Bad experience at this salon. On the positive side, Lo (Lorian) is very nice. I'm profoundly disappointed because my haircut is awful. $90 for haircut only; without drying/styling. Layers are very choppy and random, making it difficult/impossible to use a curling iron, flat iron, hot rollers, etc. Most expensive haircut I've ever had; some of the worst layers of my life. Now I have to wait at least a year for my "layers" to grow out, then try again at a different salon. read more

I've gone to the other 1905 westheimer location 3 times now and have tried 2 different stylists and I won't go back . You went in just wanting basic, accurate info before committing, and instead you got confusion, backtracking, and zero help. That's annoying, especially when it's a place that looks professional and should absolutely know their stuff. Today's experience (Dec 31 at around 4:35 p.m.) was especially frustrating. The front desk should at least know the basics of the services they're representing. I've been getting hair treatments for years, which is why I immediately knew the information I was being given was completely incorrect. When I corrected her, she changed her response and said, "Oh, maybe that's what happened," or something to that effect and then asked me to explain my experience--essentially having me educate her. I was calling because I wanted to make an appointment and needed clarity on pricing, other details and how long the treatments last. I was told I'd need to come in for a consultation to get those answers. I explained that I'd rather speak with someone knowledgeable over the phone before booking an appointment, instead of coming in just to cancel later (which she actually suggested I do). What made this more frustrating was that she wouldn't let me speak with a stylist or anyone who could properly advise me, and I was told that both treatments last six weeks--which is surprisingly after she said the treatments cost $420 before tax. I expected much better. If you're working the front desk, you should at least understand the services you're representing or be willing to connect clients with someone who does. read more

PATRICE is amazing! The Frenchman from NYC, was randomly matched with my daughter for her appt. He was the perfect stylist for my uber picky teen! He knew exactly how to correct a home version of curtain bangs, and then added gentle layers throughout without thinning it out. There's movement and it's so pretty. Please see pictures. PATRICE uses master scissor technique, knows how to blow dry thicker/denser hair very well with the typical round boar bristle brush and spent a good 10minutes doing a consult with my kid, looking at pics and videos that she had found online as samples of what she wanted. Will definitely return with my 2 other daughters and for myself! We are New Yorkers that spent the last 6 years in Asia and then the SF bay area. We have seen had many cuts, perms, up-dos, color, processes, etc. We arrived in Houston in June and have yet to figure out which salon we would like to call home... my teenager checked YELP and google reviews, ratings, pics and made her own appointment. The only thing is that there weren't any prices listed on the website. Still, I figured, it was Houston, and it should be okay... $112 for shampoo/wash, cut, blowout/style is fairly normal if you break it down to about $60/cut + $25 shampoo $25 blowout. But when you first hear that your haircut is over $100, you def do a double take! :) but it's inclusive of all the services listed above and personalized attention. Our appt was at 3:30 for a cut and we had till 5:00 of undivided attention with PATRICE. Lastly, the receptionist (with a broken foot) was super friendly, and offered us a variety of drinks and brought us a Diet Coke. I need to share how happy I am that I've FINALLY found the absolute best stylist at the best salon. Patrice at The Upper Hand - River Oaks is everything you'd want in a master stylist and more! He takes the time to listen to what you want without making you feel rushed or dismissed. Absolutely loved our service today. My daughter and I came in for her 16th bday hair cut and highlight. I scheduled a hair cut since we would already be here, but really wanted some babylights. I went to her for a full balayage from virgin hair and she was able to give me a beautiful ashy blonde and silver tone. Deanna taught me PATIENCE! Finally got to my hair goals thanks to Deanna! Took 3 visits, and lots of hours since my hair is so thick and long, and the fact that I live 2000 miles away. GO TO LOREAN- guys, I've been getting my hair done for years and it is very rare for me to actually like my hair cut. In fact for years I would just shave my own head because I could never find a hair stylist that understood how to deal with thick short hair. When I went to Lorean she listened to what I wanted and was very communicative and stressed the importance of my own comfortability. I have a pixie mullet and she always manages to cut my hair in such a way that it looks good as soon as its done and as it grows out.
