I found Virginia Speed as I was looking for a company that could handle a serious rebuild of the engine in my 2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE specifically, I was looking to solve some issues with the Whipple supercharger that was installed and needed help with getting it tuned correctly. After reading reviews and having called and spoke with Mario I got the warm and fuzzy and decided to do business with them. After VA Speed inspected the car, it was recommended that due to the block being damaged I needed to do a full engine rebuild. I verified that this was something they could handle. Full disclosure, at the time I was active-duty military and had just transferred from San Diego and was on my way to a temporary assignment out of state. I knew I wouldn't be able to cross check or be physically available for all of the work that was to be done, but again felt comfortable and confident that Mario would be there and able to get the job done. I dropped the car off in late September of 2021. Initially, I was told it would most likely be a tuning job, but later had discovered there was damage on the cylinder walls. I went into the shop, talked about it and decided to go forward with the changes to the job. I explained my timeline that I would be out of the area for a few months with the agreed upon expectation that that would be enough time to get the work done. I gave them a point of contact in the area (my uncle) and my cell phone number, and was promised regular updates, photos and dyno sheets to which I never received (any of this). I called to check in with them consistently to get the status through my hectic training schedule and was told that Mario no longer worked there, and that Justin would be handling my work order from there on out. Once again, I was promised to be kept updated; I received very few calls and every time I called, I was met with additional work that needed to be done and/or excuses for delays. I returned to Virginia in December and went into the shop to check on my car - after 3 months it wasn't even close to being finished. I again spoke with Justin and was promised that it would be done in a "couple weeks". I told him as we rolled into the next year, I was getting ready for deployment (in March) and I needed the car to be completed before this time. I reached out to my uncle; he went to check on the car. He later told me that the car was not really being cared for as there was food and wrappers inside and it clearly was not ready for pick up. Four months later (August) my uncle was told the work had been completed and they could go pick up the car - twenty miles down the road the engine stalls and couldn't be restarted. After calling and paying for a flatbed to be towed back to Virginia Speed my uncle told them it didn't run. Met with more excuses and changing stories, the car is still not fixed at this point! Deployment came and went - still no emails or status updates on the car. When I returned from deployment in October, I had paid upfront 15K and after a year of VA Speed "working" on it, it still is not fixed. Finally in December after additional costs, I had enough and called Justin to tell him "I'm done, I'm coming to get the car - have it ready". I went to pick up the car -when I arrived the car was still on the dyno - I literally sat in the parking lot and watched him put the tune in the car. He apologized, we shook hands and I drove off. Once again 10 miles down the road the check engine light comes on, the power management comes on and the car stalls. I gave VA Speed every opportunity to fix my car and at every opportunity they failed. I later traded the car in and to my surprise received a call from Mario telling me that he had the car from the new owner at his shop and that he fixed the tune and fuel injectors, and that he was not surprised that I couldn't even drive it. I later tried calling VA Speed to see if I could recoup some of my money and spoke directly to Douglas the owner and was told that it was up to me to prove that there was something wrong with the car and that he "tried really hard" to fix it. I am writing this review to save anyone who is considering using this company (let alone spending serious money) - not too! THESE GUYS are SCAM ARTIST. They are not professional, nor are they competent. They shouldn't have made promises they weren't able to keep. I had VA Speed swap my original 4.8/5-speed with a 430 HP LS3 crate engine and Tremec Magnum 6-speed. While the swap should have been fairly easy, what I got was far short of my expectations. I waited to post a review until I had all problems resolved. It took me a year and a half due to time constraints, but here's the short list in no particular order: 1. Trans output seal was leaking. I replaced it and it hasn't leaked since. ATF on the input shaft during installation would have prevented it. 2. Ground for electric fans was insufficient so the relays would just click and they weren't configured correctly in the tune. 3. The Corsa Sport exhaust they recommended was incredibly annoying. It was very raspy and not pleasant for those in or out of the truck. I added a Vibrant resonator and it sounds much better. 4. The engine would never warm up, but this one's on me. A BeCool 2-row radiator is simply too much radiator for the engine. I could never get the engine above 150F. The issue is that when I told Mario, he told me to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. That's a band-aid at best, not a fix. The correct fix was to use a factory 1-row radiator. It now runs at 195 degrees all day long, even on scorcher days with the AC on. 5. The PCV system was not connected correctly. They had a hose from the air tube to the passenger valve cover for clean air and dirty air from the valley cover to a port on the throttle body in front of the throttle plate. This provided no draw through the crankcase. I blocked off the air tube port, ran the throttle body port to the valve cover and the valley cover port to the top of the intake manifold where it's supposed to be. 6. The remote shifter they built isn't awful, but they could have put a little more engineering into it and made it a nice piece. While it does work, they used a welded-on bolt for the shifter ball to screw onto instead of using some bar stock. They could then have drilled a couple of holes to bolt on a stubby stick and I wouldn't have to have the shifter boot right up to the ball. 7. The tune was garbage. It wouldn't idle and stalled at every stop unless I feathered the gas and clutch together. Even then, the idle was never smooth. It stalled every time I had to stop until I figured out how to keep it running. When I called the shop to let them know and to see what we could do to fix it, I was told that they don't do tunes via email and I was basically out of luck. The reasons for the poor idle should have been caught by VA Speed. a. A portion the O-ring between the throttle body and the intake manifold was out of the groove creating a vacuum leak. This should have been caught by the tuner by simply seeing that the IAC count at idle was 0. A smoke test would have shown where the problem was. b. The intake manifold bolts were loose. They should have done a torque check after a few heat cycles, but I doubt that happened. Same thing with the header bolts - no torque check after a few heat cycles. c. The fuel pressure was at 72 psi. Checking this should have been part of the startup process. I'm using a Walbro 255 pump and was using a C5-style filter/regulator. In the shop's defense, that's the setup that's supposed to work. Well, it didn't. They should have checked it and told me there was a problem. I replaced the regulator with an Aeromotive adjustable unit and a separate filter. Now the pressure is set at 58 psi and it idles perfectly smooth after a few more tweaks in the tune. d. The fueling calibration was way off, partially due to the vacuum leak and incorrect fuel pressure, but also due to the fact that they apparently didn't do any road testing and logging. No daily driver runs at wide-open throttle all the time, so dyno testing can only do so much. Road testing and logging is the only way to properly dial in a daily-driver tune. For sure I'm no expert, but their tuner should go back to school. There were other issues that didn't affect how the engine ran, like not reinstalling interior trim parts, cover off the ECU, and scratched doors on both sides. More of an annoyance than anything else but it speaks to quality and attention to detail. And they didn't save the original tune that came with the truck before they started making changes. The original tune is lost and gone forever. I don't need it necessarily, but there's no reason they couldn't have saved it for me for my own amusement. There's more to say but I'm running out of space. The bottom line is, as always, buyer beware. Shops will talk a good game, but in the end, you're left with what you're left with. The folks at VA Speed are nice folks but I spent a ton of cash with them and I wasn't happy with the initial result. Workmanship is suspect and their support after the sale was unsatisfactory. Out of necessity I can now tune my truck myself and don't need a shop. And if I did, I wouldn't use VA Speed. read more

I have a 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF and contacted them about installing a Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger. I was a little hesitant because they seemed to cater to American Muscle. When I contacted them about my thoughts, they responded within hours and were excited at taking in my car for the modification. They had my car into their shop within days! They are very busy (And I understand why), but their response and turn-a-round is outstanding!!! More importantly, they had it completed not at the end of the day promised, but before I even woke up on that day. They actually came in early to make sure that I was taken care of. I tell you this right now...I will always go to them for my modification needs. They get you in as quickly as possible and do everything they can to make you happy. They welcome you to come in and take a peak at the build, send you pictures of the progress and give you feedback on what they are doing. Better than that, they treat you like family instead of treating you like you should thank them for the work, then they give you an absolutely honest quote without gouging you to death. Not to mention, every person on the staff is extremely knowledgeable about the business. The last kicker...They insist on doing the best job possible, if they are not comfortable doing what you want they will tell you that they can't do it. But they will recommend where you can go. The last bit was not a personal experience, but from overhearing their interactions with others. This spells integrity, a very rare breed that is lacking in this community. Well, where do I start. I've always had the curiosity to know exactly how much HP my 1968 Mustang was putting out, so I decided to take my car to Va Speed to have it dynoed. Unbeknownst to me, I never expected to pay so much more money over the original price I was quoted, and never get my car dynoed. This was one of the biggest disappointment I had with Va Speed. They had my car nearly a month and never could get my car dynoed. I trusted what they were telling me when they so called ran into issues with the dyno tests, but each suggestion failed and cost me more money. Finally, when I said enough was enough, I just want my car back, things got really interesting. When I picked my car up, while driving it I noticed the transmission shifting was very sluggish. When they swapped out the carburetor the TV cable was not readjusted properly. This can pose a real issue with AOD transmissions causing them to burn up the gears. When I brought this to there attention, of course there was denial that they never touched it. The fact of the matter you have to touch it when you take the carburetor off. I was very upset with Va Speed for giving me my car back in a unsatisfactory status from which it was when I brought the car to them. My overall satisfaction with Va Speed on a scale 1 to 10 is a ZERO! I would not recommend them to do any work on my car or my worst enemy. read more
