As an Asian, I've had countless perms since the age of three. As such, I know what I want and what I need. I made my appointment, showed up on time and was seen pretty promptly. I explained the size of roll that I wanted and she got started pretty quickly. Since she wasn't much of a talker, I ended up nodding off and before I knew it, I was under the heat. It didn't occur to me until then to check to see if she used smaller rollers for the back of my head since my hair is shorter there. Since she was supposed to be a professional, I assumed that she had and read under the heat lamp. It went downhill from there. She'd been overbooked and as soon as she got rid of me under the heat lamp, she got her next client in the seat and had some Joe Schmo rinse my hair out. He was trying to make small talk, but while having the distinct feeling of being ogled, I was in no mood. I grabbed a towel to dry off and asked to buy some product. The girl managed to come back for that and to dab on some product--and then to add a nice little fee for her "efforts". It has been about a month and the back of my head is pretty much stick straight while the front is perfectly curly. This makes for the fun morning ritual of either having to pin my hair up everyday or straighten it. I sure do love wasting $100. Next time, I'll just plan to go somewhere else even if their hours aren't as convenient as this place. read more

I absolutely do not know why I do this to myself. I have tried to make visible changes my hair salon for about.....11 years now. I have gone to them probably 8 times and EACH AND EVERY TIME I GO.....they completely ruin my hair and I have to wait for a very long time for my hair to even grow back so some other salon can fix it. Many people that I know had great experience with visible changes, but definitely not me. I mean the price is definitely appealing compared to the places that I like. So price is good, but the quality is eh. I guess I get what I paid for. Well....here is my recent experience. I just wanted a TINY trim on my layers so I can have more volume in my hair. I also wanted my bangs trimmed. FIRST of all...the guy I got was really zoned out. He did not talk to me much and was like chop chop chop and we were done in 5 minutes. He gave me the mirror for me to look at and I was like uh.....don't you want to blend in my layers? And he said...OH good idea! After he did that.....he was like wow that looks so much better. SERIOUSLY?!?! He was going to let me walk out like that and ALSO I had to tell him what to do? Don't stylist usually want to make you look good? Apparently not. WELL.....I came out with half of my head uneven and my bangs were too razored that it constantly fell into my face. I didn't say anything then because I felt really uncomfortable and wanted to be out as soon as I can. BUT.... The unevenness was extremely noticable because I have asian hair and it is stick straight and you can tell what happened. There is no way of hiding it. I was trying to convince myself that it was going to be fine. Well...I'm not the type of person that will go and complain about things but this was something that made me extremely mad. The next day, I gave the store a call and told them that they need to give quality haircuts because they are located in the galleria. The galleria usually has the best things. Well....they told me that they would do a recut. I came back in the store to see what they can do. I knew that they couldnt glue hair back and I would just have to wait until it grew back. Well....Veronica took a look at my hair and I knew she was like WTF. She knew what was wrong before I even told her what happened. She was very sweet and was able to fix it. I really like my hair now compared to what it was. I would recommend her. She was personable....unlike the guy I got. Overall....my hair is okay for now. Third time here. I bring my mom here to get her hair cut. Now my mom is Very, Very picky. She's is so picky, she rather go a year without getting her hair cut, than having a bad hair cut. One day, she was told about a stylist in VC by the name of Jesus, and she asked me to take her to get her hair cut. I was pretty scared at first, because we have been done this path before and it doesn't end well. But she needed a hair cut. So I made an appointment and specifically asked for Jesus. We get there, and they whisk her off to wash her hair and then to cut and style and I'm sitting on the couch waiting. And waiting. About an hour goes by ( and I wish I had a drink), when Jesus and my mom walk towards me and she is so happy. I almost fell off the couch. I almost didn't recognize her. This is the only time that she has been 100% satisfied with a haircut. He did such a awesome job. Like I said before, this is her third time back. BUT I also need to shoutout Blair, who was an absolute lifesaver. I was a customer of visible changes for a long time, but my last experience was less than sub par. I worked in the mall and would go to visible changes because I could get a great hair cut and do it right before or after work, so it was really convenient. On my last trip, I came in, checked in, and was told to sit down. Thirty minutes later after watching others taken in front of me, I got up and asked when I was going to be taken. Apparently I had never actually been checked in and the very girl who checked me in said she didn't remember me. I had originally set my appointment for an hour before I had to go into work, now I had 30 minutes. I told them I only had 30 minutes and asked if I could be seen right away and I was shortly after. No one apologized for their mistake and I was still expected to pay. I would have asked for a manager and stayed to discuss it, but at that point I was late to my job and if you've ever worked retail, if you show up late a few times, you're fired. So I chose paying the 40 dollars I shouldn't have paid to keep my job. I sent a message to their corporate office later detailing the situation. No one ever contacted me back about it, but they did put me on their newsletter. In short, Visible Changes can be a great place to get your hair cut, but when they make a mistake or screw something up with you, they will screw it up big time. No one will be sorry about it either. So do yourself a favor and go someplace else. read more

"Would you like the $4 conditioner or the $6 conditioner?" WHY do they charge you for CONDITIONER? Why not just add that into the price of the 'do? I think that is unbelievably annoying. I went to Visible Changes for the first time since 12th grade recently because my bf finally found a haircutter he likes here. I have long hair and just needed a trim, so I went with the basic haircutter. She was fine, nice, and took her time. She didn't go in and relayer when my hair was dry, but I guess that's not her style. I wasn't too happy my hair was curled on the ends so I couldn't really see how it falls. All in all it was a decent experience. Was it worth $42 ($30 cut, $6 conditioner, $7 tip)? Meh. read more

I was underwhelmed. I wanted to change my hair color. I admit it, I monkeyed with it over the weekend and should not have. That is not the stylist's fault that I saw. The problem for me is their business model. It was an extremely depersonalized experience. I have gone to independent stylists for years. The amazing lady who cuts my hair does not do color. I know someone who does but knew I could not get in quickly. Lesson learned. WAIT. I ended up with exactly the color I had before I did my personal experiment. I could have done that myself. I thought about it. I just wanted something different. To top it off the colorist, who was at the top tier so I know the individual knows her stuff and that is why I wanted the top tier, was not the person that styled my hair. Nope. Someone else blow dried my hair. So the colorist did not even see how the color turned out or if I was even half way pleased or anything near that. I paid a pretty penny to be back at square one. Big whoop. Not really what I was hoping for. I am used to personalized service. I am used to full interaction every step of the way. I felt like I went through a cattle shoot. Never again. I will only go to independent salons. I am happy to pay for the service. I am glad to pay. I expect to pay. I also expect to be fully served and not left for someone else to finish me up. I am disgusted with the lack of customer service. Plus then I was asked how I wanted to divide the tip and if I wanted to give it to them myself. Um no. I will never step foot inside this place again. I would rather light my head on fire. This reminds me of the nail salon asking for cash tips. Screw you! Afterwards, I went and bought a high-end handbag. I do not mind paying for service and for quality. I received none of that at this joint. I came in for the first time as my friend recommended Hannah for a haircut. Since Hannah was booked, I accepted an appointment with another stylist of the same level, Antonia. Antonia washed my hair and noticed a very thick knot I'd had for weeks. I had resigned myself that the knot would probably be cut because it was super tight. I hadn't been able to comb through it. I told Antonia I had no choice and she added that I have curly hair and clipping the knot would probably not be noticeable. She did persist in combing it once we got to the styling chair. Hair salons are such a subjective thing to rate, because getting even a slightly bad haircut could easily throw off the scale of a particular review. I'm gonna do my best to rate the place, based on my experience as a whole. First off all, I don't think I'd ever get my hair cut at the mall. But it's gotten just insane looking, so much, in fact, that my wife just made me the appointment and told me to go get my hair cut that night. And I was all, "What? It's in the mall?" But like I said, I was looking like a lunatic, so I just went with it. Nervously, I walked into Visible Changes. Electronic dance music was blaring, and people in black smocks and outfits were bustling all over the place. The front desk is massive, and kinda reminded me of an airport ticket counter. There are probably like 100 hair styling stations in this place. I said to myself, "This isn't a salon. It's a haircut factory!" The people at the desk were super-nice, and the guy who swashed my hair was pretty cool guy. At one point, when I told him it was my first time at Visible Changes he remarked, "Well then you're in for a real treat." That struck me as a kinda odd thing to say. I guess I consider a "treat" getting an unexpected massage or a margarita. However, I gotta say it was a really pleasant visit. The "Master Stylist" who cut my hair was so much fun. I'll admit I was sortaa nervous at first because of her Vietnamese/English accent, and I was only worried because I was afraid my styling instructions might get muddled-up. But she was just delightful, and kept saying to me in her cute, semi-broken English, "Oh you going to look so handsome!" She was really sweet, and did a remarkable job, considering I probably looked like a total weirdo when we got started. Now I look just shy of a million bucks (I blame the economy). I guess I've been putting off getting my hair cut since we moved to Houston because I wanted to find the right place, and not wind up getting a horrible haircut before meeting people and clients. My experience at Visible Changes was great, and I'll probably head there again for another haircut - either until I find a salon I like, or this place becomes my regular spot. Wow! Cant believe I am first! I visit this salon on a weekly basis and am definitely a fan. The trick is picking the right stylist to fit both your budget and style. I'm not a huge fan of chain-salons, but I do see some benefit. These stylists have received some of the best training out there. Ive found the stylists to be very efficient and great at their jobs. The service is great...and they know me my name...(well I am there a lot) but still! Its one of the few salons I've been to that I can get in and out within an hour and a half, and with a busy schedule, that's one of the most important things. read more

She's the best she combed through my hair and told what I knew all along (Bad Cut) in less than 40 minutes Mary has me smiling - I felt so good leaving the Salon because I didn't have to clip up my hair!! If you don't expect much, then maybe this is the place for you. You legitimately feel like you're at a factory for cutting hair and you're scurried down the line from start to finish. Not only do appointments never start on time, but they book appointments so tightly together that the stylists rush through and make mistakes as a result. I won't call out my stylist because I actually liked her, but the final straw was when she rushed through the last two haircuts I had in order to accommodate other clients that had arrived literally as I was sitting down in the chair. On the final visit, there ended up being one very noticeable section of hair that was completely missed in my cut. She curled my hair and I didn't notice until the next day that one section was 1-2 inches longer than the rest of my hair. How embarrassing. Don't make the same mistake. I scheduled a color appointment with a chemical specialist and was scheduled with a director. Nelda was great. She took the time to help me select a color and was very pleasant. I must say that's it is frustrating to not know the exact cost from the beginning. I feel that they should provide a copy of the ticket they fill out so customers can see the break down. Nelda had two little bowls of mix and said there was $10 cost per amount of mix (I can't recall the amount of oz) how is a customer suppose to confirm charges are correct? I am use to my old hair stylist ( back home) who has set prices. I said I would give this place another chance, but I'm probably going to stick with my former stylist to avoid this. In regards to the issue I had the first time, they did call me and asked me about what happened and said they would call corporate to figure out the over charges and watch surveillance video. In addition it raises suspicion because they said the girl who checked me out no longer works there. I guess I was expecting them to return my call and offer a resolution, which has yet to happen. Overall that's probably the main reason why I won't return. I just get a feeling that there is some overcharging (shadiness) going on. read more

I made my appointment with Brandi with a lot of ease. There was hardly any wait time for her to get to me. She was nice and personable and really understood my hair. She knew the exact cut I wanted and how to style it with me hair. She even told me stuff about my hair that I wasn't aware (for example that I have a cowlick and shouldn't have bangs shorter than my cheek bone). It was a quick job, but precise. I suggest getting the wash and style. First of all, it's relaxing and second of all it ends up looking better in the end. So the scoop is...it is horrible to park here, I hate the garage, I hate all the zombies walking around the mall, people that hang out at the ice rink are stupid, the Rainforest Cafe is ANNOYING, all of those mini sales carts sell the dumbest stuff..seriously- what am I going to do with an electric flying helicopter or a LED belt buckle that reads out whatever I program it to say, trust me- anything I want to say is probably not what you want to read...on a buckle. I've been going to Visible Changes for about 5 years. Have gone through 5 master stylists (some of them left, or some of them graduated to higher rates). They always get it right and can gauge what I'm asking for. I only once had a bad experience with a new stylist that wanted me to direct her instead of letting her use her creativity. It came out bad. In the 5 years though never had an issue until the last two consecutive visits - with the manager. Both times we brought up our concern, instead of apologizing and finding a solution, he did so in a way that implied that the mistake was ours (appointment times messed up, even after calling in ourselves to confirm earlier that day). The second instance was a cashier that took a costumer that did not wait in line to pay. Manager again did not take responsibility and defended the cashier. I have since moved city and no longer visit VC. read more

Booked an appointment for 11:00AM today and drove out 18 miles to the Galleria. I was really excited to get a new look. I had been talking about it with my friends for weeks. I walk in at 11:20AM and got a consultation. However, without calling me or reminding me, they assumed I was a no show and cancelled my appointment before the consultation. No one told me about this policy. They offered to fit me in 4.5 hours later and they quoted me a price that was over twice the quote on the phone. Rude customer service at the desk as well. So I found this place in a corner of the huge Galleria and at first I was skeptical until I met Julie. She not only has the looks but also the attitude. If this were the feudal Japan I can see her like a Kunoichi using a katana and precisely delivering the killing blow to the Daymio's enemy on one move. That good is she with her hands and sharp objects. I am pretty sure her scissors were crafted by elves and that in some degree she is related with Edwards Scissor hands. So...I've been coming to Visible Changes for the better part of 3-4 years. That said...my appeal to them was that I have 5 kids and my schedule (as you can imagine) is hard to dictate changes etc. So...made sense to have a place down the street (lucky for me) that could see me at either weird times or in a whim. Let's explain: 1. book appt. (no problem). 2. (Call to inform bring 6 mins late...chick not listening...I have to repeat...ok no problem). 3. Show...all as scheduled...just seemed like ok. No warm welcome...intro..just blah. (Get to his station...WAY BETTER). 4. Explanation of hair was good. Well fast and rushed a bit but good. 5. "When you try to hold a convo with your hairdresser and........CRICKETS!" I probably tried to engage a conversation at least 3-4 times...oh well. So...could go on and on...but...just very disappointed. I guess I've spent a lot of $$ here and would hope that maybe others that have seen me before could make notes and maybe better notes and/or if they do...communicate together. I had a hair cut today. Pretty rough experience. I asked three times for her to cut a certain spot short, and even at the end she argued with me after I asked her to trim it short the final time. She never showed me the back of my hair either, didn't do the spin in the chair with a hand mirror thing. Had she did, I would have asked for something else. Finally, I paid $23 more than normal for one of the worst haircuts I've had in years. The stylists I've seen before were busy so they booked me with a higher level WITHOUT informing me she was higher level. Been with the same stylist for 5-6 years at this location, Juany. She is very friendly and nice and always seems to do a pretty good job. The problem is that she is only capable of giving me the same haircut for the last 5-6 years. Don't get me wrong, it's a good look for me, but after all that time, I wanted something different so I ventured out. I sent my mom to Juany about 2 years ago, and she gave her the same exact haircut. Maybe mom and I have the same facial structure that fits the haircut, but 1) walking around in the same haircut as your mom is only appropriate when you are less than 5 years old, and 2) I doubted her creativity if that seems to be the only haircut she is able to give to anyone. read more

When I graduated from college, I moved back to Houston and needed a new stylist as I was living in uptown and grew up in the NW suburbs. I had been going to places recommended by friends, but never could find the right person because they didn't listen or do what I wanted. I like my hair cuts simple- lots of even layers and thinning out my thick hair. I also like my hair styled very straight. I have been going to Daniel at Visible Changes for about two years now, and he is WONERFUL! He does what you want him to and you will always get it looking like you want! When I bring a picture, he sometimes will give you suggestions on how to make it look better on you (however if you tell him you want it exactly like the photo he will do it) He also did my hair for my bridal portraits and on my wedding day and it looked beautiful! He is very talented and is fun to talk to, but does not talk the whole time (which is nice for me to relax and it shows he is focused on his work). I really do quite like this place. I called on a Sunday morning and was able to get a appointment on the same day with Pam, who I have gone to before. She does a great job and knew exactly the kind of look I was going for. She was very attentive and paid attention to small details. I will keep going back to her. Hair looks great! I paid $52 plus tip, which I think is completely reasonable for my length and cut. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they tried to charge me $5 for conditioner that I didn't even want. I was not asked if I wanted this "special" conditioner, nor was I even aware I was getting it until I went to pay. After arguing with the receptionist, they took it off. I Head a situation today where I had landed in Houston and have not had a chance to cut and style my hair and had to be important meetings over the next few days. Because my flight landed at 6 PM, my choices were limited but I had been to visible changes in San Antonio and found out that there was one in Houston. I was fortunate enough to get an appointment at 8 PM as someone had canceled and was even more fortunate to have Adriana (sp.)as my stylist. I am a guy for whom my appearance is important. She did a fantastic layered cut that made my hair look extra sharp and listened attentively to my suggestions and concerns. Was deciding on where to get my haircut. A friend of mine goes here so I decided to get my first haircut in Houston at Visible Changes. I called on a Thursday afternoon to schedule an appointment later that evening. I had no problem making an appointment. I ended up with Amir as my stylist. Shampooing was very nice and the cut was great. For the price (28 USD) it was perfect. It took only a half an hour and I was happy.
