiences with this provider. Manager Ariel was reactionary and highly inappropriate in response to my inquiry and a simple request of a copy of my prescription from an exam the previous day. So much so that I will not be returning to this business, and I have sought remedy with my insurance provider. After reading other reviews, I know others have experienced problems with staff and service, specifically with this manager at Vision Source Olmos Park. Beyond the disturbing encounter, there is the appearance of an ethically questionable practice here that would preclude me as a customer in the future. My husband and I are visiting from Florida. He's usually pretty good about bringing an extra pair of contacts when we travel, but go figure this time, the one time he needed them, he didn't bring an extra pair. He had an issue with one of his contacts and called Vision Source to see if he could get a set of contacts if his optometrist in Florida faxed his script. Fortunately they had a pair with his prescription in stock. We arrived and they said they can't sell them and gave them to us for free. Awesome service, and open on a Saturday. It's weird to have a favorite optometrist, I'm sure, but Deviney is a damn treasure. He has a great sense of humor, he's disarming, explains things impeccably, and never makes me feel rushed; I ask a load of questions. The receptionist who I spoke with understood my dilemma and found a time that would work for both of us. She also checked on my insurance ahead of time, which I appreciated. The location was ideal, right around the corner from where I was living. The inside is very nicely decorated and the staff very friendly. Dr. Deviney was very thorough and easy to speak with. He listened to my eye history and explained how vision can change as we age. Vision Source Olmos Park is the best eyeglass / eye clinic I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. They will be my "go to" location for ALL vision matters for as long as I live in San Antonio! Why? I spent hours searching and reviewing all vision centers in San Antonio that not only have a nice selection of new glasses of this type but are qualified to work on authentic Austrian Silhouette frameless eye glasses. After calling a few, two said they have limited selection and send them out for repairs. The enthused person from Vision Source Olmos Park cheerfully informed me they can do it all with Silhouettes!! I rushed downtown to the beautiful Olmos Park area within hours of speaking with her. Just as she said, as soon as I walked into the shop I was met with a tall display case of 10's of Silhouettes to choose from, if / when I wanted new ones. However, the true test came when I presented the pleasant receptionist with a broken (frames broke, lens fine) pair of prescription Silhouette frameless sunglasses and another pair of the same but with an older expired prescription lens. I wanted to switch-out the older prescription lens with the newer prescription sunglass lens into the good (non-broke) Silhouette frames. Could they do it! The receptionist took both pairs and asked me to wait whilst she conferred with their technician(s) in the back. She quickly came back and said they could do it. I was elated and asked how many days before I return to pick them up? She said to wait they should be ready in less than an hour! WOW!! I was even more elated! About 30-40' passes as I checked-out all the cool newer Silhouette styles and lounged on their comfy big leather sofa playing with my phone in a comfortably cool office on a scorching hot day outside. Then the receptionist came back with EXACTLY what I was hoping for: my prescription sunglass lens were removed from the broken frame and used to replace the older expired prescription lens from perfectly fine Silhouette frames! Exactly what I was hoping for! AND TO TOP OFF THE ENTIRELY DELIGHTFUL EXPERIENCE, AFTER ADJUSTING MY "NEW" SILHOUETTE FRAMELESS PRESCRIPTION SUNGLASSES, I WALKED OVER TO THE COUNTER TO PAY, AND THEY TELL ME, "NO WORRY, NO CHARGE, IT WAS A SIMPLE REPLACEMENT! WOW, talk about the most satisfying experience!! After months of trying to find a place that has Silhouette expertise, I have the fantastic good fortune to discover my new "Vision Source" in Olmos Park.
