Dr Rosillo has sold/retired/left this practice and the replacement company isn't very competent for prior patients. My family will not be returning. We tried to order contacts, but they required a new exam because of the change. No problem, but they don't take our insurance anymore. When we went to pick up the new contacts, they would only give us two trial pairs. What did pay $300+ for?! It sure seems like they just want to scam as much money as they can... read more

Dr.Rosillo is no longer there and the place was bought out by a Laredo company. They would not give me my prescription till after I got the trial contacts. I have to go back for those in another week because they don't have them. Even after that, they won't give me my prescription till after the trial. I have been coming to Family Eye Care for years... at least 5 years (if not more), and I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite doctors' visits every time I've come. Dr. Rosillo and her staff are quick to respond to concerns, listen to your questions, and are very thorough in their explanations of your benefits, your health care, and your overall eye health. Dr. Rosillo is kind and remembers little facts about you so that when you see her next time, she asks about them. I think it's a personal touch that really continues to drive my business to her facility. I've been coming here for my regular eye examinations and have even had a few emergency visits in between that the staff was able to squeeze me in to see the doctor same day. I really enjoy the cleanliness of the facilities, the organization of the office, and the waste-not, want-not of their paperwork process as well. I've purchased lenses, glasses, and even got lenses put into an existing pair of my sunglasses before and have always been fitted correctly for my glasses. Even with my existing pair of sunglasses, Dr. Rosillo checked them to make sure they could support my lenses as well as last through the constant wear and tear. I have not been to the eye doctor in years and decided it was probably time for a routine checkup. There was a slight mix up with my appointment but they still made time to see me. The staff was all friendly and professional and the office was as clean. The only feedback I have is that I made it clear that I had not had an exam since I was a child and the staff asked a bunch of questions that I really didn't know the answer to. They could improve by explaining what the questions mean or why they are asking them. The Doctor did however take time to explain these things but I wish the staff would have as well without me having to ask. read more

I found this place because I had an emergency and I was new in SA. My eyes were hurting and my vision got blurry(I have always wore glasses). So I called many places to schedule something soon and they all told me I had to wait a couple of weeks. But In this place I got the appointment for the. Exit day. The staff is amazing! They are very friendly and helpful. Not only do they help me pick my glasses while being so patient but tell me if they go with my face haha. They always work with me and my schedule and insurance. Dr. Rosillo is also very friendly, always answers all my questions and gives me important information. I believe she speaks Spanish. I really appreciate them all. I'm relatively new to San Antonio, so this is only my SECOND visit to Family Eye Care. I can't therefore attest to years of service, but the service I've had has been pleasant. First off, I'm the dork who actually reads legal agreements that various businesses have you sign. So many businesses just give you the form to sign without the actual agreement that you're signing. Here you get handed both the form to sign as well as a binder containing the actual text of the various privacy agreements, etc. It goes to attention to detail, in my mind. The waiting area is clean, and almost always has some sort of kids programming going on a seemingly infinite loop. It's definitely a kid-friendly place if you need them to tag along. The exam starts with an electronic scan to get an estimate of where your eyes are at, and then a puff-style pressure check on your eyes. From there, you're escorted pretty quickly back to an exam room where a technician checks your current prescription and does some basic testing with a computer-based eye chart. Dr. Rosillo then comes in to perform the exam. I had a complaint that my previous set of eyeglasses -- from YEARS and YEARS ago -- seemed to be working better than the prescription they had provided a couple of years ago. Both her and the previous technician acknowledged my concern, and Dr. Rosillo even took the time to show me the similarity of the current prescription (from this visit) compared to the other two . . . my eyes had changed such that the latest prescription was more similar (but not identical to) my really, really old one. As mentioned, it had been a couple of years since my last exam, so we decided to dilate my eyes. A technician dispensed the needed drops, and I hung out in the waiting room with my family for 20 minutes while waiting for the drops to take effect. If you haven't done that in a while, just a reminder that your near-vision can get pretty blurry . . . so you may want to take some music or an audio book if you're not into the children's programming on the TV. Either than, or hold your smartphone at arm's length and hope that you're texting your family and not your boss. ;-) Also, as a note, a lot of insurance providers will NOT cover the cost of dilation, which I find odd because it's an annoying but important part of getting a good exam. I then went back into the exam room so that Dr. Rosillo could take a better look at the inside of my eyes. She's friendly, and we chatted about dogs while she completed this last part of the exam. I had an appointment, so I did not have time to visit their vision center. All in all, a good experience. I wish that the office was closer to my house, but I find the service worth the drive. read more

I don't usually believe 5 star reviews, but I had an emergency and I hated the last optometrist I went to in SA. So, in a hurry, I gave in and came here expecting the reviews to be exaggerated. Let me say, they were not 1 bit! I was so happy with the service I received here. I was a walk-in and they were so helpful, gave me an appointment for the morning. Took care of my emergency and the doctor answered all the questions I had and even gave me great advice for eye care that I had never heard before. She took care of my billing and my follow up which impressed me because other doctors will see you in the room but then have no other interaction with you. I liked that she was someone that seemed to be able to do everything in the office and that she offered her email address for me to contact her with any questions. I am almost tempted not to say such good things so they don't get booked with appointments, but I can't help it..I've never had such great service at a medical establishment in SA. read more

I just picked up my new glasses on Friday and I absolutely love them. One of the receptionist was wearing the same style and I fell in love with them. For years I've had problems finding contacts that don't bother my eyes. I had been to two other optometrists, both were impatient and kept telling me to "just squirt more solution" when they got dry or itchy. Not this eye doctor! She really is the best eye doctor ever. The first time I am satisfied with my glasses. I checked on yelp this Feb and found Dr. Rosillo' clinic. The staff were nice and professional and they dealt with the insurance company for me, saving me a huge amount of time. Dr. Rosillo has a agreeable personality and she is patient to the clients. She spent her time to explain to me how ameoba can hurt my eyes because I wanted to have contacts when swimming. The thing that impressed me the most were the glasses they made for me. They are just comfortable!! I have been wearing glasses ever since i was 9 so I am surely know what is good what is bad when putting the glasses on. Mine are so comfortable and I haven't seen any distortion of the things I am watching. I still remember the moment when I have this new set of glasses on! Clear and comfortable. After 4 months of wearing, I am still happy with my new glasses. I have tried walmart, target and vision work but none of them did it right! I feel pain and pulling on my eyes muscles when putting on the glasses made by those places. If you need to see OD, Dr. Rosillo is the only choice in town! read more

I went in to Family Eye Care at the end of December, to have my eyes checked. I was not having a problem with my current glasses but when Dr. Rosillo got through with me I needed a whole new prescription. My insurance only pays for new frames every other year so I had to purchase my own frames because I could not leave my current glasses for the week to 10 days. My new glasses took over a month to arrive. I began wearing them and had nothing but headaches and eye aches every day. Then while driving, I did not see a median in the road and had an accident. I could not understand why I did not see the median and return to the scene several times to replay it. I saw just fine with my old glasses but with the new ones I could not see the median on my left. I called the office four times and no one returned my calls. On the fifth attempt, I received a return call and was told I could not return the glasses. I then went to an ophthalmologist outside of network and he said the glasses were defective in the left lens and were not even my prescription. I got a second opinion on both my old & new glasses only to be told my old glasses were fine but the new ones were defective. I contacted my insurance company and they said that family eyecare refuses to return the frames or the lenses. read more

I have been a patient here for a few years. The doctor is amazing. However today I had the worst customer service experience and will no long be a patient after this experience. I arrived, was asked to sign some documents and then quickly escorted to the back for my exam. The staff did not provide any information on a change in their office's participation in my particular vision insurance. After my eye exam I was informed my charges where an extra $80. One particular staff member was rude, condescending and just repeated the same things over and over again stating that I should have asked more questions. Nothing was resolved and I feel deceived. If you decide to go here, don't depend on the staff to provide accurate helpful information. read more

Dr. Nydia Rosillo is an amazing doctor. She is consultative and always takes the time to explain why certain tests and procedures may be necessary. You can tell that she really cares about her patients, which is rare nowadays in the medical industry. E.g. she mentions things that most eye doctors won't, like the importance of wearing sunglasses to protect against UV damage from the sun and other preventative eye care measures that do not make her any extra money but are very important for eye health. Dr. Rosillo is Great!! So helpful and was able to diagnose what had been bothering my eye in one visit after other dr's blamed allergies w/ no real diagnosis. She prescribed meds and after a follow up, I was able to wear my contacts again with no issues. She is very friendly and will answer questions plus give explanations on what caused or could have caused the issue. I only saw Dr. Rosillo for just a brief time that I was there. I was handed off to two other people during my visit. They did a bunch of test on my eyes not really sure on the outcome other than you may have glaucoma but you need to see a glaucoma specialist because they weren't sure. I was handed a prescription at check out and again no one really explained what my prescription meant. I assume they sold eye wear because they had a few displayed on the wall but I was never shown any glasses or asked to purchases any. I took my prescription to lens Crafters where they explained my prescription to me and told me I was prescribed Progressives lenses. I have been wearing my glass for about 5 days now and everything seems blurry except when I read something close up. I actually see better without the glasses. I'm pretty sure I have the wrong prescription which doesn't surprise me because they seem to be in a hurry to close for lunch. So I guess I have to start at all over again at another office. Well at least I have a $500 pair of reading glasses! read more

I went for a regular check up as my vision in r eye had decreased. She told me at end of visit that I had Fuch's Dystrophy. The back of my cornea looked like an orange peel. She said not to worry, she could treat me, I could go to a specialist but basically it was a "waste of money". Come back in 2 weeks. Here's your glasses rx so you can get glasses. I freaked out! Went online and joined the Corneal Dystrophy Foundation and joined their forum. First thing I learned. Find an excellent Fuch's specialist as you will need transplants. No optometrist can handle this nor would you want them to. I went to one of the best in the country, who happened to be in Houston. A top Fuch's specialist. I did NOT have Fuch's Dystrophy. But, I did have something. So that's why they get the 1 star for at least bringing a problem to my attention. Another complaint is that they said they would try to file with Medicare to see if covered as I had eye disease. Never heard anything. So I called them about 3 weeks ago. She said Medicare loses claims so she would send it again. Today I rec'd my Medicare Summary Notice. The visit is not even listed on there. They lied to me. Per Medicare all claims turned in will show up but will show denied. So I called them today. The girl said Medicare told the dr. that it wasn't covered because it was a routine exam. That is a lie. Now the dr may know that it's not covered and told the girl that, but Medicare did NOT call this optometrist and tell her it wasn't covered. That is not their procedure. It's so ridiculous it's funny. Do they think I'm stupid? They may be, but I'm not. I found out exactly what Medicare does. They are right, it isn't covered. So why didn't they just say that the day of the appt or the day 3 weeks ago when I called. Or even today? They never even filed it to begin with. DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE. The optometrist is arrogant thinking she could handle a corneal disease. She is JUST an optometrist. She should have gone to school longer if she wanted to become a corneal specialist. Thank God I did my research and didn't listen to her. Oh, and I can't wear glasses any longer so if I had filled that rx and paid $300-400 for glasses I wouldn't have been able to see out of them because my cornea is bulging out and I have severe astigmatism. Glasses will NOT correct my vision any longer. Thank God for Dr. Goosey in Houston, Tx. He is amazing. She may be fine with a terrible office staff for regular eye exams but if there's anything more wrong; run...as fast as you can! read more

Well worth the drive, I took my wife to have her eyes checked for pink eye and decided to get my eyes examined while I was there. The office is very clean, neat and looks extremely professional. They have a very nice selection of designer glasses, my daughter liked some girly ping glasses for herself but she did not need any :-) Dr. Rosillo is very knowledgeable and we would definately recommend her to anyone looking for a new place for their eye care needs. read more
