Brought my sister here to have her head shaved due to chemo treatments. They were SO sympathetic and understanding. So, if you have a stylist who gave you a really bad hair cut - you don't have a choice but go back to that same person to fix it - who, perhaps, will mess it up some more. read more

One fateful day several years ago, I called Lot 8 in tears after a terrible cut at another salon....Kitty got me scheduled that day, calmed me down, and then rescued my hair, and I've never looked back! I trust her completely, she knows my style and always helps guide me in my hair journey. I've never been unhappy with my results, and if I do have some small requests she gets me in for a touch-up the day I call. I send all my friends to Lot 8! Bonus tip: the Keratin treatment is expensive but so worth it, I do it once a year and it allows me to wear my thick, course hair down at work after washing it at night, throwing some oil in it, and letting it dry overnight. Absolutely wonderful hair salon. I needed a haircut quickly and easily booked an appointment for the next morning. I explained my hair qualities and one of the owners recommended me Souki. Souki did an absolutely fantastic job. My hair can be difficult to work with, kind of your typical Asian hair when if it's too short, it looks like a chia pet. Souki took her time and made sure everything was to my liking, and spent almost an hour and fifteen minutes! To date, I've only ever had two people now who have cut my hair to my liking. The only thing I will say is that the price is quite steep... especially for a men's haircut. $44 dollars isn't something that I can afford all the time. If the price was kept down, then I can definitely seen myself coming here more often. The quality is really excellent. I guess it is cheaper than me flying to Seattle every time I need to get it cut though. read more

I went to this salon almost a month ago and at first I wanted to write a review right when I came home but decided I needed to cool off and make sure I still felt the same about my evaluation. It's a month later...and I am still pretty angry/irritated about my experience at this salon. I made an appointment for color and a trim for 1:00 on a Friday. Big mistake - apparently everyone is in rice village trying to eat lunch at 1:00 on Friday. I arrived in the area around 12:50 and circled looking for parking for about 10 minutes. I called the salon to tell them my situation and also to ask them if they had any additional reserved parking for the salon (besides the mere 2 spots in front) and they said only in the back on saturdays, that they would tell my stylist I was running late and hung up. They didn't offer any advice/help on where to park in the area. Not cool. I ended up circling for 15 more minutes and wanted to almost turn around and just cancel my appointment - 25 minutes of looking for parking is crap. Gigi was scheduled to color my hair and she did a standard job. What I wasn't happy with was that I was never once offered a beverage, and instead sat under the heat lamp with my color in my hair to expedite the process (since I was already late), sweating my ass off. When they put me in the chair to wash my color out, some kid sat next to me and immediately he was offered some coke. Also, since we were running late, Gigi didn't have time to completely wash off my color so some guy took over, cranked the water up to scalding hot, splashed some on my face and not once said sorry/asked if the temp was okay. Afterwards, another lady cut my hair (I forgot her name..) but it was just a simple trim and bang trim, which again - I think is hard to mess up. The total for my color, trim and bang trim was $200. With all these factors put together, I don't think I'll be coming back here or recommending this place to any of my friends. read more

I've gotten my hair done here twice. Once was a color and a trim, and the second was just a color. The second time I had Gigi do my color and it didn't come out at all the way I had asked. I had to come back the next day which she was totally willing to do, but I had just wished that she had gotten it right the first time. The cut was fine, but it took Christine FOREVA to do it, and it was just a trim! I think I was sitting in the chair for at least an hour just for the trim. Some of the girls are really nice, but some of them, especially behind the counter and one in particular who is snooty over the phone, can be not so welcoming. I made an appointment over the phone a few days ago but the girl who made it was so rude--I couldn't hear what she said a couple of times and then she smirked/laughed at me (?!?!), so I canceled the appointment and made an appointment at a totally different salon that I'm going to try out. The person who answered the phone at the latter salon was extremely nice. If you want to be paid good money, then I expect good service. read more

If I move outside of Houston I'm going to take Christine with me. I've been going to her since 2006 when she had set up shop in the back of her sister's Lot 8 boutique. Her business has grown since and I refuse to go anywhere else! I've cheated on her a few times with other salons (regrettably), only to come back to her, one time in tears to get it "fixed". I tell people she's very conservative with her cuts - she won't shred it to pieces with a razor because "textured" hair is the hottest trend. She'll give you her honest opinion - which I appreciate because she's the pro. She knows hair, trends and what's good for your face shape and personal style. I've never had a bad cut. And as she knows, I like drastic looks. Whether if I'm cutting off 5 inches or just a trim, she does it with extra attention and care. So I don't understand why people complain about stylists taking too long. Hair is an art, and cutting is her trade. It's something you'll have to wear 24/7 -- so I feel fortunate at Lot 8 Salon that I get individualized attention each time I go there, rather than feel like another head on a factory line conveyor belt (*cough* Visible Changes). read more

Christine works hair miracles. I was always doubtful of expensive hair salons but I can solidly say that this one makes it worth it-- which means a lot coming from a cheapo like me. I have never gotten compliments on my haircut from people before but now it seems like I get them all the time. Bottom line: if you only get a hair cut every once in a while, walk away from the 5$ hair salon, go to lot 8, find Christine, and splurge for this. It will be worth it!! read more

New to Houston and in desperate need of a highlight and trim, I booked an appt at Lot 8 salon. Having frequented Rice Village on almost a daily basis, I knew what to expect in terms of parking but for anyone that's not familiar with the area, parking is a disaster. I ended up parking in the garage, getting my hair done and then getting a $5 gelato at Black Walnut just so that I could get a parking validation. As for the salon, I was not that impressed. My colorist, Gigi, did not even try to make conversation with me. She didn't offer to do anything new or different with my hair. The color came out nice but I definitely expected more for the price. I find it so uncomfortable sitting in a chair for over an hour while the person doing your hair refuses to even attempt to make small talk. The worst part of the entire experience came when I got my hair washed. After getting it washed, the woman cutting my hair was still busy with another client. I ended up sitting in the chair long enough that my hair air-dryed on its own! I must have been sitting there for a solid 45 minutes. No one offered to get me any water or a magazine or even come over to assure me that I'd be seen soon. I felt like they had completely forgotten about me. Extremely uncomfortable. My cut came out nice, but again probably not worth the price. If I'm going to spend $200+ and my entire afternoon at a salon, I expect to be blown away by my color/cut and unfortunately, that just wasn't the case. read more

Ask for Sookie! She's the best. Ever since I've moved back to Houston Sookie has been cutting my hair. Compliment: She knows how to cut your hair in a way that even if you can't come back to visit for another several months, it'll still grow back looking stylish, healthy, and well kept. She's also a professional when it comes to styling hair for weddings. I had her do my wedding updo, and it was so seamless for her to do; she was very comfortable. I got an updo for a formal event done in Dallas and the stylist in that salon was so nervous and lacked any confidence with her work. At that moment I couldn't help comparing her to Sookie and appreciated Sookie's talent even more. Once you go to Sookie you can't go elsewhere. read more

I'm looking for someone local to cut my hair. I would love, love, love to be able to fly to my old stylist to get my hair done, but my husband thinks I'm ridiculous. I booked an appointment the same day with Souki. I was very thankful that she had several times available. I met her and she was sweet as could be. I told her that my hair is in this funky in-between stage where I have a weak desire to grow it out, but ultimately know that bobs look super cute on me. She asked me what my hair routine was and then advised that I should go with a bob because I'm with child and when that baby comes I'm gonna be TIRED! She is right. I know she's right. She gave me a great neck massage when she washed my hair. It was long or anything but I could have fallen asleep. The haircut she gave me is cute. Initially, I didn't get that wow factor (but I loved my previous hair stylist, others have a lot to live up to). I like it. It's a good cut. I wish she was a little cheaper just because I feel like I didn't get that wow factor. I don't feel like super sexy, but just cute. The haircut grew out beautifully, and it was a good solid cut. Overall, I think I'd go see her again. read more

Just had my first appointment here, and I'm definitely going back! I asked Lisa for layers with bangs, and we talked about what style would be manageable for me on a daily basis. I love the way my hair has turned out! Totally new look with a new length :) The price isn't too bad for a nice salon. The wash, cut and style was $60. One drawback is the parking situation. This salon is in Rice Village, which is a parking nightmare. Fortunately, there are a few spots right out front reserved for customers. read more

I've never been able to find a good hair stylist or salon that I was in love with until a friend introduced me to Lot 8 Salon. Now there is no other place I would ever go to. I get my hair cuts with Souki. She's the best! I love her and she knows exactly how to cater to my hair. I've also had my hair colored there too, or actually I had a gloss done but it was also just as great. I totally recommend Lot 8 Salon to everyone I meet. This is just a warning to any guys out there who consider stopping by this salon for a quick hair cut. I didn't have access to a car at the time, so I needed to find a place to get a haircut within walking distance of where I was staying. This place was pretty close and looked nice so I dropped by. I asked for a simple hair cut and, well, what I got was basically a long, drawn-out hair cut with shampooing both before and after. I did not ask for shampooing nor did I expect it, but since I was clear I just wanted a hair cut and she offered (more like told me to do it), I went along. The process took about an hour (the person who cut my hair definitely took her time...) and cost me a whopping $35, as opposed to the $12-15 I usually expect. The hair-cut was good but nothing exceptional. This is less a negative review so much as it is a warning. I don't know if they were trying to take advantage of my ignorance to get me to cough up over twice what I'd normally pay for a hair cut or if they misunderstood what I wanted, but either way I could easily see other guys having this issue. If they try to shampoo your hair (and if they do it like they did for me, they won't "offer" so much as say "now let's go shampoo your hair"), be aware that it will cost you as much as the hair cut itself. read more
