I wasn't sure what to expect with vegan pizza, after all, I love loading up on all the cheese usually, but this place was absolutely amazing!! They have lots of great flavours to choose from, so there's definitely something for everyone. I got the Pesto C.B.R with vegan chicken, bacon, sundries tomatoes, broccolis, and garlic ranch sauce to top. It took a little longer than expected to make, but it was worth the wait! It tastes absolutely amazing and I found that I was happy with half the pizza and saved the other half for later. My friend got the Superfunghi and she was contempt with it but thought there was a little too much arugula that ruined the flavour. The 2 things that kept me from giving this place a 5 would be the fact that the venue is small with picnic-style tables so it's always packed and nearly impossible to find a seat, and the fact that they discontinue popular flavours. One of my favourite flavours was the Los Tacos (and judging by other reviews this was a super popular flavour too) so I'm not sure why they decided to discontinue it! We decided to get: - Margherita Pizza $12 - Stranger Wings $14 Because margherita pizza is my favourite pizza and obviously wanted to try the famous vegan "wings". A friend and I had plans to meet up here at 1130am on the Saturday long weekend but I happened to arrive early at around 1110 and there were already 3 couples in the store even though the store was said to open at 11am (based on Google). While waiting for the friend, many more groups came by and the three benches that they had there were quickly filled (Yes, seating is a long sharing bench). We tried the Meatball and Chevre as well as Superfunghi. The meatball one has great colours (which makes great photos haha). The meatballs themselves aren't super chewy but the overall flavour has lingerings of spiciness and the dish overall is a quite salty (perhaps because the Superfunghi is a lot more milder). Between the two, Superfunghi was a lot more tasty for me personally. The potato cream and mushrooms were perfect for the pizza. The arugula on the top adds a good crunch but there was too much for me as well as it was a little too bitter (depending on the mouthful you get). I'm usually a meat person when getting pizza but this veggie one was great! Overall, I'd definitely be back to try the other types of pizzas available and the other plus for those who like sparkling water is that you can also get it on tap! read more

Finally got to try virtuous pie! I didn't realize it was kind of a cafeteria/subway style restaurant but it was quick and easy. It was quite busy when we got there but we were able to grab a seat on the end as there is limited seating. Love the ambiance. We had to try the Mac and cheese which I don't regret at all. Definitely hard to finish it all though when we ordered a pizza each. We got the mushroom one and the one with cauliflower. Both very good and a perfect personal size. I think there could've been a little more cauliflower/ingredients on mine, but it was still very good! A surprise last minute visit from L and J meant lunch somewhere new. We debated on a few spots but eventually settled on Virtuous Pie. They specialize in plant-based pizza (all 10" individual sized) and ice cream. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:30pm). The inside is modern with three communal style tables, three stools to people watch and a couple seats outside on their mini-patio. They only had three ice cream flavours available ($5.00 single and $7.00 double scoop) when we went but there was more pint options ($11.00). Interesting that they have happy hour (Tuesday all day, Monday and Wednesday to Friday (2:30pm to 5:30pm) and Friday to Saturday (10:00pm to 11:00pm). Condiments on the table included chili pepper flakes and almond parmesan. My friends were all over that almond parm. They also offer self serve complimentary distilled and sparkling water. Bougie. - Chipotle mayo ($1.50) - slight kick, quite enjoyable to dip. - Grandma pie ($14.00) - 'cheddar' cream, cashew mozzarella, Queso fresco, San Marzano drizzle, red onion, Parmesan, rosemary and thyme. This was the simplest/plainest of the five pizzas we tried. - Superfunghi ($14.00) - cashew mozzarella, herbed potato cream, truffle almond ricotta, wild mushrooms and rocket. Mushrooms were firm and flavourful. - Ultraviolet ($14.00) - walnut + arugula pesto, cashew mozzarella, oven dried tomatoes, kale, caramelized onion and pine nuts. Onions added a nice sweetness. First time I've seen pine nuts on a pizza. Solid. - Chorizo + artichoke ($14.00) - San Marzano, spicy chorizo, cashew mozzarella, roast artichokes, fennel, hot honey and lemon almond ricotta. Didn't get much from the ricotta. The artichokes were tasty but the chorizo could have used more spiciness. The dill on top didn't taste like dill at all. - Curry mile ($14.00) - butter chickpea curry, kale, mint raita, roasted cashews, red onion and a side of mango chutney. If you like Indian and fusion, this one is right up your alley. Great flavour and the mango chutney was icing on the cake. - Ice cream sandwich ($8.00) - we tried the key lime pie flavour. Flavour was subtle but the cookies were soft. A little overpriced but decent. - Skillet cookie ($9.00) - warm chocolate chip cookie, marshmallow, scoop of ice cream and salted caramel sauce. We opted for the cinnamon crunch flavour. The cookie was slightly warmed and melted which I enjoyed. Cinnamon crunch was just like the cereal. Again, overpriced. I've come here a number of times, and for whatever reason, the location always makes my eyes irritated. It might be from the smoke of the pizza oven (is that what it's called?), or it might be from the heating. I ignore that smoke though. The restaurant is located conveniently; it's in Chinatown, not too far away from the Main Street-Science World Skytrain station. It's especially great if you're vegan, since Umaluma, Vegan Supply Chinatown, etc. are close by as well. The space is a bit small, you'll have to sit with strangers. If you finish your food, you're more or less prompted to leave instead of staying since there are other people waiting for a seat. This place gets VERY busy, VERY quickly. Don't come if you're a party of 12 unless you come when the restaurant is dead. As for the food, the pizzas are great. I've only got the Ultraviolet myself, but I've tried other pizzas (ex. the Margherita), and I like those as well. The Ultraviolet remains to be my favourite though. The vegan cheese that they use is super good and taste pretty much like real cheese. Way better than Daiya cheese; Daiya cheese can't even compare. Make use of the condiments that are available to you at your table. Also, prepare to wait a while for your food to come out (15-20mins, 30mins tops). This is a really nice vegan pizza place with strong sense of community feel. The tables are community seating and it encourages connection with people you don't know. The pizzas themselves were pretty good, being from LA I've had really good vegan pizza and this was almost as good as the best ones I've had in Los Angeles. What was really spectacular was their desserts. They had a vegan ice cream sandwich which was made with two vegan dark chocolate chip cookies and your choice of six vegan ice creams. The first pizza I tried was their Ultraviolet (11.00). The crust was thin and crispy with baked kale, tangy tomato, crunchy pine nuts, and yummy salty cheese. I also managed to try their Super Funghi (11.00). Out of the two, this one definitely stood out more. There was a crazy amount of bitter arugula, salty mushrooms, and some of this interesting salty ricotta with each bite. Given the heat, I also ordered their Matcha Coconut ice cream (5.00) as all of their other varieties were sold out. It was super creamy, buttery, and had a nice coconut aftertaste. Honestly, I wish I could say that I loved this place, since I had a fantastic vegan pizza from Leef and Stem a week ago. Unfortunately, the pizza I got was disappointing, and so I'll have to look elsewhere for some good vegan pizza. I also got some sushi from the Harken Coffee collaboration, which was decent. Sweet Pepper + Sausage Pizza (3/5) I was so excited for this, but this pizza fell completely short of my expectations. The pizza dough was very chewy and had a strange texture, while the "cheese" was spongy and plasticy. My meat-loving, vegan-food-hating brother ate two slices though, which was very surprising, though I did pick all the cheese (since it tasted strange) and sweet peppers (he hates those) off by then. The sausage mince was decent, but was definitely mushier than real meat. The seasoning was a bit spicy, which was nicely balanced by the hot honey. The honey definitely added a unique touch, but the pizza definitely needed more of it to counteract the heat. There was a decent amount of toppings, but I do wish there was slightly more "meat". This pizza was underwhelming, and I wouldn't get it again. Inari Sushi (4/5) The flavour was nice and mild, and I liked how the bean curd pocket wasn't sickly sweet like those you normally get at regular sushi places. I wish there was more filling and sauce, since it was quite heavy on the rice. I couldn't really taste the sesame sauce on the spinach, but I thought the addition of tempeh was interesting. Spicy Tuna Roll (4/5) The flavour of this roll was good, and my non-vegan brother had no idea that it was tomato and not tuna. I liked the crunch from the pumpkin, sunflower and sesame seeds on top, but I definitely would have liked more filling, since I'm not really a rice person and I just want the filling. It also wasn't spicy at all, which I was completely fine with since I'm not the biggest fan of spicy foods anyway. If you're looking for good vegan pizza, I would go to Leef and Stem. Coworkers have been raving about this place, but honestly, I don't get it. I like many of the combination of toppings listed, but others are only ok. The main issue for me is the crust. The crust is terrible here - it's thin, but lack the nice texture and taste of a good pizza. This crust literally tasted and had a texture like cardboard. For International Women's Day today, Virtuous Pie is offering a free scoop of ice cream to anyone who identifies as a woman. This was all the incentive I needed to try this place. I ordered the margherita with extra sauce and a side of garlic ranch dip. While it was tasty, I still prefer the traditional ones made from flour as it has a nicer chew. First time I've had cashew mozzarella. The texture was interesting. It didn't quite have the stringiness of regular cheese and tasted a bit mushy. I don't think I would return for the pizza in the future, especially since there's only pay parking, which I hate. For the free ice cream, I had the coffee and donut flavour. It was pretty good and is the reason I gave an extra star. Kudos to them for respecting International Women's Day, as I don't see any other establishment doing so. I've been supporting this place for years, good vegan pie is rare, and they filled a much needed void in the cities foodie scene. Not anymore. For two 10 inch pies, a lemonade and a Zevia/pop, 60$. After that insult, the pie's took 20 minutes to arrive to us in an empty restaurant AND the only reason they had any flavour was because we had a dipping sauce. All I need to be happy in life is pizza and wine, and that is exactly what I got last night when I came to Virtuous Pie. Stopped in here with some fellow Yelpers and grabbed a seat at one of their long tables by the door. The tables are set up picnic/communal style, so if you're planning on staying here for dinner then be ready to share part of your table. The atmosphere itself is clean, hip, and cool. You have to make your way to the back to order and then pick it up at the other end close to the entrance. At the back they have a huge menu that takes over the whole back wall, so you can easily see the selections before you order. They've got salads which rotate flavours, about 10 different pizza flavours, a small drink selection, and (vegan) ice cream. As your lining up you get to watch all the pizza-chefs cook up a storm and create your delicious 'za. I was chatting away with some of them and they were saying that on an average day they create more than 200 pizzas. WOW. Let's talk about their pizzas though, because DAMN are they good. You would never guess that these faux-dough wonders were vegan, they were that good. Not saying that vegan dishes aren't tasty (because they are!), you just wouldn't expect it to taste exactly like a regular pizza. I decided to go with the Los Tacos which had crumbled chipotle, corn, black beans and avocado lime drizzle. I was able to trade a few slices and also tasted the Margherita, Fennel + Sausage, and Stranger Wings, which were all delicious. On my next trip I'll definitely be trying out the Curry Mile and Ultraviolet though. The Los Tacos was just so good. I loved it so much that I bought my brother the same pizza so I could have a slice later that night! For dessert we shared 2 flights of their ice cream splitting the peanut butter cookie dough, turmeric + black pepper, coffee + donuts, and mint + dark chocolate. My personal favourite was the coffee + donuts because coffee ice cream is my favourite, with the peanut buter cookie dough coming in at a close second. The turmeric + black pepper was interesting, and not my personal favourite, but I'm glad I was able to try it. They also sell their ice cream in pints, if you're interested in buying in bulk ;) For a Monday night, they were packed and had a continuous line going, so I can only imagine what it's like on weekend evenings. I've only ever been on weekday nights or late afternoons and have always been able to grab a seat. I do also have to point out the superb service we received. Even though there wasn't waiter service, everyone from the ladies who took our order to the chefs firing up our 'zas were friendly and very kind, which I was very impressed with especially how busy it was. We were initially a bit worried about seating based on the reviews but the manager really worked to accommodate us and seating opens up fairly quickly. Restaurant style is kind of fast casual, but with some attention to the table. I liked that vibe - casual, but nice. Now the food - WOWWWW! My kids, who are vegetarian and not vegan, got the margherita pizza and absolutely loved it. They even ordered extra Parmesan cheese and downed it. Perfect for kids. They didn't even realize it was vegan. Husband and I ordered the street corn pizza and funghi pizza. It was another level of amazing. The flavors of both were so unique. And the dough made it feel like pizza and not a flatbread. And now, dessert. We ordered the warm cookie skillet with bourbon vanilla ice cream. There wasn't even one drop left on the skillet. Marshmallows were roasted to perfection. Cookie was delicious and not overly sweet. Bourbon vanilla ice cream was the perfect combo. We ordered ours without caramel sauce. Wow. This place is incredible. It all began on a simple Monday afternoon - had a friend visiting from Phoenix and we decided that we were in the mood for some pizza. We made the trek over to chinatown after searching yelp for a decent place that fit our criteria. We wanted a thin crust, non greasy, and a peaceful ambience. This place is not super service oriented - you order at the counter and get your own water. However, the girl at the counter was amiable and sweet, even offering up her recommendations! They also provide four local beers to choose from. My friend got a Steamworks pilsner, which he enjoyed very much. I ordered the blackberry kombucha (on tap, hehe, I love this city) and enjoyed it quite a lot. A bit sour, but my fellow Kombucha enthusiasts know that's the best kind! But this...oh my, it's as good as it gets. I rarely ever finish a pizza on my own but this was tempting. I didn't though boxed half of it and had it for lunch the next day. The takeout box is cute (I got the smaller version and fits well in my bag). I also ordered a pear kombucha (4/5). I liked it. Since I'm here and it's vegan why not order a ice cream flight. Of the flavours that was available I got Pumpkin Pie + Pecan, Coffee + Donuts and Hawaiian Vanilla. Surprisingly the Vanilla was my favourite and the coffee had this soap tastes to it. Have you heard the word? Virtuous Pie is now serving brunch (for a limited time) and well worth the experience. I got here at 11 on Saturday and the place was full! I love that they offer sparkling and still water (at a help yourself station) and that you can watch the madness that is the service line of pie making. I got the Dos Amigos (Corn Tortilla, Chipotle Crumble, Tofu Scramble, Sliced Avocado, Queso Fresco, Pickled Red Onion, Cilantro, Served with a side of Cajun Tator Tots + Valentina Hot Sauce) and it was LIT AF! The home made tator tots were freaking amazing! The Valentina goes so well with the tofu scramble and they absolutely don't skimp on the pickled onion or avo. I also got a side of the cashew cream hollandaise and I wish I brought a tupperware to fill it with it. Seriously, that shit is legit. My side chick got the Eat Your Taters (San Marzano Pizza Sauce, Black Beans, Tater Tots, Tofu Scramble, Maple Breakfast Sausage, Chipotle Aioli, Scallion) on GF crust. It was really nice but I wish they had used the cajun tater tots. For desert, I got the peanut butter cookie dough ice cream and I cried tears of delight. FIRSTLY, my rating for Virtuous Pie is mostly based on my experience with their vegan ice cream. I came in here for their happy hour specials and under the influence of my vegan friend. M-F happy hour ends quite early at 2:30-5:30pm so we had to hustle over there. SO I love trying vegan ice cream since I'm pretty much lactose intolerant, and when I saw their 3 flights of ice cream for $8, I had to give it a go (especially since one scoop costs $5!!). I chose the flavours: Matcha + Coconut, Double Chocolate + Salted Caramel, and Hawaiian Vanilla. They came out on a long dish with 3 small bowls of very conservative servings of each flavour. Although they sounded tasty...they in fact were pretty bland and the Hawaiian Vanilla just tasted like play-dough to me. I would honestly rather get vegan ice cream from other places instead of at Virtuous. My friends ordered a few of their pizzas and they took quite a long time to be ready (~30minutes) since they were made right then and there. In my perspective as an omnivore, after trying a few bites of their pizzas, I thought the taste combinations were unique and pretty good! I did find the pizzas to be on the drier side though. And for those reasons I won't be trying Virtuous Pizza for their ice creams again but would maybe come in for some of their interesting 'zzas (hoping for a bit more sauce the next time!). read more

Best vegetarian pizza I've had so far! Full of flavour and crust was the right crispness + awesome service! Not a lot of seats, so don't sit there as if it's a coffee shop haa Ice cream was too sweet for me, but would definitely come back for more pizzas :) read more

This place deserves waaaay more than 5-stars! Not only for their awesomely delicious 100% plant-based pizzas but more importantly for their impeccable customer service! Upon entering this lair of goodness, your sense of smell is treated to the heavenly smell of fresh veggies and dough baking in the oven. The menu is eclectic yet manageable - pizzas ranging from buffalo wing inspired flavors to Korean BBQ.. you CAN NOT go wrong with anything you chose, that's my guarantee! :) There's tater tots on the menu that you have try but the last two times I visited, they were sold out. The dough is thin and the toppings are generous. There's almond parmesan cheese available along with chili-flakes and oil.. it's self-serve still or sparkling water and if you're up for it.. they even have vegan ice cream! As previously mentioned, the service is top-notch! From the person taking your order to the pizza chef to anyone else working behind the counter, EVERYONE is on their A-game and truly cares about customer service.
